I understand the advantage of the x3 telephoto lens, but for my own use I would not really use it. I'd be more likely to go the opposite option of the wide-angle lens add on. My focus is on showing as much of a landscape as possible, not to create a variety of perspectives. The improvements to the x7 telephoto would be nice to have though for my Mavic 3.

Fair enough, thank you for sharing your thoughts 💭

I have the Wide Angle (ordered with Mavic 3 Pro at release) and the perspective difference between a 24mm equivalent and 15.5mm at a distance is so minimal, I had to carefully check my footage to parse them out. I have the Wide Angle for my Mini 3 Pro, and my Mavic 3 as well (at least until I sell it) while your idea sounds logical, the results are not dramatically different, and many end up let down by these. I will say that flying in close to subjects, such as an 1861 Baptist Church, or through a canopy of trees, etc. Only when the lens gets into tight perspective scenarios, does the actual widening have and "drama" to it. Conversely, that 3X lens will take an unimposing background and giant-size it. This has been my experience, and these comments are from my perspective, to use a phrase.

It is true that the Focus Track on the 166mm is hit or miss. If you read the manual (you DO read the manual, right?) it says "Static subject Only" Jake Sloan made the same observation, but in fairness, doing tracking on a long lens like that is incredibly difficult, in terms of stability and the amount of processing needed. It works... okay on a high contrast, obvious bordered subject with a background that is highly contrasted, I do a lot of POI orbits on FAR flung subjects, such as towers, spires etc., and you will generally see a "lurch" as it starts to move - This si where the optics and flight control is syncing up - if it stays "visual" - with a box around the subject, you won't get great geometry and smoothness, but when it switches to the icon for a GPS Location point (any DJI Drone, with a visual subject, actually) - after a second, it with lock on like a mofo, and you will get that perfectly locked, subject in focus, background a sweet motion blur.
I spent hours experimenting with my Mavic 3 7x (162mm vs 166) and got to know these behaviors then. Now, with this setup? Its better in some areas, but the same in others. Note I literally NEVER use spotlight mode on subjects with the 7x - its too much and hard to control consistently. The 3x? ALL of this works better. My advice is learn the behaviors with the 7x and find methods that work, then when you are on the 3x, it will be damn near perfect. In fairness, we are only on the first firmware fixes, so some time will be needed for DJI to dial these variables in, and there are a LOT of them.
Have you tried the "Secret" double tap on screen to center subjects? Take a look on my channel for this - I found it on a DJI "Using your Mavic 3 Pro the first time" or similar silly video. A secret function, lol! I won't link since hijacking someone's comments to push your own channel is pretty lame. I guess I sort of did though, huh? 😉😛
    -take care Dan!

Love this channel, new sub! When using my Mavic 3 Pro when shooting a panel is it better to shoot in the 2X lens to get more shots or use the widest lens with less shots. I use the highest mb’s and bracket x5 and merge in Lightroom. I’m looking to blow up to 24”x60” so wondering what the highest resolution would turn out.

you're absolutely correct one of the things I was really disappointed about NOT be able to use the zoom in when taking still photographs !! I wasn't aware of this before purchasing the drone .. this applies to all the mavic 3 range I believe ..

The idea, I think, is that in still photos you can easily "zoom" in the photo itself in your computer. There's no particular advantage doing it in the drone.
