"Welcome back, my teacher. I'm so happy that you're safe." "I should've known... that one day... you would be haunting me as well." "Even though our swords cross as they do now... There's no denying that our chosen paths never will." “You overslept, Teach! Pretty rude to keep a fella waiting like that. Wouldn't you say?”
What I love about Byleth and Dimitri's reunion during the beginning of the time-skip and the ending of the route is how light is used in both cutscenes. When Byleth approaches Dimitri, the sun is beginning to rise to allow our hero to walk into the light. Yet after offering her hand to help her former student up and into the light, Dimitri refuses to accept it, remaining in the darkness. Fast forward to the ending of the Blue Lions route and we have Dimitri walking away from Edelgard's body and into the light. Just as Dimitri turns back, Byleth convinces the King of Farghus that he could no longer remain trapped in the past/darkness and they must push towards a new future/light.
I love how Dimitri offering his hand to Edelgard at the end when she was broken. is a nod to Byleth offering his/her hand to Dimitri when he was broken.
And sadly bittersweet as well, since unlike Dimitri, Edelgard can't bring herself to accept Dimitri's offered hand (or his forgiveness). For two people who cared so much for each other (just watch Dimitri's reaction to Edelgard's "joking" suggestion that if Adrestia & Faerghus ever went to war, he may get the chance to kill her....Dimitri can't even bear the thought of it, even when the comment was supposedly made "in jest") to not even be able to reconcile at the end is what makes the relationship between Edelgard & Dimitri so tragic. No matter what you do....there's no way to save them both. If you side with Edelgard, Dimitri becomes little more than a beast fueled by rage, hatred, and vengeance, and is unable to bring himself to forgive Edelgard even in his final moments....something that brings poor Edelgard to tears to realize that as much as she would have wished otherwise....she can't save Dimitri, not even from himself....nor can Byleth. And if you side with Dimitri....then Edelgard ultimately falls under the sway of TWSITD and lets herself be turned into a monster....and yet, when it's all over and she lays defeated and Dimitri offers her his hand (and in essence, his forgiveness), she can't bring herself to accept it and instead chooses to force Dimitri's hand by forcing him to kill her.
@@gamester512 Honestly, I think both could have lived if Edelgard had not been so distrusting. I seriously think if Edelgard had just told Dimitri pre TS what TWSITD did to her and her siblings, they would need every single student to keep Dimitri from going berserk mode and charge at the Slithers. Ofc, Edelgard being so distrustful is the result of her upbringing, so that is not really something she could do at that point anyway. While I am no Edelgard fan, I really did wish both could have survived.
@@zura8879 Edelgard's distrust comes from what TWSITD did to her. The Three Houses story is beautifully written, because no one is truly evil. Except for nemesis and TWSITD, they've only had bad intentions since the beginning.
@@zura8879 old comment but i honestly don't think she would have cared to ally with Dimitri anyway; she sought total control of fodlan so that she could thoroughly eradicate crests (and do whatever else fit her idea of a meritocracy) so i think even if she had allied with dimitri, however briefly, their ideas still would have clashed and edelgard would have fought him for Faerghus anyway. Edelgard thinks she should get to set the requirements of who gets power and that (her) authority should go unquestioned, also wants to destroy the church; Dimitri wants to put power in the hands of the masses so that they aren't at the mercy of whoever inherits power by virtue of their familial ties, and has no real issue with the church (has criticisms, probably, but no vendetta like Edelgard). twsitd is honestly barely even a concern to her in her route, its conquering fodlan that she's most focused on.
@Zura I would also be very distrustful if I knew my own uncle has been replaced by an evil underground society that pulled its strings all over the continent.
@@nekoparadisus Obsessed with murder? Play his route, homie. I also feel this comment was in relation to the very end of his route, where all he wanted was peace.
I genuinely felt like i failed when i saw him post time skip,i failed him as a teacher and more Importantly as a friend but much as he has a burden i also knew it was my duty to bring him back
An important thing to feel in that moment. We'd just lost the battle of Garreg Mach. The war that followed is because we failed then. Now that we're back, we have to turn things around. We're not the only ones who feel that way, either.
Not only that, but despite how much Edelgard & Dimitri cared about each other (and you!) pre-timeskip (look at Dimitri's reaction to Edelgard "joking" about him possibly getting the chance to kill her should Adrestia and Faerghus ever go to war, Dimitri can't even stomach the thought of it), it's impossible to save them both. Side with Edelgard, and Dimitri loses himself to his inner demons....side with Dimitri and it's Edelgard who can't be saved. They loved and cared about each other so much, and yet there's no way to save both of them.
I felt a twinge of sorrow hearing Dimitri say "I should have known that one day you would be haunting me as well". And also when Edelgard said "We could have walked the same path...I wanted to walk with you-".
@@jonahj9519 Agreed. And Byleth hit her head down the middle instead of at the neck, which unless I'm mistaken is a big disrespect. And the anger on her face (and probably the male version too but I've never seen the male variation of the cutscene) shows just how much Byleth actually dislikes Edelgard in every path but her own. It's sad honestly. Edelgard finds someone other than Hubert she can trust to help her, and they end up hating her... I truly do feel bad for Edelgard.
I wonder sometimes if it’s anger at Edelgard Byleth shows or sorrow at having to kill one of his or her own students who he or she cared for at one point? That alone no doubt leaves anyone with a sense of anger at the situation. Maybe it was disgust at having to do what had to be done. But that’s the beauty of a scene like that one. Interpertation is as much up to the player as it is to the game itself... Either way, this theme hits hard.
@@Udontknowme010 I like to think it's both. He/she hates her for what she did but still cares so much that Byleth is hesitant to kill Edelgard. Kinda like how Dimitri hates her but deep down still wants her to go back to being his sister.
@@damonrichardson1999 Didn't realize Dimitri was from Alabama. Lmao jk, I just don't think Dimitri saw her that way. In my eyes he loved her back then like a kid, and at the monastery it grew into something more, only to.. well, we all know then. It would definitely hurt to see someone you see as a sibling betray you like that but honestly it just seems so more than that. Plus, notably, he never says "our mother." That's when I realized it was probably more than just a sibling love.
I know how dimitri felt, i know that rage, i remember that dispair. I'm grateful no one will truly know who I am in this post so I can speak freely. I have seen far too much death for a life time its feels like the people you love are haunting you, I wish I never became as distrusting of others as I have grown. I gotta say, after playing through the Golden Deer Route, this music hit hard. Both for Dimitri and Claude. *Spoilers maybe?* With Claude, he greets you with a pretty amusing comment, but at the same time, he sounds both sad and a bit relieved with amazement. Imagine wondering where you teacher went after these five years and finally reuniting with them after making a promise to do so. Also, Claude is the first person you meet when you return to the church. Everyone else comes back later on during the day, so you could imagine Claude’s happiness to see Byleth finally back beside him. Dimitri on the other hand is different as well. After Byleth’s disappearance, Dimitri’s kingdom fell into ruins and he was forced to isolate himself without any of his allies (friends) to help him. Alone and afraid like a true animal. So, when he meets Byleth again, he assumes that they’re a ghost from a his past, but is actually surprised to see Byleth alive.
Voltron Fanatic :3 yeah, I completely agree! But still, we can’t deny how amazing it was. Both Dimitri & Claude are the best lords of Three Houses. NOT EDELGARD!!!
