Title "avoid this cpu" Entire review "everything is fine with it and it can keep up with higher tiers of cpu. Just that battery life is bad" Who the hell even comes up with these stupid titles ?
The battery life is bad because the CPU lacks integrated graphics. That's why you avoid it. Apparently everyone in this comment thread didn't bother to watch the video.
You are getting 4050/4060 at the price of 3050 by sacrificing 30 minute battery life. 😂 Why should we complain? * No battery sacrifice as compared to Intel HX. Even without iGPU this Amd one has more battery life than intel.
@@galahad5688 then one rather get a desktop lol laptop, no matter gaming or office, should be able to be portable with little to worry about battery life
I ordered this laptop with same specs but with more ssd. The reason I don’t care is because I wont be existing where there are no power outlets. Yes it is nice to have more battery life, but those laptops that given considerable battery life (and have higher screen resolutions) cost several hundred dollars more. I want to use it at several places, but I have power outlets and external monitors there. So I have to critique your title as too click baity.

For anyone who was thinking to buy but after this video is reluctant let me assist you all.. this is best laptop for gaming at this price point if your budget is higher then no question you can have whichever you want but for the price normally a gamer would not game unplugged and still it gives 3 hour battery life at 60 whr battery ...and similar graphics with intell 12450h also last the same on battery despite having igpu so chill and i have used this laptop the thermals are actually really good cpu usage never go above 60 percent and gpu temp always below 70 degrees so for long term its a good point to consider.
Absolutely agree with you. I have been using it for 3 weeks now and I am surpised with gaming performance but also on how quiet and smooth it is when on balanced mode. We should always compare apples to apples: this is a budget gaming laptop not a pro and in its price range there are barely one or two alternatives to compare with.
My personal experience with AMD is superb after roughly 2 months of intensive use. I think the entire point of the video is off. The only limitations I came across with this configuration (7435 and RTX 4060) are low lugg when in Ray tracing mode and mediocre speakers. Probably similar experience with i5 minus the bricked motherboard scare that is associated with loq machines and intel cpus. If battery life is that important you should compare the 2.5 hrs autonomy here with probably a maximum of 4 hrs with intel. It's up to someone's priorities with a bulky gaming laptop
I unplug mine sometimes when I want the fan to STFU, since it's the only way I found to actually make it run on less power / heat and make the fan quiet. The "performance settings" don't seem to change anything. Performance unplugged are barely impacted but the fan either stops or barely turns. Not a "gaming laptop" though. Lenovo Ideapad with Ryzen 5 5625U and integrated graphics. It plays some games, up to Deep Rock Galactic. I hate noise. This laptop in the video is actually interesting since it runs so cool and quiet. But too expensive for me. I'll keep my potato laptop for now unless some very good opportunity comes by.

Step 1 download afterburner step 2 lock the clock at a non boost clock speed. step 3 undervolt until you reach the same power consumption of the iGPU while doing everyday tasks (7-15w) step 4 save the profile so, when you are doing document your 4060 will act at half speed like a normal igpu. When you game, switch the profile and enjoy your powerful external GPU. Problem solved.
the 4060 is officialy stated to run at a minimum of 35w. and undervolt that extreme will never work. plus 99% of users wont even know what you are talking about if you tell them about this, it is extrememly predatory for the masses
@@davitdavid7165 it's minimum 35w when 100% of use. Not 35w when idle state. So if you lock the clock and do a massive undevolt you'll probably don't get the 3w power like an iGpu but you can have a massive uplift in battery life while being able to do all the normal tasks. Ps: windows and Informatics need skills. It's a choice to be an informed consumer or not
Luckily it's doesn't solve the issues, while using igpu only, on idle battery life still sucks. There's an issue on motherboard, some part draw more power, causing overheat and later motherboard getting fried. It's on every LOQ 15xx model, my local lenovo repair center already confirmed there's a lot of cases like this

