I remember this case so vividly!! I was about 11/12 when it happened. There was a song called "Dear Mr. Jesus" sung in a little girl's voice that they would always on local radio and I would cry each time I heard it. Mr. Steinberg got away with so much because he had money, a good career and a tony West Village address, meanwhile he was a drugged out abusive devil. Poor Lisa Steinberg was failed by society. I'm glad this story is getting renewed attention. May she continue to RIP.
Online search -- From Casetext: Smarter Legal Research People v. Steinberg ( Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of New York, First Department, Aug 8, 1991) . What Ins Ed has touched upon in this case is a very small fraction of what really happened to the little girl. Surprising that nobody in her school or neighborhood raised an alarm seeing how filthy & bruised she always was.
A New York Post says “The badly neglected boy thrived after he was returned to his Long Island birth mom, Nicole. She renamed her son Travis, and he went on to score straight-As and graduate with honors from Massapequa HS, where he played varsity soccer and lacrosse, before attending Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. He went on to get married and have a successful career in banking.”
Scumbag. Liar. Loser. Should have been in general population. Yes, I remember this case being all over the news, even in California. His abuse was horrid and long term. Hedda N did not get much sympathy as the public felt she, Heda, had a duty to protect little Lisa. He should still be in prison. My feelings have not really changed on this case. The horror remains: Lisa was let down by so many adults in her life.
I’ll bet he talked his way out of it. He’s a fairly convincing liar, although his interview clip gave me vibes of someone trying to act like people think an innocent, grieving parent would. A lot of people might fall for it. Oh-and money. I’m sure he was able to remain safe in exchange for money or contraband.
I was named after this girl and when I was in my 20s, I went on an NYC ghost tour and one of the stops was the house she died in. Def was eerie and sad, I shed some tears for her.😔
10:55 *“U don’t belong sex crimes unit”* cuz she was emotional during the funeral of a little girl whose death *she* investigated 🤦🏼♂️ Sir, I hope u don’t have kids
How old is that investigator? I mean she was old enough to be investigating in 1987. That was 37 years ago! She doesn't even look 37 years old. She's gotta be close to 60 but looks younger than me. Unless she was investigating when she was 2
This DA is priceless! She reminds me of Olivia on SVU with Ice Tea! You wouldn’t be human woman if you didn’t cry!! Rest in peace that sweet little angel on earth. He’s scum of the earth. That crack messed everyone up but he really has issues. This still bothers me. I was born and raised on the West Coast and STILL this case maddens and saddens me. 💝
I remember this case like it was yesterday. It was horrific what happened to that beautiful little girl and Hedda . Joel Steinburg should never have been released -- he should spend the rest of his life in prison. There was no justice for little Lisa. Rest in peace with God sweet angel.
@gayaneg.3805 It's the original Law and Order. Aired in 1990, Season 1, episode 9 titled Indifference. The episode was revisited in Season 15, episode 11 titled Fixed, which reimagined what happened after the killer was paroled.
Why was the little boy returned to his birth mother if she paid that monster to find a new home for him? She obviously didn't want him and now the authorities may have put him in the arms of someone else who will do him harm.
@@carolannbowen9126 That was her choice. She chose to stay in a relationship with a man who was beating the hell out of her. She had the resources to leave him but didn't. After Steinberg rendered Lisa unconscious he left the apartment; she was there alone with Lisa. She did nothing, din not call an ambulance, just let her lie there in a coma on the floor. Horrible! I have no sympathy for Hedda Nussbaum at all. The only sympathy I have is for those two poor children who had to live with those two monsters, Joel Steinberg and Hedda Nussbaum.
Maybe she meant a squatter living in an abandoned home like the people that Kamala let into our country? Oh wait, they were given hotels and first-class accommodations courtesy of the taxpayers.
I remember this and this was my earliest memory of people talking about a case of child abuse like this. I was just 8 when this happened and it was the first time I heard of a case like this. Until then, I was a naive little kid thinking that all "parents" love their children and would never hurt them purposely, only later finding out that the little girl was illegally adopted by this monster.
I've been told by my mother that child abuse claims was swept under the rug back when she was a kid because she had a classmate that would come to school with bruises on her she was very quiet and didn't play with her classmates and sometimes she would miss school turns out she was being abused by her mother and stepfather.
@@dancingnature my Daddy took business trips up there in the 1980s and I stayed up there . They have a few nice areas . They make fun of the South ,lol. You couldn't pay me to live there.
I remember this story very well I was living on Long Island and I was in my early 20’s this was a horrible story a child death, child abuse , domestic violence, I remember the little baby boy went back to his biological mother she was an unwed teenager mother.
It keeps happening to me! RUclips automatically deletes my harmless comments and leave other people's awful hateful ones. I have no idea how they determine what to delete.
Poor M8tchell ends up back in the custody of the mother who gave em away💔 Sometimes that's not better than death. That situation usually leads to an whole lifetime of in e4 work a d therapy if the victim chooses to stop the traditions of abuse. Kinda sux for Mitchell. I hope he's well and healthy mentally
Also another fact when Lisa was buried, her biological mother had her daughter's tombstone engraved with her last name instead of that creep's last name. Just hearing this story I can't stop thinking about that season 1 episode from law and order.
I'm sorry this case did not change the way child protective services is run you guys have a history of claiming that every time a child is murdered but then sadly another child is murdered
I remember this case like it was yesterday. It was horrific what happened to that beautiful little girl and Hedda . Joel Steinburg should never have been released -- he should spend the rest of his life in prison. There was no justice for little Lisa. Rest in peace with God sweet angel.
It takes a wealthy person killing their child to have people give a damn about child abuse. 😢 This poor innocent baby girl.
The adopted father is a lawyer and adopted mother is an author so this was controversial. It doesn't fit the stereotypes.
.... " TOUCHÉ "

I still can’t believe that he did not get life in prison .Just pure cold murder.
I hope the baby boy is doing ok.
He went back to his biological mother.
So sick of hearing how it took horrible tragedies for them to think of laws to put into place or things to change.
Horrible tragedies that impact RICH people, don't get it twisted, now...poor people they'll ignore forever.

Where was her mother!? Was she his biological daughter!??
@@y.r.9401no. She was illegally adopted.
Like I always said if you want a Child Get a Dog First cuz if you can't take of a DOG then you have no business having Children
Half of them couldn't keep a hamster alive for more than a month
Ridiculous. 99% of these people treat their dogs better than their children.
People refer to the "good old days," and then you hear about all the many horrible things going on back then. Just a myth.
They mean a time where they didn’t have to see, deal with or interact with POC
Joel Steinberg is such a pathetic liar. He should have gotten life with no parole!
I remember this case. I was 14 and it’s the first case that’s stuck with me. RIP Lisa 🕊️
The Halloween story about Lisa broke my heart. He is vile.

David Groh played him.
