David was just as selfish and manipulative as Wallis and Ernest. In the end, Wallis married a weaker version of herself, someone who was completely self-centered.

In fact by the time Thelma returns she has taken her place in Edward's arms.

You don't seem to understand a constitutional monarchy. He could do nothing without parliamentary approval and Churchill, for one, would never have handed England to the Nazis. The very fact he had to abdicate in order to do what he wanted indicates the figurehead they are and not a monarch with any real political power.
@@susanharris5926 I mean just the fact that the media were silent on the whole Edward & Wallis affair kind of shows how much power they had. Many credit the King and Queen as an effective cheerleader and morale booster for the war efforts... They were also sent to visit Roosevelt to convince him to join the war. I think its a strong possibility that they at least influenced the outcome of the war. It would also make sense that just because of who they were that many individuals who wield power would be influenced by the monarchs opinions, either to further their own careers or out of reverence for the monarchy as an institution. If Edward was king at the time he could have always pulled the "nuclear option" and used his reserve powers which would have effectively deadlocked the government until they could overthrow him. I think the monarchy has more influence than they would ever advertise. Even Edward and Wallis interviews were censored during the war out of fear it would influence people, even tho he wasn't still the king.
@@brett6905 The media were far from silent. It was all over the newspapers and the news. The biggest influence to the outcome of the second world war was the day Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and America joined the fray. The monarchs are not supposed to have opinions that they state publicly. Nor do I think they influence that many people. The banks and in particular the City of London are calling the shots in Europe and in many other parts of the world for that matter. Their interviews were censored after the spectacle of them visiting Hitler in order to make sure they said nothing in favor of Germany. You have to remember it wasn't so much the government that was against them - it was the Church of England and he unfortunately as King was the nominal head of that outfit which meant he and the government of the day had to take seriously their dictates with respect to divorced. As you know, things have changed a lot since then.
@@susanharris5926 Not in Britain, the media never reported bad things about the royal family in those days. The British People were not aware of Wallace until long after it had been reported all over the world. They had considerable influence where the media was concerned. If the Royal family held no power and didn't influence the media, why wouldn't the pictures of Ed and Wallace standing beside Hitler be published? They would certainly be profitable. "Spectacles" sell papers.... The couple also did interviews with magazines, and President Roosevelt made sure they were never published. There is a strong case to be made, that Roosevelt wanted to enter the war but couldn't until Japan struck first. We definitely declared economic war on Japan first when we were supposedly neutral. I don't think we will ever have the full story of what went down, but its a strong possibility. Roosevelt strongly disliked the Japanese, and I doubt the UK government would have spent the money (and it was a costly trip) to send the king and queen to America if they didn't think it would pay off. Roosevelt loved the royal family. You say the banks held considerable power. I would agree. I was watching a video of Queen Elizabeth having her portrait painted in 1992, and she was talking to the painter and casually mentioned having dinner with the Rothschilds, one of the most powerful banking families in Europe. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but the Rothschilds and the royal family have been friends and business associates since the days of Queen Victoria. A Rothschild was Queen Victorias personal banker, her kids attended school with them. It is well documented. Part of being the monarch is you make friends in those circles. And being in with the monarch is definitely considered a feather in your cap in high society. Networking is a huge part of that family's power base. I think it was absolutely the government and not the church of England that helped oust Edward the 8th. He really was an unsuitable man in personality and intellect for the job. He was offensive to the establishment and a known nazi sympathizer. Wallace was the excuse to oust him but not the reason. The Church of England was certainly complicit but there is allot more to that story than him giving up the throne to marry the woman he loved. Why do you think many of the documents are still sealed to this day? I still stand by my opinion that George and Elizabeth quite possibly affected the outcome of the war. Technically the nuclear explosion ended the war, but for all intensive purposes the war was already won by the allies. If Britain folded early in the game, who knows what the outcome would have been You also didn't reply to my hypothetical.. If Edward the 8th had been king and used his reserve powers to shut down the government... It would have been chaos and absolutely weakened if not deadlocked the war effort. It wouldn't be a smart move on his part but it could have happened.
The banks held power then and now. The City of London is outside of laws that govern the rest of the country. Edward 8 was an immensely popular king and was far more amenable than any of his successors. He would have done a no worse job than the following 2. He had terrible judgment thinking that Germany and England had commonality and going there, but brains and political savvy have not been a requirement for the monarchy since Elizabeth I. As to reserve powers to shut down the government, I frankly know of no such thing. Monarchy in England is constitutional and is largely ceremonial and formal with actual political power in the hands of the government and has been since Charles I. Banks operate globally outside of all of this.

