Just wanted to pop by and say thank you for all your hard work, I appreciate everything you do, I generally get overwhelmed when I go in to charity shops and listening to all your advice and knowledge has given me a great place to start - thank you 🤗
Unbelievably bad from that manager, after asking why you were filming, all he had to do was ask you politely not to, no need at all to ask you to leave! Hilarious when he even put his hand on the rail to stop you flicking through any more clothing! I assume when you went in the store he asked if you were ok being on CCTV?!!
@@theluxurypickersI'd have bitten that manager's hand out of frustration if he put his hand on the rail to stop me from flicking through anymore clothing to force him to take his hand off the rail! lol😂

Since I have started watching you guys, I’ve started making sure I shop in charity shops first before buying anything new..I enjoy watching you every night to help me get to sleep and I’m sorry you had this interaction :(
"I'm going to have to ask you" - - it's the wrong tone from the start, very argumentative. Why not say, excuse me can I ask why you're filming, and then just ask politely if you can stop. Nobody would have an issue with that. Worst charity shop experience I've had was as soon as I walked into a shop a lady accused me of stealing her purse, she was shouting and at me. I literally had just stepped through the door. She tried to go through my pockets, I stopped her. Then someone that worked there came over and said it had been dropped by the till which was at the other end of the shop. The lady didn't even apologize. Anyway all the old ladies that worked there surrounded me putting their arms round me asking if I was OK etc, I properly milked it, said I was rather shaken up haha. They even brought out the tin of biscuits from out the back 😂
I agree 100% I used to be that sucker who spent close to a quarter million on clothes for a family of 4 over a 30 year period not anymore lol thumbs up
You wasn’t told to leave you were asked to stop filming or leave, you stopped filming then you could carry on shopping. Why on earth would you keep saying which shop it is? Why not just ask permission when you enter the shop? It’s so simple to avoid problems like this.
It was a uncomfortable situation which could have been easily resolved with a more suitable tone. We understand what we do isn’t for everyone, we have filmed in 100’s of stores over the last 10 months. And this is the first time anyone has ever said anything. We work hard to promote charity shop shopping and using them as tool to make some extra money on the side. The conversation continued after we stopped filming at request and the issue was a personal problem and not that of the store or charity as we mentioned multiple times. We show you a look at everyday life and sourcing of full time niche resellers and so we wanted to show the other side of the coin. Thank you for watching
It's apparently common for people to film in shops to provide a catalogue to "steal to order", so some shops don't like it because of that. Section 33 of the criminal justice act defines a public place as "any highway and any other premises or place to which at the material time the public have or are permitted to have access, whether on payment or otherwise". Therefore a shop would be considered a public place as it is publicly accessible. Photography in a public place is not illegal, and nobody has a reasonable expectation of privacy in public. It's very likely the charity shop itself has CCTV and laws governing GDPR cover that footage as it's taken for the purposes of the business. You can't lawfully be asked to stop filming or to delete footage. As shops tend to be private property they can ask you to leave, at which point if you refuse to leave it becomes trespass.
Woah, someone was a jobsworth! To be fair, I don;t film and I’ve had hostility from staff members on occasion. One guys went through everything I bought, assessed it’s value, told me he didn’t want to see any of it on eBay. I was quite taken a back. I decided to just ignore him. Next time I went in, I saw and heated him abusing two other customers - which from what he said I suspect was racially motivated. But really, I think this was just one person, didn’t reflect the charity or staff…just made me verry wary going going in again!
I particularly admired how he had to bring his female coworker along to back him up! You should go back in there with loaded bhf and Sue Ryder bags like Julia Roberts in pretty woman. Big mistake. BIG mistake! Film it!

