The 8GB modules that I used are no longer available on Amazon. And in Amazon Canada there's been a drought of 8GB DDR5 SODIMM modules for laptops. I'll update when I find that stock is plentiful. But for most folks, it might be easier to pay a few $ extra and just go for the 32GB RAM.
How did you get to the hardware info screen at 5:26? I bought a single 8gb ram to add to the lap in order to make 16gb dual channel, so I'm wondering if Im having the same issue you had. Ty for the video 👍
Thanks for the video, but I have a question. Can we upgrade the ssd by adding a 2tb m2.nvme to the other slot? As on lenovos website it says, you can add only 512gb or 1 tb to the other slot considering (Lenovo store options)?? And does it void warranty to do so by the user himself? Thank you
Thank you for this video. I just got this ones big brother, the one that comes stock with 16gb. Looking to take it to 32gb. I have a clear guide of how to get inside now. One question, did you disconnect the battery from the board at all(IE unplugging the power cable from the motherboard)? I didn't see it in your video, though you did cut the video up I can see. When I upgraded my old HP laptop that was something the guy did before tampering with the RAM. Is that something that should be done here?
Probably it should be a ryzen variant because the ryzen processor are hitting around 90 degree Celsius. Recommended your friend to use a cooling pad or customize the setting in custom mode placing your fans into their full speed
Full speed fans do give a lot more noise. Better to either play in Balanced mode or to get the Ryzen CPU. Keep in mind that the Intel and AMD CPUs this generation are so close, it doesn't really matter which one you pick.
Hi there, thank you for this video. I am currently planning on adding a ram to my Lenovo LOQ. attached below is the model and specs of my LOQ. Do you have any recommendations of what brand of additional 8gb ram to buy? LOQ 15IRH8 82XV00P6PH 15.6" FHD 144Hz i5-12450H | RTX 2050 | 8GB DDR5-4800 | 512GB SSD
Thanks for the video! I’ve been looking for a while for a good 8gb of ram for my LOQ 15 since the part on the lenovo website is $70 US. The ram you used is only $28 US. And just to confirm, the ram would work with all models of the LOQ 15?
It is and it isn't. Depends on who you ask. I took a risk... and it worked for me. Have been doing this all my life upgrading laptops. BUT.. the correct and scientifically backed up opinion is that you should wear anti-static wrist strap, ground yourself, disconnect the battery and *then* attempt the upgrade or tinkering inside.
Hola! Tu video me ha servido de mucho, like y nuevo subscriptor, la memoria ram que tiene de fabrica es de 5600 MHz? Yo tengo la Loq 15 con 3050 y core I5 12 generación. Y me serviria esta? Memoria Ram DDR5 8gb 5600 Mhz Beast Kingston Fury Rgb
@arathvaldin1337 Thanks for the like and sub. The 12th gen Intel CPU was limited to 4800MHz DDR5 RAM. Buying 5600Mhz may cost more so you can go with (usually cheaper) 4800Mhz for upgrade.
Hi, I just bought LOQ 15 2023 (I think it is 2023). The specs are: i7 13650HX, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA RTX 4060 with 8GB VRAM and 512GB SSD. Have you done any upgrades on that particular LOQ model? If so, I would be very interested to watch it. Thanks
Hi, does it matter if the ram inside the laptop (8)Gb from a different company than the one i will be adding (8) GB also, knowing that both of them are DDR5-4800?
I was thinking of buying the CORSAIR - VENGEANCE 32GB (1PK 32GB) 4800MHz DDR5 C40 SODIMM, do you think it will work? I’m just gonna take out the 8 Gb one and put in the 32 Gb one.
@julianwalker1843. I'd be careful with a single 32GB module. According to the official specs the largest single DIMM module supported is 16GB. The main things to note are that it's SODIMM - so it'll fit in the laptop, and that it's DDR5 and at 4800MHz or higher. The C40 are other performance number that don't make all that much of a difference except very specific scenarios. If you do manage trying it anyway, let me know if it works out. People have had some success with exceeding the specified RAM modules.
@@techknowlux Thank you for the info, I’m probably just gonna get the 16 Gb version instead of the 32 Gb because if the max is 16 Gb then what’s the meaning of buying a 32 Gb, just a waste of money I’m guessing.

@sametashori3047 I have heard of this lots too. But I have never tried it. The only way to know exactly is to try it. There are so many variations, BIOS version, motherboard version, that could affect RAM limits. The CPU though *should* support it.