This is the problem with affairs. It's too difficult to be with one without thinking about the other. The great thing about not having affairs, you live in the present with the one you're with.
Ernest doesn’t seem upset that his wife was a mistress for two years. Edward would later be treated, by Wallis, in away that others saw as humiliating. There are men that are attracted to women that treat them harshly. These men crave it. Things did not go AT ALL the way that Wallis hoped. She played with others’ emotions and she too got burned. She was a social butterfly that died a long lonely death.
It does not even come as a surprise him being a well adored man being the future king. I guess he hardly knew one woman not serving to all his needs saying yes to every of his whims.
The abdication was one of those defining moments of history which changed the world for many decades to come, from what it would likely have been. Also if you reflect upon Edwards ‘playboy’ behaviour and that the fact that he was married to Wallis until he was 40 and never took interest in being king and always fought against the traditions of the establishment I feel like Wallis was just an escape goat for him not wanting to be king in the first place.
Unfortunately, life is not 'sweet and lovely ' all the time. Both these people chased the glamour, and life at the top, without wanting any of the responsibilities for anything or anyone except themselves! They got what they deserved, and fortunately for the rest of the world, Britain gained a true King and Queen.
This "great romance" infuriates me. I don't feel any compassion for these two characters. Plus they were Nazi sympathizers. There should be more documentaries about Prince Phillip's mother, Princess Alice. She was a woman of strength and courage.
Well I'm pretty sure most people aren't the king of England and abdicate over such affair and this is why they're making a fuss about it. Nobody cares about affairs, it's even known and looked the other away with other kings and queens during their reigns.
It’s so ridiculous reading that she could do nothing. Why didn’t she board the next ship to America? Why couldn’t t she just tell him that she wasn’t in love with him? It’s preposterous.
Priscila Magalhaes Times change, it’s inevitable. She could have used her intelligence and “charisma” for more honorable ends. Sorry, I’m not being judgemental just observant. She could have also steered him away from being a Nazi sympathizer. There were many women of that era that did accomplish great things without compromising her character and morals.
Those were different times for women. She definitely put herself in a bizzarre predicament. If you recall, any remote possibility that her abandonment could have resulted in Edward's suicide entailed grave repercussions on her reputation on many levels. A compelling reason to proceed with a marriage she didn't really want. Wow!
I worked with someone who knew the Duke and Duchess very well and he told me that she treated him terribly and would humiliate him in front of people and at parties she was a terrible woman and he was a very unhappy man.
I read something something similar and that he would cry like a little boy when she used to mistreat him in from of people at parties the gave in their chateau, or other places they were invited to. I think he was looking for a mother type of person when he married her.
@@newas233Historically, the royal men only needed to marry "well" but enjoy life with their misstresses, with discretion. Now, when they must marry, AND are expected to have no misstresses, that's when we have problems.
After seeing this, and the movie The King’s Speech, I feel the reason why Edward latched onto Wallis was he was terrified. He didn’t want to be king. He knew that he would never be allowed to marry her, and always planned to use her to get out of it. He had to act besotted with her so no one questioned when he abdicated, and I think he eventually convinced himself that he did worship her.
Honestly this has been my experience with love and romance. It always seems like people are in love with people they can't have or don't love them. It's sad. It's nice when people can actually "love the one they're with."
I think Wallis wanted security above all else and she was willing to go against her own happiness to live the life she always imagined for herself. Ernest says he wanted her back but eventually realizes it's too far gone and remarries. If Ernest was no longer an option, Wallis would have become social poison in America and especially Britain. Meanwhile, Edward is royal. He would always, always be taken care of. No matter what. Also, I think the Windsors underestimated Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother). Her hatred of Wallis kept them out of England. I believe both Edward and Wallis expected some form of forgiveness but their dealings with the Nazis sealed their fate.
