    Great video Mike. When I had my 1943 P.E. 75 apart, I didn't want to have any blow by problems with the valve seats so I went ahead and ground them and the valves. They are just a 45 degree grind. I also found the correct spark plug for the engine and that worked wonders for cold start ups.
    My generator can sit for months at a time and fire up with just two pulls of the rip-chord. It is shown running in several videos that I made on my channel. Keep up the good work, gonna keep following this build.

    Great video. A blocked bowl vent will cause flooding like that. The fuel will be forced through the emulation tube instead of filling the bowl. The float will never float. If vented, it will seat (may still leak a little until you rebuild). Just had the same issue. Was flooding like crazy. Needle, seat and float all tested well. Cleared the vent and all was good.

    Good video. To fix the problem of an over torqued, or rusted, needle, you could chuck the damaged needle in a drill or lathe, by inserting them into a snug piece of neoprene tube (to protect the threads), and then spin the needle on a fine file, or fine crocus cloth glued to a flat surface. It works like magic, and saves having to ginf needles to fit oddball carbs. I have a small lathe I use, but just clamping an ordinary drill to the workbench would work judy as well. I have also done that in an emergency.

    Been using an ultrasonic cleaner for over 15 years now, and I've come up with 2 things, a mix I sware by, and from small engine saloon, using a plastic mayo big mouth jar, ok my mix is 50% simple green PURPLE, has to be purple, 25% white distilled vinegar, and 25%baby water IE distilled water, heat up the mixture first to 50c, then turn off the heat, put the carb in the heated mixture, and that carb comes out completely clean and new looking polished even, just fill the ultrasonic cleaner with regular tap water, place the mayo wide mouth jar with the liquid mix in it and the carb parts into the water, heat it all up, then turn the heat off, so the ultrasonic part has full power, and you will love the results..... Great video BTW.

    • @nicknersinger7156
      @nicknersinger7156 Год назад

      And what about those compression:release valves?are they needed?I worked hard to get the BR6 running, It might have fired 10 revolutions,and wore out my shoulder with the pull rope.

  • @tim_bbq1008
    @tim_bbq1008 3 года назад +2

    you know, That would have started on the first pull for RoadKing. Haha, just teasing...
    Perhaps the tab on the float needs to be bent slightly to push the inlet needle further into the seat? Or maybe the gasket near the bowl vent needs to be removed to allow the float to raise just a little further? If the there is a slight 'bubble' in the gasket it may prevent full travel of the float? Just a couple ideas to check out...

    Well, you persevered, so we persevered! Stopped off once for coffee about half way, but we put it in 'Park' until we were ready to set off again, and saw it through to the end - Long videos are fine by us!
    I certainly applaud you tenacity at the end. I could think of plenty of folk who would resort using a drill to start that engine, which is fine, but it can have consequences that are not desirable.
    Let's see what happens in the next instalment, no doubt the carb rebuild will skew the test results a bit, but if it won't start as is, then there's nothing get any horsepower figures from in the first place. Did you test the compression pressure before the attempted start? Just a thought, but it would be interesting to see if pressure changed after a run.

  • @wilco3588
    @wilco3588 3 года назад

    A couple old tricks I've been taught if you can't find new needle and seat sometimes you can tap on the needle into the seat establish a new sealing surface or use some metal Polish or jeweler's rouge and spin the needle into the seat to try the stablish a lapped seal.
    Might also work in trying to take the steps out of over tightened high speed and low speed needles.
    When it comes to spark i use a adjustable spark checker. I never trust spark plugs even new and sometimes.

      That Cummins Generator for a Mega Store 'Refrigeration Plant', in similar to a BJ's, Costco etc. That 1.6M has plenty of power, it screams wanting more load.
      Myself involved with interesting stuff, whereas I take a Briggs over a Honda any day of the week.
      Don't tinker in home workshop much. Will keep my 'little work' bench for Grandkids.
      Sadly many schools did away with shop classes, it's important to give kid's a taste of a workshop. It's sad the amount of kids that cannot change a tube on their bicycle, neither raise handle-bar nor seat.
      Many kids [adolescents] not interested in workshop fundamentals, they find it unbecoming, though they're a few that bite, whereas I will fuel their enthusiasm, in giving back.

    Persistence pays! Now you you know it does run, and you know why i was hard to start as well as why it quit. Time well spent; just need some new parts.

    I think you have found a motor that’s not willing to work with you. But with your persistence, you shall prevail! It was a long one.
