That's not unusual. Before the days of the mighty mixing board, every single choir could do live what they did on vinyl. Too many artists now aren't actually singers, they don't rehearse enough and hide behind staging and mixing.
No instruments...I've seen them 3x in concert...they use nothing but an occasional cello that Kevin plays. Even the megaphone in Bohemian Rhapsody is just a prop. He doesn't use it in concert
Imagine you’re just watching PTX for the first time now...they’ve always been insanely talented but they’ve polished up so much over the years. Loveeee
I just recently ran across the live version and even though I knew the talent was there, it's still a stunning realization at exactly HOW talented they are at recreating the effects in their video.
The three in the middle have been friends performing together since High School, and it shows! Remember that, not only are they this absolutely perfect in syncing with each other, but realistically, they're actually lip-syncing to their own recorded performance (you don't see any mics, do you?) Same on all their other videos, except for the totally live performances. That's pure skill. Please check out their 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.
They have 3 grammy's for other songs - Daft Punk is one of them, Jolene with Dolly Parton. The original co-founder was the bass in it. He left the group a couple of years back and has now gone solo. Check his stuff out, his name is Avi Kaplan. He has a 5-octave range. Kevin Osueolo is the beatboxer and also will add his cello to accompany them but other than that it is just them. They won the Sing-Off competition Season 3. They also have original songs as well, and they just dropped one the other day called "Be my Eyes". It was written by Kirstin who sang lead on the Video. Avi Kaplan is dropping his "Lean on Me" EP vinyl. It's worth your while to take a listen. He hit a G1 note in it.
I love this video, my favorite, as a youngster , I remember when the original was sung by Simon & Garfunkel, different time, different era, much appreciated, fast toward now as a grandmother I just love this version , using their natural God given voices , talents & abilities . Matt is the base singer & “no one dares to disturb the sound of silence “ they are all incredible singers I ❤️❤️❤️them! Your reaction”lord have mercy”
I've followed PTX since the beginning, and i can tell you, this is a sound that's taken them years to prefect. If you listen to their earlier works you can tell a major difference. Over time they've worked out the mic levels. Originally it was hard to hear Avi, since vocal bass doesn't have the same volume as say, a tenor. Then there was Kevin's beat boxing, he wasn't originally a professional beat-boxer... just some guy who was 'ok' at it and could play a cello at the same time. He has since become one of the worlds top beat-boxer's. Even with his amazing skill however, he still cannot be heard without certain equipment. He has Stomp pads in his shoes and in his jackets, and overtime their sound crew has learned to adjust his mic volume throughout the course of a song when it's needed. but it is 100% all them.
Need to remember that a lot of their earliest RUclips videos (2012-13) were shot at home or on the road with an iPhone for the sound and video capture.
The live version of Hallelujah from their Christmas special is a great one, Imagine really shows Kevin’s (beatboxer) voice off, and Love Again is another impressive one and has the previous member (Avi)
NOPE. Not one single instrument. That was all them. Kevin, the beatboxer did use a stomp pad to increase his feet sounds but that was all them. They do have a few songs where Kevin also brings his cello into the mix but that's about it. Even though Kevin is their beatboxer and does the vast majority of their instrumental sounds and back up sounds, all the others do join in sometimes with effects of their own. Matt, the one on the left, is their new Bass. He joined the group in 2018. Scott who song the lead in this one, the middle one with the blond hair is a baritone but he has a huge rang and can drop his bass low when needed, which is what he did in this song.
In your words Nasty-Just Nasty......such a great reaction. Matt (Bass) is just terrific. Here is a list of what I think you need to hear (like no one else as suggested it already if I know my Pentaholics) 1. Imagine (such a great message) 2. Hallejeauh 3. The Grinch (yo can tell the had fun with this one) 4, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies (all instrumental PTX Style) Also Superfruit (Mitch and Scott) Guy.,exe, The Promise, Rise And the old bass Avi: Change on the Rise. These are all some of my favorites, kind of like saying one grape was my favorite off a whole bunch. Just started following you look forward to more.
And Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies earned them their 2nd Grammy. Daft Punk was their 2st and Jolene featuring Dolly Parton was their 3rd and most recent one.
@@SpydaMikeHD check out some of the solo work from Kevin his KOvers, "down" and "sign of the times" are particular favourites of mine. Also, do not miss seeing Scott do the Red cover "tell ya momma on ya" even if you don't film a react, just check it out (Scott is a BEAST) also superfruit beyoncè and Rhianna and empire medley and Mitch's "graveyard" cover................aw hell, just pick a channel, close your eyes and click, you will NOT be disappointed 😀 Oh, one more, "new rules x are you that somebody" is one you cannot miss OK, OK, I'll stop now 😆
thank you for sharing your reaction. I completely agree with all of your observations. If you've not already found thid please listen to PTX "Mary did you know" - I think you'll be blown away yet again!
You really need to hear Sound of Silence by Disturbed... It's an amazing experience. You'd also probably love their redition of Can You Feel The Love Tonight, it's mind-blowing beautiful. Kevin is a world class beatboxer, he's considered one of the best in the world.
The first time people hear this group Pentatonix, 99% of them assume that they have added things, have instruments, and that it's not really their voices. I have followed them ever since I've heard of them, when they were contestants on the TV show called The Sing-Off. I think you should start watching all of their performances from that show, then start watching their videos on RUclips so you can see for yourself how they have grown as a group, as individuals, and that the talent has always been there. This group is unbelievably talented and gifted. And the only instruments that are used is Kevins' cello, that he brings out occasionally. One of the members Avi, who was the bass singer, left the group. But in 2018, Matt became the newest member and Bass of the group. When Matt is singing, Scott takes over the bass parts effortlessly. Sorry about my long rambling but as you can tell, I'm a huge pentaholic. That's what us Pentatonix fans are called. 💜💜💜
They have a live version,of Halleujah, as some people have said, here's the link to it, if you care to react to it ruclips.net/video/haFHrfmfHbc/видео.html. It's from their Christmas Special PTX had for TV a few years ago.
Matt is the bass singer and Scott held the bass line when Matt did his singing stint. As for Kevin well he's just sick at beatboxing, really sick, makes me sick he's so dam good🤣 lol they are just incredible all of them. Makes me wish I'd been born with a singing voice rather than just good looks🥴👍🍀😁
Kevin is the beatboxer, and yes he is capable of those sounds. There are enough live vids to prove it were they are mike-less. You should see the "Sing off" series were they started this journey, Their first single was daftpunk, that was when Avi was the bass, You also need to check out "the sugar plum fairy" "Aha" and Making Christmas. "Learn to love again" is one of their best originals in my opinion. The only instrument they ever use is Kevins Chello. Sometimes they invite Lindsey Sterling over with her violin, in Papaoutei and Radio active. Every thing they record they can perform live without a microphone.
Sharon Johnston I’m just saying you can’t do them both at the same time, one can have the ability to do both but I’ve tried and it’s hard to hold notes and beatbox
You should watch Kevin's cover of "Down" by Marion Hill (I think that's the original artist). You'll see him beatbox the *bleep* out of that song. You'll never need to doubt that he's got astounding skill after watching that.
Well obviously this video isn't live, so they've already recorded the track and are just making the video here, so you won't see them make every sound because they're acting out a story, but the sounds were made by them in a studio. But every sound on the track was made by them, most likely Kevin.
Yeah I’ve been to multiple pentatonic concerts and they pride themselves on not recording things they can’t perform life. And they perform all their songs without a single instrument except when Kevin plays his Cello.
You should do a reaction to the original "Sound of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkel, and compare it to the version by Disturbed. I used to think that my favorite version was the one by Disturbed, but after listening to Pentatonix, well, maybe not. I might have OD'd on awesomeness.
You would love their "Evolution of Music" or "Evolution of Michael Jackson". They are both with the basso profundo that left, Avi Kaplan. Another fun one is their "Wizard of Ahh's" with Todrick Hall. It's a musical journey through the plot of "The Wizard of Oz". The costumes are on point.
You should check out Kevin's RUclips video called cello-boxing. That is the way Scott starting vocalist found him for the group's appearance on the Sing-off . A 2011 a capella show. They won BTW.
Can you please do a reaction to gospel singer David Phelp's, No More Night? Ur socks will be blown off. The man is a simply supernaturally gifted tenor.

