    Very useful. Missing however, is the difference in the bottom mold. It appears that the Motion will sit lower on the rack. There also appears to be a structural difference, since the Force requires a metal brace while the Motion does not need one.

    I have the Motion XT for my '17 and '22 BMW X5's. Used on a 3064 mile vacation trip last summer from Columbia, SC to Michigan and back down the Western side of MI, IN, MO, you get the drill and back to Columbia. It went through some thunderstorms and blistering driving that I am noted for and came out a perfect 10. No moisture of any kind entered the Motion XT, no discernable wind noise and no lose of MPG. I bought a small two step collapsible stool to reach up to the Motion for loading/unloading and off we went! Highly recommend. Looks awesome on the X5. I just bought a 2022 X5 yesterday and after new Thule crossbars, this will be interchangeable between each X5. I prefer the gloss model over the matte one, just looks more bling! Can't load pics here but it does look great on Dark Vader!

    Thanks a lot, very useful. I need clarification as far as the Thule slide bars. For both boxes Thule says it is needed the adapter 697-6. Is that necessary for the correct mechanism of the slide bars or it may be used without (and in that case bars lose their slide option and behave fixed bars)? Is my interpretation right?

    • @rackattack
      @rackattack  3 года назад

      When Thule or Yakima use the terms need/needed, those items would be needed for install if you want your items to remain covered by their awesome lifetime warranty. The reason they recommend those adapter kits is they were able to test them to make sure they have the strength to support your box and all it's gear.

    • @jonnybravo5285
      @jonnybravo5285 3 года назад +8

      There is a bit more to the Motion than aesthetics. It has better aerodynamics for fuel efficiency and the linkage system doesn’t strain the locking mechanism. It also depends on your individual needs and type of travel. For me, with 4 kids and a service dog the Motion fits our needs perfectly since the GoBags are exactly designed to stow. They are color coded and everyone gets their own bag. And honestly, if your gonna invest in a Thule product, why cut corners. Your making a longterm investment for years of use. Imo, go for premium and you will be glad you did
      Also, the XXL model has reinforcements added beneath for more rigidity

    • @rackattack
      @rackattack  Год назад +1

      Hello. The the two boxes will accommodate camping gear, skis or snowboards in the same way. Choose between the two boxes is best determined by price/budget, and the features that are most important for the user. If the upgraded gloss finish, the more advanced lock mechanism are viewed as an added value and still on budget, then the Motion XT is the choice, if not, the Force XT may be a better choice. Thanks!

      The cargo box in design to be able to stay on your vehicle all year. We would not recommend going through automatic car washes with the box or cross bars mounted on the vehicle, it would be best to hand wash the vehicle with that set up.

      Its more rigid making it less flimsy. Think about it, you get what you pay for. The company has a reputation to maintain. The Motion was reviewed as the #1 cargo box on the market. While Thule offers more affordable options, the Motion is the way to go if you like to travel and hate being cramped for space. Well worth the money today for many years of memories with the family

    Do you have an idea on the added car height from the bars + Thule Motion XT? I am looking to check if it would pass my garage door.

    • @rackattack
      @rackattack  3 года назад +3

      This is a fantastic question and a very important one when it comes to shopping for Cargo boxes. Generally the cargo boxes will add between 11-14 inches in the lower profile or "Alpine" options. From there it's generally 16-18 inches added to the height of the cross bars. That would be the Motion XT XL, L, Skybox 16-18, any Large to Extra Large Sized box. Cross bars are a little more vehicle specific and depend on if you have bare roof, raised rails or flush rails on your vehicle. That being said, most roof racks if you add 6 inches that should cover most cross bar set-ups. On raised rails the additional height can be less than 3 inches though depending on the brand you choose.

      Most of the boxes that we sell are for families going on road trips, or couples with pets that travel in the back...sometimes the boxes are used for camping to hold all that gear or ski/snowboard vacations. If you can fit everything inside then that's good but be careful not to stack gear so high that items could fly forward during an emergency stop.

      Thank you for the thorough review. How many MPGs are lost with these two Thules? Are there less MPGs lost with the Motion?

      All cargo boxes can scratch but with some 3m rubbing compound I can usually buff out the scratches better on a high gloss box compared to the matte ones.

      That's what I would use, magical stuff!

      Any box will fit on your crossbars, however some of the longer boxes can have a bit of hatch interference. Measure from the open hatch to the middle of the front cross bar. With that measurement, we can let you know which boxes fit without hatch interference. In most cases the antenna is a bit flexible and can bend a bit if it is tall enough that it would contact the box.
      You need 50-52 inches for a XL box. I don't recall the XL being an issue on your vehicle though, but even in store I would always measure to be safe.
