Very interesting Elena, thank you -- I share your view: when visiting a new city, I don't hesitate to go to any part, especially when it is interesting for historical reasons -- and there is something mystical about objects that have survived for thousands of years -- they connect us to our past -- it looks like you had a very clean, comfortable compartment for the trip home, that's always welcome
Glad you liked the video 🙂 Yes, it's always nice to explore different neighborhoods if there's time. The compartment looked nice indeed even though it was an older train.
Hi Elena. I would love to see that wooden statue. It's amazing that something that old survives. Love the shot of the church and the KFC together. Old and new.😊 Why did they stop using the water tower?
Hi Kevin! I've noticed KFC logos were everywhere in the city! Now it's gonna be Rostics though 🙈 The Internet says "With the development of the city's water network in the 1960s, the tower was decommissioned".
Quite an adventure. Enjoyed your perspective. Definitely would not wander about after dark... But then many areas here in New York City I would not in daylight. " City life" !

I think you are lucky in that the early phases of the industrial revolution bypassed Russia, such that child and women labour down coal mines was largely over along with horrendous mills etc. To fully appreciate how the workers lived you would have to visit the earliest examples. They were unimaginable hells. By 1840 some of these practices were halted in the U.K. It took until the 1950s for a reasonable degree of care to begin to emerge for the prols. A week holiday paid per year plus 3 public holidays, and where I lived Christmas wasn't one of them.
Encountering gopniks with a camera can be quite "adventurous". They can start asking strange questions. If you own more than one camera and so on. They are often very moral people who think life is particularly bad for them and they can rob you. So avoid meeting them in the wrong place at the wrong time. I remember taking photos of Ring-necked Parakeets on a summer night in a Düsseldorf city park with a large light stand and a tripod. Suddenly a drunk gopnik became very interested in my photo equipment and began to remove a flash from the light stand. It took some diplomatic effort to reassure him that he doesn't want to take the flash.
