    I just ate half of one, was processed. Be careful! I got quite sick. Feels like the worst hangover. I got one from the same French co up in Canada. I used it to make hot chocolate and a creamy drink. I couldnt find ANY info on what is safe/whats not. I contacted them and they dont know. I was ok for 3-4 hours then sat on the couch and fell asleep for (2 hours!) sitting upright, thought I just shut my eyes for a second. I got terribly sick after waking. Today, the morning after I still am sensitive to light and feel "jittery". I didnt realize how much I actually used, was grating it on a cheese grater. Heck I got to say it tasted very unique, indeed like a nutty almond/cherry/fruity thing but the amount more than a few shaving is no bueno!! Great video and I was very happy to find someone else using one because the internet seems void of their mention! I wonder if the Chocolate Frother 'Molinillo' (I think) can be used in Coffee?

    The smell of cherry-almond is that of benzaldehyde (a flavorant very chemically similar to vanilla), while cyanide is much more bitter.
    Don't rely on that to prevent from poisoning yourself though

    • @ZivTheWyrd
      @ZivTheWyrd 3 года назад +5

      Cyanide actually doesn't smell like a whole lot of much. The alleged 'smell' of cyanide is actually to do with a breakdown product of Amygdalin (the cyanide containing compound in prunus species seeds), known as Benzaldehyde, which is often used in cherry candies as a flavouring.

    Im still a bit confused if the type of sapote that I had was a different type. The outside texture looks the same, but not wrinkly, and was much small and rounder. But the flesh was lighter off white color, and not orange. But the thing that really made me not like it was that the texture was like eating wet sand. It was unpleasantly gritty. The taste was really good, but the texture just made it unpleasant to eat.

    You might have noticed that the typical almond extract type of “almond flavoring” really doesn’t taste anything like normal edible almonds. That’s because it’s from bitter almonds, which are full of (did you guess?) cyanide. 16 bitter almonds can kill you but they are also so bitter that you’d have a hard time actually eating them unless you really had a death wish. They’re wonderful as flavoring in cakes and cookies, and the baking gets rid of the dangerous cyanide (it only takes a few to flavor a whole recipe anyway). Cherry seed kernels are also full of cyanide but the kernels of the Wild Cherry Prunus mahleb is widely used as a flavoring for pastries in Greece, Turkey and the E. Mediterranean. It has an almond-like but distinct aroma.

    Cyanide isn't much to worry about. Small amounts break down and are harmless. A large dose at once is needed to make you sick or dead. Edit; it was pointed out below that low chronic doses are dangerous. I was more thinking just in terms of making this video. Be warned!

    I Love your garcinia fruit reviews as well as the annona fruits the best!
    I'm still wondering if you have found or will try to find the Kokum (Garcinia Indica) fruit? (Not trying to be an annoying Indian XD) I don't know if it's just another name for the purple mangosteen or if it's another fruit on its own.
    veggiesinfo.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Kokum.jpg
    Also I've seen pictures of the Beach Mangosteen (Garcinia Hombroniana) and was curious about it.

      @@WeirdExplorer I actually don't know. I came across it when I searched on Google for "red mangosteen", and on Instagram.
      According to Wikipedia it says: "Kokum is an indigenous tree of the tropical rain forests of the Western Ghats of South India. This evergreen tree is mainly found along the west coast of the Konkan, Goa, Karnataka and North Malabar. The tree is also found in Jaintia Hills, West Bengal, the Nicobar Islands, and Assam."