What a twist, though at the end I can't help but thinking maybe Wallis never truly loved anyone other than herself, she was only seeking a spark through the different people that came and went in her life...
If she had really wanted to escape , she could have done it . She could have avoided marrying him if she didn't want to. Nobody forced her to become his wife after all... It was her choice but they soon became such an embarrassment for everyone !
Actually she couldn't escape. Remember, its because of her the man gave up the crown. She had to marry him and stay with him or she would be hated by everyone. She'd be the laughing stock of the world and no man worth anything would touch her during that time period. Also she was around 40.
@@finallythere100 Ernest was as much a social climber as Wallis. Neither Wallis or Ernest could envision that the king would want to marry her. Between themselves, Ernest and Edward decided the terms of the divorce with little reference to Wallis. Ernest was able to divorce and marry his lover without having to make any financial arrangements for Wallis. When Wallis realized that she could not become Queen, she probably wanted to stop the abdication process and stay on as the king's mistress. Unfortunately, things had gone too far and she was stuck with the immature, needy Edward.
How did Wallis make such a monumental error? Easy, blinded by greed and the perverse satisfaction of knowing that she had de-throned the King of England! A tremendous example to the rest of us that she had to live out her sentence before the world.
Wrong, she didn't want him to abdicate... She was flattered to be in the King's circles for sure, but she certainly didn't want him to be be dethroned. It wouldn't be of any use to her.
Edward VIII was a scaredy cat. Yes he loved Wallis but the primary reason why he abdicated was not because of Wallis, but because he wanted to run away, he never wanted to be king, he was too afraid for such burdens.
Well is that not a lot like Prince Harry? He didn't want to fulfill his role within the family.? He could have held enormous power as Williams closest friend and counselor had he and his wife been willing to work for Great Britain instead of themselves. The person a king or queen leans on the most often hold great power .
What a strange state of affairs ! Thank God ! he abdicated, it would have been a disaster if he had ruled. A weak man does not deserve the throne. Divine intervention has victims and victors.
Who's to say? I think Elizabeth would have still become queen, but later in her life because the Duke passed after his brother. She would be queen after her uncle did, and of course Charles after her.
Wallis didn’t mess up things for England. Edward said that he would have run off the rails, with or without Wallis. He simply wasn’t suitable to reign. I think George & Mary caused those boys’ stuttering and made life as Royalty miserable for their sons. Such a shame, but Elizabeth stepped up to the plate and hit a home-run. God Save the Queen. Whatever will life be like without her? The whole of Europe and across many nations shall grieve, especially Charles. What a falling off there will be.❤️
The UK would be better without the monarchy. It is an archaic form of control that helps no one but the "firm". The Commonwealth has 53 countries, the queen profits from but we see nothing happening when they are in need. Check out the Bahamas......nothing came from the queen after the last storm devastated the islands, but she claims it as "hers". One sided thing.
She might have been ONCE in the "high" social scene a "heroine" but that didn't last long once the truth came out from her letters and conversations claiming she WILL be queen of England! Dont forget her high ranking Nazi bed warmer whilst "away from david" in France while he pondered "what shall I do?" Then of course there is her written letters confirming her TRUE LOVE was the idiot American no.2 husband even as the mole was divorcing him and well after the fact. She was a forty year plus old twice divorcee, a gold seeker and a "royal title seeker" and as ugly as a horses face ready for the glue factory, taking 2nd best fellow idiot false king Edward nee david out of despair and making sure he and the British tax payers kept her in a sliding upmarket socialite upkeep until the old age factor crept in. She didnt even produce any children so one could say what a SELFISH piece of garbage was she...... if UNABLE to have children...... "Trapped in her French Villa" Oh Please. How anybody can feel any sympathy for this horrible woman is beyond me. Not just nazi sympathizers but Nazi collaborators we have come to find out. Seems to me that she fell out of "Love" with David when she realized that she would not become Queen of England. They were both despised and rightly so. The only reason David ever came back to England was to ask for more money.
She NEVER loved him....only used him for social climbing and all the money/jewels he showered her with!! But I do not think she really loved Ernest either......Both men were a "means to an end" for her!!