Marcus Yamamoto Edelgard is a good lord as well, just misguided. Her intentions are similar to Claude’s own. Claude even mentions this, but that’s she had taken a different approach to accomplish it.
@@otakumarcus why are you putting El down when praising the two others? Edelgard is an amazing character, who just wants to do the best for Fodlán. Stop demonizing her
Unfulfilled. Yes, that was what I felt when I saw the credit roll. I wish there was an epilogue or after credit scene, but overall, Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a worthy game. And I'm still obsessed with it.
I'm currently doing a maddening classic run with only Edelgard and Byleth, feels right. So far we kicked little Black Knight Jr's ass on the first encounter.
@Daniel Paul Who you choose, you will help guide so they won't become a former of themselves, so they won't lose sight of the path they have chosen for themselves. Well, except for Claude because Claude will always be Claude no matter what. If you weren't there for El, she gets manipulated by her uncle and turns into a monster but I could be wrong since I only play the Black Eagle route. If I were to play the other routes, I would have to hurt El and I didn't want that at all. Shit, now I'm crying because of the song and the thought of hurting El is just too much.
Yes! I think it could’ve ended with one last session of exploring. All your units say goodbye or thank you or whatever, then maybe you could walk to the Goddess Tower and that’s how you trigger the S-Support, depending on who you chose.
Crimson Flower and Verdant Wind (Verdant Wind especially) had this sense of relief, like everything was going to be okay. Silver Snow felt regrettable but also necessary. Azure Moon, on the other hand, was just straight up devastating, seeing how broken Dimitri was.
Possible spoilers!!! after the reunion cutscene with dimitri, after the ending of blue lions, after the way eldegard killed dimitri... the one scene where this music sealed the deal in breaking my heart is the scene where dimitri dies peacefully in dedue's arms.... seriously man.... I cried to a black screen with text and voice acting! this music will always be tear inducing
I got that scene too! When you kill Dedue before he can transform it triggers that scene instead of a scene where Edelgard executes Dimitri, sadly the Dedue scene isn't in the event section in the extras menu, the game just assumes your game had the Edelgard and dimitri scene
@@canadianbacon3846 I knew beforehand of Dedue transformation when playing it, because being the impatient dip I am watched gameplays before get the game (sold out physical copy on near stores, I want to touch it) and still let him. Because the story deserves it, man.
I have done 6 playthroughs and I am about to do another round of BL... the last time I did BL I got the scene where Dimitri did not die in peace. Im actually not one to care lol. But this game has changed that. I actually felt really bad when Dimitri died. Such a well written character, struggled but nothing came of it. How do I get the ending of Dimitri dying a (semi) decent death?
@@hewlettepackkard7316 So you have to kill Dedue before he transforms, I forget how many turns it takes but I sniped him with Bernie I think, I can't think of another way I could have done it
Canadianbacon 384 Dorothea’s meteor also does a decent job at damaging him. I always tried to kill Dedue before he transformed because that way the map was easier (as a monster he could OHKO almost all my units), but it never worked and I had to kill him as a monster anyway, but now I’m even more sad I never got that scene’
@@Crownslayer115 That line was so expertly delivered. For all her iron will and determination, there is still a human heart beating with remorse and regret that there was no other solution than to kill Dimitri.
Caffeinated Chamomile Always. What’s ironic is in Crimson Flower’s ending Byleth’s heart moves~ Plus Edelgard’s color red is symbolic to a heart and the color of a heart sis. ❤️🦅
@@caffeinatedchamomile She always had a heart, and even when they were fighting each other to the death, she cared about Dimitri a great deal. It broke her heart in Crimson Flower when she's forced to kill him, to the point that Byleth pretty much catches her crying over Dimitri's death even though Edelgard tries to hide and deny it. Dimitri and Edelgard were basically siblings and cared for each other a great deal as a result. And just look at the pre-timeskip line from Edelgard where she "jokes" to Dimitri about how one day he may get the chance to fight her to the death should the Empire and Kingdom ever go to war, Dimitri can't even stomach the thought of having to fight or kill her. Keep in mind, Edelgard went through utter hell when she was younger (out of all of her siblings [IIRC, Edelgard had 11 total siblings], of whom she was the third youngest, *she is the only one still alive* and she had to *watch* each and every one of them *die* before her very eyes while she could do *nothing* to save *any* of them....something like that would break any normal person), and this has caused her to become more bitter as she grew older, though she still has a very kind and compassionate heart. In Crimson Flower she regularly gives civilians a chance to flee and offers the enemy a chance to surrender and avoid unnecessary casualties. She even does so when you finally confront *RHEA* herself on the final map, even when you know by this point that Rhea has gone *completely insane* to the point of her being beyond reason.
@Mystic Iris She believes Rhea is corrupt and due to her position at Garreg Mach and the amount of influence the Church has over Fodlan, war is the only way she can do something about it. She also hates TWSITD and only cooperates with them out of pure necessity (in the Crimson Flower ending it's even stated that once the war is over, the Empire turns it's attention to TWSITD and wipes them out), plus if she were to ever turn on them, they'd just kill her and her uncle (the guy who was basically the one directly working with TWSITD and the one calling the shots) would have then become Emperor since then there would have been no living heirs since Edelgard was the only surviving heir of 12 children, IIRC, and she was the third youngest. Put simply, Edelgard couldn't afford to take the risk that TWSITD would just kill her and thus put her very corrupt and self-serving uncle on the Throne in her place, and during the war she couldn't just turn on TWSITD since doing that would first have split the Empire in half, and then it would also have put Edelgard into a war on 4 fronts against the Alliance, the Kingdom, the Church of Seiros, & TWSITD....and any good leader knows that a multi-front war is something to be avoided at all costs since it will quickly spread your forces very thin while simply trying to hold onto your own territory, let alone conquer other territory. Edelgard believes that the only way to remove Rhea from power and actually allow Fodlan to be *free* (remember, Rhea is extremely isolationist when it comes to interacting with anyone from outside of Fodlan, Cyril is one of the very few exceptions to this. It isn't even allowed for people to travel into Fodlan if you were not born there, or out of Fodlan if you were....doesn't mean it never happened, but the Church wouldn't look upon you too favorably if they caught you doing so). And don't forget that Rhea *isn't even human* and Edelgard *knows* this. In Edelgard's eyes, the only ones who should ever be leading humanity are *humans* themselves, not some massive dragon or "monster".
I first chose golden deer because claude seemed more interesting but then playing blue lions I fell in love with Dimitri. Like seriously why do i love this man so much lol
Despite the strength of a Demi god, he’s a very human character. He holds to his hatred and pain, and refuses to accept the past. But through the Blue Lion’s path, we see him regain his humanity and compassion. He’s well written.
"Farewell, King of Delusion" Damn, it left my heart in pieces... I'm playing BL for the first time (BE was my first route) and the reunion scene almost made me cry, the state in which Byleth meets Dimitri is one of the saddest things I've seen in this game.
But in the Church route (going against Edelgard) you actually talk to him, this was after what happened at Gronder field but the game doesn’t clarify if it was real or not and leaves it to the player to decide.
@@Rach-du6ne It's clearly shown like Byleth saw Dimitri's ghost. It's even scarier, knowing that there's a possibility Dimitri survived Gronder but killed himself due to watching everyone else die. Again.