Kevin is also know for using anything to get the right percussions sound, so he was probably stomping to get that sound. Another example of this would be their Hallelujah cover, which is one of their best in my opinion, where Kevin uses a leather jacket to get a soft percussion sound.
Yeah, the guy on the right does all of the percussion vocally. There's nothing added. The guy on the left is the bass singer, relatively new to the group having replaced Avi Kaplan. I was only surprised that Scott started the song so low, but he was just showing off his range, I guess. :)

You can listen to every song they've ever done & they will ALL give you chills!!! They won ssn 3 of The Sing-Off in 2013 (I think it was '13) & have been going strong since. You need to hear Disturbed's version of this. Both the official video, which is very dramatic and the live version on Conan. They won a Grammy for that performance. David Draiman is one who has the voice of an angel and growling fry of a demon.
One of them did that, Kevin, beat boxer of group. That is their harmony builds and voices. Live it sounds the same..scary but true , you can look up the live versions. Try Daft Punk Medley, gave them their first grammy. Peace out love to all
Try listening to these groups with headphones. I personally prefer audio-technica M50x because they are reasonably priced and really open the sound with good depth.
Kevin, the beatboxer, uses a "stomp pad" to enhance the stomps. Its a minor addition but it leaves an impact.
I love watching and hearing Kevin!! He is totally awesome!!!
I saw them live it was LIFE CHANGING ❗🤯😭❗😭🤯 Tgey voices & bodies are they instruments trust me Kevin is the beats with his mouth & body 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I promise it sounds same live....All them only and 3 Grammys to prove it
"Lord have mercy"- My favorite reaction ever!
One of their points of pride is that they never record anything that can't be completely reproduced live.
That's not unusual. Before the days of the mighty mixing board, every single choir could do live what they did on vinyl. Too many artists now aren't actually singers, they don't rehearse enough and hide behind staging and mixing.
@@MerricMaker Yes. So, it is unusual nowadays. lol
Yep. Just the opposite of today's "artists".
All his percussion is from his mouth. No extra production was added outside of their vocals💯
It’s amazing what sounds come out of Kevin’s (the beatboxed) mouth.
I love watching people hear Matt drop that note for the first time. 😏
The dude on the end doing bass is Matt, who came to the group when Avi left. Matt is a graduate of the prestigious Berklee School of Music.
Matt's degree is in voice and he was in Berklee's a capella group and...and...and.
Translation: tall guy sing gud
I didn't know that about Matt... Damn. The more you know... :)

have you done disturbed’s version? if not, you should!
Dude your reaction is great. The window taking a quarter of the screen is bad. All I could see was light and a head.
No additions you heard them not a backgrond effect
Daft punk is another great one
Try Hallelujah, Bohemian Rhapsody and Mary, did you know. You will not be disappointed 😎😎
React to the Disturbed version now.
My recommendation: Swingle Singers: Wayfaring Stranger. Voces8: Shenandoah.
Try listening to these groups with headphones. I personally prefer audio-technica M50x because they are reasonably priced and really open the sound with good depth.
Everything u hear with the penetonix is from them souly, no added instruments