@@JarrodsTech For a gaming laptop? I think people who cared about sitting without a cord are getting thin and lights. People buying a gaming laptop I don't suspect are ever going to be 3 hours away from an outlet
I have a laptop i9 from a few years ago, the integrated graphics failed and was creating crazy glitches, lucky I figured out the problem and use the laptop permanently on discrete graphics without any problems.
True what Jarrod said. I just bought this laptop (infact I watched this video on it) and while the gaming performance is expected from 4060, the battery life is pretty bad. To workaround it, I always use battery saver mode when i'm using for office works which can last me for 4 - 6 hour and that is enough for me. I don't think there's any reason to ever play games without it plugged on a laptop IMO.
The only criticism seems to be battery life which at 2:10 is shown to be approx 3.5 hours. it is then not contrasted with an IGP LOQ 7735 4060 model but with LOQ's running different CPU/GPU's that get 20% longer battery life. Do they have the same battery mah? How does battery compare when actually gaming? Not sure the title conclusion chimes with the otherwise great review. My summary would be "Bargain budget gaming laptop (20% less battery when non-gaming)". I've seen people claming 6+ hours by turning everything down on similar non IGP setups? Interested to see a re-review focusing solely on battery life of the 7435 chips with "tips and tweaks for battery eeks" as it's low price makes it highly relevant in the budget gaming arena. It would also be handy if the charts showed the release price for each laptop to check we're not comparing apples with oranges.

I was sniffing around Best Buy yesterday while out for groceries and stunbled upon an LOQ just clearance priced @ $316. I asked for one and was told they went on sale that morning and were sold out -so I asked about the display unit. He said same price for just laptop and power -OK, but after about an hour of reset, they rung it up $120! It’s the 7840HS with the GTX4050. Now I ordered another 8G 5600MT SODIMM and a fast NVME gen4 storage to fill the spare slots. I think the LOQ got dised by influences because it shipped without dual channel ram. I was looking for thin and light, but I already have an M1 MBA for that purpose. PRICE first!
I saw this video yesterday and I still bought this exact model today 😊 I'm gonna be plugged in all the time anyway and $799 for a 4060 Laptop is pretty epic. I was gonna get a 4050 model until I saw this price. Great video with good information!

Hi there. I owe this one too and I am surprised by its performance and value. I am also surprised by the torrent of negative feedback this machine attracts by "experts"! Anyway. Today I came across an offer in my local market with a victus model carrying 7840hs and rtx 4070 for the same money I paid for the loq. I was initially disappointed thinking I rushed into buying the loq but doing some research I found out that same games perform better in my (our) machine than in the victus with better specs. For example plaguentale requiem reaches 95 fps on youtube videos with the victus 4070 whereas i get 115fps easily, same settings. My idea? I would appreciate your opinion on this. Ty
@@loukasbalomenos2600 I am really surprised you can get that particular HP Victus for the same money. That model isn't available in the UK but I found it in France for the eye watering price of €2,850 ($US 3,100)! Here you can get the Victus with a 4060 for £899 but that comes with a crappy i5-12500H & a 250 nit screen...and that's STILL £200 more than I paid for my LOQ. Under normal circumstances, I'd say if you can get a 4070 Victus for $US 900, then go for it but TBH, it sounds way too good to be true. The lower FPS says to me they mean the 4050 & the 4070 is a typo!

I should have talked more about the naming scheme, because this is a perfect point - the 7535HS has fewer cores and threads, so it's actually a lower tier part as far as raw CPU performance goes, but it has an iGPU and has a higher number than the 7435HS, so people may just assume it's better in every way.
On the upside... not need for mux This is also why im thinking about getting a pre owned laptop off ebay instead of official retailers. Models in AU just suck

As someone who owns this laptop and thinks gaming unplugged is stupid, id rather avoid this video. I respect you for your knowledge in this field but this is a great laptop.
No, this laptop is amazing. Who uses gaming laptops on battery when they are specifically designed to be used while plugged in? Gaming laptop batteries are not made for long-term use without being plugged in; they are only meant to be used in emergencies. Another plus point is that when a laptop doesn't have an integrated GPU (iGPU), the dedicated GPU (dGPU) directly displays the image on the screen, which significantly improves performance. That's why some high-end laptops have a MUX switch. Also checking prices of all laptops comparing it with also important
Hey Jarod! Do you know a good power bank or alternative to charge a gaming laptop when traveling? As you know, gaming laptop batteries are quite quick to run out. How do you deal with this?
At the time of this comment, among LOQ laptops, these AMD variants without iGPU might be the best option. The 7000 series variants with iGPU are all out of stock, the 8000 series variants are just too expensive, and the Intel variants have a high risk of motherboards dying (one guy on reddit had 5 mobo replacements). Almost feels like Lenovo created this situation on purpose
In India🇮🇳, Dell G15 Ryzen 7 7840HS 16GB DDR5 165Hz 512Gb is INR 1,08,890/- which is USD 1300.61$ and Lenovo LOQ R7 7435HS 24GB DDR5 144Hz 512Gb is INR 86,990/- which is USD 1039.07$ I should probably go with the LOQ😅
I am one of those here who have actually bought it. I made a conscious choice of sacrificing battery life for performance being on a tight budget. The title of the video is a bit of a let-down for us owners, but you actually point some of its merits through your review. My experience with the machine confirms your data. So I think a fair presentation would be to place the product in a "value for money" context. At least in Greece I couldn't find a more attractive option (including 3 years warantee and xbox ultimate pass for 3 months!) But yes, potential buyers should be warned about the limitations in autonomy.