"I'm just...anxious. It feels like the weight of this burden is crushing me. At this very moment, on my orders, I'm starting a war. An army far larger than the one that attacked the Holy Tomb last month will soon be locked in battle. Long-devised strategies are unfolding across Fódlan. Leaders are deciding their loyalties and preparing to fight... So many generals and soldiers will die. It's inevitable that civilians will get caught up in the chaos as well. There will be countless casualties. With a single command, the flames of war will rage across all corners of this realm. And I am the one who is giving the order."
@@EiSaeko "bad" is the wrong word I think. It's a difficult decision for sure, but ultimately proves to be a necessary one no matter the route taken. Fodlan's war is pretty much the definition of a necessary evil. Many suffer for it, but many more are spared greater suffering in the long term because of it.
It's like when people talk about the Civil War, and the countless dead, the incredible tragedy of the conflict. Brother versus brother, ripping a nation apart at the foundation. And yet, it was the only way to uproot America's original sin, the one that was buried deep within those very foundations; human slavery. To wait any longer. as some have said before and after the conflict, would have been to consign more millions to living hell.
@@DevilHunter1994 Yeahhhh... I have to disagree with that tbh. Edelgard, Dimitri, Claude, the rest of the students, they're all incredible individuals with their own hopes and dreams of a better future not a single one of them wishes death and destruction upon the realm. Had they graduated in peace, worked together, hand in hand for a brighter and better future for all, they could've done so much more than any of the endings! Each path focuses on a certain aspect of their lords, but if the war never happened and they all sorted their respective issues (Dimitri with bringing justice to Duscur, and finding peace of mind with the help of his loved ones, Claude with opening Fodlan to the world, and encouraging his counterparts to do so as well, and Edelgard with eliminating rot and corruption in her empire), they could've created such a beautiful Fodlan.
@@thisrandomdude2880 The problem is Rhea who had a very specific vision in mind for what Fodlan's future would be. She wanted a Fodlan ruled by a revived Sothis and would have certainly stepped in if she felt any of the three lords were enacting reforms that compromised that future. The shadow library in the new DLC already confirmed that she haulted the development of new technologies and labeled their use as taboo because they threatened the power of the church and the social order that she put in place to make sure the people of Fodlan remained loyal to the goddess and the church's teachings. Rhea had to be removed from power before real reforms could be made and since Rhea originally only intended to step down once Byleth had fully become Sothis, the only way to remove her from power was by force.

