I guess there's a reason why the stock BIOS has an option to completely disable the battery and run only off the 170W charger, as it can't charge both the battery and power the rest of the motherboard at the same time when the TGP is already at 105W with the CPU at 45W of TDP. The rest goes to the screen backlight and chipset. Lenovo's documents even state the TGP is higher with the 230W charger.
today i called the customer support and told them about the battery drain issue They ran some checks and registered a ticket for upgrading my adapter to 230W (Note: I have lenovo premium care plan) Thanks for the video
also use conservation mode from vantage... don't keep the battery @100 if you are using it on charger & you know that you are going to use it for longer period.... my 2021 ideapad gaming 3 still has 94% battery health.. i started using conservation mode after 6 months of purchase.. its very helpful as I'm all time plugged in because i use 3d softwares and use external 2k monitor... so plugged in and battery automatically stays between 60-65
@@NEXUS442 conservation mode limits your lenovo laptop to around 60%, it hovers between 60-65% automatically.. it doesn't let the battery charge upto 100%.. So, when you are using the laptop for longer period, you can use it while plugged in.. basically it is not using your battery anymore, as it's like running off your charger.. and the battery stays at around 60%.. Like this you don't have to charge your battery again & again when you ee are using it for longer periods, also it's not letting the battery go to 100% as keeping thr battery at 100% is also not good .. this way the battery health remains very good as the battery is not doing the charging - discharging cycle... Also, plugged in laptop gives the best performance.. mostly noticable when gaming or when doing heavy tasks... For example -I use my laptop for 12hrs+ every day, so my gaming laptop runs 3 hrs on 100% battery, but i do 3d stuff, so under heavy load it will last 1hr maybe, so do the calculation how many times i have to charge the laptop to use it for 12hrs a day.. (very bad for battery health) If I don't use conservation mode, and use the laptop with charger, it will stay 100% for more than 12hrs throughout my usage.. (also, bad for battery health) But if i use charger + conservation mode, my battery will stay @ around 60% throughout the 12hrs of usage (as the laptop runs through the charger and the battery stays @ 60 = very good battery health in long run) *My laptop will be 3years old this October and the battery health is still around 93%

@@yourname7254 no, conservation mode locks the battery percentage at whatever percentage it's in (if the battery is above 60%) If the battery is below 60, then only it charges upto 60.. If my battery is at 78% and I turn on conservation mode, it will stay at 78% until i remove the charger.
So this 230watt adapter will be provided to people with normal 1year warranty or people who have this special "premium care" purchased ?? , Anyone with normal 1 year warranty won't get this right???

update as he mentioned I also faced the same battery drain issue while playing ghost on tsushima.. when plugged in with the 170w charger provided by Lenovo on my brand new Lenovo loq. All I did was turn off the rapid charging mode. And my issue was solved 🙂 .. it worked for me
@@ogaditya Nope I usually don't play for 5-6 hrs straight but I did play Ghost of tushima for 3 hrs straight and didn't face any drain.. all I did was turn off the rapid charging option in Lenovo vantage.. no issues after that.

Well in custom settings you can set the cpu on 85 watt and gpu on 115 meaning that the 230 watt might not be still enough because the adapter wattage .
That's not how it works my guy. When CPU + GPU both are active max combined power is 165W. This is the absolute max (on average it's around 135W). CPU alone ~ 80W GPU alone ~ 115W Both combined ~150W

I purchased it offline; the laptop cost me roughly 64K and additional items and warranty cost me total 71K. The only issue I had was with battery depletion. If you don't plug in the battery while gaming, the battery drains quickly; if you do, the battery works fine. Overall, I had an excellent experience.

@@DeepteshLovesTECH i general when I used my Old rog laptop the default monitor framrate was 144hz . But with LOQ my monitor is capped at 120 hz ... Not in games but the general refresh rate of the monitor when I connect it with my laptop through HDMI cable. My laptop display screen 1 is 144hz but the external monitor screen 2 is only giving an output of 120hz.

I've got a Gigabyte G series 165 Hz monitor connected to my PC's GPU through HDMI port, and it gets capped to 144 Hz because it's not connected to the GPU through the Display Port. So, I guess the same is the issue with yours and laptops don't come with display ports. If you want max refresh rate on your monitor you should consider getting a PC with a newer GPU.
I'm facing the same issue. I was playing Warhammer 40k: Space Marines 2 and the battery dropped to around 42% in just 2.5-3 hours of gaming. Faced the same issue with World War Z too. Lenovo Support is saying this is a "feature". Fuck that.

you can turn on the battery protection via bios, and it will not drain with reduced performance, or buy a 230w too bad its the latter you will need to do.