@@AlphaNOVA69 well, I did post this about a month I go, I'm pretty sure it was about a laptop and it's battery life and if that's what you're talking about, then you can go and looking at video app and you can change the battery life settings and then you can actually get half decent battery life from your gaming laptop. My comment though not very well worth. It was supposed to say that gamey laptops are not designed as office computers. You're obviously not going to get the best backs your life out of them. And I am guilty of that.. I just spent three and a half thousand pounds on the laptop with two hours. Battery life and well it's my own fault, really? Because I'm using it for letters and work are for its entangled purpose, which was gaming. You can get better life out of the gaming laptop. You just have to be a bit more clever about it. You have to change the CPU settings to throttle it to like five percent when on battery and you have to do the same with your graphics card in the settings menus of the Nvidia app. It's not a gnarkey comment I was serious don't buy gaming laptops for works. I made that mistake. You're not going to get amazing. The battery life out of it. And well, that's just the way they are. And that's what annoyed me about the video.
Might as well save money on the 7840HS if it's available for less money, almost the same thing in terms of performance shown in this video with the Legions.
I would go with a laptop like this but is there any difference in thermals/fan noise when compared to laptops with integrated graphics with or without a mux switch? Also is there any meaningful change in battery life with an AMD gpu?
I didn't bother with the full fan recording setup just basic thermals here, but I can't say I noticed or thought about it during testing, didn't seem any louder.
Here in the UK it was about £200 cheaper than the Ryzen 7 8845HS version last week and cheaper than the Intel ARC version, so ordered it for £645 with RTX 4060 and 1TB drive. There doesn't seem to be anything close in price here with an RTX 4060 and although the screen isn't that bright at least the sRGB coverage is decent, better than the some of the other lower budget systems. For this price I think the lack of iGPU compromise is fine, although worth warning people about it.
for me the lack of iGPU is a plus, one less thing to disable, since i always check if a laptop has a mux switch or no iGPU before i settle on buying it.
@@arvindsingh2168 So that i can disable the iGPU during gaming, editing or any GPU intensive tasks also i detest Optimus since it was launched. YMMV as always and for me when buying gaming laptops having MUX switch or no IGPU the better. Gaming laptops in my opinion should not have Optimus
That first chart highlighting the huge difference in battery life between the 7435HS & other CPUs only applies if you're watching cat videos on RUclips. If you take those lines away & compare battery life whilst playing The Witcher 3, then it paints a very different picture indeed. The LOQ lasts 103 minutes on battery which is more or less what ALL the laptops last! And there's the rub...this is a GAMING LAPTOP who's prime function is playing games. If your focus is watching RUclips on a long distance flight to Oz, just buy a dirt cheap Chromebook!
Good day. I would like to inquire about the integrated graphics capabilities of the Lenovo LOQ 15AHP9 laptop equipped with the AMD Ryzen™ 7 8845HS Processor. Kindly provide me with the relevant specifications and confirm if the device indeed features integrated graphics. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
I mean, the biggest problem here is nVidia GPU's and their awful power consumption on battery, I get it, no iGPU no excuses, but seriously, nVidia no excuses either.
