17:11 the guy complaining at the hotel lobby is Bill Paxton's (main male character from Twister) son. He wanted to be in the movie to honor his dad, who passed away in 2017. Also the lady who was sitting next to Glen Powell at the rodeo is the only actor/extra that appears in both the original and this movie. Once Glen Powell found out who she was he had her move next to him in the rodeo scene.
The original Twister was an "event" movie like Independence Day or Cloverfield, huge hype beforehand, stuff in trailers we'd never seen (the cow flying away still lives rent free in my head thirty years later), and it lived up to the hype when it came out. Twisters, for some reason I feel like i went in with no expectations, even though I thoroughly enjoyed the first. And I ended up loving this.
you went in with no expectations because at this point, we've seen dozens of decades-later sequels to iconic movies and they've fallen short. i think most people have learned to set expectations lower for movies like this by now. it also helps that twister was a simple movie that didn't have any grand ideas or deep themes to expand on behind it like jurassic park, terminator, or alien and so it's criteria for enjoyment is less complex; halfway decent humor, good characters, and cool tornadoes is all they needed.
That's interesting because I liked the new one but thought the CGI was one of the more disappointing things about it. The clouds, the grass, the dandelion fuzz... all looked very cartoonish to me.
Glen Powell's character was partially based on Reed Timmer, who they followed around for a bit during the writing phase. He has a RUclips channel and has been on a few shows like Discovery's Storm Chasers (episodes posted on RUclips).
Reed is the best there is, even drives into tornados from time to time, Yep he was on the show Storm Chasers but is so much more, based not far from me.
Saw this in theaters in a completely sold out 4DX (chairs shaking, lights flashing, smells, water spray) auditorium. Genuinely one of the best theater experiences I’ve ever had. They brought it BACK into that format like a month later because word of mouth was so strong and demand was so high They even had 1996 Twister in 4DX theaters but I couldn’t see that one in time. Y’all woulda had a blast I know it
I love this new movie. It’s a nice love letter to the fans and weather needs everywhere. A ton of the extras are legit storm chasers. You can pay to go on storm chasing tour groups for a week or so during the spring.
Crystal Springs is actually my hometown of Chickasha. It was incredibly cool seeing so many places in this movie that I'm familiar with. However, I feel like the first one was really grounded in the meteorology and science. I feel like this leaned into the disaster movie trope more than the original. The VFX on the storms were incredible. But I give this one a 6. Also, if there was a chance of sever weather like that, any event like a rodeo would have been postponed. These things don't just drop out of nowhere. We typically know at least a week in advance about the risk level and zone. We actually had a few touch down just last night that caused a lot of damage only about 5 miles from my house.
Underpasses are indeed the worst places to be in a tornado for two reasons. One, it can act as a wind tunnel which increases wind speeds. Two, and more important, it's a wind trap collecting all of the garbage stuck in the tornado. Imagine being there with all that debris coming at you at speeds faster than a car. Not where you want to be.
@@edinalewis4704 I was stuck in such a situation back in the mid 90's. In my car on a gravel road in the middle of Iowa. I got into the ditch and hugged the ground as it went over me. Granted it was probably only an EF1 if that, but it was enough to turn my car 180 degrees on the road. But if you want to stand out in an open field waving your arms, sure, go for it.
If there are no other options you can use an overpass but it is hit and miss. Can protect you from flying objects or trap you in with them and can also suck you out, all depends on the wind and it's force and direction.
Having lived in Oklahoma, the reactions to the sirens like the scene in the gas station and the depictions of damage and how the tornados form is pretty accurate. I was really impressed at how accurate this movie is.
The EF scale is the wind of the tornado and also the damage is left behind it. EF 5 wind speed averages above 200mph, and damage can average bout a mile wide.
As to whether the way of collapsing tornados could work in real life, not really. The concept behind the idea is correct, but the amount of polymers you would actually need makes it basically impossible.

