bruh this has to be like the best japanese language channel ive ever seen its actually really usefull and resparked my motivation that i lost in the summer thanks TokuyuuTV!
Thank you so so much for your kind comment. I’m extremely happy to hear my videos have been useful for you!! 🤧 Good luck on your comeback to conquering Japanese, im rooting for you! 🥳🎉👏
These videos are just so good! I just started learning Japanese as a prep for a long-awaited holiday (and an intellectual hobby^^), and just seeing this series already gives me a way better understanding of what's to come. But because you always break down what's necessary for each level of fluency, it actually doesn't feel as overwhelming as I originally thought it would :) so thanks!!
Other channels with 10% of your quality have 10 times your subscribers. That's totally unfair and needs to get fixed immediately! Great job, very enjoyable content, especially for someone living in Japan and still struggling a lot with learning the language properly. 💪
Thank you so so much, I appreciate all the kind words 🥺🤧 the other channels have worked hard too (and probably longer than me 😝), I’m happy to take my time and just keep making videos 😙 awesome that you’re living in japan and learning the language!! It can definitely be a tough one to master, but just stay consistent and patient and you’ll see the progress 😙 wishing you all the best!!
This editing is great, and the content is even better. Absolute sigma. Thank you for existing, you give me motivation to keep studying :) Took a break for 2 years cause of mandatory military service which made my wanikani SRS go bonkers. Currently on the grind to get back to where i was😐
Thank you so so much for your lovely comment, monobean 😭🤧 ahhhhh damn mandatory military service for 2 years is a long break for sure 🥵 but honestly so inspiring to hear that even after 2 years you still want to get back into the study grind to learn Japanese, HUGE props to you 🥲👏👏 with that kind of determination you can definitely achieve whatever level of fluency you want. Good luck on your journey part 2‼️🥳
I am Japanese, and I find the usage of the word "tekitou"(適当) interesting. In fact, the dictionary is not wrong. Unfortunately, misunderstandings can arise from a lack of knowledge among some Japanese people, such as the man in this case. The word "適当" has three primary meanings, which are as follows: 1.Being suitable, fitting, or appropriate for a specific purpose or situation. 2.Being moderate or reasonable in degree, neither too much nor too little. 3.Being rough, careless, or sloppy in doing something, lacking precision or attention to detail. While the third meaning has become more common recently, it does not mean that this usage is the only correct one. In this case, the term "tekisetsu"(適切) is merely a synonym, and does not add any additional meaning. However, precisely because of this, I believe that learning a language can be a joyful and rewarding endeavor.
yeah it’s a really interesting word! i sometimes hear japanese people use it to mean ‘adequate’ but everytime i hear it i think of the 3rd definition now 😂🥴 glad a japanese person thinks it’s interesting too 😝
Your videos really give me motivation. I started learning N5 recently and I keep struggling to remember all of them which makes me wanna give up, but watching your videos really help me feel like practicing! Thanks for making such amazing videos! :) ♡
im really happy to hear my videos are helping you stick to your studies 😭🥺 it’s definitely frustrating at first, but everyone experiences it. You just gotta keep at it and you will slowly see all the progress you’re making. Rooting for you on your japanese language journey!! 🥳🤧

Glad you gave it a shot anyways and found it useful in the end! It’s such a simple application but ultimately it’s all about repetition over a long period of time to learn new words 😌
TYSM i moved to Japan and hubby usually speaks English to me. I was taking private lessons online with COTO but stopped after a few months due to loss of big income I had when I came here and hubby doesn't work. I had to scramble to get basic income and hubby and I had cultural clashes and I was blue (even though I am half Japanese, older generation Japanese men are a bit tough to get) BUT we are more peaceful now but your videos were the first of hundreds and hundreds to inspire me to study again, your videos are amazing! 99% of rest of Japanese videos bore me, yours are refreshing, pro quality, charming, informative, unique, cool, whole package, bravo! Thank you! P.S. I asked you a question on another video but I found the answer in a different video. Re: Genki book series good!
