My name is Matt and on this channel I post knife making videos and different forging projects. I started this hobby in March of 2023. I am by no means a professional but like to share what works and what doesn't work for me in hopes to help people with different knifemaking steps. I hope you enjoy the videos and learn something from them. Let me know in the comments what you like about my videos! I respond to every single question or comment as I like to know what you think! Thanks, I'll definitely check them out.
Looking good.
@@Jeffrose_ thanks Jeff! Appreciate you!
I’m a hobbyist knife maker and I have the same grinder and drill press. I’ve had mine more than a year. No problems with the motor. I concur on the tool rest. It’s pretty worthless for knife grinding because of the diminutive size. My other issue is belt tracking. It tracks perfectly at slow to moderate speeds, but when you turn it up the belt moves left or right. It also slides to the side if you apply very much pressure to the belt when grinding. Overall, it’s been worth the money.
@@ozarked2363 definitely agree with you for sure! Thanks for sharing your experience! Appreciate you watching!!! 👊
Man. You make grinding those bevels look a breeze. I freakin' SUCK at bevels.
Thanks for the compliment. Trust me when I tell you I’m not near as good as I want to be. It’s one of those things that just takes practice and each time I grind levels I am slightly better. I think it also makes a difference having your grinder set up in an optimal conditionmeaning the belt tension, the Plattin location compared to the belt, etc. the more you do the better you’ll get just keep at it, brother!
@@TheOGfrenchy Thanks. I have the 2x42 that you have, and it's fine. I also have a bevel jig, which works ok. The biggest issue I have is that the jig, when set on my tool rest, hits the grinder right on the top roller. Any idea how to drop the tool arm down like a 1.5"? I'm not much of a welder, and I really don't want to go cutting up the tool arm I have.
@ I was just out here, looking at mine and seeing if there was a way without welding, and I can’t see an easy fix you could try to build a little platform out of scrap wood that you could rest in front of the grinder on a table that would be lower to the table top? Outside of that I’m not sure how to do it without fabricating something.
@ alright. I’ll give that a whirl.
Thanks for the tips on removing handle scales. I have 1 that I need to rework.
Did you build your own quench tank? I've see several that look similar.
@@MJFacas yes I did. I work in a fabrication shop at a fence company and just used 4 x 4 square metal post for the tank and welded on a plate on the bottom and a fence gate hinge for a lid. lol
Nice video and well presented info.
@@StrayWolfForge thanks brother!
Phoenix abrasives sell a belt that has almost a scotchbrite backing that takes all the chatter out of higher grit belts. Game changer
Do you have any more specifics on those belts? Not finding them at their site - thanks.
@ they are called blue micron polish and sanding belts. They have a felt backing and since I’ve started using them I can honestly say I’ll never use a j flex belt again.
Nice work on the guard!
Thanks Brother! Appreciate you checking out the video!
Love it! Anything that decreases hand sanding is worth it. Going to make one just waiting for it warm up a bit and working up enough nerve to weld it up! -Be my 3rd time to (tack) weld.😆😳
@@StevenBurrisk you can do it brother!
@ Thanks bro the encouragement!😆
I guess I have to catch up, and start watching more than one time. Retirement is right around the corner, closer to that first million.

Two videos are nice. Great work, as always. Thank you
@@kennethomeara9848 thanks for the input! Much appreciated!!!! 👊😁
That's looking really good so far. I prefer two part videos, where you can include more steps/details. I use youtube both as entertainment, and a means to learning tips and tricks for improving my own knife making skills, so the more detail the better.
@@aviweisbach7816 great to know!!! Thank you very much for the input!!! That is exactly what I do as well! Entertainment and learning! Both are a must for me! Thanks very much for watching and sharing!
Agree 100%. In for more tips and details.
@ great to know!! Thanks for the input! I feel like the videos are more beneficial to those who make knives ! I know for me I would much rather learn something from someone else then to watch them make something super cool and wonder how they did it!

Thanks for the video and sharing your experience.
Looking forward to 2025. Three phase motor may be a problem.
@@MJFacas Me too!!! I’m going to keep pushing and creating! Thanks brother!
Love the review! You showed a kitchen knife with a downturned, octagonal handle that you did on this grinder. If you have video of that process, I think it would make a great handle-making video. If you didn't, and you decide to make that style handle again, please consider videoing it as a tutorial. Many thanks for your videos!
@@clayweaver2066 that is a great idea. I really do like that handle way more so than I like the knife. lol I did a time lapse of grinding the handle on the build video of this knife, but didn’t go into super detail. I will certainly do that next time I make the style handle! Thanks for the feedback! 👊
@@TheOGfrenchy I will be waiting to see it!

I didn't see the attachment for a 2x42 or did I miss understand you
@@noejitta meaning you didn’t see me talking about that attachment in this video? Or. Are you trying to find a small wheel attachment specifically for a 2 x 42?
@@noejitta I probably didn’t cover enough about modifying the attachment in this video. I have other videos going a little more in depth on the process of that…. And this particular attachment is something you buy separate. It’s meant to attach to a tooling arm on a 2 x 72, but you can tweak it to get it to work on the grizzly!

@@newtsleatherandmetalsmithy1827 Ted has a bad ass forge! That would be sweet I’ll have to look into those!
@TheOGfrenchy thay are 450 before taxes and shipping and come ready to go right out of the box just hook the regulator and fan to the burner and the tank turn on the fan then light the forge but be careful when blocking off the front and back as you can melt your steel and the lining real quick
@ ok is it a forced air ribbon burner style? I don’t know much about them
@TheOGfrenchy i work for atlas its not a ribbon burner but is forced air the refractory is casolite 50/25 mixed with chromium pwder the shell is 304 stainless can reach temps exceeding 2500 deg f.
Any questions you might have ill be happy to answer