native Oklahoman here whose lived through 2 EF5 tornados that hit Moore Oklahoma and to answer Jens question yes, the category of the tornado is determined by the size of the tornado. there actually 2 different categories to measure tornados. First is called the Fujita scale (F1,F2,F3,F4,F5) and these tornados are really windy but dissipate quickly. Then theres the Enhanced Fujita scale (EF1, EF2, EF3, EF4, EF5) these tornados are just as windy as the original Fujita scale tornados, but these tornados are far more dangerous as they dont dissipate quickly. theyll land on the ground and destroy everything in there path and then jump around and do it again. The last EF5 that hit the USA was Moore back on May 20th 2013. it was 2.6 miles wide and lasted about 45-50 minutes and went about 14-17 miles before dissipating causing over $2 billion worth of damage. this was by far the most recent biggest tornado but by far not the deadliest. we have really good warning systems so most people were safe but other states warning systems are as good and this is why more deaths occur in other tornados outside of Oklahoma. Texas receives more tornados than we do and i think it was Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana back in 1925 that got hit the hardest ever recorded with over 695 people killed and traveled 219 miles.
I grew up in Chickasha. Watched both the 2013 and 1998 tornadoes from my back yard. Used to work at Convergys there in Moore. I know this is late but David Corenswet left the filming of this movie to go do his final screen test for Superman. He got the part and there’s a video of the Twisters cast reacting to the news
Interesting fact I found out by watching the special features on the Blu-ray about how the movie was made. They went into areas that were damaged by tornadoes during filming and help clean up debris then take that same debris they helped clean up and use it to create their filming locations during certain parts of filming. So all the debris you see is from real disaster areas just repurposed
I don’t know if it would get a lot of views but “Normal People” with Daisy Edgar Jones & Paul Mescal (Gladiator 2) is one of the best one season series’ I have ever watched. I absolutely knew both would become stars after watching it. Incredible.
What is funny is after watching this I had to prepare for severe weather in Oklahoma this afternoon/evening. Nothing like Oklahoma weather, if you don’t like it, just wait 5 mins! Good job you two keep it up!
A message for Jen. Some of the RUclips storm chasers use their super chat money they earn from the videos as fundraisers to help the cities and towns that get hit by tornadoes.
Helen Hunt wanted to be in the sequel. Bill Paxton and her (separately) were trying to get sequels going since the early 2000s. They changed the story to this movie and offered Hunt a cameo and she turned it down. I half expected her mom to be Helen Hunt the way they had her in the dark then turned the light on. I think it would’ve been a bit better if they would’ve had her be the daughter of Bill & Jo. 15:51 my issue though is why are they selling them where destruction just hit. They should be selling them online or any place that isn’t hit by a tornado. The people buying the shirts should just be buying the food from them. 18:32 he did tell her she could take the truck earlier. 20:08 you could do it the same way they opened the barrels.
It would be surprising... if you thought this was better than the original 😅 My problems with / fixes for this movie... - Five years later and the lead is still crazy depressed. I get that one or two years later, but five years later, she should have moved on a bit. Though the sads can absolutely come crashing back when IN THE HEIGHTS stops by for a visit. (PS: LOVED the way Holden changed him expression for Jen's sake at 6:16) - What do EXTREME weather influencers do when there are no tornadoes? Would have made more sense for them to be a team that travels the world year-round for extreme weather events, and they come thru the midwest when tornado events are at their highest. Add a tech guy that you could BUY being part of their squad, and that's how they can make a truck that'll stick to the ground. - Pay better respect to the original. They make it seem like everything done in the original movie didn't do a damn thing to help with tornado prevention (plus the lead has some sci-fi magical solution to "cure" tornados. The ONLY reference to the original was Dorothy. Why not namecheck someone from the original as one of their professors or mentors. - IN THE HEIGHTS is a handsome feller, but when you have a love triangle between him and bad boy Glenn Powell, Powell's gonna win. If they wanted a real love triangle, should have swapped her bf with IN THE HEIGHTS. I could see that dude at Howell's rizz level. - Phillip Seymour Hoffman was a scene DEVOURER. They needed at least ONE of Powell's support crew to be more charismatic. - "I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE!" is a bit TOO villainy for future Superman
I’ve always wanted to go on a storm chaser tour! I wanted to be a storm chaser when I was younger and I still have a bit of the urge to make it happen.