@riverversteeg7086 Yes, please disconnect the battery before doing this. Additionally you should use an anti-static strap or anti-static surface/pad to make sure you don't discharge any static electricity into the device. Just because I "winged it" doesn't mean it was the right way to do it.
@thegamergodbroyt4620 Ouch. You'll need some way to remove those screws. I suppose you could try a precision needle nose plier or something to remove them. There are also special tools to remove screws once they've been stripped.
I brought the i7 14gen with 4060 with a single 16gb ram ddr5 5600mhz stick.. confused with 5600mhz CL46 or 5200mhz CL42 or 4800mhz CL40.. please advise.. also did you unlug the power cable from the battery to the motherboard before installing the ram stick?
@shakeebahmer To be honest, I don't think it'll make much difference. Go with the faster speed. Unless you have a specific use case and timings matter, the impact is minute. And the CL is just one of the two dozen or so timings that RAM operates.
@Ezraandgoify Yes you should. BUT, I've never done that and I have never had any problems. That doesn't meant that you should follow my example. I didn't cover this in my video. Please check other videos or the official instructions manual on Lenovo website on how to do this correctly. You should also be working on an anti-static surface and wear an anti-static wrist strap. Lol.
@AndrewMoon2.0 I am not familiar with the i5-12450HX model. But I would assume since it's Alder Lake, it should be. You can open up the bottom panel and have a look or check the manual on Lenovo's website with your serial number and exact model number of your laptop.
@elsheshar999 Remove the RAM and install the original and see if it turns on. Maybe try replacing one module at a time so you have one original and one new module.

I bought the same ram as this and tried to upgrade my laptop. But it won't boot with the new ram in any configuration possible. If the new ram is inside the laptop, it will just not boot. Can anyone help me out with this?
What do you see on bootup? Do you see the logo? Any sounds? Lights? If nothing, remove the modules, put in only 1 of the modules and try to see if the laptop will boot. If it does, then add the other module in the 2nd slot and try again. If not, then you might have defective memory (rare, but it can happen). If not, you could also try putting in the original RAM 1 module and the new RAM 1 module and see if it will boot with that give you 24GB. This way hopefully you can figure out what's the problem.
@@techknowlux Thanks for replying, I tried everything with it. The thing that fixed it was buying a new ram with the same exact frequency as my original one (5600 MT/s).
@Mufasa191 It will not cause any problem but that means the system will only be able to run RAM access at 5200Mhz (the slower module). Or it could be that the system will default to single-channel RAM. In rare cases it could cause crashes or instability.

@virajnanayakkarawasam6397 What is the purpose to upgrade to 24GB? It is better to keep RAM symmetrical. However, it will not reduce performance. You will just not get the full performance benefit from 2x16GB.
Yes you did. How is it amazing? Your choices for 2230 and 2242 SSDs are quite limited. Especially for larger capacities. But if you plan to use that as a 512GB boot drive, and have a larger 2280 SSD for storage/apps/games etc, then it works.
@@techknowlux usually at this price point a lot of manufactures just use 1 m.2 slot. I'm impressed that they used the smaller m.2 slot as it avoids confusion on the customers side as if they used the larger slot and a consumer decided to buy an m.2 slot, they will likely buy a 2280 size and not the smaller one , if they don't confirm it beforehand.

@mcg29_33 Probably limitations on the motherboard and the CPUs only support a certain max amount of RAM. 64GB will most probably not work in this laptop. Is there a reason you specifically want that much RAM?
@@techknowlux I got a single 32GB card (for hopes of running 64GB in the future) It actually works just fine after testing so I presume 64GB will work. @MrFrdse It is possible that different configurations and regions have different RAM speeds on offer. Check the official specifications for the model that you purchased to see what speeds your model should be running.
No adding RAM by yourself does not void warranty for Lenovo. This is to the best of my knowledge. Please check with Lenovo website/support and documentation to confirm.
@@jkaeqpo400 The part that voids the warranty on a laptop is a seal on one of the cover's screw. So if you managed to open the bottom panel without voiding the warranty, you can change both RAM and SSD without an issue. Remember, the seal on the screws voids the warranty. Also, you will have to keep the original components (the RAM sticks and the SSD) in case you will ever need to use that warranty.
@mihaiszekely8866 What do you mean only 1 slot? The laptop has 2 slots. You can replace two modules. If you want you can also leave one 8gb module there and replace one of them with a 16gb ram.
@ I’m stuck rn between the loq and the legion 5i or just going to a whole other brand due to all the bad reviews what is ur suggestion for a good lasting laptop for gaming and school work
@dr_wnk Yes you can. 5600Mhz is the maximum speed supported. Slower speeds will work just fine. If the 4800MHz is cheaper then go for it. It won't make that big a difference unless you're doing memory heavy and intensive workloads (you'll know if you are - large databases, data manipulation, 3d animation etc.).
@dafinreysah3125 Yes there is. You can add another SSD. But please check the official specifications for your specific model on the Lenovo website so you know what size SSD you need. It will be either 30mm, 42mm or 80mm length NVMe PCIe Gen 4 SSD.
@Glitchedluke Chip a screw? You mean the threads are worn out so you can no longer use a screwdriver to open the screw? You'll need to use a plier or some screw removal tool to take it out.