Wow, what a story! Sounds like a wild life. I’m glad you and your husband are peaceful now. I’m honoured that my videos could be the one of many to inspire you. Learning japanese will definitely help make living in japan more enjoyable!! I wish you all the best on your japanese-learning journey! 😙
I love the level of effort You put in these videos like all the scenes, transitions and text, it really makes it entertaining (and of course the topic too) :) 10/10 would watch again.
I'm Japanese, but I first learned about the Mariko Aoki phenomenon in this video 😂. If you live a normal life, you'll never use it, so you don't need to remember it.
I found this channel yesterday and I’m loving it!!! I’m doing the N3 this year and I hope I can pass it🥹 your advices are on point! Thank you🙏🏻 I definitely didn’t look for the 青木まりこ現象 before too😶
Thanks for the lovely comment, Haru!! Good luck on the N3! It’s still 5 months away, so if you stick to a consistent study schedule then i have no doubt you’ll do amazing 😙 keep up the great work!! 🥳
Thank you Jayprakash!! That’s so kind of you to say 😭😭😭 im glad you enjoy the skits - they’re def my favourite part to make 😝 im glad you’re enjoying my videos!! 🥳
Man how I wish I had come across such recommendations in my earliest days of learning Japanese... Trying to understand every single word is such a dead end. Never been through such a demotivating phase in my whole life, never felt so stupid, humiliated and limited either than when spending all my energy doing this...(except maybe when I took an online class in Immunology without having any serious background in biology...that was a hard blow on self-esteem as well)
I knowww, wish someone told me this too 😂 it’s just so tempting to want to know EVERYTHING you see/hear, but you just can’t pick up everything at once and need to work your way up. No need to be so hard on yourself - everyone makes these mistakes!! (And immunology is very difficult 😂)
Subscribed! I love the pacing and the vocab explanation with great edit. Enjoy Japan (indeed, land of animé) Hope i can learn japanese by 2022 🙂 Wish me luck!
Thank you so much!! 😭 I'm trying to make these as engaging as possible while being educational, so I'm happy to hear you like the pacing! Good luck on your Japanese learning journey, if you stick with it I guarantee it'll be a rewarding one 😌🙏
Check out "Houhou SRS", the problem with Anki is that it depends on the student whether he is honestly studying or not. We might sometimes make mistake and just say "yeah that was what I was thinking" and put it on "good". But houhou makes you type the answer and specifically designed for this Japanese kanji and vocab stuff. off course we can add items too. Must try it's free. also there is list of kanji and vocab so we can add them without going to any website to add them. It is like a dictionary linked with SRS.
That sounds like a really good resource! Definitely super helpful that they have a type in the answer option, and that they have it specifically linked with a japanese dictionary 😮 thanks for sharing!! 😙
I felt the same too!! I ignored learning kanji in the beginning but now i really appreciate how much easier it is to understand japanese sentences and new vocab if you know the kanji 🤧
Glad to hear my video helped out! 😄 Good luck on the N4 in December, that is an awesome goal! Actually being in Japan is a great opportunity to learn as well, you got this!! 😤✊
Ahhh thank youu, It means a lot to hear you say that!! I'm glad my editing is good enough to fool people into thinking I'm a big deal 😝 I'll keep working at the videos until it becomes a reality!! 😤✊
good videos! my sensei has the same problem, she is waiting to go to work in japan (since last year) they keeps changing the dates, hopefully for the end the year they will let people get it!! so good luck with that!!
One thing that I've used with great success recently is something called a "mind palace". Basically you just imagine a location and you store your mnemonics at various "stops" in that location. When you need to recall them, you just walk through your mind palace and look at what you stored. The best thing about the system is that I can review my vocab anytime and anywhere with no flash cards or apps. I read about it in a book called "You Can Have An Amazing Memory" by Dominic O'brien and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to quickly and effectively memorize and practice foreign language vocab or anything else for that matter.
How is this your first youtube video? It's edited and made so well... this is nothing like other channels first videos :P even the ones that are highly successful today.