With the way Kate could sense weather and patterns.. thought they would have e connected to the human barometer (Bill) as a daughter or something of him and Jo, but with Paxtons passing probably made that a tougher option. Would have really tied her gift together nicely tho! Keep up the great work!
My boi Holden is really off his game lately. At first Jen says "that swallowed him up whole" and he doesnt even flinch, then the guy at the end goes "look at the size of that thing" and Holden just let it slide as if nothing was said. I dont even know what to say at this point. :) My only gripe with this moive was the conflict between the two groups. Totally forced. In the first movie they were competing with each other but here one group was trying to work on the perimeter of the storm the other was YOLOing into the middle. Not at all working towards the same goal. I dont see any reason for a conflict to be had there.
Man, Javi was looking so familiar but the other work I knew him from kept missing me... Then it hit. He played Laurens in Hamilton, I remember him from that performance they did at the White House for Pres. Obama and guests!
The EF scale is based off of destruction. :-) Hello from Oklahoma, where we just had tornadoes come through, lol. In November! We call it "Second Season" Also, did y'all add in the Superman theme or was that an Easter egg for him I didn't notice the first time? Haha
Hey Holden, the next movies you and Jen should watch are the military movies. Like Saving Private Ryan, We Were Soldiers, Fury, Hacksaw Ridge, 13 Hours, and American Sniper. These are good military movies. Some of them are based on a true story, some are not but based on military novels, and what soldiers go through when there at war.
Two storm chasers were chasing the same twister an one of them ran a Stop sign and T Boned the other chaser. He's on trial for his death. It was all caught on their Go Pros. This happened about two years ago. It's a dangerous hobby for a lot of people. It could be fun if done with respect for Mother Nature.
The official rating of a tornado on the EF scale is determined by the damage it causes. It's gotten pretty controversial because technically if you had a storm with windspeeds and size that would normally be classified as an EF5, but it happens in a field and doesn't hit anything, it would not be necessarily classified as such. Calling out the rating of a tornado in the moment or before damage assessments have been done is just a guess. Don't get me wrong, I love these movies, love these storms, and love your reactions! Of course in movies they have to take a bit of license--I did not go into it expecting hyper-realism, but my gripes list as far as the science goes was not as long as I thought it would be!
I had to watch this movie three times to enjoy it. I love the original. It's probably my second favorite movie (behind Jurassic Park), so this movie had a lot for me to live up to. I was hyped by all the good reviews but ended up disappointed. But I've given it a fair chance, and I've warmed up to it. I had to stop comparing it to the original and judge it on its own merits to start fully enjoying it. The first film is a much better-paced and structured film, but Twisters, in the end, is a pretty decent companion piece.
I like this one far better than the original because I liked all the characters in this. The 1996 version basically all of the minor characters were cringe worthy.. Also Bill Paxton is a legend, but can't say I was ever much of a Helen Hunt fan...
Also, idk how yall are with horror, miss Alanda is my horror queen. But the new Superman is in the prequel Pearl, opposite Mia Goth. It’s the prequel to X, that also stars Mia Goth, who’s the sole survivor of the Texas Porn Star Massacre. The sequel MaXXXINE, also stars Mia Goth and Kevin Bacon, All are directed by Tia West and specifically shot with a time period theme. Pearl is set in 1918 and follows an old school Hollywood aesthetic. X is the 1970s slasher horror grainy and almost dirty. I mean the Mcguffin for the whole trilogy is tied with the porn massacre MaXXXine is a 1980s slasher horror campy film. Personally it’s my favorite of the 3, I highly recommend - also, yes. Glen Powells frat boy energy was having me roll my eyes throughout this whole film until the third act. When he had that damn backwards hat on, then I rolled my eyes harder because I realized I had a man crush 😂😂😂😂 Yall enjoy y’all’s Sunday!
