This range is fantastic in terms of size, thickness, solar, accuracy, and materials. Not as cheap as some rivals but it is ISO rated and will likely last 20 years before requiring any attention. I find mine very comfortable and the lume lasts all night once your eyes are dark adjusted. Refined, restrained and ready for anything.
My favorite dive watch line! Thank you Teddy. I honestly hope this line sells well and sticks around for Seiko. My SNE575 has caused most of my other divers to collect dust ... it took me an SKX, 5KX, and Mini Turtle to get here and still appreciate those, but this one is *it*
i got the sne569, it's the best watch i ever bought. The grey color is very unique and almost has kind of a vintage faded look. It looks a bit like a vintage submariner but it has enough seiko design elements to make it a unique looking watch. If you're looking for a solid dive watch with smaller dimensions and don't want the hassle of an automatic this is really the only watch on the market right now i think
That’s the one I have my eye one. Just became aware of it this week and I can’t stop watching videos on it and reading specs and reviews. Something about a silvery grey/ grey dial on a Seiko always speaks to me.
I will never fully understand the hate some people have for quartz. These days it's a bit like saying a Tesla or a BMW iX3 isn't a 'real' car just because of the engine. My go-to dive watches that I snorkel and scuba dive in are a Seiko solar tuna and a Marathon TSAR quartz, and I love that I rarely ever have to unscrew the crowns (except to adjust the date occasionally) meaning I have far more confidence in the water seal. I love my mechanical watches too, but quartz and solar definitely have a place.
I'm with you. People like to look back at the issued Subs citing there isn't a need for any quartz now. But no one who's life depends on time keeping is using mechanical or auto watches as their primary time keeper anymore. Those watches were used because they were the best they had at the time. Bond originally wore a rolex sub (in the movie) because it was the best all around watch with capability. Now, I do love mechanical watches and the connection to history but if we all could only have one watch the rest of our lifes many of us may choose solar. As a side note I think mechanical watches are much tougher than people give them credit for and could be a one watch solution.
Great to see Teddy giving solar-powered watches some rep! From this Seiko series, I find the SNE575 particularly striking. I think the pops of blue color on the minutes hand and 15-min markers on the bezel add both form and function, making it easier to check any timing at a quick glance of the wrist.
Man… I really love mechanical watches but I just became aware of these models (SNE569 in particular) and I’m really tempted to get one. 38.5mm diameter and 10.6mm thickness with the trademark Seiko compact lug to lug just sounds really hard to pass up. Also they’re very nice looking which helps a ton. Another freaking watch I want… great😭
I bought one of the OG's of this Solar Quartz Diver masterpiece SNE569 about 6 months ago and I love it more and more as time goes by, such a beauty and perfectly-sized watch imo!
Wow, that’s perfect. The lugs look like they could be a little shorter though. But considering the Eco drive, I just got my dad, chronograph midsize, it takes 11 hours of direct sunlight to fully charged, and it only has a reserve for five months, so this is pretty good. It must be a bigger battery.
I bought the blue and green versions this summer and I love them! Don’t usually go for quartz but these are worth it. Not many small divers out there. A winner!
I do like this watch and it catches you're eye for sure. My issue is they display it next to the turtle and samurai. That makes it hard for me to choose this over those
That’s a lot of watch for the price. The detail on the bezel makes it look much more expensive. And no day complication overloading the dial. White dial w black bezel would be incredible.
Great size and color options. The blue SNE585 reminds me of the BB58 a lot. I have a BB58 and just ordered one of these. No real complaints with these, other than the bracelet which will get replaced with straps and aftermarket options anyway.
Love my new SNE573. It's slightly smaller and lighter than my SRPD55 and the solar movement makes it easier to just strap on and go. I also like the classic (read: Rolex) diver design language that still avoids being a Sub homage. Great daily diver!
I’m use to 40mm Rolex 116710/116610LV but just received the 585 today, it’s a beauty, I have it sitting by my window to charge up. But didn’t pay close to $500.00 Can’t wait to try it out- I like the loud rattle of the bracelet 😊
Took a while to get used to the small size and the quartz tick, but now I love this black and steel version as the daily beater on a NATO. The chunky bezel almost looks like half the thickness of the watch, and combines with the matte black insert and dial to make it feel very tough and tooly for such a little thing.
Thanks for the great review as always. I do wish the lugs weren’t so thick on this, and it felt more like a 60s skin diver. I thought with those giant lugs that it felt much more like a 40mm+ than a 38.5.
Citizen has done exceptionally well with Eco-Drive, and yet Seiko was ready to abandon solar just a few years ago. It was said they couldn't compete and the longevity of the capacitors was inferior to the Eco-Drive. I wonder what's changed since then. Have they resolved their issues? I guess we'll never know, because a statement on it would be an admission that the first generation was sub-par.
Anyone know if it’s easy to take off the bezel and exchange it with another color bezel? Thinking about buying the black version and putting the blue bezel on it.
If 39mm is too small for your wrist, I would suggest considering the SNE589P1 instead. The 589 is 42mm, solar and has a sapphire crystal. It's severely underrated.
Own in blue and love it! Great watch but for(par for Seiko) the bracelet. Huge rattle at the end link which has to be some sort of design flaw. All that said, it’s comfortable and I’ll swap it once it is sufficiently banged up. Great review as this watch is not on many radars.
I ain't paying for $500 unless they improve their entry level bracelet. The pins came off so easily that i ditch the bracelet on my King Samurai and changed into FKM strap.
I’m confused about this and another one is A gradation dial to express the color of the sea, this Seiko Prospex Special Edition watch is designed to reflect conservation efforts in Antarctica. Style #SRPH75 Which one is best? Almost same price
Can you make a review on the Seiko Cronografer SSB413p1? There is no reviews online. I tried thr watch, and I really like it, but at that price, having a review from you to see its pros and cons would be awesome!
What exactly are the differences between the V147 movement of this watch compared to Seikos cheaper V158 Solar movement featured in the SNE523, SNE525 and SNE527 watch. I mean the SNE52s are about half price while still offering a Solar movement and saphirglas. Despite of the design, I do not see too much of a difference that justifies double the price
Finally a Seiko with sapphire crystal , Solar , thinner than any automatic, that being said I have one Solar Seiko as a dress watch because that sees the least use and is running whenever I need to grab it .. a diver , I have many automatics , so having a Solar doesn’t fit for me and that’s approximately 200 Cdn dollars more than I need to spend . Unless there is and awesome sale somewhere.
Great diver watch I'm actualy thinking about getting this since I really like the price point. I would give it an 8/10. But if I actually do buy this I don't want to regret not just putting a lit bit more money into a nicer watch like Omega/Rolex. The barrier is much higher though.
Well. I'd love a case like this, the lume, the pop of color, and a reliable Seiko quartz movement (not only more accurate, but much more robust and dependable if you're actually putting them to the test). However, I can't stand that bracelet, especially the clasp, and the hollow end-links are unacceptable. Give me a Citizen BN0150 level bracelet with milled clasp and proper on the fly microadjustment (not this flimsy diver extension thing from way back when), and I'd happily pay double for this without much hesitation. My hope is that Citizen releases something like the Titanium Challenge Diver with an Eco-Drive e168. However, the lug to lug on that is insane. So maybe my only option is the BN0150. At least I'll save a buck. But I'm really after something a bit more versatile in looks, not that in your face tool-watchy.
Come to prefer the solar over my mechanical watches, got more love for the solar movement than my mechanical seikos from my mech. enginnering viewpoint. Nothing with a mechanical 6 or 4R that impress me. Also, Im sick of the mechanical watch marketing, that people are eating up way too easily, its rubbing me the wrong way. Sleazy business, watch marketing.
Nice and comfortable watch. I had one for two years. My only regret was the hour markers finishing. I am considering now another Seiko, the Sea spb187j1. It has similar design but in 42 size. One review for this watch would be great.
Was thinking the same as they are asking only 250 dollars for their SNE523 or SNE525 model. Apart from the difference in design, the cheaper watch also features a Solar Quartz movement as well as saphir glas.
I own the JDM model. It is a fantastic watch in so many ways, but it's frustrating that Seiko, a brand I love, consistently fails to align the chapter ring with the hands. Initially thinking it was an isolated issue, I planned to send it for repair. However, upon inspecting multiple models in the shop, I discovered they all had the same misalignment. This lack of precision is disappointing in a timepiece where accuracy is paramount.
Admittedly they’re a touch more expensive, but the Certina DS Action Diver 38 feels a LOT more watch for the money. Very, very similar looks, way superior finishing, 80 hour power reserve in an automatic movement, 300m water resistance, screw down crown, much better bracelet.
This is probably going to be more for people who want one watch, one dive watch, or a grab and go without setting it. The watch will probably draw seiko lovers with small wrists as well. For the money you are correct. I like mine as a daily that I don't need to worry about with magnetism, shocks, or scratches.
I have many automatic watches. I'm looking at this Seiko for an every day beater watch. Quartz has a place. Not much point in comparing mechanical to quartz. Totally different application. And Have one Certina with a 2824, they are fine watches.