Obviously Wallis just wanted to marry Edward because she wanted to be queen. Things didn't turn out the way she wanted...and couldn't leave Edward after he gave up the crown.
She didn't want to be queen...she didn't even really want to marry Edward. By the time they were as involved as they were, he used emotional blackmail on her.
@@zzzbbbooo she said she didn't want to be queen because he was abdicating the throne. She wanted to be queen not because she loved Edward, but because of what she would gain by becoming a queen. Once she saw that he was abdicating, she didn't want to be with him anymore
I don't think she was ever under any impression that she could/would be queen. I think that she understood that if they married he would have to abdicate.
Wallis has been vilified as a social climber but, as usual, it’s far more complicated than that. It sounds a lot like Wallis mothered him and that was the root of his obsession with her. Regardless of how one feels about Wallis she certainly saved GB from this disaster of a king!
Having read a few biographies about the Royals & learned a bit about Edward, his abdication was a blessing in disguise. WW2 came along & he just wasn’t the monarch the country needed at that time.

All you have to do is look at the photographs or videos of the two of them together and you can see that she never really looks at him. It seems a bit obvious to me how narcissistic she was. She didn’t love anyone except herself. Your documentary says that she was divorcing the man she loved. But, if you truly love someone, I do not feel you need to go outside your marriage for emotional support or satisfaction. No one feels sorry for her that I’ve ever heard of. It sounds to me that she had isolated herself from everyone around her, most likely through her own selfish actions Did you see her recoil from his kiss on the cheek @ 21:42. Not a loving move. It was a repulsion.
Wondering how those letters came to be in Wallis’ possession. She wrote and posted them. How were they returned? One of the letters is one that Ernest wrote to his mother. One or two were written to her aunt. Doesn’t make sense.
I have absolutely no sympathy for either of them. They were cheating with each other. The king was a manipulative jerk, her second husband was a fool. She was scheming and hypocritical. Too many sleepovers.
I agree with you except in one thing - the husband was no fool. He was right in there colluding with them to get what HE could out of the situation, too. Situations like this had happened many times before for hundreds of years - an accommodating husband who looked the other way and covered a liaison was usually rewarded pretty handsomely. Pimps and Ho's with fancy titles.
I think Wallis wrote the goodbye letter to add pressure to Edward to insist her future piosition as queen. Wallis never loved anyone except herself. Ernest was just a convenient escape...bless him he woke up, saw her real self and found sincere happiness later.
Oh please. She wasn't forced to marry him, she didn't really try to get out of it. Instead of just telling him to his face she didn't love him or want to marry him she took all these back roads. Why? Because this is exactly what she wanted
This woman could have walked away, Eduard was not holding her in chains.. She supposedly cried during Eduard's speech of renouncing the crown because she realized that she won't be a queen, she stayed with him because of the tremendous ambition of the riches of the royals and she knew she was going to be benefited. She was enjoying the wealth, the glamour, jewelry etc..that she couldn't never afford it. For this woman to say that she didn't want married Eduard was an act, she wanted the riches of the royal life. She wanted the rich financial security. She definitely was GOLD DIGGER 😭
Do you think it was really like that? I have read quite a bit, and basically it seemed that Edward had a large entourage of people to keep him entertained and when she and Ernest appeared, he was totally smitten. That's how I see it. No matter what, my god that woman had fabulous jewelry which was designed by the two of them.
She was NEVER the wife of Edward VIII - that was the whole point of the abdication ! All the time that he was Edward VIII she was his mistress. She only became his wife AFTER his abdication and his becoming Duke of Windsor.
I had no idea that Wallis had tried so hard not to marry the king. Wow. To realise whom you truly love -- right after you've dumped him, and now must marry someone whose entire nation (and much of the world) will revile you must have been a nightmare. Many people who knew her at the time claimed that her interest in the Prince of Wales centered on becoming Queen. She never imagined that the Court of St James would go so far as to accept the King's abdication rather than see her next to him on a throne. It wasn't the man she wanted, it was his position, or put more accurately, the position she assumed she would have as his wife.
Oh I don't think she thought that far. But having an affair with a king is pretty big deal. I think she played the hard game and didn't think too far ahead.
there is a documentary about her collection of jewelry after it was auctioned off. Edward was bestowing a fortune in jewelry on Wallis, which cost the equivalent of millions, huge diamonds, emeralds and handfuls of rubies. And Ernest paid for the insurance on these items. I imagine her gleefully taking these items home, showing them to Ernest, and the two of them calculating the insurance value.. The Simpsons were milking Edward for everything they could get.
In the years while he was growing and his father was still king, his parents remarked that they thought he wasn’t fit to be king. His character was weak and the intelligence was not there. But he was the first born. His parents had incredibly good insight, he proved them right.
I think he was similar to Charles in his thinking regarding housing, and how the monarchy should be, but he was still a playboy who didn't have a care in the world till he was king.
Edward's abdication saved Europe from Hitler's devastating evil as Edward favored Hitler's point of view.