When you look at song titles and implications (like I, the total music nerd, did) this music really hits hard. When you look at this compared to the happier tone of the song "A Promise" it really dawns on you that the promise you made to come back to the Monastery really could've been Unfulfilled if things had just gone a small bit differently. It truly showcases the tragedy and irony of it all extremely well, in all scenes this track is played in.
"Even though I had no proof, I always knew you were alive. Five years, but it seems like a eternity ago. Welcome back my teacher, I'm so glad you're safe."
This was my first FE game. Nothing could have prepared me for the kind of story and character moments I was in for. I’ll never forget the cutscene of Byleth going up the stairs to see Dimitri in the shadows all I could say was “Dimitri… what happened to you…”
Dedue: Your Majesty... Your Majesty! Dimitri: Stop calling me that. Dedue: Ah, thank the... No... Dimitri: Dedue... It seems I will die...before I can get revenge for everyone... Dedue: ... Dimitri: My family, my friends, my home... Everything that truly mattered to me... I couldn't... Dedue: You're wrong! Because of you, I was able to live on until today. You saved me. These past nine years... I am proud to have been at your side. It was a joy I never could have hoped for. Despite all, I count myself a lucky man. Dimitri: Is that so? I see... I am glad... Dedue: You must be weary, Your Majesty. Please...rest in peace.
Some of the others have been mentioned but there is a big light and dark theme in each version of the scene In Dimitri's, it's Byleth pulling him out of the dark and into the light symbolizing he can finally start to move past the tragedy of dusur In Claude's: He's the one that's in the light, and he's inviting Byleth into it from the dark which Byleth accepts. This symbolizes Claude's intent to find out the truth behind the church and the ancients no matter what. He's essentially removing the blinders to the world that Byleth represents Edelguard has two: In CF She's the one in the dark just like Dimitri, but instead of moving into Byleth's light she pulls him into a hug in the darkness but the light is filtering through the window. A nice middle ground that represents though her methods may be underhanded and warmongering, Edelguard and by extension Byleth truly believe what they are doing will eventually bring light to fodlan In SS Byleth and Edelguard have a brief clash which leads to Byleth staying in the light while Edelguard retreats into the shadows. Hammering home the point Edelguard truly believes her path of darkness will lead to the betterment of fodlan, and Byleth stands in a false light of the church evidenced by the fact it isn't as bright as the other cutscenes. Almost like Rudolf in Echos in a way
Everytime I hear this music or the short version(which is even more heartbreaking) I just think of the reunion between Byleth and Dimitri with saying "I should have known...that one day, you would be haunting as well" as the sun finally shines on him with Byleth's hand outstretched towards him
"Even though our swords may cross as they do now... there's no denying our chosen paths never will. Goodbye, my teacher. When next we meet, one of us will breath their last."
I may not have chosen Blue Lions as my first playthrough, but I don’t regret choosing them as my second. my boy Dimitri had so much taken from him. His friends, family, even his humanity. I haven’t beaten it yet with BL but it’s gonna feel so sweet it help the true king get back on his feet. (Golden Deer being my first, Blue Lions right after)
NineS that’s a very philosophical question it really depends on what type of person you are as for me, I think an answer without violence or a compromise would be the best course of action
Nicholas Jones i agree with you, I don’t believe a war was needed if the ambition to change the world for the better was there. Starting the war caused more disturbance than what was needed to fix Fódlan’s inequality problem, the crests were stolen from godlike figures and granted the thieves the power of said godlike figures, essentially the government they were living in all along was a meritocracy based on physical strength anyway. If edelgard had chosen to speak with her peers about her ambition to create a more fair and just world for the commoners of Fódlan and the problems she sees at present in the pre time skip part of the game, both Dimitri and Claude would have listened since it’s common knowledge that they all want to have a peaceful world for all people regardless of background and faith. It’s brought up in a support conversation or before a chapter battle in some dialogue in blue lions and I don’t remember whose it was but it’s but their theory on why the Garreg Mach Monastery had so many people from the different nations of Fódlan. Basically what was inferred was it is meant to create understanding and to help prevent wars in the future due to the bonds they created as students preparing to lead their countries, but edelgard refused to (more like COULDNT cuz the empire at the beginning was extremely corrupt but even if she did manage to talk to someone, there would be no story worth playing) make these bonds with anyone who didn’t share her exact ideology or didn’t kiss the ground she walked on like that boot licker Hubert, sorry Hubert fans that was rude, I extend this apology to all 6 of you. Anyway tldr war bad you don’t save lives by ending them but within the game’s cannon the war is a necessary evil used to lead the world to peace in one form or another
Listen Blue Lions will always be the route my heart says go down. As much as I like Edelgards philosophy of rewarding people on ability rather than status, I can’t get behind her betrayal and violence. Claude I love you too bud but I’m afraid Dimitris arc and backstory touch me more as his hurt after killing the woman he wanted to kill for so long is hard to watch and Ashe will always be my husbando in every route I’m afraid. Blue Lions will always hold a special place in my heart
@@azatheeverchosen7615 Oh, we have evidence, lots of it, in fact, but the haters are so stubborn and idiotic that they try to hand wave all of it, and demonize her, so why should we bother? House Hresvelg was rendered politically impotent by the insurrection of the seven (Hubert’s B-support / Library’s register of Imperial Nobles), most of the imperial nobility wanted to unify Fodlan under the empire (Ferdinand monastery dialogue), & TWSITD conducted the experiments to create a disposable pawn (Thales, chapter 10). Edelgard had to make background deals with certain Imperial nobles (Bergliez, Hevring, & Gerth) to convince them to join her side (Caspar says that he noticed Edelgard speaking with his father after the mock battle at Gronder), part of the deal was that she would reunite Fodlan under the banner of the empire, which is why she was experimented on to begin with (Edelgard’s C+ support). If she went back on the deal, then she’d lose all of that power once again. Thus, her only option to enact the reform she desired was the path of war. I know Claude kinda comes off as irreverent at times, but… the reunion just warms my heart. Byleth’s last memories are of their whole world being torn to shreds, and of them breaking a promise to Rhea to try and save her, only for both of them to fall in battle. They had nothing left as they climbed that tower but a vain hope that maybe someone survived. And to their surprise, they find Claude had been waiting for them. The famously paranoid kid they trained all those years ago, was so sure of his teacher, that even with them having been missing for five years, he REFUSED to believe they were gone. And so, Claude extends his hand, the sun illuminating him from behind. this time, it’s his turn to help THEM.
Byleth & Dmitri's Reunion at the start of the time-skip is forever etched in my mind. This theme is & the scene together is just absolutely heart-wrenching.
I absolutely adored Edelgard’s true path but it was incredibly devastating to do as a first play through (I did her true route entirely by mistake). Due to low levels at the time I was unable to save everyone like I would have wanted to and it hurt ALOT. Which is how I feel this game is meant to be played. It shows the true cost of war and the sad truth that not everyone is able to be saved..