When I saw this online I thought the CPU name was a typo. I wouldn't necessarily avoid this for my use case as I mostly use gaming laptops as a desktop replacement that, if I really needed to, I can just disconnect and pack without the clunkiness of SFF + portable monitor that would sit even lower on the table. That said...how many people would actually get this knowingly? While a lot more people than you'd think need the battery more as a back up power (to save and shut down) or for short busts of working away from the wall, I imagine most people buying gaming laptops as desktop replacements that totally won't care about the battery life are way more likely to get a bigger laptop than a Loq not just for the screen but for the cooling and performance. If this was 2018 or so they'll just put this CPU in a bigger chassis and call it a day, but when you've got 16cores in a G17 or even more (albeit due to eCores) on a Scar18 or a Titan, couldn't they have just marketed this CPU to, say, MinisForum? I'd take this in a miniPC with a dGPU, or that mITX board with a laptop CPU that just needs a regular 120mm fan and the built-in cooler to stay cool (at the very least you wouldn't need to go digging online what top-down cooler fits on what motherboard depending on RAM - not like a desktop CPU in such an SFF build will sustain 5.0ghz+ all core anyway).
Can we refund a lenovo laptop even if it hasn't had any problem yet? I had the LOQ 15IRX9 with i5-13450hx 3050 one, its been 2 months since i bought it online but i havent had any issue other than the battery drop. (I'm scared of the motherboard issue thats happening nowadays)😢
I thought this was a thing on intels new meme, where nothing you can do, just wait for the patch in august and hope your thing doesn't crash. either way, it doesn't affect me, my old busted laptop has one purpose and it's to feed my factorio addiction.
I wonder if that patch will go out for laptop cpu's since they said they aren't affected... at least that's kinda good news something is being done and addressed and may totally fix it instead of everything being up in the air with nothing said lol.
Haha yeah we used to do 2 videos every week last year, but dropped to 1 this year as there's less released with lack of interesting hardware - I just had to prioritize this one though, didn't want to delay sharing the results.
Of course, but we won't see it until next year, and then decent prices and availability will be months after launch, so depends if you want to actually use something anytime soon. 4080 should still offer excellent performance for years.
so far we only have rumors and most of those are on the desktop side. I do like the g16, but would probably ait till then. When we know more about the gpu and vendors are clearing out space and lowering prices more it might be a smart buy
4080 was such a huge leap for laptop gaming it can play things so well and now with dlss and frame generation on top of it I wouldn't worry about missing out. It's almost like a 3090 desktop gpu in a laptop which is crazy and 8-12 months waiting for the new laptops is a really long time you could be gaming so up to you.
@@unionofslavstanrepublics2317 its a moot point anyways, desktop replacement have never seen battery life as a crucial department, rather the mobile workstation needs
Yeah that's not really the point, I agree gaming on battery power is dumb (though people do it), it's more about using the battery for other tasks, like just watching a movie or going to school/work etc.
I literally came across this CPU in a similar LOQ model and was really surprised to see the cheaper than lower price considering it's just a rebranded 6800H. Now I know why. Thanks Jared. You're the GOAT
i have it for about 2 months , super nice laptop, low temps great performance !Before that i had an hp victus with ryzen 5 5600h and gtx 1650 and for some reason the loq lasts longer unplugged ,in gaming it is certain that lasts longer and in youtube most likely !I do not know exactly why but it is 100 % true! Also it does play in the same settings and almost same fps plugged and unplugged which was not the case with the old one which did have integrated graphics! Cpu and gpu is super conservartive in power might be the reason.
btw , i got the HP Victus 16 , it's also very poor battery life , just 2 hours office work , 60% battery life gone . the LCD also very worst compare to other 45% NTSC panel .
Are they though? Like, are you just one out of 5-10 vocal people? How many are there? I'm sure from your perspective it seems bad, you have to deal with it, I just can't get an idea of how widespread it actually is myself and it's hard to get any useful info from Lenovo.