00:12 "*actual footage of YOU if you don't watch this video" Hahaha🤣🤣🤣and "Don't be this guy" , 00:49 🤣. Such an informative video with great visuals and info based on (or in? or at? 😬 ~ English likewise 01:25 😜) your experience and research, yet so entertaining!😍🥳 Thank you Tokuyuuuuuu! P.S.: ...stop calling me out at 03:00 🙈!
2:03 Not necessarily true tho. I know plenty of N1's with a lot of reading vocab knowledge who can't understand a thing in Anime without subs. Knowing 10,000 vocab words to passing a test and recognizing words and their meaning in context through listening are completely different skillsets.
You're 100% right. It'll definitely take more than just knowing the vocab, I just wanted to outline roughly how much vocab knowledge is required. The importance of listening ability will be covered in a future video 😘 Thanks for watching my video!
@@TokuyuuTV I think the 逆 is true also. You don't need to wait till N1 to start understand anime without subs. I'm at N3 now, and I can say I can fairly understand 80-90% of the anime I've watched. Only anime with complex sci fi plots require me to use subs. Even then I get 50-60% of the plotline. It ultimately boils down to the type of vocab you're exposed to. For e.g. I understand 0 Japanese politics (neither do I intend to since I have no interest in it). Investing in listening and speaking related about your topic of interest from a advanced beginner to pre-intermediate level is the best (and fun) way to learn in my opinion. (Unless you're after certificates that is..😛)
@@meetthemasters754 damnnn super impressive you can understand that much of the anime you watch - I was definitely not at that level when I was N3! Interesting point about focusing on learning certain 'subjects' of vocab, definitely true that a particular genre will tend to use the same set of vocab. Could be a great way for people to expedite the process of being able to watch their favourite anime 😃
4:08 I am just screaming "YES! YES! This is the choice of the Steins Gate!". Thank you so much, could not start learning Japanese;however, your videos are very motivating and helpful
Thanks so much R S!! I've never lived in Japan but I've been there 3 times for a total of 6 months staying there. And no I don't have any Japanese family so I didn't grow up with it.
I just am curious, I want to master N5. But there are more Kanji in the vocab than in the 80 N5 Kanji. Shouild I concentrate on both Vocab and coresponding Kanji? Or focus on the vocab first? We need more videos from you!
great question! to pass n5, you don’t need to know those kanji that are associated with the vocab but not included in the 80 kanji for n5. thanks for watching my videos!! 😙
What about trying to split in vocab a sentence? If I try to learn vocab reading manga I always get stuck easily because words are mixed with grammar, or different ways to speak. By the way, any recommended deck to learn the most common words? Thank you!
Yeah it can be difficult to figure out what a word is when it's conjugated and mixed with the rest of the sentence. Definitely make sure you are studying grammar too, because that will make it easier to identify the root word. And some Japanese-English dictionary apps can tell you the root word if you type in a conjugated version. This might be a good Anki deck for JLPT N5: ankiweb.net/shared/info/391985566 Thanks for watching my video!
Can you answer this if possible Do I need to learn vocabs ( since I am a complete beginner at the Japanese language) While learning hiragana and katana?
The one I use is called 'takoboto' (Android). For iphone my friend uses 'shirabejisho'! Definitely really nice being able to write out the sentence in the app 😩👌
Ahahahah I'm glad you found my next video! I listed most of my vocab-learning tips in this video - since there is sooo much vocab in Japanese once you reach an advanced level, a big part of vocab study is just picking words up from conversations and through Japanese media!
I dont learn kanji well and basically I don't have systematic way of learning. I did like you said which i just try to find every meaning of words i dont know. Recently i used the word やってるinstead of やれる because i was a bit confused with its conjugation and my Japanese friends chuckled at me. It wasnt until the next day that when i Google it, i found out its a slang for something inappropriate HAHAHHAHAHA GOD THE EMBARRASSMENT
LMAOOOOO i love that, that’s definitely a very common word with very dangerous consequences if used incorrectly 😂😂 glad to know you have japanese friends to practice with tho! that’s definitely a privilege 😌 dont be afraid to keep making the embarrassing mistakes because using the language is the fastest way to retain it!
