We'll, my 2015 A8L 3.0 TDI will be up for sale, I'm only at 50k, but before any of this jobs are required it will be up for sale. Greetings from Langley BC.
Hi, thanks for the video. I have 2024 Touareg 3.0L TDi (240,000 kms). I am frustrated with this oil leak that did not go away after replacing the oil cooler. I bought this car back in July, and the previous owner told me it has an oil leak that is coming from the oil cooler based on his mechanic (VW specialist) advice. I changed it with Pierberg brand oil cooler. The mechanic (a recomendation from my friend) who replaced it is not a diesel expert but BMW expert. It is still leaking, and it is driving me nuts. I suspect it is the valve cover gasket or maybe something else or even a defective oil cooler. Any help is greatly appreciated
You werent kidding about everything going wrong all at once. my CNRB touareg at 111k has needed EGR cooler, Water pump, and now i need to do a oil cooler and valley reseal. All within the last 2k miles.
@@coooooop15 I got them from a friend who got them from somewhere, just search up CNRB workshop manuals or Touareg tdi (your year) workshop manuals and you should find them. I can’t be responsible for giving them to you or VW gonna come hunt me down
I'm just doing the same job on a 2014 Touareg, once the manifold and egr were out of the way the short hose between the cooler and egr was puffed up and leaking, someone had put some leak seal through it, there are going to be some bargains for ppl who like getting their hands dirty.
They're not without significant issues though. I'm at 120k miles and will be removing my intake for carbon cleaning for a 2nd time. I have an injector seal leaking, and I'll be doing an EGR delete and valley reseal while I'm in there. Then I'll have to do the timing chain tensioner, as that's now quite clattery on startup even with 5w-40. Luckily that can be accessed without engine removal by *only* dropping the xfer case and trans. It's borderline manageable if you can do everything yourself, but if I took it to a shop they would say the timing drive is an engine out operation and ~$12-14k. Which makes these vehicles disposable for the majority of people at that point.
Love the video and thanks for the links. Question for anyone...I have a 2014 Q7 3.0 TDI Prestige too. My problem is that my coolant is leaking into the oil pan. I also have coolant backflowing into my turbo. I'm sure the heads and head gaskets are fine. Could the leak be coming from the same area as this video? Would appreciate any feedback.
I’m in Minnesota, you’re in Canada. I wonder how important that oil cooler *actually* is for us in colder climates. Which leads me to wonder if someone makes a block off plate 🤔 one less thing to leak again
Best video for this, indeed. I have a 2015 Q7 TDI that just came off warranty on August 31, 2024. Sadly, the oil cooler is not covered. I started having a bit of a coolant leak, which the dealer said it was the water pump and wanted $2,000. I took the car back and swapped it for $120 (FCP Euro). I was a bit concerned because while creating the vacuum for the coolant flush, it would not hold, so I stuck a camera around the oil cooler and it seems it is just leaking a little bit and there is some oil too. Now I know the oil coolers misbehave on this engine so I ordered all the parts, but the bolts. QUICK QUESTION: Are the bolts reusable or do I have to get all new bolts?
The bolts shouldn’t be torque to yield, so should be reusable, I bet that it’s the vacuum bypass valve, likely the one leaking as the internal seals fail, after doing everything 3 times that’s what was still leaking on mine
@@ThatGuyTyy I had to do something similar with a coolant leak with my Porsche Macan GTS, it was a $5 gasket from the thermostat housing to the block. I took it apart four times and by the time I fixed it, it was a quick job. It is just remembering all the sensors and vacuum houses when putting it back together. Where is this vacuum bypass valve you're referring to? I know the oil cooler and flange gaskets are known to fail, so I am swapping it all out before it turns to sludge.
Hey I have a 14 TDI Q7 and am pretty sure im having the same issue as im loosing coolant and its not showing signs of leaks anywhere else, was wondering if u had a link to that paper guide you showed at 20:07. Much appreciated!!
I unfortunately do not have a direct link as it was given to me by a tech and was just able to find a screen shot of some of it by googling (I don’t want to be responsible for giving a direct link to vw docs and getting the vw police after me) - just search up 2014 CNRB intake manifold removal ELSA or shop manual, it’s not too much of a dig
Thank you, this is just the info that I was looking for! You guys have not changed the plastic coolant crossover cover 059103525F on the back of the engine front cover. I understand the front engine cover needs to come off, so it is very involved repair. But other than that, do you guys think/feel/know/gamble this part isn't going to leak? I am trying to decide if I should.
What happened to cjaa content? You were my only guy on YT for that! At least, out put all the things I wanted to put on a tdi on one so an inspiration at that
you had chance to clean the manifold and EGR, Why not covered the engine holes after removing the T, You was lucky nothing fall off into your engine! good job
Thanks for the response my A7 is suffering from this just now and seriously considering giving it a go myself and your video is the first that has made sense so far. But would love a manual to keep me on track
I did the same job on the a6 allroad (CGQB). I had oil in the valley, I changed all the gaskets, I cleaned all the surfaces and I still have a small oil leak there. No problems with the coolant. So I need some advice. Maybe I should replace the cooler and the plate with new ones? Also can the oil filter housing leak into the valley? I have read that there are also leakage issues with this one.
Into the valley from the filter housing isn’t very likely unless it’s physically cracked I’m not sure if the CGQB has different components however so I could be wrong. If it’s still leaking oil into the valley my guess would be the seal between the place and the cooler if you didn’t do that one, but if it’s aged I honestly would just replace them both as most companies make an all in one replace of the plate and cooler and it’s way less likely to leak
Ive got the CGQB tdi in my 2013 SQ5, do you known if the seals set oil/intake is the same as in your links through ecs tuning? As ecs doesn't recognise vehicles outside of the US. Also your link for the cooler thermostat valve doesn't work. Thanks
I would definitely recommend checking your countries Audi parts page with your vin and just getting the part numbers by diagram and then going to ecs to see if they have it- I can almost guarantee it’s not the same cause vw is weird
Hey mate, I'm doing the same job on a SQ5. I'm having trouble getting that last bolt behind the charge pipe (the vertical one) any tips for it? I've taken off the charge pipe and disconnected the electrical connector. The SQ5 has less room than the Q7 between the front bar area and front of motor.
SQ5 with a TDI?? I would start by just removing the “throttle body” if you can get the rubber bit of the charge pipe off from MAF area to the throttle body, and then see if that gives you more room
Porsche repaired a leaking plastic pipe by the EGR cooler, as part of the extended emissions warranty. This is a 2015 Cayenne Diesel (CNRB) with 119,500 miles. As part of that repair, they had to remove and reinstall the oil cooler with new gaskets. Now 1.2 quarts of oil works its way into the coolant tank every 200 miles. Would an oil cooler suddenly go bad? I am thinking the gaskets might not have gone on correct or are mangled. Porsche refuses to redo the job, they say the oil cooler failed. Anyone have similar occur?
I have to do this on my cayenne. Did you change your oil and coolant afterwards? My concern is that there's a lil mixture while removing the oil cooler.
I will be doing the full SCR system save some more weight tho, so yes! I honestly should weigh my dpf and such as well to see how much weight I lost on the car doing the deletes
@@ThatGuyTyy for sure.. so a previous video you did the egr delete, but this video you removed then reinstalled the egr? Out of sequence or two different cars?
Yes, if it fills up enough it will run down the back and the front of the motor as it will spill out of the valley, but it can hold about 4L of coolant in there. And i would say if it’s not mixing in your coolant or vice versa is probably be the valley leak - you can typically see right down to the back of engine oil cooler between the driver side of the HPFP and the intake manifold with the egr cooler still install
Thank you very much for showing the pn and diagrams and torque specs. Real hero right there
thanks for sharing
i have a cnrb in Touareg, curently at 185000km and no valley leak yet, but sure it coming
Fingers crossed