The English people should be thankful to Wallis , because Edward the 8th would have given England to the Nazi's
If Britain folded early in the game, who knows what the outcome would have been
You also didn't reply to my hypothetical..

I wouldn't feel too sorry for them. Not as though they lived in poverty, was it?

Correction - -she was not Edward VIII's wife, she was the wife of the Duke of Windsor.
An important distinction, indeed.
& who was he prior to his new title Duke of Winsor??????????????
Wallis got herself into the situation through greed and arrogance. As his mistress she was enjoying all the gifts and jewels she received and exerting power over others and enjoying that immensely. She was awful to Elizabeth who became the queen consort and then queen mother. She messed with the wrong woman and later paid the price. Basically she was playing a game that backfired on her.
I can understand this too but still..quite a story
Hmm...
Correct, when he was dieing,he called out for Wallis and she Never came, this was the account of the nurse!!!😳🇬🇧
Well said. Who knows what interlopers and bad people are in the Royal Family that are hidden from the public.
Does this not remind you of anyone. The difference being is that cringe couldn't get ginge to the alter fast enough. Like a little puppy, he followed, and still follows, where cringe leads. I don't think Wallace wanted to get away from Edward, I think she wanted what he could offer except marriage. She wanted him to be King, and she would remain his mistress, but could still be with her husband.
So Edward was deeply infatuated with Wallis, who didn’t love him, and Wallis genuinely loved Ernest, who didn’t love her nearly as much she did.
Sure, many marriages were of convenience. This one was a big one. Fascinating couple still to this day.
Love Ernest? Really? Wallace amassed AQUAINTANCES, not real friendships, especially not with other women, who a girl would normally turn to. Wallace was always about...Wallace. Ernest was, literally, the only ear she could bend...and she already knew how to play him...LOVE HIM??? SERIOUSLY??? This declaration could not have been ...safer. ensuring continual emotional support...Woe, poor me...
As kinky Friedman and Willy Nelson say::: we have careers in country music because most people aren't with their first choice.
Edward lacked a tender mother, a guide and a woman embodying this. Just as Charles needs Camilla instead of a young girl.
@@susannabonke8552 I don't think Charles necessarily needed a mother figure in his wife, rather someone on his level he can share with the things he enjoys like gardening, hunting etc, and also able to provide an emotional support and be his sounding board. An extroverted girl with abandonment issues who was extremely emotionally needy herself and couldn't stand life in country was simply a terrible match.
And with all his issues (and they are many), Charles has nothing on Edward. The more I read about this couple (Edward and Wallis) the more I am horrified by everything about their personalities. I really can't find any redeeming qualitiy in either of them at all other than he made the right decision to abdicate.
It doesn't matter how beautiful a place you live in, if you don't love whom you live in it with. So Tragic !!! 😔
Not even if one has 15 bathrooms ?? !🤣🤣🤣🤣😃😃😍
Or love yourself and not money/status. She thought she was going to get the title, all of the jewels, and all of the money. Because she never loved herself, she got absolutely nothing in the end.
That makes your home a very fancy prison!
True, but it seems justice when someone not nice reaps what they sow in life.