Lol after looking for a laptop for weeks I finally decided on the Legion Slim 5 with Ryzen 7 7435HS & GeForce RTX 4070 and ordered it. The product description even highlights the MUX switch, which I had as a must. Efficiency to me is key, because I work from my van with a solar setup. I only checked the CPU's performance which seemed OK to me. 20W more to me means having to check the main battery more often. I even ordered all the parts to build my own DC-DC power supply for this to save a bit on conversion (in-)efficiency. This seems a bit dumb after learning what I know now :/
I have LOQ with 7840HS + RTX 4050 and 7435HS + RTX 4060 at same price I do CPU-Heavy tasks And play GPU intensive games when free I am inclined towards more 7840HS + RTX 4050 But the 7435HS + RTX 4060 is steal deal and I can't find 4060 cheaper than that What should I do ?

anything is better than intel i9-14900HX. That cpu is unstable AF. I needed to disable my optimus to prevent my G16 Rog Strix from Blue screening all the time. I don't really care about battery life tbh.
Shall I go with this or i5 12th gen intel cpu 4060gpu ??
My personal experience with AMD is superb after roughly 2 months of intensive use. I think the entire point of the video is off. The only limitations I came across with this configuration (7435 and RTX 4060) are low lugg when in Ray tracing mode and mediocre speakers. Probably similar experience with i5 minus the bricked motherboard scare that is associated with loq machines and intel cpus. If battery life is that important you should compare the 2.5 hrs autonomy here with probably a maximum of 4 hrs with intel. It's up to someone's priorities with a bulky gaming laptop

Yeah I agree, gaming on battery is a bad idea in most cases.
Does it really give 4hours?

Why is it called Ryzen 7, when the 4 stands for Ryzen 4, and the 3 is Zen 3 which was back from the 5000 series ??
Yeah I'm not sure, when I bought it I thought it was Ryzen 5 because it's a lower number than the 7535HS, but that's not the case.
By their own "Ryzen 7000" mobile naming graph the 7435HS should be a Ryzen 3 even though no H or HS Ryzen CPU is a Ryzen 3
It being a 16 thread chip that has a model name below the 12 thread 7535HS doesn't help either
Don't get me started on the "Ryzen 5 *7235HS* "
is this a good laptop? is that any motherboard problems?
i am planing for buying this laptop
Why would AMD even do this to a laptop? Damn this sucks! They should give us a 200 Wh battery to make up for the lack of integrated graphics.
its not legal on a plane so they wont.
I guess because it's better than wasting the chips, might as well try use them for something. The only issue I have with it is unless you know what a 7435HS is, you'd probably just buy it without knowing the limit of no iGPU.
AMD has been lying since the release of zen on laptops. And they do it because people buy these devices and continue to do so while defending AMD.
@@JarrodsTech Wait, don't you also have a problem of AMD selling a 2 gen old chip under the ryzen 7000 naming? Thats a pretty big problem.
AMD has nothing to do with the laptop design and manufacturing. In this case, Lenovo ordered and assembled the parts.
I’m more concerned with performance than battery life.
People don't by gaming laptop battery life and if you enable the Nvidia battery saving features then you will get very similar to an integrated vpu from Intel
Hey I just bought this laptop, what features are you talking about, would you care to explain?

Hey. My Lenovo loq died. i5 12450hx , rtx 4060. It worked only for 1 month before dying 😢
Why mux is important?@@alastairgreen_Nexus

It has integrated graphics, check the AMD product page if in doubt.
Saying hs version doesn't have igpu, so the battery backup is bad?
I mean, the biggest problem here is nVidia GPU's and their awful power consumption on battery, I get it, no iGPU no excuses, but seriously, nVidia no excuses either.
What about Intel 13 and 14 gen problem, why there is no video from you specialy if laptops are also affected
Intel 13 and 14 gen mobile are not affected, only desktop cpu versions have problems
Surprised it actually last for 2 months but hopefully those issue will not heppen for all LOQ user 😔
Nice video! I was waiting for this!
I thought this was a thing on intels new meme, where nothing you can do, just wait for the patch in august and hope your thing doesn't crash. either way, it doesn't affect me, my old busted laptop has one purpose and it's to feed my factorio addiction.
Yeah I was wondering if it might get confused with that, I'll think about a new title and maybe add in the "7435HS" somewhere.
I wonder if that patch will go out for laptop cpu's since they said they aren't affected... at least that's kinda good news something is being done and addressed and may totally fix it instead of everything being up in the air with nothing said lol.

Do you expect an improvement in the performance of 5000 GPU in the laptop? Should I buy now the Asus Rog G16 Intel i9 14900 hx RTX 4080?
Of course, but we won't see it until next year, and then decent prices and availability will be months after launch, so depends if you want to actually use something anytime soon. 4080 should still offer excellent performance for years.
so far we only have rumors and most of those are on the desktop side. I do like the g16, but would probably ait till then. When we know more about the gpu and vendors are clearing out space and lowering prices more it might be a smart buy
4080 was such a huge leap for laptop gaming it can play things so well and now with dlss and frame generation on top of it I wouldn't worry about missing out.