Byleth: I was sleeping Edelgard: Joking? At a time like this? You realize it's been five years since you disappeared! Do you have any idea how guilty I felt? How broken my heart was?! I searched high and low after you vanished. Although there was no proof, I somehow knew you were alive. All this time, I led everyone as best I could and fought with all your heart. It's been a difficult path to walk alone. Welcome back, my teacher. I'm so happy that you're safe.
This fucking scene I love it so much like you have the music and the lack of words being said at the way they do that dramatic but with Edelgard removing the knife and cutting away and then pulling Dimitri away from looking back at Edelgard and pulling him into the light so good job IS for the stellar story of Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd it was amazing start to end
Edelgard: Huh?! It's--It's you! What are you doing here? Byleth: I came here for you. Edelgard: For me? Highly doubtful. So you were alive.. What have you been doing all this time? Byleth: I was sleeping. Edelgard: Joking at a time like this.. Well, if you don't wish to tell me, I won't try to persuade you. All that matters is this.. Will you return to the Empire with me? Byleth: I... Edelgard: Hesitation. It betrays your true answer...
that hit hard :( the dialogues in the game are so potent, well thought out and emotional. FE3H's dialogue is probably the most dynamic and emotional among all FE games tbh for me.
Saddest part is that Edelgard has C PTSD...which explains her attitude towards Dimitri (and her death at his hand) and why she didn't understood Byleth's decision to side with her (and Byleth peacefully smiled when going the CF route...how interesting). She feels like Lucina/Azura since due to trauma/abuse they became more stoic/secretive/with trust issues/refusing to open themselves up. She's so selfless she'd gladly throw her life away if it helps achieve her goal because she has *nothing left to live for* and &no place where she belongs.* Which explains why she forced a now kind and regretful Dimitri to kill her. She realized there are worse things than death and being thrown inside a dungeon and relive the same trauma her mind suppressed again would be the worst case scenario for her. Not to mention Rhea torturing and executing her in that situation. She also threw the dagger to make him a cut a path to his own future and stop the war from continuing (which it would have continued if she lived). But the worst part is when she gets a flashback of young Dimitri just when she's about to mercy kill a gravely wounded Dimitri in CF. In Japanese is even more painful, petty and heartlessly spiteful since Dimitri just says "Drop to hell, El!". After remembering him in the most painful way possible, she cries but puts her mask back. Honestly both her and Dimitri are a tragic deconstruction of Alm and Celica respectively.
@@v.emiltheii-nd.8094 I agree but I think the comparison works better with Sacred Stones. Edel is strikingly similar to Leon in my eyes. Childhood friends, Emper-or/ess, Machiavellian ambitions. Dimitri and Ephraim; Lance bearer, gallant, heroic, a bit dark / edgy boi. Eirika and Claude; good guy route, classic save the world storyline, maybe-the-evil-baddie-is-being-manipulated route.
@@v.emiltheii-nd.8094 You should! It has some similar themes to 3H and has some of the best franchise support conversations. It's super easy though but entirely enjoyable.
It was so painful to see dimitri like that I my first run through, I usually do not fall in love with characters for obvious reasons but Dimitri was different, he felt so real! And that made me feel so attached to this character that was so broken, maybe it's because of how my mindset was when I played fe3h? Who knows? But man was on the verge of tears seeing him in the rain too begging for the voices to stop, begging for an answer, a solution to stop the people he loved clawing at his feet for revenge. Sometimes you really do just need a character to help you out on your journey in real life, man did this route make me feel better after months of just me being not doing so good. Such a good route, even better characters.
That's the turning point and, imo and many others, what marks hims as a memorable and beloved character, the arc he goes through and how he managed to leave the dark place he was.
I think this would have been a great support theme, the Ashen Wolves really shook up the music themes in their supports and I think that more music like this should be used in supports, especially on those sad and dark ones that aren’t about opening up and more about remembering a time in where you couldn’t do anything (Jeritza and Mercedes’ B support, Constance and Ferdinand C support, etc.)
not really, the developers probably just didnt want to force the player to face Shambala without Divine Pulse! since you know, Sothis abandons you for murdering the last of her children.
@Koria Borein yet it clearly did NOT here! Otherwise EVERYONES Crest would vanish meaning Edelgard's lifespan issue wouldn't be a problem anymore... instead both of hers are still clearly functional as ALL her endings emphasize how she dies young. Oops! Wrong comment! My point is new players would gripe about the final level not having all your previous tools available and complain about constant wipeouts!
@@ailoriarayne5086 sure, however that makes no sense! Especially when you notice the dialogue is identical to the other routes! It just reeks of poorly thought out implementation!
@@sebastianaguilar9938 It's not exactly the same - Besides, as Sothis says, your souls are literally linked together as one, regardless of the stone in your chest. And if you'll recall, she also granted you the power to use the divine pulse *before* she fused with you and Byleth has canonically used it before fusing (Jeralt's death), so it's not like Byleth wouldn't have had that power anyway. To be honest, I do think CF was rushed, but I think it's for the same reason as Persona 5: They simply ran out of time and didn't want to crunch to finish everything they had initially planned.