@@gammahinAz Oh please.. to be greedy and entitled is the most perverted love of self. All three initiated a game and they got caught up in it and destroyed by it. Earnest could have done a few things to turn it around (the press could work both ways) but he was getting Gold Card access to high society too. So he chucked her once they both got established; knowing she'd never truly want for anything. Unlike the millions of people W.E.'s "friends" (the Nazis) "took care of". No I don't feel sorry for any of them. You sow the wind, you end up being hurled by the whirlwind.---meaning you sow discord and deceit to get what you want, you will be found out and destroyed. Boo hoo.
Wallis and Earnest both enjoyed the perks and privileges that came from David. Ernest accepted that David's attraction to Wallis was not innocent. They all played the game too long. Earnest spent so much time alone that he found someone else and was happier for it. Fawning adoration is fun at first but the novelty burns up fast. Wallis not literally trapped into marriage with David. Its just that women of her set saw no prospect other than marriage. Her affair with Edward so destroyed her reputation that she had no hope of finding anyone else. She did not have the courage to go it alone. She did hold up her end of the marriage for many long years. Ultimately she grew bored and irritated with her clinging husband. She romanticized her memories of Earnest for that had been a more balanced relationship. I do not pity either of them for their marriage was an endless round of useless extravagance.
Rather accurate portrait of the affair

I’ve read a lot of books on the royals and read that one of the reasons Elizabeth didn’t like Wallis was that when they were the Duke and Duchess of York, living In a royal house, David and Wallis visited and commented about the large trees in the garden. Wallis told Elizabeth that she and David would have them removed when he was king.
She did have her eyes on the throne.
Two very lost, spoiled, selfish people. Edward was screwed over by Arch Bishop Lang, Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin, his family and most of all, Wallis herself. Those were the days of letter writing - they show in vivid colour a complicated woman, a multifaceted character lamenting the ultimate loss of her freedom and realisation of the true love of her life - shackled to a dull boring childlike man who never acquired the gift of charm, humility or generosity of spirit.
She got what she aimed for
O´Seas Viewer: You are right, but who tells us that the letters are not fake to change the story a little bit?
What her letters and behaviour show is a woman focused on herself, her own pride, her drive for attention and wealth. It does NOW shock me to find people interpreting this woman has the victim - "lamenting the loss of her freedom" and "shcackled to a dull, boring childlike man".
Seeing her as a victim is ludicrous. I have to really wonder, what is it with so many people thinking women are innocent victims, never responsible for their own choices and actions?

Except perhaps Harry. Maybe we should all give him some credit, and if nothing else put our money where our mouths are with regard to his definitely tragic childhood events, and leave him and his wife alone.

I read in a book that was written before he became King, as a child he became upset when other children said anything about his future role as King. This struck me as another reason for his actions concerning Wallis.
Maybe he unconsciously used the opportunity of his infatuation with her as his ticket to get out of the obligation to reign ? The feeling of being trapped in the wrong context/situation can trigger complex and powerful emotions and exacerbate the perception of being in love, more so if he person suffers from a feeling of incompetence.