@@TokuyuuTV yeahh i think i have made a lot of mistakes so far like confusing Genjitsu as an illusion (thanks naruto) but it really helps me comprehend faster with japanese friends speaking full japanese.
I took a peek at your channel and judging from your italki sessions you already seem really good. Keep up the great work!! And thank you for the awesome support 😄
Hi ! I just found out your channel and i wanna ask :- Is there any way for you to help me come to japan through work visa without me learning Japanese ? If so then i will work for you for free ! I am fluent in english and can draw / write scripts / edit photo and videos and code in python. I am super unhappy in my country and my parents are torturing me so much so that i can't take it anymore !. So is there any way that you can help me move to japan ? I hope you will reply. Thank you !
It's taken quite for a while for me to realise that there are even words I don't understand when talking to people, reading and watching movies in my own native language. Do I google it? Nope. I just skip past it and continue my day as normal. Does that make me less native in my own language? Of course not. Sooo, same thing in Japanese 💁🏼♀️ Also: 青木まりこ現象 - most useless word/expression ever. I'll remember it 😂
Very good point to mention! We often hear words in our own languages that we don’t understand, and THAT’S OKAY!! There are just gonna be some rare/useless words in every language. LMAOOOO let me know if you use it successfully 😂
I think you here now, congrats. I am here too, near Fuji, I love it here, i love the food, esp sweets! Got here by marriage! Proxy marriage! I wasn't even in Japan when hubby married me here. I am half-Japanese but my mother did not register my birth on koseki and she would not help me get Child of a Japanese National. She told me I am American only and should get an American meal ticket hubby in the US like she did. I did the opposite I married a Japanese man and I am his meal ticket lozl! I have relatives in Tokyo but my mother is estranged from them, they don't speak English. I will learn Japanese with your tips! :D P.S. As kid my mom wouldn't even let us eat Japanese food, she would say Japanese food is only for her. She hit us and whipped us and terrorized us a lot too and because of that I hated anything Japanese until I saw Texan in Tokyo on RUclips (they no longer make videos) and I saw how cute and sweet they were and I then got a tsunami Japanese fever and got here. I can eat Japanese food now everyday and all day long and I am so Japanese food happy! My Japanese hubby often says "Good appetite! Sugoi!" Oh God its like Japanese food heaven here!
I’m really sorry to hear about your tough upbringing, it seems like your mother was very strict and abusive. I’m beyond happy that you are enjoying living in japan now and eating as much japanese food as you want after all that time of not being able to touch it. It’s incredible that you were able to overcome that mental hurdle. I wish you all the happiness in your life going forward, and good luck with learning Japanese!! 😙
From what I looked up, the pitch accent doesn’t change! But you should be able to tell based on the context and how the speaker conveys their emotion (for positive vs negative meetings)😝
If you’re using anki, I recommend 5-10 new words a day. With the vocab for review stacking up over time, i think it’s the perfect amount! I touch on this as well in my ‘How to become fluent in Japanese from ZERO’ video as well!
There is a sentence in Demon Slayer: Ore wa Kami, Omaera wa Gomi (I'm god, you're trash.) If you pay attend to subtitles when watching anime sometimes that makes help you. :)
I am learning Japanese as well, mostly through self learning. For people who are language enthusiasts, I suggest to try out Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language. In fact, it is the oldest writing system in the world. It is the most phonetically accurate language, unambiguous with no two possible interpretations of the same word. And why learn Sanskrit? It opens your world to a lot of philosophy, art, poetry, music, culture & spirituality from one if the oldest and scientific religious traditions in the world. Good luck.
danggg definitely really cool to study such an ancient language since it has so much history! My only hesitation would be that you don’t get to enjoy connecting with native speakers 🥲

ahahahahaha im really glad you enjoyed my video and found it helpful!! 😙 and yes, English is confusing too i know 😔✊ thanks for watching!! 🤧
Request video, how to remember vocabulary ?with metode which you use to remembered vocabulary ,please make videos about it
Hey Ubaid! I touched on this in this video where I showed how I would use a mnemonic to memorize the word 'gomi'.
Such awesome channel! I wish you 100万 subscribers :)
Thank you so much for the support, such kind words!! 🥺🤧 let’s pray one day i make it 🙏😝
2:03 Not necessarily true tho.