"It can't be! Professor?! Is it really you? But I searched everywhere and never found a trace! My teacher, what have you been doing all this time? Where have you been? How broken my heart was? I searched high and low after you vanished! Although there was no proof, I somehow knew you were alive. All this time, I led everyone as best I could, and fought with all my heart. It's been a difficult path to walk alone." (Cue CG image of Edelgard hugging Byleth)
Pop Khorne At least Edelgard isn't mean to Byleth or her classmates in her route, which is what Dimitri is until Rodrigue dies and Byleth convinces Dimitri to keep living.
Out of all the reunions, this one...this low-budget one made me feel for El the most. Poor girl needs a hug after the trauma and the C PTSD she went through. With Dimitri I was like "Hey buddy?
Great comment
Wow, that is a wise comment. I love it, it shows a lot, I never really thought about it. XD
This is exactly why I enjoyed Dimitri in Azure Moon so much
Byleth was like, " no, dont look back. No regrets, just look forward and march on"
That is good storytelling.

Bruh stop it... I legit felt the same and was sad
I played and love all 4 routes, but Blue Lion for me is the most emotional and has the best character development!
I felt a twinge of sorrow hearing Dimitri say "I should have known that one day you would be haunting me as well". And also when Edelgard said "We could have walked the same path...I wanted to walk with you-".
The fact that Byleth just cuts Edelgard short in that cutscene is the saddest part.
@@jonahj9519
Agreed.

