My mama made these when I was little but I never could quite remember her recipe so thank you for sharing and I miss you!!! I've been worried but read you are taking a break. Glad you are okay!!!
Miss chris this is a great recipe I do remember my mom making this with salmon and Mackerel its so delicious I'm gonna make me some this week happy cooking and thanks for bringing back memories 😃👋❤🙏👍
How in the world do you always know what I been wanting to learn how to make. This is the third time you’ve read my mind. Love it. Thank you thank you 🙏
We loved salmon! Granny put equal flour and cornmeal! Which made it a bit like fried cornbread! She did not drain and yes she used a spoon as well! We loved to put one in a biscuit with sugar syrup for breakfast and at supper we liked to have soft fried taters and onions! Oh how we loved them! Miss my Granny! But we still have them often! PS makes a great biscuit sandwich with mayo and pickles.
My mother made the best salmon patties she put corn meal flour eggs green pepper and onions it was delicious 😋 that is how i make mine today and some season 😋
Yolanda, that's how my grandma made them too. She used corn meal and included the green pepper with the onions. The way Chris made hers is just a delicious and what a pleasant memory.
My ma used pink salmon because it was cheaper than red salmon. Really good. She left the bones and skin in. She said it was good for you:) she just mixed them in good.
My mom did mackerel like that with the biscuits and syrup.. other times with grits and eggs... But when she did the salmon.. it was a ball and with grits and eggs and biscuits.. awesome video.. keep it coming.❤❤
"O wow Ms Chris, those look amazing, my Mom made those for us as children also, except she added several cans of Star Kist Tuna in the oil, I remember her adding a little bit of flour to the mixture and patting them out like burgers and coating them in cornmeal and frying them up as you did, and they were very delicious along with some Smothered Potatoes and Onions, Syrup and she would make the Homemade biscuits from scratch....😂😋👍, and all 8 of us kids were very full and happy back then..Thanks for taking me back there...I love your channel, God Bless you...😂🙋😋👍, Westcoast Listening 🙏🎧..
I've been wondering what to make with my cans of mackerel besides using it to trap the feral cats 🐈🐈⬛in my backyard! (TNR... kittens get homes) But I'm not giving them my Salmon! Thanks for this recipe!
I absolutely love watching you- it takes me back when I used to help my grandma cook in the kitchen growing up- I'm getting emotional just watching you. I pray you're in good health!! God bless!
Yes I am doing fine. I will be making videos again probably next week. I got a lot of material when it comes to recipes. Lots of my viewers are asking why I’am not posting. They don’t realize old people get tired quick, lol. I’m not getting any younger. But I’m glad that, I have so many viewers that miss me when I’m not there. Thank you for contacting me today. Love hearing from y’all. Blessings and joy to you. I will be back soon. ❤️
@@LMAOINMEMPHIS I will be doing a video tomorrow for lemon pepper wings and a couple more. I don’t cook like I once did. But it’s great to be missed. ❤️
I tried this with a few different oils coconut, crisco, vegtable oil, and Ghee. Ghee takes the kind of heat that renders that distinct bite we remember from the old school pot lucks.
Back in the day, canned mackerel cost 10 cents a can. Canned salmon was more expensive. So yes. Mackerel was the way to go if you didn’t have much money.
With inflation at a 40 yr high and only going up in the future, thanks to corporate greed. I think we all need to use what we have. I cook from scratch overall using the old school recipes and tips from my childhood. I'm in my 60's now. I enjoy your channel so much.
I make mine with a frozen seasoning blend (onion, celery and bell pepper), one sleeve of crushed saltines, two eggs, whatever seasonings I decide to use and two cans of mackerel including bones and liquid: mix, make patties and fry.
Chris, you surprise me so many times by making things my grandmother always made and usually just like she did! Mom's mother lived with us growing up and took care of all the cooking in the house. When I saw that you were using Mackerel, it hit me right in my gut because my grandmother always did too. Sometimes it was with salmon, most always it was with mackerel. Thank you so much!
Memories my grandmother and mom would make these I had 10 siblings plus my mom and dad you are right they went a long way. I always thought it was a treat, when my mom made these.

My grandma who taught me to cook was from the south. We were dirt poor, but never hungry. She was so creative and made a lot of your same dishes.❤
How in the world do you always know what I been wanting to learn how to make. This is the third time you’ve read my mind. Love it. Thank you thank you 🙏
This took me back! My dad made mackerel croquets all the time with rice. ❤

I leave the bones in. They’re SO soft. They’re not hard like catfish bones. Plus, they’re rich in nutrition! I love your cooking show! ❤️
High calcium content is beneficial. I leave them in also.

Just a good old fashioned recipe that is very satisfying
My Mom made it this way but also added a can of tuna to it! We usually ate it with spaghetti 🐟🍝
We had them growing up always served with grits.
Yummy 😋
My mom always left the bones in unless I got to them first. 😂
Hey Mrs Chris
Haven’t heard from her in awhile, pray she is okay!!
Bless you. I love this.
I try to keep a can in pantry for those cravings😊
I make a milk gravy and add some peas to it. It’s good on top
Yesssssss that's what Granny used!!!

Memories my grandmother and mom would make these I had 10 siblings plus my mom and dad you are right they went a long way. I always thought it was a treat, when my mom made these.
I remember this mealwhen I was growing up, I cut up some bellpepper in mines and would eat it with some ketchup and hot sauce 😊
I love mackerel in the can.
My all time favorite too
my granny never threw anything away, she even made lima bean patties and black eyed pea patties.
