    Many HP's with supposedly "adequate" headband padding ends up being insufficient for those (many) of us with a ridge at the top of the skull. Only Sennheiser seem to acknowledge this in their headband design with the gap up top. An easy way to avoid a pressure spot right there.

      Yep, I can not wear anything that doesn't either have a notch or is soft enough. The Sundara's leather strap is a no go for me, I have to add my own padding to make it not hurt that ridge.

    • @omgiTzkitteh
      @omgiTzkitteh 5 месяцев назад +1

      @residentzeroso the K371 I have I put Senn Momentum 3 leather pads on them which makes the treble and upper-mids smoother (it removes the “grain” from the K371).
      I just got the Azurys a few days ago. I think they sound very similar to my K371 (with the leather pads) but are a bit warmer on vocals, and sliiiiightly less treble. There is a biiiiit more mid-bass than my K371 too. Vocals sound more natural/smooth due to the added warmth, but I will say I do miss the “tightness” of the K371. But Azurys definitely is more natural sounding at the cost of some energy/bite that the K371 has. They are more comfortable overall and better-built though. Same overall sound signature though.
      For technicalities, I don’t think the soundstage is any different than my K371 (once again, with the leather pads).
      But the main problem I have with the K371 is how everything becomes a jumbled mess on busy tracks or tracks with multiple guitars or effects… otherwise they sounded great. So far on my Azurys, I haven’t noticed the “business”
      I love them, though! Love the color and build quality. They are my main closed backs now.
      Overall they are better than the K371, but I wish there was a biiiit more treble/bite to the sound and I’m kinda anti-EQ (not the thing itself but because I need consistency across all my sources). But hey, brains adjusted to them already so it’s no issue now. The K371 does sound a bit too “throaty” or something if that makes sense though, as a result of the added bite.

    I find it surprising that the options for a good closed-back are so limited. When I'm not worried about bothering neighbors or the neighbors are not bothering me I will fire up speakers. AFAIK they have a very bad sound consistency between different heads/fits, moreso than an average closed back even. I guess that's due to small and shallow earcups, among other things. Treble is extension also seems suboptimal, though it should enough, and even may be better than having Mountains of Madness there which you can't EQ out without effectively killing all the treble anyway.
      That's what stopping me from giving them a try. Well, and the fact that they now cost almost twice as much as they should where I live.

    All these headphone reviews never address distortion and loudness, I have some Sennheiser HD560S, they sound great except when I crank up the volume they distort way too easy, the same was true for a pair of Beyerdynamic headphone I tried. When you look at the specification of the drivers they might be sensitive but the max power is in the mW range. I have many expensive headphones but I always use my M50X's with non stock pads, they go loud, they don't distort, they have plenty of low end, they are the most fun and provide to most enjoyment for me. I wish I could find something with a similar characteristic to the M50X's with more refinement in the high frequencies, the closest is some Monolith M1060C headphones, the problem is they seem to give me sleep issues.

      My homie, that kind of comment is exactly what the ‘I would never believe someone’ preface was for.
      I’m telling you as someone who owns these headphones or has owned them, Focal’s lower end closed backs are not much more comfortable than the Maxwell and severely fall behind in everything else. I can see the Sennheiser consideration (though that’s also probably going to give you a headache after a while), but I promise you Focal’s closed backs really suck compared to their peers.