I gotta say, after playing through the Golden Deer Route, this music hit hard. Both for Dimitri and Claude.
*Spoilers maybe?*
With Claude, he greets you with a pretty amusing comment, but at the same time, he sounds both sad and a bit relieved with amazement.

When did Edelgard ever have a heart though
Caffeinated Chamomile Ah, the delicious ignorance of AM routers.
And since when did she "help" TWSITD? She literally *kills* them in the ending.

Leaders are deciding their loyalties and preparing to fight... So many generals and soldiers will die. It's inevitable that civilians will get caught up in the chaos as well. There will be countless casualties. With a single command, the flames of war will rage across all corners of this realm. And I am the one who is giving the order."
See edelgard still knows she's making a bad decision yet continues to go through with it
@@EiSaeko "bad" is the wrong word I think.

Dimitri: Dedue¡ Why . . . How are you here? you died. Five years ago. Dedue: I was saved by my brothers, Men of Duscur.
I love the Golden Deer, they were my first route but...the Blue Lions were so damn good man
This was my first FE game. Nothing could have prepared me for the kind of story and character moments I was in for. I’ll never forget the cutscene of Byleth going up the stairs to see Dimitri in the shadows all I could say was “Dimitri… what happened to you…”
When your one friend that was last online 2 years ago is back online
"What must I do to be rid of you?"
Moments that solidified Dimileth as my OTP of this game (enough to replay BL as FByleth to go get his S-Rank).
Some of the others have been mentioned but there is a big light and dark theme in each version of the scene
In Dimitri's, it's Byleth pulling him out of the dark and into the light symbolizing he can finally start to move past the tragedy of dusur
In Claude's: He's the one that's in the light, and he's inviting Byleth into it from the dark which Byleth accepts. This symbolizes Claude's intent to find out the truth behind the church and the ancients no matter what. He's essentially removing the blinders to the world that Byleth represents
Edelguard has two: In CF She's the one in the dark just like Dimitri, but instead of moving into Byleth's light she pulls him into a hug in the darkness but the light is filtering through the window. A nice middle ground that represents though her methods may be underhanded and warmongering, Edelguard and by extension Byleth truly believe what they are doing will eventually bring light to fodlan
In SS Byleth and Edelguard have a brief clash which leads to Byleth staying in the light while Edelguard retreats into the shadows. Hammering home the point Edelguard truly believes her path of darkness will lead to the betterment of fodlan, and Byleth stands in a false light of the church evidenced by the fact it isn't as bright as the other cutscenes. Almost like Rudolf in Echos in a way
Everytime I hear this music or the short version(which is even more heartbreaking) I just think of the reunion between Byleth and Dimitri with saying "I should have known...that one day, you would be haunting as well" as the sun finally shines on him with Byleth's hand outstretched towards him
Edelgard was a true queen, and an amazing character. I played Crimson Flower on my first play-through and never regretted it. 👑
This OST is the one OST that never fails to make you cry and really makes think about what you actually think of three houses as a story.
"Even though our swords may cross as they do now... there's no denying our chosen paths never will. Goodbye, my teacher. When next we meet, one of us will breath their last."
Byleth so smol n cute
and Dimitri is so tol n handsome, I love them together as a couple!

