  • For about one week now - passengers have landed at the new terminal at Kansas City International Airport. But now it's post-flight jitter hitting some travelers waiting to be picked-up.

No parking for more than 5 minutes on the Curb or get a $500 fine for Impeding Traffic Flow. If any of these people have been to another airport, they should know better.

There is no parking at the curb!! That has been the rule since 2001. I am arriving back at KCI Friday night from NC. My friend will be waiting at the cell phone lot until I call her . We both know I will be waiting because people don't follow the rule at the curb.

You are depending on everyone following the rules by doing this, i picked up someone around 11.45pm last night, and the pick up was full with people waiting for their passengers to come out, even though they know that is not allowed, as you are suppose to wait at the cell phone lot, until the guest you are picking up, have bags in hand waiting for you. I;m sorry but this was not designed well, and the guys in the yellow jackets and the cops were not enforcing the rules, i hope you have a smooth pickup .

They need to go and check Miami airport, they need to start towing the cars.

Also a much bigger problem when picking up a disability wheelchair passenger. Which was my wife. She was being brought to curb and told to wait.
And yes security officer told me to move which I did, drove around came back through, but lost my place where the ramps were, which near the crosswalks. No other ramps off any of the curbs but at the crosswalks. That's issue for disability wheelchair passengers. Definitely not going risk her well being out in the center lane, or anyone else's. I will file a complaint.

This is a major problem for kci and has been for 6 years now. People who park on the curbs should be given hefty $750 tickets plus have their car towed. Come on KC airport. You build a new terminal and have had plenty of time to train new traffic controllers for a common issue that plagues Kansas city a airport. One of the biggest problems was all the limo drivers parking and leaving their cars. This is where it started. Wait in the cell phone lot like the rest of the drivers. Heck I applied to the airport for a traffic controller but found out I wasn't qualified to move traffic along.

i see that someone didn't do their job in traffic analysis, all they have to do is look at other airports that are designed this way, I.E. Tampa and see how bad the traffic gets.
This is a failure of Airport Managment!

Definitely a design failure and management oversight failure.

You mean people parking for 20+ minutes and the airport not towing the cars away, right?

Ironic that the test run for the new terminal did not include the automobile cluster 😂

Experienced this yesterday around 5:00 cars parked at curb not enough traffic control and people in the left lane waiting on people then had to wait for them out their luggage in the car. Not a good experience at all!

This is why we need more public transit options!

Call me a conspiracy theorist but I almost wonder if the extra revenue from tickets for the city wasn't in the plans when they designed this knowing the public doesn't follow the rules 🤔.

They should of made parking at the ramp a reasonable price and make a bridge or tunnel for people to walk from the ramp to the terminal. at most airports people would just park and walk inside to wait for whoever they are picking up

Of course it’s the fault of parking, not the fault of having everyone in the same place, instead of spread out over several places.

This same problem is a small grain of sand compared to other larger airports. They have to put traffic controller immediately oh it will be worse when the high season starts

Simply don't have a pick up and drop off curb. Simple as that.
