What an uplifting show! Thank you both--you brightened my Monday considerably. and I can't express how much I appreciate the down-to-earth and experience-based approach you took to the conversation and to spirituality in general. When Jacob mentioned choosing local flowers and natural materials to construct/decorate one's altar I nearly danced a jig. That is a drum I've been beating for awhile now--localized spirituality!

Also, wanted to share Czech spring tradition - we have a peculiar Easter (pagan) custom of men braiding willow twigs into a whip, and visiting all the women in the community to actually whip their bums😅 to rejuvenate them - in exchange for an coloured egg.

The 8th century English monk, Venerable Bede, mentions Ostara in his writings about the names of local Anglo-Saxon months. I believe it's the only contemporary source. He's definitely worth a deep dive.
I agree about the localizing land interactions. I don't claim any sort of affiliation to my neighbors who were on this land before me I incorporate their practices in relation to plants & animals as I can in my day-to-day life

We have hot cross buns! They were my brother's favorite when we were home and mom made her own. But they're available in grocery stores and bakeries, too. I'm not a big fan, but maybe I should revisit them now knowing it's a sun cross! 😊 I should've mentioned that I am here in the States.
I am excited for this new podcast and hope you do video for each episode. I am a mix of Celtic ancestors and Italian; my Dad was from Cumbria, my Mom's people were from Southern Italy. Both grandmothers were definitely connected with the Old Ways.
Thank you both for sharing your experiences and what you're learning. I hope it enriches my connections with my spirituality as I have been feeling more than a bit distanced from it because...well, life stuff in 2024.

Bird calls over time actually change to over come background noise, so even if you knew the species you wouldn’t know the calls from them only now in place they are
This is fascinating! It raises some delightful questions: Would a robin today listening to a robin from the 14th century find it as difficult to understand as we find medieval English? :-)
I'm surprised that when they were talking about the seasons they didn't talk about the Celtic calendar. The bronze tablet found in Coligny of the Celtic calendar shows they followed the lunar cycles over the solar cycles. Which is interesting as neolithic peoples seemed to look at solar cycles. So I'd be interested in how those two perspectives mixed with the celt's. The druids and Celtic peoples came from along the Danube in modern day Austria but would have merged with neolithic peoples already in lands they migrated to and settled to. How would the two perspectives influence their approach to the changing sessions?

So, I’ve asked this in a few places and never got a satisfactory response.
At some point in the distant past our ancestors came to know the gods for the first time. It seems we go to a lot of effort to try to figure out what our ancestors were doing in terms of ritual etc when maybe we should just be focusing on coming to know the gods again? If they showed themselves to us once, why would they not again?
I would imagine its because through these rituals, we can get closer to the Gods

Painted eggs were a Slavic pagan tradition
There is however the fact that Slavic culture is also derived from earlier Indo-European culture, so they could have a common origin to this in Europe in general including Eastern Europe.
