Spoilers for Three Hopes This is Echoed in Azure Gleam's Finale, where after Dimitri kills Thales, Edelgard in practically a broken state unable to even live normally. He does the same to Shez, knowing that Edelgard is past the point of saving. And while I do wish for Edelgard to basically be rehabilitated by (most likely) Byleth, it's also valid that Church just axes her off there, and she dies offscreen. Much like an implied war between Kingdom and Alliance directly after the end of this game.
I like to think that Edelgard throwing the dagger wasn’t desperation or some kind of grudge. Rather, it’s her way of returning what he said to her: to use his blade to cut his own path, even if his path lays over her grave. She knows she cannot stop fighting, but also knows Dimitri truly doesn’t want to kill her. With all her exhaustion she’s probably unable to speak, so she delivers her message the only way she can: the oath of the dagger.
I went though Golden Deer first. Felt no remorse when I went through with the blue lions and killed Edelgard a second time. But what broke my heart was how badly Dimitri was hurt, and seeing him feel betrayed was soul crushing. Not to mention he kills Edelgard himself and that had to hurt. Still doesn't change my opinion of Edelgard, but I understand Dimitri loved her, and I do wish things could have went differently.
@Bug At first, I seriously thought it was just another desperate attempt to fight back. Because in every battle in both the GD and BL, Edelgard gets increasingly desperate to try and win the war. But as Dimitri pulls that knife out of his shoulder, I saw it as Edelgard knew she royally messed up, and even though Dimitri wanted to forgive her, she would have suffered far worse if she were captured. In a way, it wasn't just Edelgard's surrender, it was a tragic way to finally end the war. And despite my very strong feelings that contradict a lot of people, my understanding makes me wish that Edelgard could be buried with honor.
I did the same. I went with golden dear first just killing everyone because that was what I was supposed to do having no emotions when killing Dimitri. After that I played the black eagles and still had no emotions. But when now I’m playing the Blue Lions for the second time and now I cry over how each time I killed him, I killed him without even knowing what’s he’s going through . T~T it breaks my heart.
Squilliam Fancyson sorry dude but you ate wrong. A major trait of a sociopath is someone who can’t conceive they can lose or consider their own way of doing things is wrong. It was specifically pointed out that Edelgard thinks victory for her is absolute because she is on the right side. For someone like that, it is impossible for them to accept a reality where they we’re defeated. In the mind of a sociopath, death is the same as defeat. She would rather die then accept a reality where she lost or where she was wrong. The isn’t even speculation time and again the game and Edelgard HERSELF constantly reinforces this.
The thing some people don't get about dimitri is that, when he goes back to "normal" that isn't the normal Dimitri as he said himself:"I have two faces one of a monster and this one(along the lines of that) so the flame emperor reveal isnt rhe final straw its what came after that, the betrayal of Cornelia and him getting executed, him thinking dedeu died on my opinion dimitri was the best lord, Claude was rlly good but..could have been better, and edlegard says this one time IN HER OWN ROUTE "and why do you kill an re conquer in retaliation. So dimitri never goes back to being "normal" he will still be haunted by the tragedy of duscur and stuff like dimitri never returns to "normal". (Sorry for grammar spelling mistakes etc I was typing on my phone)
You are right, he won't be normal never, but as he says in his S support with Byleth, he will not cover his ears and not ignore them, he views them as a warning that he won't be dominated by them again It makes sense that in his remaining years, he will face this, specially when in some of his endings (specially with Marianne) it's implicit that he dies by illness
Edelgard was originally meant to ask why they fight a war they will lose. But even if she said that with reconquering, she still has a complex character
The line is still pretty dumb in both languages, I mean is she expecting the kingdom to roll out a red carpet for her instead of defending their home? Dimitri is the king of faerghus, he has to protect it, sure he did diverge from his plan with the church so that he could get to Edelgard earlier but still, that’s his job description, so in that specific situation where Edelgard invades the kingdom, Dimitri is the one with the moral high ground regardlesss of how complex Edelgard’s character is A big part of her character is that she’s sacrificing her morals to achieve her goal, starting a war isn’t a morally good thing, but she’s willing to sacrifice everything to achieve her goal, she’s still this same way in CF just that she doesn’t use TWSITD’s resources as much and gets to hold onto her humanity instead of forsaking it like in every other route
0:49 The variation of "unfulfilled" that plays after Edelgard's death just sells this ending to me. Even if it's just *two or three* deaths...it still hurts. Verdant wind doesn't even do that much; just treats Dimitri's death like nothing tragic and goes on feeling like a bad Shonen series with an esoteric "golden" ending.

More than anything, I think it was the crowd cheering for Dimitri that really got to me in this scene.
The Savior King, indeed
When Dimitri said “El”
We all felt that
The look Byleth gives Dimitri when he was about to turn around........
My only thoughts about this music playing at the end was "It's okay Dimitri." "It's time to finally start living."
"Let the dead rest." Is what I whispered to Dimitri in this scene.
My idiot monkey brain response was to just bawl all over the floor like a baby
@@kajion8381 Nono that’s the average person’s response
Mine was: "Let's leave, so we can let her rest..."
Edelgard, as she throws the dagger
This is theme is just so sad and that look that Byleth gives Dimitri at the end like saying "let her go" it just broke me when I saw the cutscene :(

The pain of the dagger in his shoulder was nothing compared to the pain of killing his cherished old friend
@@joaomaia6800 it reminded me of the game A Way Out. That ending hurt, and that's exactly what I felt when Dimtri stabbed Edelgard.
And still almost 2 years later, Dimitri absolutely deserves happiness and to finally start living.
The way Unfulfilled bleeds into the mournful piano chords at the end is beautiful. A very real moment of angst, at the very end of things.