Power usages 4060 or 4070 takes 90 w Processor 65 w Screen tooks 60 w Motherboard and ram hdd and Cooling fan takes min 25 w Total = 90+65+60+25 = 240 w for all gaming laptop
Screen takes 60W are you kidding me 🤣 Even my massive 27 inch 1440p external monitor does not use that much! Let me give you some idea, if you remove the charger and just stay in idle state, check the battery drain from Hwinfo64, it'll be like total 25-35W... so entire system is drawing 35W from the battery.

The BIOS is literally programmed to use battery+ac adapter power to reach power targets. There is a BIOS update to fix it, but it is not fully effective, it's better than previous though. Anyways it's not a huge concern - it's your wish to upgrade the adapter.

@@som8072 they will not reply bro , there's an option for preparing a call , fill the info and the ticket number, and then they will immediately call you , then tell them your problem and they will download some softwares on your pc and check some reports and after that , they'll provide you the charger And if they ask for the proof - just keep a screen recording (15-30 minutes of gameplay)of the percentage of battery before playing and then after 20-30 minutes of gameplay, show the battery percentage then

12450HX 4060. The GPU upgrade is more worth than the CPU upgrade in this case. The extra 2 GB VRAM is really worth it, meanwhile the performance jump from the 12450HX to the 13450HX is not that significant. Also the lower risk of the 12th Gen LOQ compared to the 13th Gen is icing on the cake.

I got an AMD 7 HS CPU with the RTX 4060 LOQ and the motherboard lasted 3 weeks. Luckily the place I bought it has a replacement policy so I walked out with another laptop.

I have ordered i5 13th gen , 16gb ram, 3050 with QHD display at 73k along with warranty, its just ill have to wait atleast till august 1st week to get it 😭😭, my asus vivobook pro 15 oled got its third motherboard issue in just 2 years, I didnt took the warranty, big mistake and now I dont want to invest in its repair as i dont think after 3 motherboard replace i can expect it work more than 1 year again. Motherboard dying is not related to adapter. It's related to Intel/Lenovo. 13th and 14th gen are highly susceptible to this. Rewarding power adapter - the laptop requests power from the power adapter as per it's needs. Not the other way round. This is common sense.

I guess there's a reason why the stock BIOS has an option to completely disable the battery and run only off the 170W charger, as it can't charge both the battery and power the rest of the motherboard at the same time when the TGP is already at 105W with the CPU at 45W of TDP. The rest goes to the screen backlight and chipset. Lenovo's documents even state the TGP is higher with the 230W charger.
They will change the adaptor only if you have taken premium subscription of the support version. Or they just discard the request.

also use conservation mode from vantage... don't keep the battery @100 if you are using it on charger & you know that you are going to use it for longer period....
my 2021 ideapad gaming 3 still has 94% battery health.. i started using conservation mode after 6 months of purchase.. its very helpful as I'm all time plugged in because i use 3d softwares and use external 2k monitor... so plugged in and battery automatically stays between 60-65

@@NEXUS442 conservation mode limits your lenovo laptop to around 60%, it hovers between 60-65% automatically.. it doesn't let the battery charge upto 100%..
So, when you are using the laptop for longer period, you can use it while plugged in.. basically it is not using your battery anymore, as it's like running off your charger.. and the battery stays at around 60%..
Like this you don't have to charge your battery again & again when you ee are using it for longer periods, also it's not letting the battery go to 100% as keeping thr battery at 100% is also not good .. this way the battery health remains very good as the battery is not doing the charging - discharging cycle...
Also, plugged in laptop gives the best performance.. mostly noticable when gaming or when doing heavy tasks...
For example -I use my laptop for 12hrs+ every day, so my gaming laptop runs 3 hrs on 100% battery, but i do 3d stuff, so under heavy load it will last 1hr maybe, so do the calculation how many times i have to charge the laptop to use it for 12hrs a day.. (very bad for battery health)
If I don't use conservation mode, and use the laptop with charger, it will stay 100% for more than 12hrs throughout my usage.. (also, bad for battery health)
But if i use charger + conservation mode, my battery will stay @ around 60% throughout the 12hrs of usage (as the laptop runs through the charger and the battery stays @ 60 = very good battery health in long run)
*My laptop will be 3years old this October and the battery health is still around 93%

If the battery is below 60, then only it charges upto 60..
If my battery is at 78% and I turn on conservation mode, it will stay at 78% until i remove the charger.

update as he mentioned I also faced the same battery drain issue while playing ghost on tsushima.. when plugged in with the 170w charger provided by Lenovo on my brand new Lenovo loq. All I did was turn off the rapid charging mode. And my issue was solved 🙂 .. it worked for me

Well in custom settings you can set the cpu on 85 watt and gpu on 115 meaning that the 230 watt might not be still enough because the adapter wattage .
That's not how it works my guy.
When CPU + GPU both are active max combined power is 165W. This is the absolute max (on average it's around 135W).
CPU alone ~ 80W
GPU alone ~ 115W
Both combined ~150W
Is there same motherboard issue and battery drain in LOQ AMD series
Battery drain is present in all LOQs with 3050 and above GPU models that ship with 170W adapter.
Mobo issue is much less with AMD models.