@OmarRebaza the bypass valve is to the driver side back of the oil cooler kind of under the HPFP

Great video! The link for the bypass on the ECS website says it doesn’t not fit my 2013 Q7.
That is the exact one on my Q7, ECS just does a great job of not properly cataloging stuff - can confirm with the OEM part #

Yep take it back, sounds like internal oil cooler failure, only way it could be mixing, or the gasket separating the coolant and oil there have failed
I have to do this on my cayenne. Did you change your oil and coolant afterwards? My concern is that there's a lil mixture while removing the oil cooler.
I had to . My coolant was dark as there had been oil getting into my coolant.
Yes it’s a good idea to do both if you can afford it, most importantly the oil
I'm about to start this job on the a6...have you got a copy of that manual that you were using to do the job?
It’s just the ELSA docs online, should be easy to find took me like 5 minutes
I can’t post them or I’ll get in doodoo
Did you have a bunch of sludge in the intake to clean out as well?
Just after where the EGR pipe entered the intake yes, nothing too crazy, but a big reason why I deleted my EGR later on as well
None of the parts link work for me
Just checked them and they all work for me? Do you mean they don’t fit your vehicle?
You didn’t clean the intake manifold? Lots of carbon inside there
Mine wasn’t bad at all, cleaned my butterfly valve and called it a day
