Animation - The Beast Expression Demo

In this hand drawn animation demo I take you through my thinking on how I drew The Beast from Beauty and the Beast. I was one of five animators working under supervisor Glen Keane creating the Beast for the film in 1990.

About Aaron Blaise:

Aaron Blaise is an animation feature film director and wildlife artist.
For 21 years Aaron worked with Disney helping to create some of the greatest animated films ever made. During that time he worked as an animator or supervising animator on "The Rescuers Down Under", "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin", "The Lion King", "Pocahontas", "Mulan" and more.
In 2003 he was co-director of "Brother Bear" for which he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature Film.
After "Brother Bear" he helped to develop several projects but ultimately left Disney to pursue an opportunity back home in Florida. I started with traditional drawings. Though now we know about digital, I still do classical drawing as well. I just love a pencil, an eraser and a piece of paper. The feeling is specific. After that, I simply scan the pencil sketch and bring it into Photoshop where I make its concept design variations, as well as anything else I want as well as finishing the work itself. But the pencil itself a feeling of classic drawing always remains.
Great work. I love to watch. I still watch Beauty and the Beast a few times a year just for inspiration. I like to look at the lines themselves, the play of movements, facial expressions. It's all part of my inner happiness. I just love it.

I think that making a character sheet and using forms would help

Find a way of constructing your character from simple shapes, and do it the same way every time.

Try doing pose to pose if you're not, see if that helps
If you are, flip between your keys to make sure they're the same size before you do your other frames
(other advice comments are good suggestions too)
