Thanks for doing this. I just bought this grinder. Grizzly had $100 off of it before Christmas. I haven't even used it yet. I have been wondering what modifications might be possible and which ones may be necessary. This helped a bunch. I'm very interested in the small wheel attachment.
@@toddhatten354 you are very welcome. I hope some of the information was helpful. I do have another video actually a few on modifying the small wheel attachment. Let me know if you need help with anything or have any other questions. Appreciate you watching! 👊
I got one shortly after Frenchie got his. No problems with the motor yet almost a year later but I baby it and dont use it very often. According to the Grizzly website they've since updated the motor. I plan on upgrading to a 2x72 eventually but this machine has worked well in the interim especially since I bought mine on sale.
@@scablandsbushcraft6698 well said! And well played!!! I think it’s almost necessary to “baby” it at least a little! Thanks for watching and sharing!!! Good luck to you brother! 👊
I wish this had come out two years ago. I upgraded from my 1x30 to a $300 Amazon 2x42 belt/disc grinder which was a MASSIVE upgrade but this would have been so much better. But now that I have the Amazon one it doesn’t make sense to get this one as I plan on saving up for a grizzly 2x72.
@@northeastwoodsman9895 100 percent agree! I think I’m gonna be saving up for a house made 2 x 72. I hear really good things about them and as long as you can weld it’s much cheaper than buying a professional machine…. Last I looked though the grizzly 2 x 72 was on sale for like six or 700 bucks. The house made one is like 1200 bucks and then you have to still buy the motor and VFD and together that’s like another 700 bucks…. That’s a ton of money!!! The grizzly 2 x 72 is a good idea!
Wow cant believe its been a year since you purchased the grinder! Id love to get one for myself because my 2x48 is not the best for knife making and I cant tilt it horizontally which sucks because it would make finishing the spine a lot easier. Unfortunately no one stocks these machines in my country.
Good review - Your knives are very nice - I'd be interested in the build of those. Good mods you did to the Grizzly - sure wish they'd made it a 2X48 since 2X42 belts are not as available as 2X48 belts. My Grizzly is scheduled to be delivered today so I'll get to play with it over the weekend.

Definitely a hobbyist level machine that's way better then a 1x30 machine..considering a 2x48 inch belt fits on it and a 8 inch contact wheel can be made to fit the machine at a low entry price point compared to the avg 2x72 belt grinder price..I think of the machine as a great stepping stone to fund a 1.5 to 2 hp 2x72 belt grinder and if still functional, used for handle and sheath work..the 3/4 hp motor is a bit underpowered overall when compared to an industrial machine like a 2x72 belt grinder..really want 1hp per 1inch of belt width..but then your getting into a 240v setup vs the Grizzly 120v setup.. trade offs and balances that only you can decide which is right for your purpose..
When you are ready for an upgrade look at the HouseMade Revolution 2x72 build kit. All in it looks to be running about $1,300. I built one even thought I already had a KMG. It was a fun project and is handy to have a second belt grinder.
@@TheOGfrenchy Yes, There kit is under $1100, I got a 2HP motor on Amazon which is about $165 and the VFD is about $80. Housemade runs specials pretty oftern including the grinders. When I got my kit they were offering the tilt table for free.
@@MJFacascan you please send me links for the kit, he motor, and the VFD. I will be greatly thankful for your help. Also, any suggestions for adhesive suppliers? Thanks.
Solid machine! The mods you did are top notch. I think it's a solid choice for someone with limited space and funds. Too bad the motors suck. I was lucky enough to find someone with a house made grinder kit for sale that would take payments.
I received my Grizzly Belt Grinder 2x 42 a week ago , came with an issue, the tool rest goes in the platen assembly rest and the the platen assembly goes in the tool rest in other words the factory made it reverse , it works but not ideal , contacted support waiting for explanation
@@juanboyd2895 do you mean they shipped it out with the work rest in the top slot and the platen in the bottom!? Or did they assemble each on the wrong tooling arm!? The tool rest arm has a slight bend towards the end! WEIRD! Either way!
@@TheOGfrenchy yes work rest in the top slot of platen in the bottom , it works except for the tool rest , i can fix it but have to go through a problem that shouldnt any recommendations i can show pics