Just wanted to say thank you for the video! Just did it with a friend and it went perfect! Went from 8gb to 32gb 5600 hertz!
Do you have a purchase link?
The 8GB modules that I used are no longer available on Amazon. And in Amazon Canada there's been a drought of 8GB DDR5 SODIMM modules for laptops. I'll update when I find that stock is plentiful. But for most folks, it might be easier to pay a few $ extra and just go for the 32GB RAM.
Very nice video man :) I got a 16 gb and I'm gonna install it by using your video thanks!
@Dan-rf5zl Thank you so much. Hope you're subscribed for more great content in the future. What games will you be playing with the beefed up RAM?
How did you get to the hardware info screen at 5:26? I bought a single 8gb ram to add to the lap in order to make 16gb dual channel, so I'm wondering if Im having the same issue you had.
Ty for the video 👍

Thanks for the video, but I have a question. Can we upgrade the ssd by adding a 2tb m2.nvme to the other slot? As on lenovos website it says, you can add only 512gb or 1 tb to the other slot considering (Lenovo store options)?? And does it void warranty to do so by the user himself? Thank you
Thanks man, gonna buy this laptop tomorrow and have my husband upgrade it to me!
i have a question, can you add 2 DDR5 ram's with 6400 Mhz and 16 GB?
@sincerr666 No, the highest speed supported is 5600Mhz.
3:54 dude how did you even do that? The most delicate part of the entire process and you cut out how you did it.
A friend of mine noticed that his VRAM temps are hiting the 106°C, does anyone else here have this problem?
Thermal pads on vram are to SMALL, you need to replace them. This is the issue here.
Probably it should be a ryzen variant because the ryzen processor are hitting around 90 degree Celsius. Recommended your friend to use a cooling pad or customize the setting in custom mode placing your fans into their full speed
Definitely. Lots of room to tweak this laptop into a great little workhorse.
Full speed fans do give a lot more noise. Better to either play in Balanced mode or to get the Ryzen CPU. Keep in mind that the Intel and AMD CPUs this generation are so close, it doesn't really matter which one you pick.

@techknowlux I bought a 1 stick 16g RAM that is 4800 mhz, do you think that the performance will be affected because of the speed of the ram?
There is a difference in performance between 4800Mhz and 5600Mhz, but it's minor. So you'll be running single stick 16GB DDR5?
@@techknowlux i added the stick with the already preinstalled 8GB, and again thanks for the video hope your channel gets more views as it should.

Thanks for the video! I’ve been looking for a while for a good 8gb of ram for my LOQ 15 since the part on the lenovo website is $70 US. The ram you used is only $28 US. And just to confirm, the ram would work with all models of the LOQ 15?
@DugtrioGaming You're welcome. And yes that model of RAM will work with all LOQ models that use DDR5 SODIMM RAM.
@@techknowlux Thank you!
I noticed you didn't remove the battery before you upgrade the ram...is it safe doing that?
It is and it isn't. Depends on who you ask. I took a risk... and it worked for me. Have been doing this all my life upgrading laptops. BUT.. the correct and scientifically backed up opinion is that you should wear anti-static wrist strap, ground yourself, disconnect the battery and *then* attempt the upgrade or tinkering inside.

No it does not.

@sametashori3047 I have heard of this lots too. But I have never tried it. The only way to know exactly is to try it. There are so many variations, BIOS version, motherboard version, that could affect RAM limits. The CPU though *should* support it.

What should I do if one of the very first tiny screws got stripped but are still in the laptop
@thegamergodbroyt4620 Ouch. You'll need some way to remove those screws. I suppose you could try a precision needle nose plier or something to remove them. There are also special tools to remove screws once they've been stripped.

Does anyone you know if the Loq 15 would run 2×16 crucial ram sticks?
I'll tell you that in a couple days, I bought them yesterday, they should be arriving in 8-10 days :)
I bought the crucial 32gb (2x16gb) ddr5 sodimm
@Shane-te6ih Yes it would. You can go up to 32GB max DDR5 RAM in this laptop using 2x16GB sticks.
what if i chip a screw plz help
@Glitchedluke Chip a screw? You mean the threads are worn out so you can no longer use a screwdriver to open the screw? You'll need to use a plier or some screw removal tool to take it out.
@@techknowlux do you know what screws it uses?
Thanks dude
@AngelM1013 You're welcome. Did you go for a max 32GB of RAM?