The importance of listening ability will be covered in a future video 😘
Thanks for watching my video!
Did you live in Japan or have Japanese family? That's amazing you reached the highest level of fluency.
Thanks so much R S!! I've never lived in Japan but I've been there 3 times for a total of 6 months staying there. And no I don't have any Japanese family so I didn't grow up with it.
my favourite mnemonic is for ゆ "you are a fish"
I thought it looked like a fish too!!!! with a sword poked through it 😂 i love the mnemonic, easy and effective 😝
oh man.. youre also using takoboto and todai.. those are super helpful..
Super amazing resources right??Takoboto is literally the best app 😭 right next to Kanji Study
Does the progression of your study go from completing Hiragana and Katakana to learning Kanji?
Waiting for ur next upload
What about trying to split in vocab a sentence? If I try to learn vocab reading manga I always get stuck easily because words are mixed with grammar, or different ways to speak.
By the way, any recommended deck to learn the most common words?
Thank you!
Yeah it can be difficult to figure out what a word is when it's conjugated and mixed with the rest of the sentence. Definitely make sure you are studying grammar too, because that will make it easier to identify the root word. And some Japanese-English dictionary apps can tell you the root word if you type in a conjugated version.
This might be a good Anki deck for JLPT N5: ankiweb.net/shared/info/391985566
Thanks for watching my video!
Can you answer this if possible
Do I need to learn vocabs ( since I am a complete beginner at the Japanese language)
While learning hiragana and katana?
i would focus on hiragana and katakana first! Then basic vocab and grammar. I have a video on how to start from nothing 🥳
発音がとても上手、、
声が好きです笑!
あはははは声が好きって初めて言われた、嬉しい🥺🤧
you deserve more subs
Thank you so much!! 🥺 at least you can say you found me when I was still small 😉
NANI GA TEKITOU DA YOooOo?!😂😂
01:58 Some day... Some day...
You’ll get there eventually if you keep going 😌🙏
I really adore your videos, I'm moving to Japan to study Japanese and maybe I'll cross paths with chuu hehehe
Wowww that’s awesome that you’re moving to japan - good luck on your new country/language journey!! Maybe we will 😝
I made that exact mistake with tekitou when I lived in Japan 🤣
THE DICTIONARY DEFINITION IS SO MISLEADING ahdjahhaksj
I love your voice in Japanese 😂❤️❤️
thank youuu 🤧 I can’t stand hearing it tho LMAO
Wait wait wait.. what dictionary app is that?? I've been looking for an app to save Japanese phrases, instead of copying them to a Google doc!
The one I use is called 'takoboto' (Android). For iphone my friend uses 'shirabejisho'! Definitely really nice being able to write out the sentence in the app 😩👌
Hi! what's the app at 4:08 please !
thanks for your videos btw I just discovered your channel and I love it :)
It’s called takoboto, for android!
Thanks so much for watching my videos and leaving a lovely comment 🤧
Sensei m jlpt n 5 ki study kar rahi hu but Chokai bilkul achi nhi h. Kya kru. 😣
Smash player got editing skills
Smash is just the side hussle ya know?
i will never forget the word for garbage again 😌
Don't forget the party streamer noise too 🎉
I tried Anki...
It wanted a pay version to get it...
Anki is a fail
what is the song at 2:05 ?
LMAOOOOO 2:00 made me laugh out loud that's so good
I used it as a joke but if I'm realin' ya, the thought of anime without subtitles was keeping me going
Part 2!??!?!
Just for you 😘
Whats the App suitable for reading for N3
you could use todai for easy news articles or read simple japanese books 😌
2:00 priorities right here
It was the only thing keeping me going through all that studying 🤧
@@TokuyuuTV now the real question is if N1 is enough to read oden menus xD
@@Lierbag521 The answer is a hard no, unfortunately. My food order at izakayas is always up to destiny
I asked for vocab and it's alreasy available. moree od vocab tipss pl
Ahahahah I'm glad you found my next video! I listed most of my vocab-learning tips in this video - since there is sooo much vocab in Japanese once you reach an advanced level, a big part of vocab study is just picking words up from conversations and through Japanese media!