He knew that he would never be allowed to marry her, and always planned to use her to get out of it. He had to act besotted with her so no one questioned when he abdicated, and I think he eventually convinced himself that he did worship her.
They didn't want him to be King either! None of them. Not the Establishment and not his parents...especially his father King George.
He needed her, but I don't think he loved her. He loved himself and the idea of having a strong woman by his side.
I agree she was a, manipulator
I think you forget the period in history. If she left him she would never be accepted in society, he trapped her with that speech.
He threatened to kill himself. Who wants blood on their hands.
Actually she couldn't escape. Remember, its because of her the man gave up the crown. She had to marry him and stay with him or she would be hated by everyone. She'd be the laughing stock of the world and no man worth anything would touch her during that time period. Also she was around 40.
She had plenty of time to pull back but she left it too late. She never loved EVIII. She got stuck with him.
and she never would have stayed w Ernest if .she had freed.herself from .the emgagement to Edward. Seems Emest.was.a.life raft.for her.
She tried to break it off with him many times, and he threatened to kill himself if she left him.
@@Vidya740 Yeah, karma for them. 😑 They torture each other by false love. (It was all about image and SM fetish.😆)
And hoped to be a queen
The old boy who stated that "she had a face like an old boot" was most correct
And incredibly crass and rude. I detest the ribald and hateful comments.
Just like Harry. He never wanted to be a prince or a working royal. Nutmeg is his ticket out and his opportunity to hurt and harm his family.
What a strange state of affairs ! Thank God ! he abdicated, it would have been a disaster if he had ruled. A weak man does not deserve the throne. Divine intervention has victims and victors.
No man is worthy of a throne....only God Almighty!!!
No man (or woman) gets the throne because he deserves it. There's not a merit- based selection system to select the UK Head of State.
Would of turned the world over to the Nazis. HEIL Churchill!
And so Charles does not deserve the throne

I gotta say Wallis was England's heroine. Edward VIII was a dolt and he would have turned England over to the Nazis.
Elizabeth's husband's father, Phillip, was a Nazi sympathizer and his sisters married Nazis.
Wallis ended up being the unlikely person who saved the UK, and ultimately, Western Civilization from the NAZIs.

She might have been ONCE in the "high" social scene a "heroine" but that didn't last long once the truth came out from her letters and conversations claiming she WILL be queen of England! Dont forget her high ranking Nazi bed warmer whilst "away from david" in France while he pondered "what shall I do?"
Then of course there is her written letters confirming her TRUE LOVE was the idiot American no.2 husband even as the mole was divorcing him and well after the fact. Adoption... there were HUNDREDS of kids orphaned in the period of her "meme" selfish life. She would fit well into the "let them eat cake" era. The writer is well into his eighties and remembers the "women and the wanker" well.... 1st hand not out of a book or news item.
Dave La Violette however it all turned out for the greater good...
And Meghan Wallis

Wow..you fell for the propaganda released by the RF that he was a Nazi supporter? How naive!
Wich he did not get.it needs saying.Edward helped himself to money and jewellery.he left George without enough to run on,and parliament refused to help.it was almost a schism.
Hitler trained in UK Tavistock Institute. We still believe lies, history falsifications. George, Elisabeth, Philip all favored Fascism. Dutch Queen Wilhelmina too. French Free Masons started WW II.
Obviously Wallis just wanted to marry Edward because she wanted to be queen. Things didn't turn out the way she wanted...and couldn't leave Edward after he gave up the crown.