(Golden Deer being my first, Blue Lions right after)
"Have you come here to kill me?"
"Of course not..."
altho i do agree with Edelgard at some degree, starting a war of that scale was not the right answer to the problem.
What was the right answer? Genuinely curious.
Anyway tldr war bad you don’t save lives by ending them but within the game’s cannon the war is a necessary evil used to lead the world to peace in one form or another
Oh god for real I’m actually sorry for writing an entire essay

Listen Blue Lions will always be the route my heart says go down. As much as I like Edelgards philosophy of rewarding people on ability rather than status, I can’t get behind her betrayal and violence. Claude I love you too bud but I’m afraid Dimitris arc and backstory touch me more as his hurt after killing the woman he wanted to kill for so long is hard to watch and Ashe will always be my husbando in every route I’m afraid. Blue Lions will always hold a special place in my heart
Same. Not matter how noble your goals may be, you are never justified to use evil tactics to achieve them. That is why I cannot side with Edelgard.

You think she had a choice in the matter? If so, then you have failed at exploring the lore.
@@maxrichards3881 And what makes YOU such an expert, huh? Edelgard fans don't have EVIDENCE, they have OPINIONS and EMOTIONS. There's ALWAYS a choice.
@@azatheeverchosen7615
Oh, we have evidence, lots of it, in fact, but the haters are so stubborn and idiotic that they try to hand wave all of it, and demonize her, so why should we bother?
If you believe that in this situation, there was always a choice, then you’re hopelessly naive.
@@maxrichards3881 Good lord I hope you are never in a position of power over people's lives. Those poor people, their lives don't matter only the goal. Always the goal, the innumerable lives ruined in the process they don't matter. After all, if you're doing it for their sake then it's all good right? 'The ends justify the means' a.k.a. the first words of every baby tyrant EVER. Who's naive again?

Honestly blue lions is my favourite route and has my favourite characters. I’d be lying if I say I didn’t cry when playing this route
“Your path... lies across my grave.”
Byleth & Dmitri's Reunion at the start of the time-skip is forever etched in my mind. This theme is & the scene together is just absolutely heart-wrenching.
Did I cried at the end of Dimitri's path ? Nooooooo
Do you have a tissue please ....?
I didn't cry at the end of Azure Moon. I sobbed
"What must I do to be rid of you..."
Me, openly sobbing: *my sweet boy ;--;*
I absolutely adored Edelgard’s true path but it was incredibly devastating to do as a first play through (I did her true route entirely by mistake). Due to low levels at the time I was unable to save everyone like I would have wanted to and it hurt ALOT. Which is how I feel this game is meant to be played. It shows the true cost of war and the sad truth that not everyone is able to be saved..
When I first heard this song in the gameplay, I was like "DIMITRII!!!!(chose blue lion path) This feels soo unfulfilled!!!" Gladly to my surprised this song was actually call Unfulfilled, Im still stock till this day. This song is a masterpiece !!! It lives up to it's name!!!
When I see El during reunion, I hug her as hard as I can. ;(
When I see Dimitri during reunion, I feel pretty bad for him and give him my hand even if he refuses.
When I see Claude during reunion, I see MAH DANK BOI....WADDUP.

The reunion with Dmitri was phenomenal and very dramatic. You really can't help but pity and feel for him as his mentor.
Has anyone acknowledged the sheer strength of dimitry? In countless ocations many people refer to him as strong, but none other than one character who i forgot their name, who say he could EASILY lift a damn horse?
And in in-game buffs too, the main stat that dimitri develops is, you guessed it strength.

that hit hard :( the dialogues in the game are so potent, well thought out and emotional.
She's so selfless she'd gladly throw her life away if it helps achieve her goal because she has *nothing left to live for* and &no place where she belongs.*
Which explains why she forced a now kind and regretful Dimitri to kill her.
@Aidan Monner Actually, funny enough, Edelgard is the more "violent Alm" while Dimitri is the Celica.

I love this song so much, it can be used as either a happy ish song, with like reunions, but also sad, with regret
Blue lions is the best route and dimitri is best boi 😭
This song goes out to all of my fellow smash players who raged about Byleth being in Smash...
Sucks to suck lol
And I’m glad he finally gets the happy ending he deserves in Azure Moon.
Azure Moon its....an ending not a happy ending, Dimitri's face show that.
Most unfulfilled is when crimson flower route is the most rushed route of em all.
not really, the developers probably just didnt want to force the player to face Shambala without Divine Pulse! since you know, Sothis abandons you for murdering the last of her children.
@@sebastianaguilar9938 You can still marry Sothis in Crimson Flower route though ...sooo..
