So a few things for some people using this video as a guide. The pan bolts require 70 in/lb of pressure and they are required to be put on in a certain order. Search for that in a Nissan service manual. You also need to flush out about 5 quarts of of fluid from the CVT torque converter and CVT fluid warmer. Do this by disconnecting the line coming from the radiator into the warmer and run the car to pump out about 1-2 quarts at a time until the fluid runs clear. The CVT warmer, with the paper filter being replaced, is shown at 9:28. The entire trans holds about 8 quarts. Some people have asked what the last step is for... That second drain plug is how you determine if the trans has enough fluid in it when the fluid temperature is about 113 to 120 degrees F (about 45 C) . Notice he added fluid until it ran out of that hole and then waited until it was slowing streaming out. Once the fluid is slowing streaming out of that hole the fluid level is good.

@@Eddie510s Old fluid. Take note of how the old fluid looks more brown than the new. You will then know when you have flushed and removed all of the old.

So if a factory service manual is available to the public, and it is free.... ...then these video tutorials are irrelevant. Make a RUclips video showing all how to get the factory service manual.. .. and that will answer ALL questions. Right ??

Thank you for this video good sir. Very well made video and a very clean n professional job you performed. although for your safety disposable gloves would benefit your health the benzene alone in gasoline n tranny fluid may get very toxic with years of continues direct contact on your skin.

this procedure is prob a bit much for most, the easier route is to take out plug, drain in a measured container then fill up what you lost with fresh ns3, this will then mix with the rest of the fluid in the sealed transmission box and you're effectively refreshing by about 50%. If you wanted later after the old and new ns3 mixed, you could repeat the process and achieve a 75% refresh.
That is a great way to refresh fluid. Only down side of it is no new strainer and warmer filter

I have a 2013 nissan maxima I called the Nissan dealership asking for a fluid and filter change. I was told the cvt doesn't have a filter then he goes to say it doesn't have a serviceable filter. Like what, I'm confused. Can I change fluid without changing filter?
did you turn the car on when you pulled the second drain plug to check fluid level so fluid was at temp? curious because im about to be doing this job
This seems to get-around the design defect: Keep 'em cool as many ways of reduced coolant/distilled water ratios, both filters and best cvt fluid each 30k, allow set overnight or allow 8 hours for full warm drain to obtain around 5.5 quarts if not flushing, seal all air leaks of radiator plenum (Time -consuming), keep radiators clean. I'm now 209k Mojave hard-and-hot conditions, full AC

when i look up 31728-28X0A it doesn't list maxima at all in the fitment list - this is 100% the right part # ?
also USA maxima is 7th gen 2009-2015 and 8th gen 2016-2023 but this video says 2013-2019 ...can someone explain this?

I bought mine used, a couple of weeks ago. The first thing a friend of mine asked, who is a mechanic, was how many miles does it have on it. I told him 50k. He said i needed to do a drain and fill. Not a flush. Of course, I'm gonna change the filters too. So, I started looking around. Everything I read said between 30k and 60k it needs done. Honestly, I see no point in changing the fluid of you don't change the filters also.
Would replacing the filters and oil with new ones cause for it to not shift st all? Getting codes P0868 (low pressure) and P0826 (up/down shift switch)

When you are finishing up with that 2nd drain plug removed, on the other part of the CVT, are you running the engine? I ask this because it seems like I hear a motor running when you did it. But it might be from another car.

Sir after you change 2 filter add 4.3 litres of cvt fluid after that start the engine and remove 14mm bolt to measure the exact amount of fluid.

There is a discussion here, the authorized service cvt says no oil change is required, but special service masters recommend changing it at 60 thousand km. What is the situation in your country? Sir, here we change every 60000 miles in fact I changed last week the automatic transmission fluid of the nissan Pathfinder that is one of the xtronic cvt transmissions remember sir all xtronic cvt transmissions only NS3 should be used thank you.

This will be slightly different from my 2013 mine filter like 2012 also does it have rtv or it's paper gasket for the transmission oil pan ?
The pan gasket is a rubber / metal gasket like all of the high quality ones now.

Hello, please if you can help me with a question, I have a 2017 maxima, yesterday I went to buy transmission oil and they sold me "castrol transmax import multi-vehicle" which I already put in my vehicle, now I did This since I was checking the fluids of my car and I noticed that it did not even mark on the dipstick, now I just found out that my vehicle originally came only with the dipstick cover but not with the full dipstick because it has a new technology that uses less oil, without knowing I added 1/4 of a gallon of castrol oil, my question is: will I have any problem? What do you recommend me to do? It is worth mentioning that as you will know, the car has a cvt transmission and the castrol oil is not specifically cvt, thank you in advance for your help.

@@VentureWelding I was thinking the same thing... WTF? If this car is still running take it to a mechanic right away and tell him what you did, show him the bottle of oil you put in and then ask him to do it properly using the right fluid... If you put in 1/4 of a gallon of extra fluid the CVT is probably damaged. Hopefully not though.
I think you mean the castrol oil is a transmission fluid meant for Automatic transmissions with gears instead of a CVT. You should definitely use the proper CVT fluid for that transmission, since not doing so could damage it prematurely. Go to a mechanic that you trust, preferably one that has worked on CVTs before, and get him to flush and fill it with the proper fluid. Better yet, show him the fluid you put in it and let him work on it, DONT drive it anymore than you absolutely need to

I just did this job yesterday, and I had gotten some of the NS3 in my glove and my skin burned and I washed that shit off immediately.

@@RGAutoVlog no its not.....the 2010-2014 I know for sure now only has 1 exterior filter located just behind the driverside wheel well liner and no interior filter at all just a screen......
This title is deceiving to viewers as I purchased everything in your description for my 2014 and to my surprise when I get under there to do the job all the wrong parts. Ultimately it's my fault for not checking 1st but still should adjust the title.....

That’s how he checked the fluid level there’s no dipstick so he poured fluid in till it came out then he let it stop and now it’s at the right amount

@@Cheapbuilds808 The service manual states you should check and adjust the level of the CVT fluid while the car is idling. Be sure to move the gear shifter from P to Ds and back to park stopping at each gear for 5 seconds.

So the CVT is not completely sealed like people have been saying all these years.
Well clearly it’s sealed but it’s no different than any other component within your engine. 1. Oil (SEALED) 2. Air box (SEALED) 3. Fluid’s such as power steering, engine oil, coolant etc (SEALED) … You get it. In short YES the CVT is in fact sealed up but you can see here all you have to do is remove the cover.

Actually i have changed this gear pan 3 times on my altima 2013. Cause it gets hit on the ground. Altima 2013 doesnt have a cover like what this car have which protects the pan from being hit. Worst design nissan.... wasted alot of money for this crap

Heck NO do not flush it out. Almost a guarantee it will mess it up. A mechanic friend of mine told not to do a flush. Absolutely a NO
@@AdamMargie4ever I am confised also, some people say the flush us bad and Motul service that I am changin my oil at is telling me otherwise, Motul is even guarantees that no issue will happen as they use Motul EVO machine. Don't know what to do frankly, flush it or not.