Well done Austin for telling the manager the truth about why you were filming. So many people lie about reselling as though it’s something to be ashamed of. Very poorly handled by the manager, so passive aggressive.
He handled that completely in the wrong way. He only had to politely ask you to stop filming in the shop as it made him feel uncomfortable. Anyone who speaks to customers in that way has no business being a manager of any kind as he obviously has no people skills whatsoever. So Mind say it is down to the manager, yet he said head office asked you to stop ( if I got the gist right ) so in that case he lies as well. Great video.
I would say the gent may be over-reacting, and you should suggest to his superiors that he works on his communication skills- not really suitable management material for a charity promoting positive mental health IMHO......I dont resell yet but you are an inspiration- as a nurse I really could use supplementing my paltry pay xx
Next time I'm in Taunton I'll be sure not to pop into that Mind! I don't have much luck in their branches anyway, which is a shame as it's a fantastic charity. But I'm going to have my wits about me if I'm suddenly approached by staff in the future!
The guy was a grade A prick,no need for him to be rude and as for asking you to leave , ridiculous, when he put his hand on the hangers to stop you flicking he shown his character.
Filming is fine to me ( shop manager) but anytime you get a staff members face on camera that's when I see the problem. Some people who work in these shops are venerable people trying to help themselves to a more normal life. Being filmed could really affect them. You should try to not get peoples faces in videos. There was no need for him to kick you out, he could have just asked you to stop but there is a chance a volunteer has asked for him to intervene for personal reasons.
One word "Tosser*. He was on a power trip and obviously has no brain cells worth getting into conversation. On another note. The videos are great and informative whether you buy or not, because its equally as informative to know what stuff you dismiss. Saves me having my fingers burnt on items I should just leave there. Thank you guys, you're brill 👍
All I keep thinking is I really hope you pointed that store manager in the direction of your RUclips channel and that he has since viewed this, and some of your other videos, and hopefully now seen what a first class plonker he was!!! If you’re reading this store manager - you’re a plonker! Plonker Rodders (see what I did there?? 😉😉)
@@theluxurypickers I cant believe any business would condone this type of approach, especially a charity for mental health, hopefully a stern talking to was had and they take a lighter approach next time, thankfully you were recording at the time, I appreciate all the work you do ❤️
Why did he have to be so at you straight away! He treated you like you guys were criminals, they can just politely ask you not to …. Silly … I’d be bloody excited if I saw you two !
That’s hilarious. I film for my Wife’s Channel (The Crafty Nana) and we have indeed been in that shop but I guess jobsworth wasn’t there. I have been asked a few times (in various charity shops) why I am filming, but once they know it’s for RUclips they are fine. I also liked that he also asked why you were filming his ‘goods’ pretentious prick, it’s a charity shop. Not his goods. But ultimately it’s a charity shop, the more stuff they sell and the more people that know what great bargains can be found, surely that can only be good for the charity. This dude boggles me. Mind need to have a word with him. You were being polite and not filming other people shopping.
Hi, I'm new to your channel. I just want to say the way that Manger delt with you was Poor. I can tell that the Manger was nervous as hell. You were both really nice about it and for him to ask you to leave was just shameful on his behalf.
It was completely unnecessary to ask you to leave. All he had to do was ask you not to film if that’s what he wanted. I do think however it would be courteous of you to always ask when you go in if it’s okay to film. Bear in mind also that staff and volunteers at Mind shops are often current or past recipients of Mind services and may be working there as part of their recovery and so might not be on their top form when it comes to social interactions.
He was very forward. It was very upsetting at the time, we completely understand what we do not everyone will like and everyone has rules etc, but there are ways and means…thank you for watching!
He literally stopped a MAN flicking through the Womenswear, you could have said your channel was about cross dressing and transexuality and then he's technically committed a hate crime i.e what Mind charity should be concerned with as mental health issues are what they deal with (another person treated like this could go home and self harm!) Perhaps see what reaction you get if you give that backstory!

Bloody jobs worth fair enough... would you stop filming no need to ask to leave not like you have faces on.. I'd have said I'm a mystery shopper 😂 Let them be but yeh they will loose out as you won't be going back so now lost money for the charity job well done then... Like you said doesn't seem to be a branch issue just a jobsworth and yeh jealously is a big part In this I think. Handled very well might I add fair play. on your side with this one no need for the aggressive nature. Again bloody jobs worth.
Don't understand this at all ! He was very rude, you were customers, and surely it is a form of advertising to film Charity Shops and their range of products..
What a terrible advert for the mind charity. Thats an awful shame as its the charity I have chosen to give all my donations too & I advise my local store on a weekly basis on how best to maximise profits from some items. I can only assume that the person here recognised you & thought they would challenge your right to film. But by doing that they have damaged the reputation of the charity & even made it less likely for others to choose Mind as a charity to support. Although I urge others not to punish the charity for the actions of one employee I can understand with so many places eager to welcome you how you could be tempted to tell mind to bugger off & chose another. That would be an awful but understandable reaction. As for your monster glass, 24:00 you are not ment to fill it to the top by dumoping an entire bottle in it, its for your to swirl it around to get the smell & the taste. They are often used for wine tasting.
Your right Sean! We would never hold the charity or charity shop responsible for an individual’s actions. As we said in the video it was one person and one person only at fault. Re: the the wine glass it’s totally meant for dumping a bottle and a half into I don’t care what you say! 😂😂😂
I have to say, i genuinely believe people who buy and resell from charity shops have forgotten why their there. I've heard you tubers comment that prices are outrageous yet they don't think twice about buying something and reselling it by 400% PROFIT. How many charity shops would you actually visit if you didn't resell ? Charity shops shouldn't be used to make a profit. You just barged in there thinking about nothing but profit. How many times have you actually thought about the charity you're supporting? When the manager approached you you still had no respect and continued shuffling through the hangers until he put his hand on the rail to stop you. You seriously need to start respecting the establishments you're shopping in.
Thank you for taking the time to message. We spend thousands and thousands of pounds a year in charity shops while actively supporting, promoting and encouraging people to use them. Charity shops are retail shops that sell second hand goods and clothing to make a profit and money for the chosen charity. And it’s super cool. On average resellers spend 100 times more in charity shops then the average person. And shouldn’t be judged like any one should be judged, especially when they are giving so much money to the said charities. We source from many places but use charity shops as a example of how to make extra money using a resource available to everyone while also supporting a good cause. In a time when the cost of living is so high the opportunity for many people to supplement they’re pay or make money is fantastic. We walked in like everyone else, browsed the rails and tried to find some good pieces for us. And we actually spent in there too! We respect all charities and the hard work behind them, we both support them with our promoting and money. Like all resellers over the world. The way in which this manager chose to handle the situation was aggressive and rude. He went on to personally verbally abuse us, we stopped filming when asked, and purchased from the store. We have since been contacted by mind, who are in full support of resellers and promotion of their stores to resellers.
Just wanted to pop by and say thank you for all your hard work, I appreciate everything you do, I generally get overwhelmed when I go in to charity shops and listening to all your advice and knowledge has given me a great place to start - thank you 🤗

