    One thing I want to point out: On my machine with the i5 whiskey lake, during normal work (office, firefox, thunderbird, youtube) the fan is completely turned off. This really impressed me as at the same time the machine stays cool. I once got my hands on the x1 carbon 2018 and in comparison to the x390, it burns your fingers!

    i have this laptop and i love it. im a laptop geek and swap out my laptop every 6 weeks at work because why not. As a student / developer this laptop is a beast. Can bring anywhere--its light, decent battery life, and got a thunderbolt 3. I plan on getting a gpu docking station so I can have one thunderbolt cable setup for home/work and for school just unplug it and go.

      I was wondering if it could be posible to install a sata drive instead of an NVMe so that you can free 2x lanes of PCIe and then they become available for usage on your thunderbold 3 port having four in total instead of the two mentioned on the video. However I am not sure if this is possible. If so I would strongly consider buying this laptop.

    I worked on my PhD in computational physics from a Lenovo X210 and the battery life was a major point of proud (and productivity). Now that's gone for ever, as they follow the esthetics instead of practicality. I'll look forward to a new Dell 13 2-in-1, that seems to have a nicer screen form factor, better battery life, better sound, and is as good as this in the work environment (especially if only MS and browsing are considered as work stuff...)

      Hello Sir!
      I'm considering a ThinkPad for use in running statistical computing softwares particularly SAS & R for analyzing large datasets.
      May I know your opinion as to which particular ThinkPad to choose to suit my purpose, or another brand/make/model for that matter?
      Thank you so much in advance for your response!

    • @BriefNerdOriginal
      @BriefNerdOriginal 5 лет назад

      @@yengsabio5315 depending on the size of the datasets and walltime overheads of the scripts/code, I would say that memory access speed (RAM as well as SSD) can be the real bottleneck. If you program in order to also make use of GPU, then you need a GPU. Personally, anything with 4+ cores, an optional GPU, speedy NVME and 16+ GB RAM dual channel are to be suggested

    I'm one of those weirdos who doesn't like the anti glare feature. I have cataracts (really) so I need as much sharpness as I can get. I love all of the choices that are out now though, so when I see the affordable Windows laptop that checks most of the important boxes for me, I will likely have seen it reviewed by you! It's so nice to have a trusted, honest source. Thank you AMD.

    The ThinkPad X390's less than 8 hour battery life is a show stopper for somebody who can sometimes be on the road all day like myself. That's disappointing given earlier ThinkPad models could last 15-16 hours continuously and where battery development is today.

    I am thinking of getting a Thinkpad to replace my aging 2009 Macbook Pro. Thinkpads seem to be tough hardware that is enjoyable to use, which really appeals to me. Is there a similarly priced Thinkpad (or other durable computer) to use as an everyday-use laptop and a little light gaming (minecraft, chivalry, subnautica)? I am just overwhelmed after using the same laptop for so long, which I loved, but it is starting to have some issues. This video was great so I appreciate your opinion.

    id just love to see good keyboard layouts again on thinkpads, they could even keep the chiclet keyboard if they just fixed the layout

    Amazing how the majority of laptop makers still shipping 1080p panels on these laptops in 2019. Why is it that its still hard to find a 2k display on a windows laptop at a decent price? Heck i can buy a 2013 macbook with a 2k display but not a decent pc? I dont want 4k draining my battery, just a nice 2k ips panel, that doesnt cost over $1200. Really starting to piss me off.

    I would rather get a used x201 i good condition, and upgrade it to the same specs as this one, with the chinese lcdfan's x210 51nb 8th motherboard. And a new 1080p lcd pannel upgrade.
    Way better I/O, same specs, non soldered ram, GREAT classic thinkpad keyboard (no bad chiclete keyboard here), great screen, 12 inch, and really sturdy chassis. And cheaper than that laptop. Upgradeable wireless card, etc.
    And its literally buy the x201, and buy the parts and swap them, no mods needed, or even order the awready pre-swapped one (but its more expensive tho).

    • @griffin8062
      @griffin8062 5 лет назад +1

      The problem with the LCDfan motherboards is the battery life is crap because they have high power draw.

    • @eduardoavila646
      @eduardoavila646 5 лет назад

      @@griffin8062 But compared to what? Because its a 15w cpu, while the original one is 35w. Is it bad compared to the original board or to modern thinkpads?
      Most likelly you're comparing this thinkpad with more modern ones, wich usually have way more battery capacity.
      For me, 6h+ is awready perfect. If i get my hands on a good x201 i will give it a try.
