Thank you for the great content, really helping me learn my ALH TDI. So appreciate you including the torque specs for every different procedure. Question- do you cover your custom CDR/ PCV vent hose system in another video? Would love to know what you're using instead of a ProVent and how it all goes together. Keep up the good work!
Clean head bolt holes And run a tap of appropriate size through to clean threads. I'll take a old head bolt and grind 4 sides on bottom, few inches up to use in place of tap.
Great video... I'll have to watch the other two because I'm dealing with the same problems. I bought a brand new loaded head to replace my old one. I have to deal with head studs that are already in this engine though so that'll be fun.
I found it’s not too hard on the timing belt tensioner to pull the stud out of the head, and install the tensioner with the stud once the head is on. You can take the stud and thread it in on the outside of the tensioner, and then slide the tensioner out all the way and tighten the stud a little with some knipex pliers, and then fasten the tensioner down.
I'm currently replacing the head gasket and installing head studs on my 2002 jetta. While we were inspecting the surface of the head, unfortunately all of the lifters slid out onto a soft surface and were not damaged; however, the lifters were mixed up. They all appear to be the same but I understand some things must be installed in the same exact spot when it comes to this stuff. Should I full send it or replace them all or is there another option? Thanks!
my alh is overheating regardless of all attempts to fix it, thermostat, water pump, coolant bottle.. still overheating, think a headgasket is needed to be replaced?
@@austinniemela at this point and when u said only on boost was one of the videos that convinced me it probably is , the car runs fine has power and no coolant in the oil , doesn't heat up or anything , been like this for a while I just hope it's not something worse . But at least I don't have much doubts on what it is . I like your Toyota build , your skills are amazing , this engines are really famous in Europe and really durable . Im not a mechanic but I enjoy learning thank you for your time to answer me 🙏
paul0afg081 thats exactly how mine was! Car ran like new! Only thing I noticed was the coolant system pressurizing! After your car sits overnight, open your coolant reservoir and see if there is still pressure. There should be very little!
Everything with the timing is reset before the belt goes back on! Buy the cheap tool kit on amazon and make sure all your marks are lined up before you put the belt on!
Hey man idk if you get many views or comments but I'm grateful for your videos.
Thanks! I’m glad I can help!!

Love ur truck build I need more of this in my life lol
Bentley uses Lucas Assembly lube on All their new Engines! Awesome choice.
How are you supposed to change the timing belt tensioner if your not pulling the head also? Jack the motor and remove that motor mount?

You get thicker head gaskets for skimmed heads.
Not for this diesel, there's not combustion pocket

How did you get the injector pivot clamp spacer on the head?
Hey Man very cool! but in next time try to move slowly camera!
crispy clean nice
Who did you use for your machine shop? I'm not finding knowledgeable machine shops out here.
My alh is doing the same =( only on boost , did the coolant go out by the breathing hole in the reservoir ?
paul0afg081 yes!! Do you hear air in the heater core as well?
@@austinniemela yes it builds pressure when the engine stops I can hear it if I pay attention
paul0afg081 yeah sounds like a leaking head gasket! At least these are pretty simple engines to work on!

Hi Austin, im currently pulling my head on my ALH right now. How did you ensure that your t belt didnt jump timing while your tensioner was loose?

Does the turbo have to come off to do the head gasket? I'm having the same exact issue with the overboost thing losing coolant
Jesus usually yes
@@austinniemela thank you very much sir
Do you know what size plug goes bellow vacuum pump ? In head
My injector started leaking after replacing the injector. Could it be because I reused the bolts for the fork?
nvmd just fixed it! thanks again I used a punch and tapped it with a hammer and tightened it nicely. Just gotta get new crush washers