So Mind say it is down to the manager, yet he said head office asked you to stop ( if I got the gist right ) so in that case he lies as well. Great video.
You are spot on! Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻
I got kicked out of charity shop for talking on my phone. I wasn’t loud but they didn’t want me to ring people to tell them what was in store 😵💫
Was this a secret location?! 😂😂😂 I would of stood in the doorway and continued my conversation!
@@theluxurypickers same power play as your experience 🤣
I would say the gent may be over-reacting, and you should suggest to his superiors that he works on his communication skills- not really suitable management material for a charity promoting positive mental health IMHO......I dont resell yet but you are an inspiration- as a nurse I really could use supplementing my paltry pay xx
A nurse we should be the ones thanking you! So thank you! 🙌🏻 if we can ever help in the future just let us know ❤️
@@theluxurypickers awww x
Next time I'm in Taunton I'll be sure not to pop into that Mind! I don't have much luck in their branches anyway, which is a shame as it's a fantastic charity. But I'm going to have my wits about me if I'm suddenly approached by staff in the future!
Fantastic charity! 🙌🏻
The guy was a grade A prick,no need for him to be rude and as for asking you to leave , ridiculous, when he put his hand on the hangers to stop you flicking he shown his character.
Couldn’t agree more! Thanks for watching! 🙌🏻
Thanks for your comments
One word "Tosser*. He was on a power trip and obviously has no brain cells worth getting into conversation.
On another note. The videos are great and informative whether you buy or not, because its equally as informative to know what stuff you dismiss. Saves me having my fingers burnt on items I should just leave there. Thank you guys, you're brill 👍
“One word” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for supporting we appreciate you! 🙌🏻
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 what a plonker!
The guy sounded pretty aggressive,i hope not all managers and staff of mind charity are not like this 👀
I think its a isolated event!
@@theluxurypickers I cant believe any business would condone this type of approach, especially a charity for mental health, hopefully a stern talking to was had and they take a lighter approach next time, thankfully you were recording at the time, I appreciate all the work you do ❤️
Wonderful informative video yet again guys.
The Manager was a complete troglodyte.
Thanks Alexa! 😂😂😂😂
Why did he have to be so at you straight away! He treated you like you guys were criminals, they can just politely ask you not to ….
Silly …
I’d be bloody excited if I saw you two !
Exactly how we felt. Even are knee jerk reply, we were in shock!
All great points! It’s insane the divide in peoples attitudes, thanks you for your comments 👌🏻
Hi, I'm new to your channel. I just want to say the way that Manger delt with you was Poor. I can tell that the Manger was nervous as hell. You were both really nice about it and for him to ask you to leave was just shameful on his behalf.
As a film maker and also a reseller you was 100% within your right to film. They were really out of order sorry to hear how you both was treated.
Thanks so much we appreciate you! 👍🏻
Thank you for taking the time to comment. Really appreciate your views and insight. ❤️
i would have given him your card and said you might learn something
He was having none of it! 🤣
That manager was so aggressive and putting his hand on the rail… so unnecessary and rude!
Great point. Thanks for watching! 🙌🏻
Oh wow he could have been nicer about it 😳
He was very forward.
This is next level thinking😂😂😂
He lied
He said he’d been on to head office
100% 😂😂😂

Ok I will thanks I want to learn other than the big standards that I know all ready
I was astonished by his unprofessional behaviour what a PR disaster for Mind.
what was he scared off for heavens sake….
I have no idea! 😂😂😂😂
How intimidating was he!! - Totally uncalled for and very unprofessional. I found it really upsetting to watch and it would make me think twice about shopping in MIND if their managers are of the same elk 🙄
Someone definitely got out of the wrong side of the bed! 😂😂
He was very unprofessional.
To say the least!
the manger was rude coming over with a bad attitude the way he did i woundnt shop in there agian
When you start a conversation in the way he did it was never going to end well! 😂
Ohhhh mystery shopper that’s a great one!
😂😂😂😂😂
Was that really necessary?
He approached you in such a confrontational manner. It was uncalled for and unprofessional in my opinion.
He clearly got out of the wrong side of the bed! 😂😂😂
Guy was a Jobsworth very Rude
So rude! 😂
Don't understand this at all ! He was very rude, you were customers, and surely it is a form of advertising to film Charity Shops and their range of products..
We tried! 😂😂😂😂
I would have requested a copy of their "policy" i can guarantee they do not have one.
😂😂😂😂😂😂🙌🏻