I don't think she was ever under any impression that she could/would be queen. I think that she understood that if they married he would have to abdicate.
Oopsie. She really thought that she had it.
Amazing documentary. Thank you for posting. Amazing this is the first time I've seen this or heard the truth of this twisted relationship.
I’m fairly certain that the woman who voices Wallis in this documentary is Elizabeth McGovern (Cora Crawley from Downton Abbey)
I just checked IMDb and it is her.
Wallis has been vilified as a social climber but, as usual, it’s far more complicated than that. It sounds a lot like Wallis mothered him and that was the root of his obsession with her.
Regardless of how one feels about Wallis she certainly saved GB from this disaster of a king!
On the other hand, its quite likely the war would have been very different.
Come Camilla ha fatto da madre a charles
I recommend everyone read Winston Churchill's accounts of Wallis' life.
I see parallels in the Wallis situation with the Megan markle situation.
Having read a few biographies about the Royals & learned a bit about Edward, his abdication was a blessing in disguise. WW2 came along & he just wasn’t the monarch the country needed at that time.
I've always thought Edward VIII effeminate.. Wallis looks a bit mannish. Great match. He loved her and she loved her
16:39 'He is kind.' Reminds me of what Meghan said in her engagement interview with Harry.
I can’t help but see the Parallels between MM and Wallace Simpson and the way she treats Harry. They are so much alike!
Yes but look where they are now!
@@cabingirl1961 begging for attention by writing children’s books and releasing documentaries,I feel like one day MM will do him bad 🙄

This is a very revealing piece. It gives real insight to what truly happened.
“She hated him but she loved Hitler.” That says everything about ‘that woman’ and the little man.
I don't believe she would have "loved" Hitler. He was a squat uneducated man. Edward had class and actually, I read, that what he admired about what Hitler was doing was the building of public housing That isn't loving Hitler. He met him as did a lot of people. No excuses, but seriously, David and Wallis were not stupid!
@@nanmorris8188 Edward was weak minded. Had to have validation from her. He was a emotional mess with our her. He was a simp basically. I can’t really be convinced otherwise.
Edward or “David” was a hundred percent simp!

Wow Wallace the one who wanted it all. A King, the life of a Queen, and a husband with stability, died alone and unhappy. Poor Wallace.. Broke up marriages, wanted it all and died with just herself. Poor Wallace. Satan got his pound of flesh.
It sounds to me that she had isolated herself from everyone around her, most likely through her own selfish actions
Did you see her recoil from his kiss on the cheek @ 21:42. Not a loving move. It was a repulsion.
Good catch on the kiss recoiling....
Wondering how those letters came to be in Wallis’ possession. She wrote and posted them. How were they returned? One of the letters is one that Ernest wrote to his mother. One or two were written to her aunt. Doesn’t make sense.
Honestly, who thought theirs was a romantic love story?
Not I!
Not I.
Meghan 1
@annem2922 She knew what she was doing from the beginning even she was married, Edward end up falling in love
Wallis: She bit off more than she could chew: he "David"- was Peter Pan....with a vengeance. A high strangeness and dangerous game made manifest. 🌐
Sad that Edward couldn’t see he was being played. She was conniving and knew exactly what she was doing.
Sort of reminds me in a weird way of Prince Harry and MM…
Meghan Markle
Same thinking. Poor Harry
He (Edward) liked it, whatever it was.
She was NEVER the wife of Edward VIII - that was the whole point of the abdication !
All the time that he was Edward VIII she was his mistress. She only became his wife AFTER his abdication and his becoming Duke of Windsor.
“He’s kind.” I feel as tho I’ve heard that before. 🤔

You think? LOL
I had no idea that Wallis had tried so hard not to marry the king. Wow. To realise whom you truly love -- right after you've dumped him, and now must marry someone whose entire nation (and much of the world) will revile you must have been a nightmare. Seeing, finally that it was all a huge mistake has to have been one of the most bitter pills imaginable to live with, every day.
Joana, it's the price of sin.
sparky kitty hi there SK,
I believe that we are on the same page, though I do not frame her acts in "sin," I do very much, however, believe that this most unfortunate, sad story, which affected many, was a direct consequence of many very, very poor choices on WS' part. Among a number of other examples of unbecoming behaviour, Edward was the second married man whom she pursued -- not a screaming announcement of moral high ground! Cheers! ~jmdm
Precisely. She was a calculating, grasping social climber. She simply misread the room on this caper.
Agreed!
there is a documentary about her collection of jewelry after it was auctioned off.