Also … when I lived in Southern California, my friends would make fun of me when I would get drunk. My accent slips out. Born and raised in the west Texas oil fields. I learned to hide it through debate, young republicans, and college. - - but it still makes a guest appearance. ****the most annoying part of this movie is when Kate dipped out, taking Javi’s truck. I was like mama, your white privilege is showing. You clearly weren’t raised in the south because that was just RUDE.
@@erich9004 So we got two of the towns this movie was filmed in represented in this comments section. Can we get an El Reno or Newcastle native in here?
The one thing I missed from the old film was the unique personalities of the tornadoes. Some were playful, like the waterspouts tossing the cow around. Others were malevolent, actively looking for people to attack. And that last one was content to just do its own thing until the humans messed with it. In this movie, I felt like the tornadoes weren't individuals at all. They had no personality. That disappointed me a little bit in an otherwise fun movie.
Ok… I guess I’ll subscribe to the Patreon since yall are dropping twisters and Romulus …. Next thing I know yall will be dropping Civil War 2024 ….. 😂❤
Glen Powell is awesome. Didn't love the main female casting. I think because Helen Hunt set the bar so high. Still loved it almost as much as the original though.
It's a solid follow-up to the original. But man, I really wish they would have gotten Mark Mencia back to reprise that original score. Or at least had the new composer incorporate some of the old score. Even with the title and a few references/easter eggs to the original, it's hard for my brain to connect these movies at all. The music was such a big part of the original's atmosphere, no pun intended, that not having it makes this movie feel like it takes place in a completely separate universe. I realize part of the studio's goal was to not tie Twisters too much to the original, but it would've been nice to have some of the original's soundtrack back to provide a little more of a bridge from old to new. Still a good Summer blockbuster though. Definitely exceeded my expectations.
Original is unbeatable as it was groundbreaking for the time, and still holds up well to modern movies in the effects department. The people in the original were easier to create an emotional attachment to. That is probably due to energy between Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. This one was entertaining and better than expected, but if Twister was a 9 out of 10, this was a 7.5.
Yes, I prefer the first movie. However, I'll enjoy anything that Anthony Ramos plays in. I also enjoyed the music from the first movie better than the new one.
This is a fun movie to watch. However, i feel its way too, Hollywood. The first one was more authentic and grounded. Plus, the idea of disrupting a tornado is a bit much. But other than that, it is a fun movie to watch.
it might work or not work because tornados rely on a fine balance of factors. disrupt that balance and you are half way there. but with that predicting where one appears is still a problem. the way it is shown here, that one tornado follows another, that of course is some convenient movie portrayal. i liked the frankenstein in hte movie theater scene. i liked helen hunt better.
You know, in a time where Hollywood and its elite seem to despise "the Heartland" and its inhabitants for political reasons, it's refreshing to see a big budget tentpole movie embracing them so thoroughly and earnestly... Which is probably why it did so well domestically.
In case you had the feeling Kate and Tyler should kiss at the end, they actually filmed an ending where they do kiss to end the movie. But Spielberg decided to change it, and instead the ending is them running off to chase another storm
I’m just curious, is there a reason why you haven’t tackled the Star Trek series? Between the movies and tv shows there’s a lot of content there to react to.

Incredible.
The little Superman edits are killing me 😂
What is funny is after watching this I had to prepare for severe weather in Oklahoma this afternoon/evening.
LOOK OUT FLYING COW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please watch Transformers One !
7:44 lol! That was great!
Y’all should watch Eight Legged Freaks next
Its been yea4s snoce id seen you two but you gus still doing well and miss Matt
If you FEEL it, CHASE it!
Hit man was actually pretty good. Also recommend.
Aye Holden, me being a apple consumer I tend just drink out the jar like a smoothie 😂
(PS: LOVED the way Holden changed him expression for Jen's sake at 6:16)
- What do EXTREME weather influencers do when there are no tornadoes?
My only gripe with this moive was the conflict between the two groups.
Obama and guests!
hey y’all should react to the “The Town” Ben Affleck movie
Overpass are the worst in Tornados, So that's why Johnathan Kent was saying NO!!!
They already watched Saving Private Ryan
that sound design of the wind gushing below that bridge in the beginning felt insane in the cinema
You guys got to do a least a couple of the Sharknado! movies now.
