It's crazy how they had more respect for black people in the 1970s than they do now.
They didn't have respect then neither, that's why you had Esther Rolle and John Amos demanding the respect. Not wanting JJ to be the clown of the show that flunked out of school.
@kuunami, it was because there weren't premium channels (cable or satellite) or streaming services to move entertainment beyond the prime-time networks back in the day. 📺 📡 🖥
They didn't have more respect. More of us were will to stand for something and fight back then than today.

Back then, it was a step to a good, solid middle-class job that had not yet been outsourced. That process of outsourcing was already in progress when the OG *Good Times* premiered. Making Archie Bunker the face of the American working class made it easier to justify this in the eyes of those responsible.

@kidd66, Ms. BernNadette Stanis has always had a sweet demeanor about her that pretty much wasn't much a stretch to playing her character on the sitcom back in the 1970's.
@samiam6065, I have always been taught beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It's when one spends a significant amount of time with another is when one finds about the other along the way.
She probably signed a nondisclosure agreement with the production company, so if so, she is bound to that. This is the most publicity she has had in a long time, ironically.

It's not all of Seth McFarland fault. Stephen Curry is the 1st executive producer named. Mr. 3 points need to be held accountable for his actions also. If we're going to point fingers Stephen Curry needs to be pointed at TOO !

She right..the first scene in the TV Show is the daddy in the shower singing the theme song with a cockroach 🤦 and that's the first 4 minutes.. ay this shit soul plane, leprechaun in the hood level..and I hate how they throw Carl Jones name in the beginning credits of the show when he disassociated hisself with the show waaayyyy before it even came out!
She's right, there's a HUGE disconnect. This reboot exudes being black and poor is funny and comical. That insulting! The orinigsl Good Times was about pushing through and finding the humor in being black and poor in America. Major distinction between what 'funny' between the two.....

Sony owns the rights. Sony is Japanese. Japan barely has any black people in it. They had nothing to do with making the OG because it was long since off the air when Lear sold his studio to Coca-Cola.

When interviewed about this, he said he wouldn't let his kids watch it as it wasn't show for kids. Also said people should give it a chance. Sometimes, you just need to admit you made a mistake. Shame on him.

Ms. BernNadette Stanis was being interviewed on the entertainment newsmagazine "TMZ" while trying to explain her involvement along with that of Mr. Jimmie Walker regarding the atrocious animated take on the old school television show from the 1970's. It was hard for her to find the right words to explain the intense ghetto take on the program. I'm sure the show creator the late Mr. Norman Lear & the show female lead the late Ms. Esther Rolle wouldn't approve of such a travesty for the purpose of continuing the legacy of the sitcom from the past. 📺
Norman Lear let them use his name on this. He is still screwing over Eric Monte from beyond the grave. The funniest thing about all these reboots of his shows is how the one time they actually tried to get original cast members back is the one show that left the biggest stain on Lear's entire legacy, such as it was to begin with: *wh's th bss.* The only actress on that show who was any good in anything else was Katherine Helmond, and she died to avoid having to relive eight years of embarrassment. That one show did more to harm race relations because it undermined everything the other shows tried to do to be part of the solution. They also ripped off Nell Carter's show, and what they didn't steal from her show, they stole from Ted Danson's.
It's a travesty and it's OBVIOUS without even looking at the cartoon. The trailer reflected EVERYTHING. ..nuff said.
Why did they call it Good Times?

The thing that got me was that after 40 years, they are still in the projects..... even though that's TRUE for lots of black folks that live in the projects and impoverished neighborhoods.. if we are so embarrassed, we have to do better as a collective to change the narrative.....😅😮😢
If they thought the song would be offensive to Black people, they shouldn’t have even written the lyrics that way in the song to begin with.
That explains the closing credits theme about "watching the asphalt grow, thinking how it all looks hand-me-down." Lyricists Alan and Marilyn Bergman grew up in Brooklyn during the depression, like my grandfather did. It's not like they had no idea what poverty looked like.

Did they decide to go in the creative direction they went in before or after Norman Lear's death? How much more grave robbing of his legacy are we going to get?
It takes months to finish an episode of an animated series, so it is likely that they might have still been throwing around a bunch of different ideas for how it was going to look before they decided on this when they were recording the voices. Between Norman Lear dying (face it: we all knew that day was going to come), and Carl Jones quitting and Seth MacFarlane getting virtually no scrutiny whatsoever over it to his face.

Jimmie Walker was correct in saying that it would be hard to have a sitcom showing black people living in poverty. Animation was the only way you could get around it.

This animation depicts the struggle of black people as a joke... slapped with the title "Good Times". It makes you wonder, Good Times for who? The original series offered inspiration to keep pressing forward in the midst of struggle accompanied with a side of humor. What's most noticeably missing is the progression of doing better. Some things are best when left completely alone.
They should’ve LEFT “GOOD TIMES” ALONE! I watched the new animated series & it’s really AWFUL! The creators, producers, all the actors & actresses that voiced those characters, only did it for THE MONEY! They just need to be honest and say “LOOK, WE WAS BROKE & NEEDED THE MONEY” cause they all knew, we the fans “GOOD TIMES”, would NOT approved it! Honestly; I don’t think Norma Lear approved it either! The writers & creators should’ve at least gave the animated series a NEW NAME! The ONLY episode I really liked was the PERIOD episode, when Grace got her period and even with THAT EPISODE, IT COULD’VE BEEN WRITTEN IN A MORE BETTER WAY & THEY COULD’VE WENT MORE IN DEPTH WITH THAT EPISODE! But overall, the ANIMATED “Good Times” is AWFUL & HORRIBLE!

This makes me think about All in The Family. The absurd attitudes and ideas that Archie and his friends portrayed were hysterically wrong and absurd. Now, most of those are part of "this world's" acceptable, normal, fully-practiced, everyday life. Completely regressive and very sad.

This shouldn't happened in the first place the sitcom was already messed up with the cast.
And the thing is this minstrel show isnt even the only problem with Black entertainment today. Most shows featuring Black casts are either crime shows, Tyler Perry shows or just unfunny laugh track blasting shitcoms. We have nothing on par with classics like Good Times, Sanford and Son, The Jeffersons, The Cosby Show, Martin, Fresh Prince, The Steve Harvey Show, Living Single etc.
This is embarrassing. It should’ve never been named good times. It sounds like buyers remorse after she was offered a part. The answer should’ve been NO and protested from the beginning and she could’ve tried to get a reunion special with the surviving cars members. Just my thoughts.

Unpopular opinion: I thought the cartoon was entertaining with funny moments here and there.
*Velma* was better. At least that took a show that represented everything wrong with western animation over the last five decades and made it funny. If anything, it's more successful as a faux-Norman Lear-type show than this authorized reboot of the real deal.
