Have you had DBS? Are you considering it? What has been your experience?

Had DBS back in 2012 - originally for Essential Tremors, but testing eventually uncovered Parkinson's. As a positive side effect, also treated my Major Depressive Disorder. Only regret is that I didn't ask for testing of playing musical instrument during the operation. But even that has come back, along with a "Lust for Life" (to quote Billy Idol). The battery replacement operation is not as big a hit if one asks for IV sedation only - no gas anesthetic whatsoever. Quicker bounce back to normal, too. Changed my life for the better. Recent research reports have shown that early DBS has had beneficial changes to the brain (search on NIH PubMed under Parkinson's Disease).

Hi.. my dad had DBS back in 2002.. here in UK... and a meditronic stimulator control. Here they attached 2 electrodes to two points in the brain.. close to the speech centres.
The internal battery life we were told was approx 10 years depending on both frequency and adjustments of the settings.
I believe now there is advancements in both positioning and technique of surgery.
      I fully endorse this procedure.

is he an expert in DBS? And at the same time, he is not a neurologist or neurosurgeon and does not perform this operation?

    • @Ann-sf6od

The gentleman interviewed is involved in the complex job of making the surgery work. Programming is crucial and a specialized knowledge base that surgeons don't have

@@Ann-sf6odyou write complete nonsense. Only a neurosurgeon knows how and where to place the electrodes. And this man is just a physical therapist who is not even a doctor. And thanks to him, surgery doesn't work. Surgery works thanks to surgeons.
programming should be done by a neurologist who specializes in movement disorders. And this physical therapist is not a neurologist and does not have the competence to do so. He definitely does not participate in the operation in any way.))) Don't write nonsense.

I’m 3 weeks post DBS surgery. I have MedTronic. I’m concerned with having to go under to replace the battery so often.