make it automatic, give it a save the ocean dial, and i think it’s more compelling at the price point. plenty of samurai and turtle models at a similar price so should be do-able
Is anyone else having issues with chapter ring being misaligned? This is the second SNE model i have received where chapter ring AND seconds hand is misaligned! I dont know if im being too pedantic? I own $100 citizens and cheaper seiko 5 models that line up better than some of these prospex models!

The fact that the seconds hand hits every marker is a huge plus.

Well said.
“Does not offer any extension system” as he shows the diver extension system in operation
I know I saw that! I was so confused haha
He meant on the cuff extension
@@deshik he’s specifically saying it in the context of diving, how many watches have on the fly diving extensions?
So true, like saying this watch has no hands, and showing hands!
Right? Maybe it's so flimsy, he doesn't count it as one!
And honestly, it does look flimsy.

I bought the blue and green versions this summer and I love them! Don’t usually go for quartz but these are worth it. Not many small divers out there. A winner!

I do like the 585 but am more intrigued by the 569. Curious if there is a particular reason Teddy is not offering that model?
Mine is running +1 sec a month. So accurate.
Teddy when are we going to see your own line of watches. Most start with a diver (Long Island). I’d love to see your interpretation of a dress watch.

Great review Teddy. Can you replace the band with a genuine Seiko rubber band? How do you think that would look with the green dial?
Thanks 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

If someone could pls assist that would be great

@@pcmountaindog Quartz absolutely has a place. I guess my point is I’m not sure that this Seiko represents a particularly good value proposition.

Nobody does proper divers better than Citizen IMHO. Citizen divers have actual street cred in the diving community.

Tissot seastar 1000 36mm much better....just not solar..HAQ...shock resist...double AR.. better clasp..and 300m water resist

Not at 10mm there wont be!
make it automatic, give it a save the ocean dial, and i think it’s more compelling at the price point. plenty of samurai and turtle models at a similar price so should be do-able
One of the main selling point of this watch is the thinness, which cannot be achieved with Seiko’s chunky automatic movements.