Your Japanese is really good.
Thank you so much!! 🤧 i think i still need to work on it a lot, but I’m slowly making progress! 😤
@@TokuyuuTV It's been a long time since you've updated a video. How are you doing? Your videos have always brought me joy.
Most important part is watching the anime without subtitles. Thats why were all here haha.
it was the only thing keeping me going til i got my N1 😂🙏
2:46 Is that Takoboto? I use that too!!
Yes it is!! I love takoboto 😍😍😍
@@TokuyuuTV It's the best Japanese dictionary I ever had
The anime part got me😂😂😂
sho x tokuyuu ship has sailed 🚢
heuheuheu, no one tell his gf tho 🤫
Sneak in with the Olympic badminton team??
I was thinking Olympic smash team but I'll try both 😝
I would very much like to be fluent like you. Cheers for an awesome channel
I took a peek at your channel and judging from your italki sessions you already seem really good. Keep up the great work!! And thank you for the awesome support 😄
@@TokuyuuTV Thanks for the response and compliment! Please remember me when your channel gets Dogen - size big :)
Cameos of the real Japanese man Sho are the greatest
He is the greatest Japanese actor living outside of Japan imo imo
Sooo, same thing in Japanese 💁🏼♀️
Also: 青木まりこ現象 - most useless word/expression ever. I'll remember it 😂
Very good point to mention! We often hear words in our own languages that we don’t understand, and THAT’S OKAY!! There are just gonna be some rare/useless words in every language. LMAOOOO let me know if you use it successfully 😂
[after my Japanese mum made dinner one time]:
me: wow looks gourmet!
my mum: eh? gomi?
LMAOOOOO she must’ve been really offended 😂 so hard to give a compliment nowadays 😪😂
@@TokuyuuTV 😂😂we had a good laugh about it after but these kinds of misunderstandings between us happen a lot 😅
Dude… I’ve just started learning Hiragana and Now I’m panicking 😂
ahahahahahah it’s a long journey but it’s extremely rewarding!!
YEHYEHYEHYEHYEH GO HARRI
Shoutouts to you for the feedback from the first video 🥳
Does the pitch accent in au change with the Kanji?
From what I looked up, the pitch accent doesn’t change! But you should be able to tell based on the context and how the speaker conveys their emotion (for positive vs negative meetings)😝
@@TokuyuuTV 🤣 I am far from that Level😅
You’ll get there with consistency and patience! 😙
From this video learned to be careful when entering Japanese book stores lol. Jk. Great video
LMAOOO top tier comment 😂👏👏 don't be too far from the bathroom if you go to one 👀
Great videos, but how many words should be learned a day?
If you’re using anki, I recommend 5-10 new words a day. With the vocab for review stacking up over time, i think it’s the perfect amount! I touch on this as well in my ‘How to become fluent in Japanese from ZERO’ video as well!
I hope you make more videos, you are Hilarious!
@@DoktaVODKA thank you so much!!! 😭❤️ just finished making a youtube short of me and my coworkers hanging out, ill prob upload it later today 😈
I'm here learning how to speak Japanese so I can watch anime without subtitles and so my friends can worship me.😎
Where can I download anki?
On the Anki website! Just Google ‘download anki’ and it will be the first result 🥳
@@TokuyuuTV and, how is anki use?
Watch my video “How to start learning Japanese from ZERO”, i explain how to set up anki there!
very noice
Where we can watch easily anime movies without paying money?
Im not sure, sorry! Other youtubers probably know tho 😌
U can watch illegal anime websites... But it's a lot of ads n maybe there's virus
How well can I learn Japanese if I just watch anime? My takeaway so far is to call everyone Baka and blush before running away.
Sounds like you're already fluent to me 😮👏
There is a sentence in Demon Slayer: Ore wa Kami, Omaera wa Gomi (I'm god, you're trash.) If you pay attend to subtitles when watching anime sometimes that makes help you.
4:07 YESSS Classroom of the Elite lets gooo
