I've been keeping uaru for over 3 years. My favorite fish I've kept. Big personality, not aggressive and love lettuce and cucumber for treats. They get larger than people realize though so should have a 6ft tank.
I have a single Uaru and it's one of my favorite fish ever. It seems curious and watches me with its large red eyes, especially if I haven't fed them yet. I agree with what was said about working with your natural water state, like many fish, they are fairly adaptable. Consistent, stable parameters are more important than "perfect" parameters. If it helps anyone, mine is also quite peaceful but assertive at feeding time. It LOVES freeze dried baby shrimp & krill, frozen blood worms and floating pellets. It joyously devours live plants, some types more than others and will dig up the ones that it doesn't like. I keep it in a heavily planted tank, 77-79 degrees F with gravel, driftwood and large rocks and unconventional tankmates. It works hard to dig & rearrange the gravel, picking it up by the mouthful and spitting the pieces out on the other side of the tank and it likes to rest in the shade of the floating mass of plants that it uprooted. Very cool fish if you have the space and interest.
I love Uaru, I have a single one that grew from 1" to almost 10" in less than a year. He is definitely a "puppy" fish, eats from my hand and follows me around. beautiful fish
I’ve just purchased a young pair of uara , still have juvenile markings, so looking forward to them growing up with their adult markings, love yours in the 180 tank … keep up the great videos ❤
Never seen a Uaru irl, tbh i didn't know it existed since a recent video of MD, but i gotta say, they are beautiful, those red eyes are wonderful, this fish seems a xl keyhole
I have a pair of uaru in my tank , mates with discus and angel they are ALWAYS bite driftwoods for algae , every time i change water a lot of bitten driftwood is on floor tank they are massy eaters and want HUGE filtration and water change.
I'm so in love with those red eyes! but I have super hard water and a pH around 7.6, I just don't think they'd thrive here. what is the acara-ish looking silver guy with the black dot in the middle of his belly? I love his face!
I always wanted a True Parrot cichlid , Rivers to Reefs in Ohio had one for a few months. But the owner ended up snagging him for his tank. Understandably. 😁
Mine has turned into a psycho in my South America community tank. For some reason he/she is protecting a branch acting like there’s eggs present. Anyone got any tips other than putting it in the solitary confinement naughty tank??
honestly i'm surprised ppl like them so much, but they do, to each their own, but i can't get into them............i think they look ok in giant tanks like long and deep 500 gallons or something but they look absurd in 300 or less to me.
My favorite food to give Uaru can be found here:
Spirulina Flakes (Vegetable Based) - geni.us/ByXSoL
I feed the same thing thanks
I’m so in love with that 180.
You’re not by yourself.

what kind of water parameters do you have? I'm on a well and have super hard water with a pH around 7.6, I'm thinking they wouldn't thrive in it.
I’m so envious of all your tanks but especially this 180 gallon tank. It’s my absolute favorite. You’re my favorite CICHLID BRO to watch. ❤

Awesome video great information thanks for sharing
That’s for watching!
@@CichlidBros yall put out awesome video great content
Any different in water parameter requirement between normal uaru with panda uaru?
Same water parameters. They do seem to be slightly harder to keep. Beautiful though
How do you maintain water temperature, do you use heater?
Yep a heater
Troy the best! ❤😊
Thank you!
What size would you say is breeding size.. I have two that have suddenly started defending a territory. They are about 6" Thanks Kc
Hi so I’m keeping Mbunas, how many times should I feed them those Spirulina flakes a day and how many times a week
Do you add Seachem American cichlid salt and or trace. I live in Chicago and feel like adding minerals for better health in my 150, Thanks 🙏
Nope I don’t add anything and the uaru do just fine

How long does it take for them to grow out of the ick looking spots on them?
im actually going to get a group of these for my next group. I also want a group of threadfin acaras as well.
Great choices

Can I keep Geophagus, Uaru, Severum cichlids with small varieties fishes like Tetra, barbs etc?
I always wanted a True Parrot cichlid , Rivers to Reefs in Ohio had one for a few months. But the owner ended up snagging him for his tank. Understandably. 😁
They’re awesome fish!

These and oscars i can't keep HIH away.............always keep good water, is ph 7.5 too high
Leaf spinach?
Would be great for them
@@CichlidBros Thank you, it does seem to agree with them.
I’m surprised you haven’t got an Arowana yet 😮
Would love one, but tanks aren't big enough
honestly i'm surprised ppl like them so much, but they do, to each their own, but i can't get into them............i think they look ok in giant tanks like long and deep 500 gallons or something but they look absurd in 300 or less to me.
They look similar to a Discus and a Severum, any chances these are actually a hybrid species
No they are not hybrids
@@CichlidBros oh ok, they could be a close cousin of the severum cichlids then
❤❤❤
Ondricka Mill
77 is awful cold for uarus
Disagree. They’re completely fine in those temps
