Brian Eckes' 7 Minute Sermon Series I see what you did there. LOL I think he was friends with all of the presidents up until he died. Wish he were still alive today.
@@jrex7486 Yes, I think he understood more than most at that time that a human is a complex thing with both good and evil and the potential to probably incline more to the dark side than the light, something that most theologians and layman alike are still 'trying to figure out' lol. I think Cash tried hard to practice what he preached and tried to see the good in all people, ie, love one's neighbor and that sort of thing. I miss him too, but didnt really get into his work and life history until the day Hurt was dropped, a song made famous by NIN but, at least for me, perfected by Cash. He was always trying to use his art to say something without coming across as a Bible thumper, a sad fact I think is true. Again, I believe here he walked the line as well, the line between saint and sinner. But his final body of musical work and his TV work I believe portray him the right way, just a hard working blue collar man with faith in God and country who made it big but still tried to keep close to his folk/country roots too all the while still 'walking the line' in his artistic output. This song is truth, not only about the Vietnam war youth and the 60s, but also about Cash's consciousness of the times as well and rather than speak ill of the President himself, Cash took it into another direction and spoke well of people mainly. That was not only a smart thing to do, but also a righteous one in my book at least. Its interesting to note, that Cash COULD have hated Nixon after his manifold sinful fall, true, but unlike Hunter S. Thompson who never stopped literally despising and hating Nixon, Cash was able to forgive too and move on because Cash, again, knew the frailties of humans (Cash got deep into hard drugs at one time). Its also interesting to note that Cash die rather peacefully, while Hunter committed suicide. I will never judge a person, but I do wonder if Hunter's hatred of Nixon may have had some small, even if very small, part to play in Hunter's untimely death. I think Billy Graham, another man of faith, he too had friendships will all of the presidents he advised, although I think with a few he rather thought of them as 'distasteful' in their behaviors and manners. I wish Cash were alive today too, but I sometimes wonder if we live to be too old, we might turn bitter, cynical, and, in the end, full of hatred.
Brian Eckes' 7 Minute Sermon Series I remember watching one of his concerts about 10 or 15 years ago when it was on television. It was from him back in the 1990s and he said that if it wasn’t for redemption, he wouldn’t be here. That had a really big impact on me because I was fairly young at the time. I completely agree with you. That was well said. I got into his music when I found his personal file album that they released in 2006. I always knew that he was a famous singer but that album really opened me up to who he was as a person on top of that.
This song is more relevant than ever. In this day of disinformation where lies are treated as truth, we need a man like Johnny Cash to set the record straight.
The noted social critic Butt-head (of Beavis and Butt-head fame) fame described a Johnny Cash music video as "some kind of gangsta rap." For such a stupid character, this was one of the most insightful comments I have ever heard. Johnny Cash truly was the OG.
If you like Cash, hopefully you're watching PBS and Ken Burns "Country Music". I've never been much of a fan, but I had forgotten how many of those songs I've heard and still know the lyrics too, like Patsy Kline. It also points out that the banjo, while it's been forever linked to country music or bluegrass, it was actually brought over by.....wait for it.......... SLAVES, the very slaves that whites kidnapped and brought here, brought us the banjo, naturally, whites being whites it was co-opted
i remember watching this when it aired... i was twelve at the time. i wept then, it was such a good message, it still makes the tears come many thanks for posting this, it is special and pertinent to our lives even now, fourty years later.
Amen JC! Thanks for sharing our American heritage abargle, much edification for our nation. Ie: "Heaven forbid that "they'd" take away our freedom of speech America" says Johnny Cash in 1970. With the B-iDeen junta it is so. You only missed it by 50 years JC. No wonder you were "Hurt" as June preceded you in passing on. Rest well good sir and in peace with her and Father. Thanks again abargle 😏
Son, this is disillusion. It's Trump and his cadre of insurrectionists that have tried to take the power away from the people. And now it's come to light that he's openly disseminated Top Secret military secrets which may have led to the current situation in Israel/Gaza. I sincerely hope you've come to see the light since you wrote these words.
He would be rolling over in his grave today if he saw the censorship that people are being faced with just for stating their beliefs. I don’t care if you’re a liberal or a conservative. You have the right to have your voice and your opinion heard and no one should ever try to censor you.
Nobby Heads no I’m not talking about people like the black supremacist that RUclips is trying to ban. I’m talking about every day people being kicked off just because they hold a different opinion than those in charge of those companies.
Nobby Heads I don’t think anybody should be censored regardless of what they believe. They should have a right to say what they want regardless. You have a point regarding the data harvesting. Google has its hands in everything. The fact that antitrust lawsuit are preparing to be filed against them is really something. They are trying to take away our freedom of speech slowly but Shirley. I would defend anyone regardless of what they believe because if they can get rid of them, they can eventually get rid of me.
Nobby Heads Google has its hands in almost everything. Multinational companies are a major problem when they are compiling all of this data that is supposed to be private for unknown reasons. They might tell you why they are using it but I don’t believe them. Don’t trust any social media or so-called news media. It is all controlled by the same exact people and funded by the same corporations regardless if it is right or left. As for nationalism, that in and of itself is not bad. That is just love for your country and wanting it to govern it’s own affairs. The problem is when people attempt to combine it with other things.
the Unions man the Unions!! Save the Unions and save America. See the Unions go completely and the collective bargain right, and we are one step closer in to a futurustic life where only few have money and the rest are slaves

Well. Its more or less a song for president Nixon (live performed in the white house) that critises the view of Nixon and a lot of other people that time on the "counter movement" of the late 60`s and early 70's. Nixon thaught with Johnny Cash he`d have a great patriotic support. And what happend : Johnny Cash sings a Song about Understanding the youth ... the hippies....Outlaws and Free Spirits that protest against Vietnam war and the lies of Nixon. @@noahv.l6543 Nixon didn't start the Vietnam war though, he ended it. What lies did he tell? I'm starting to think Johnny Cash was just brainwashed by the media like today's celebrities are.
7rue Op1n1on What lies did Nixon tell? Let's start with the Pentagon Papers. It proved Nixon a liar and hypocrite. And, sure, Nixon inherited the Vietnam war, but he also expanded it behind congress' back (he didn't just lie, he was acting illegally), and then expanded it further with the Cambodian incursion (after telling America that he's gonna end the war.). After Nixon resigned because of watergate (as if you needed any more proof of Nixon as a liar and without moral reasoning, see watergate), it was President Ford who ended the Vietnam war with America in defeat.