Not in games but the general refresh rate of the monitor when I connect it with my laptop through HDMI cable. My laptop display screen 1 is 144hz but the external monitor screen 2 is only giving an output of 120hz.

I've got a Gigabyte G series 165 Hz monitor connected to my PC's GPU through HDMI port, and it gets capped to 144 Hz because it's not connected to the GPU through the Display Port. So, I guess the same is the issue with yours and laptops don't come with display ports. If you want max refresh rate on your monitor you should consider getting a PC with a newer GPU.
I'm facing the same issue. I was playing Warhammer 40k: Space Marines 2 and the battery dropped to around 42% in just 2.5-3 hours of gaming. Faced the same issue with World War Z too. Lenovo Support is saying this is a "feature". Fuck that.

you can turn on the battery protection via bios, and it will not drain with reduced performance, or buy a 230w too bad its the latter you will need to do.

Let me give you some idea, if you remove the charger and just stay in idle state, check the battery drain from Hwinfo64, it'll be like total 25-35W... so entire system is drawing 35W from the battery.

bro i have purchased loq 13450hx rtx 3050 for 63k…. should it make sense after listening all this motherboard stuff and these battery drain issue is a feature of loq in further days u will get a bios update in which u can get three modes of battery drainage so u can control it without using 230w
The BIOS is literally programmed to use battery+ac adapter power to reach power targets.
There is a BIOS update to fix it, but it is not fully effective, it's better than previous though. Anyways it's not a huge concern - it's your wish to upgrade the adapter.

@@som8072 they will not reply bro , there's an option for preparing a call , fill the info and the ticket number, and then they will immediately call you , then tell them your problem and they will download some softwares on your pc and check some reports and after that , they'll provide you the charger
And if they ask for the proof - just keep a screen recording (15-30 minutes of gameplay)of the percentage of battery before playing and then after 20-30 minutes of gameplay, show the battery percentage then

12450HX 4060. The GPU upgrade is more worth than the CPU upgrade in this case. The extra 2 GB VRAM is really worth it, meanwhile the performance jump from the 12450HX to the 13450HX is not that significant. Also the lower risk of the 12th Gen LOQ compared to the 13th Gen is icing on the cake.
Basic rule: Future proof the GPU as GPUs last much lesser than CPUs. 12450HX will last 10 years, while 4050 is already outdated.

HX just allows for undervolting which allows for cooler temps without losing performance.

I have ordered i5 13th gen , 16gb ram, 3050 with QHD display at 73k along with warranty, its just ill have to wait atleast till august 1st week to get it 😭😭, my asus vivobook pro 15 oled got its third motherboard issue in just 2 years, I didnt took the warranty, big mistake and now I dont want to invest in its repair as i dont think after 3 motherboard replace i can expect it work more than 1 year again. I'll really miss the OLED display of that device so i made sure to get the 350 nits display on this one. I cant go on investing another 1 lakh anyways now

have you been facing any other issue after the 230w adapter because i have a 2023 loq with i7 13th gen and rtx 4060 and when i demanded 230w power adapter from the company they told me that the people who got 230w replacement adapter for their 170w adapter are now facing motherboard issue because the 230w adapter is providing a lot more power than the laptop could handle.

Motherboard dying is not related to adapter. It's related to Intel/Lenovo.
13th and 14th gen are highly susceptible to this.
Rewarding power adapter - the laptop requests power from the power adapter as per it's needs. Not the other way round. This is common sense.

They told me it was happening because of the adapter just to not give it to me but when I forced them yesterday on the 6th day then they told me that they have mailed for the request of 230w adapter and today I'll call them back right now to get the update that I'm getting it or not and if they again started the buls**t of motherboard crash I'll make sure that Lenovo regret making this piece of dog 💩

I have ordered the Lenovo loq 15ahp9 (rtx 4050 , Ryzen 5 8645 hs) is it likely that I might face the same issues although the hs processors are power efficient.
AMD units are relatively less affected but be warned.
