Perhaps if Queen Victoria had found it in her heart to forgive Bertie, or at least not blame him for his father's death, he might now have been so eager to bedhop, and might have been a much happier person throughout his life. The Queen might have been a lot happier too.
Phrenology was quackery, and I would be amazed that any child deprived of parental love and subject to such a rigid and loveless routine would ever turn out normal. The isolation harmed rather than helped this child. Not all the royals were intellectually gifted people. In spite of all this, and in spite of his later rebellious excesses, Edward VII did make some remarkable changes in the diplomatic and social relations between France and England. At least one sword was beaten into a plowshare.
Well this give Prince Charles hope for him being King. Anyone see how this story of Victoria and Edward sounds so much like the current Queen and Charles!
Imagine having parents like Queen Victoria and Prince Albert! Albert was such a prissy tight-ass and Victoria was in his thrall. She caved under his pressure for her to "behave". She had shown signs of having a personality and enjoying social gatherings before her marriage. They weren't bad people I think, but they were products of the time and their peculiar situations as royalty. I've never envied these people. Being a member of a royal family means having no privacy at all. Ever!
Victoria herself was prone to temper-tantrums in her early years Her relationship with Albert; although passionate was also tempestuous; until she learned to control her emotions and temper.
Well, many Kings and Queens can make mistakes and some can learn from them, while some of them don't. They're like their people and that's why we are here, on this earth, to learn about our lives and make decisions. Edward VII certainly made a lot of mistakes during his life time.
Stop at 11:44-What a creepy pic. Alexandra is looking at the camera, Bertie is looking at her, Queen Victoria is facing away from her, staring at a bust of Prince Albert.
There was another channel of which I can't remember the name, but it had a 4 part series made by the BBC and narrated by Samuel West about King George V & Queen Mary called The Royals who Rescued the Monarchy. It basically follows the two parts here, but it vanished. I wonder if anyone has any clues?
@MsTruNorth, The romanovs and the house of Saksen-Coburg intermarried through the centuries, thats why the windsors today share so many genes with the romanovs. So beyond the maternal kinship there was an herictical one. But both nicolas and george don't resemble bertie but their maternal grandfather King christopher of danmark, which daughters were all married to the royals of europe. All in sense are related to each other
Was Johannesburg High School changed to King Edward VII School before, or after he died? As a St. Stithians Old Boy, it is interesting that King Edward VII was an utter bastard!
Yeah, and check out how much he looked like his mother. Well, and his father-I wonder why that is,maybe cos Victoria and Albert were 1st cousins? Hmmmm.
Yes, Lady Hariet Mordaunt did step out of line, but she committed multiple accounts of adultery, one with the future King of England. One has to feel for Sir Charles Mordaunt. Lady Harriet's great-great grand-daughter seems to think she was the sole victim.
I'm constantly amazed how by many adults (like Jane Ridley in this docu) speak with such speech impediments, in this day & age. I also can't get passed the repeated "ums", halted tics & use of "sort ofs" to continue watching.
"Passed" is the past tense of "pass" denoting movement while "Past" is the past tense of "pass" denoting time. I stand by my use of the word, but will admit my comment was a bit snarky.

His wife.

After academically studying the British monarchy turned me into a republican, but I think Edward VII was a decent monarch (besides his libido)
As a child, Bertie had ADD.
More likely, he was bored silly !
King Edward's daughter Princess Louise of Wales.
Let's face it, his parents called it. The only reason he didn't bring down the monarchy was because his reign was so short.

RRRRRRRRRRIGHT. We have an even worse system.
His wife was seated first, next to him.
Hmmm shades of precocious ADD....

really, are your royals 'in postion' for only 8 years???
who is the lady sitting in front of king Edward at 1:00?
Princess Alexandra: Stand by your man...
can't the producer cut out all the "Um"s uttered by Jane Ridley? it's so sloppily done. sounds like they're lying thru their teeth.