You guys should also watch Greenland with Gerald Butler. I was surprised how good that movie is
Two storm chasers were chasing the same twister an one of them ran a Stop sign and T Boned the other chaser. He's on trial for his death. It was all caught on their Go Pros. This happened about two years ago. It's a dangerous hobby for a lot of people. It could be fun if done with respect for Mother Nature.
You Should make Jen Read or say ""THE COMMENT OF THE DAY!""
Also, the Superman jokes were great lol
Shrek 4? Please :)
How about watching Volcano (1997)? I highly recommend it.
7:46 iykyk ❤
Also Bill Paxton is a legend, but can't say I was ever much of a Helen Hunt fan...
dang it 16:35 caught me off guard
Also, idk how yall are with horror, miss Alanda is my horror queen.
But the new Superman is in the prequel Pearl, opposite Mia Goth. It’s the prequel to X, that also stars Mia Goth, who’s the sole survivor of the Texas Porn Star Massacre.
The sequel MaXXXINE, also stars Mia Goth and Kevin Bacon,
All are directed by Tia West and specifically shot with a time period theme. Pearl is set in 1918 and follows an old school Hollywood aesthetic.
X is the 1970s slasher horror grainy and almost dirty. I mean the Mcguffin for the whole trilogy is tied with the porn massacre
MaXXXine is a 1980s slasher horror campy film. Personally it’s my favorite of the 3,
I highly recommend - also, yes. Glen Powells frat boy energy was having me roll my eyes throughout this whole film until the third act. When he had that damn backwards hat on, then I rolled my eyes harder because I realized I had a man crush 😂😂😂😂
Yall enjoy y’all’s Sunday!
No no no new moon should’ve been the next vid and you know it sir!!!!
Being a native Okla, I can not conform nor deny that people are usually like that party scene in the beginning of the movie 😇
Chickasha native here, and I'll go ahead and confirm it for ya. 😂
@ Shawnee native (howdy neighbor).
We dont do that up in these here parts. 😂
@@erich9004 So we got two of the towns this movie was filmed in represented in this comments section. Can we get an El Reno or Newcastle native in here?
@ oh you didnt know? The third person that died, two rows back to the left. That was me…
@erich9004 Oh, really? Nice.
Are you guys planning on watching transformers one?
Superman theme... nice.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Are you guys gonna react to Transformers one 😢🙏🏻🙏🏻
Original is unbeatable as it was groundbreaking for the time, and still holds up well to modern movies in the effects department. The people in the original were easier to create an emotional attachment to. That is probably due to energy between Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. This one was entertaining and better than expected, but if Twister was a 9 out of 10, this was a 7.5.
Yes, I prefer the first movie. However, I'll enjoy anything that Anthony Ramos plays in. I also enjoyed the music from the first movie better than the new one.
I just watched this yesterday for the first time, I loved it & I actually think it’s better then the first film
Please react to Transformers One!
The 1996 one was still better. Not just because it’s the original. Mostly because it’s not just a comedy.
I agree. It was written better.
Some people put too much on this movie to surpass the first. Just judge it on it's own and it's a good, fun time with likable characters.
Its measured by size and amount of damage it will do.
Yes there are ways to unlatch barrels like that. You run a wife to the trailer and install a switch in the cab. Lol.
This is a fun movie to watch. However, i feel its way too, Hollywood. The first one was more authentic and grounded. Plus, the idea of disrupting a tornado is a bit much. But other than that, it is a fun movie to watch.
You should watch The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
it might work or not work because tornados rely on a fine balance of factors. disrupt that balance and you are half way there. but with that predicting where one appears is still a problem. the way it is shown here, that one tornado follows another, that of course is some convenient movie portrayal. i liked the frankenstein in hte movie theater scene. i liked helen hunt better.
They could have skipped the whole subplot and I wouldn’t be mad.
I’m just curious, is there a reason why you haven’t tackled the Star Trek series? Between the movies and tv shows there’s a lot of content there to react to.
Do a review on Into The Storm. It came out in2014 and star Richard Armitage.
You should react to Everest(2015)
