  • The overview effect is described as the phenomenon that space travellers experience when they see planet Earth from space for the first time.
This term was coined from Frank White's 1987 book of the same name and is described as an experience that changes the perspective of Planet Earth and the humanity living on it.
Fundamental characteristics are a feeling of awe, a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of all life on earth and a new sense of responsibility for our environment.
In the time when we took our customers to the highest altitudes, they reported the same experience, even though they did not fly as high in orbit. However, in many of them, a paradigm change took place for the life ahead of them, which they still live and report on today.
Here you can experience your personal overview effect, it is from a flight with the photographer Johannes Huwe from Germany in 2016, and it is the best shot in all the flights from high above with the view back to the earth we own. However, this detail symbolizes only a little of what the customers in the cockpit have all experienced. The barrel roll effect of the GoPro lens is almost completely corrected here.
English Pilot John Gillespie Magee (1922 - 1944) wrote a poem what is widely known by pilots and astronauts:
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of-wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air....
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark nor ever eagle flew-
And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Highest altitude for the MIG-29 we reached was between 2006 and 2014 21,500 meters. After this, they limited it to maximum of 18,500 meters (depending on weather and year season). Highest altitude which we reached with the MIG-25 was 28,700 meters.
