“Phytochemicals” just means “chemicals found in plants” (“phyto” is Greek for “plant”). So any fruit or seeds with no phytochemicals would be nonexistent.

Yes, but from a medical/chemistry perspective it could be unidentified compounds or at the very least unnamed compounds. We normally think of things in terms of vitamins and minerals, but there are other beneficial organic compounds. Not all of these have names yet or their effects are not understood. Consider turmeric, it is used as a popular dye or seasoning, but has anti-inflammatory properties. The compound responsible has been identified and understood, but there are millions of animal and plant based compounds that are unnamed or un researched.
So in short, phytochemicals can be a buzzword, but in scientific literature it can be a place holder until the compound is further understood.

Well done Jared Rydelek on your overview personal research of the avacado seed.
Today I was research tasting the avacado seed at the very moment I found your video.
I was tasting a small piece of oven dried avacado which I also had cut into small pieces. I also had determined it cuts like a small potato, had a nutty, semi bitter taste. Consistancy like a walnut or chestnut and with high note medicinal flavour of a juniper berry, pine sap or fresh artimisia leaves.
Definitely worthy of learning more about medicinal qualities.
    Excellent introduction video.

I had a friend who made beer. The funny thing was it actually tasted good. I've had a lot home brew by other people, and it was good, if bitter was good? The home brew my friend made was actually good. She made this Nutmeg beer which was good, that is if you liked Nutmeg. I don't hate Nutmeg, but this beer tasted like Nutmeg extract. She had me drink two bottles, and asked me what I thought. I said okay, but the Nutmeg was a bit strong. Then she asked me how I felt, because Netmeg was a halucingen. I got a little mad, and ask if she druged me. She said, "No, you have to eat a lot of Nutmeg for it to effect you." At that point all I could smell or taste was Nutmeg. I was angry, but didn't saying thing. After a little while I started to feel funny, but nothing I could put a finger on. I told my friend she should've informed me before I drank the beer. I went home, and the cold night air cleared my head. Once home, I felt fine, and then thought I might have over reacted. I called my friend, and said I was sorry for accusing her of drugging me. She was crying, and I felt horrible. Honestly, she was one of my best friends. I went to bed, and awoke three hours later with dry heaves. I had about twenty minutes of trying to puke out nothing, then I felt fine. You have to be careful of what you eat.

Unless you in particular have an allergy or reaction to nutmeg it would take at least two to three teaspoons to have a toxic reaction to it. I have a hard time believing anyone would put that much nutmeg in two bottles of beer! With all the other things that could go wrong with home brews I feel like some other component was a far more likely culprit if you did have a reaction that was that severe from it.

I just got sick for about twenty minutes, then I was all better. I don't think getting sick from alcohal goes away that quik. I was just thinking, "Don't mess around with stuff." For a minute, I thought you were my friend who made the beer. You are not her, right?

The fruit also contains persin, but probably in lower amounts, it's interesting stuff though, persin does indeed "kill" cancer cells, but the bad part is, it also mutates healthy cells into cancer cells, however the research indicates, that it kills more cancer cells than it creates for many types of cancer cells, but still I would not recommend using it as cancer treatment without a oncologist, persin is somewhat similar to those substances used for chemotherapy.

You can use fresh avocado pit shavings as a condiment for a salad. Ideally Hass avocado pit. It does lend an interesting flavor to your food. Its flavor profile is astringent, so that's the flavor you'd be adding to your dish. On its own it's ghastly, but so is pepper or salt.

A lot of seeds are poisonous because they don't want to be eaten. Peach pits for example have a great fruit around them but the inside is arsenic.

    • @davidonfim2381
      @davidonfim2381 5 лет назад +2

It's not arsenic, it is a compound which breaks down into cyanide in your stomach.

This was 2 years ago. Now, dried avocado seed is grated over cereal or used with skin to colour cloth pink. You can use the whole thing. I dyed my bedsheets, came out baby pink.

It probably would have been a good idea to remove the embryo plant before eating it after roasting it, like with gingko seeds. Probably most of the chemicals are in the embryo and not the endosperm.

Persin is also in the avocado itself. It's like a fatty acid but not quite. It originates in the seed and leeches out into the flesh of the fruit. Why avocados are no good for dogs, it causes stomach upset. Evidently there's weak yet still present evidence that it causes apoptosis (cell death) in breast cancer in vivo (animal studies)
We eat poisons everyday, a little avocado bit isn't bad. Eating buckets of the stuff isn't good though, probably not advisable to eat more than a few. Just like amygdalin, it's a toxin, but low quantities like that of almonds and sweet apricot kernels won't kill you in the low dose it's present in.

  • @koloblicin

I try not to even have avocado in my house. I like them but they're deadly poison to birds, and parrotlets are worse than any dog or cat. Cats and dogs beg and will get on the counter, but my little food thief can fly, and will attack and bite my neck if I try and keep my food from her. Obviously I do my best to keep poisonous stuff put away where she can't get it, but some things I just feel safer not having it in the house. Also, I can't believe some of the stuff people are eating as health crazes. Nooooo thanks. I'll stick to healthy things that are actually, you know... Edible.

I don't think I'll be eating an avocado seed anytime soon. To me, the only thing an avocado seed is good for is to grow an avocado tree or through it away.

A strong "tea" made from shredded avocado seeds boiled in water for a few minutes makes a very effective organic pesticide. So, yeah, it might well "taste like poison".

Your description of the seeds here and palatability of the powder+ the way that you described consuming the powdered seed alternatively (lemon honey etc) is exactly the same as this one- Im curious if you have had guarana?
usually in a powder (even when in amazonian markets), comes from a seed, the taste i dont enjoy or know of anyone who does, but if this means anything to you- it tastes like its really high alkaline content i.e. the way other high alkaline plants have a specific taste. I dare not say more in case you decide to review it and wouldnt want to spoil/unconsciously influence you. Whats interesting is that it has caffeine in it but it also has such a high fat content that it acts like a bullet proof coffee (butter and coconut oil blended) and makes the caffeinated experience smoother, less like a peak/crash type of experience, and more of a slow build with a solid plateau and slow taper.
    Just thoughts, thanks again!
