I use an oscilloscope, an UNI-T one that is also a multimeter and it is quite small. I don't do business, I fix a lot of things that I buy as faulty, then keep it as a piece of my collection, or sell it. I also fix 8-bit computer stuff that needs more oscilloscope use. A lot of times I do this for fun, and I have learned most of my skills from these Northridge Fix videos
Because we watch you work in the microscopic world all the time, it's easy to forget how small the components that you replace really are. That's what amazes me about your work.
I know! a while back I put in a bigger, faster M.2 drive into my Razer laptop and couldn't believe how damn small those components are that he's working on day in and day out!
I did disassemble a PS4 controller just to replace the old battery a while ago, and while doing that, I took a moment to inspect the tiny board and look at the components, they are so so so small, that it shows how amazing is Alex's work
"anything looks easy if you know how to do it" so very true. today, I could replace an hdmi port in a minute or less, 100% chance of it being done properly first time. easy. 2 years ago when I was just learning to solder, it would have taken me a half hour, and I would have potentially torn pads, making it take even longer to run jumpers. practice practice practice!
Im an auto tech and people like to say "that only took you an hour why does it cost so much?" My replay "no that took me 20 years" its all about the experience. You are definitely a master of your craft.
When I was a network engineer I would do a 12 hour shift of jobs in the first 4 hours. This would include work on future scheduled jobs. Most other engineers observed me sitting around doing nothing and thought I was lazy when in fact I was about 2 weeks ahead of schedule. It got the the point where all of my hours for the day were already worked and signed off as completed so I had to assist other teams and pick up the slack.
Ad 7 minutes and 35 seconds the board already looks mutch better, before that it looked very dirty, so that alone is already a huge improvement if you ask me, great job NorthridgeFix 👌
I love the Hiroshimas....and even though I don't work in the industry, I wanna buy : Original Amtech Flux, Hot-Air Station, Soldering station, Thermal Camera, Power Supply, Voltage Injection Tool, Grinding Pen, Superfine Precision Tweezers, Braid-Wick, Fume Extractor, Microscope and Lenses, Ring Light, Anti-Glare Light, Mini Soldering Pen, Hot Tweezers, Capacitors, Resistors, Mosfets, DrMOSs, Diodes, HDMI Controller Chips, Reballing Stencils, Leaded Solder Balls and Paste, Double Headed Multifunction Prying Tools, Blade Number 1 Knife Tool, Low-Melt Solder, and General Accessories. and I know that I could buy all these wonderful products With My Eyes Closed..lol What a brilliant salesman you are Alex...!!
Agree Alex, it’s a waste of time to use the oscilloscope unless you’re repairing audio circuits. When the majority of the time you’re measuring voltage properties, what’s the point? DC is boring to look at.
We don’t care about you advertising your stuff you sell on the website, when I say we I mean me and the mouse in my pocket….idk about these other people but I don’t care one bit!!!! Cheers keep the vids coming and a long time no see big boss!!!
Rite arm, my Wife says I am carrying a lazy man's load to get all the groceries at once but that's just me.. Love your work, my next life I want to be your apprentice @ NorthridgeFix
Have no worries about self advertising, it's effective haha. Planning on buying the basic line up soon myself. You're ability to make it look so easy makes me want to strive to achieve even a fraction of your skill.
The Oscope is more for developing hardware. It does not make sense to use it when troubleshooting the hardware unless you are having a signaling issue.
Reminds me of a mechanic saying. We charge by the hours the book time says. For example this particular job has a book time of 2 hours. However, after 20 years of experience and doing this countless times, I can get the job done in less than 45 minutes. However I charge the client for the two hours because I am not going to take a pay cut for getting better at my job.
One of the problems I run into is when someone watches a video and it was component G that fixed the issue on the device in the video, so they swap (Or try to swap component G and it doesn't fix theirs, so they watch more videos, swap more parts and by the time it makes it's way to you they have been through half the alphabet then complain when you give them a price IF you are even willing to look at it. One example was on a vehicle. Customer had replaced PCM, Alternator, several relays and some wires. Still not charging. So I did a diag only for them. One test - told them to replace the alternator fuse. Fixed.
I had one recently (was an automotive board) where customer asked me to do specific thing and sent link to the RUclips video that showed the problem and a repair. They probably watched the first 5 mins, then skipped to the end. They also must have skipped the bit just before the last part which basically said "this didn't fix the issue, so I bought a new board."..... LOL
Another great Vid, practice is the mother of all skills, let me add assumption is the mother of Chaos. Meassuring gives knowledge, you are a legend! (as is big Boss)
I‘m disappointed with the video. It‘s not a Hiroshima. It should have ripped pads, components missing, blobs of solder, plastic melted and burnt pcb. GIve this a new name.😅
😂 yeah it was only one big blob. Hopefully the next one deserves the name Hiroshima 😉. Like this channel so much because of Alex's smile after successful repair... priceless 👍🫶🎉
Question: What are the ~ costs for such a repair? New port, new chip in a Hiroshima environment? Without shipping... roughly? I always wondered why customers try it, fail etc.
Noticed Hiroshima in the news last week, and was surprised. Today It’s a well off city with a population of 1.2 million , and downtown Hiroshima looks like Times Square .
On next video I would like to see you do replacement the type C charging port/pin. On mobile devices like Samsung or any other mobile using type C charging port/pin. I want to see because it very hard for me to do it.
I used to use a scope to help narrow down issues based on signal out , then much like yourself when you find what is most likely then common failure I never touched it again .
what temp is your iron when your desoldering with the wick? I feel like im not using enough heat based on how easy solder transferred to your wick in this vid.
I always wonder what goes through these people's minds when soldering like that. Do they think "if the pads weren't supposed to be soldered together, then why are they so close to each other?" or "I saw that Northridge Fix guy on RUclips solder a MOSFET. He said it's fine to solder pads together."? SMH at those folks
Greetings. Thanks immensely for always sharing such amazing and educational contents. Shout out to BIG BOSS, he is an absolute asset and a perfect complement to your business. God's richest blessings to you and your family and continued success in all your endeavours.
Yeah I rememeber same story when boss once asked me add extra function to GEM 80 PLC, a delay timer for one of the processes, I always worked on Allan Bradley and SIEMENS S7s the aswer was its simple just adding a times should take around 30 min to do so, but learn how do that 30 min job on GEM80 would take me 2 days as I never work on that XD
Alex, your work stations looks more like a recording studio every time I see it. I would be interested to see a little more about the equipment you use for recording from your different camera's, lighting & sound etc. I see a lot of RUclipsrs wearing microphones that look like little furry Mice stuck to their T-Shirts but you use something very different 🙂
Late comment, if you break your hands, you don't make money, they are your tools of the trade. . I have done the same with LOTS OF BAGS at the same time and i was told, ' it is the lazy mans load'. Again, I wanted to get something done quickly.
I can not show you how I use a osciloscope because of NDA agreement but I can assure you I almost have to use it every day. Not all repair is failed user aplayence. I work in pumps. Fuel pumps. Those where you fill your tank unless you changed to electric. Even repair those too. Wen it's a problem with communication to the main pos. A osciloscope is a must.
Helloo! i have samsung monitor 27" the half of the screen is someting yellowish i try reseting the monitor settings and the color but not working what is the problem the board of monitor or the screen?

Great video, it really could have been far worse if the customer had tried to do more, I was amazed to see that all the pads were still in place.

Yes. You always make the job look easy.
Having the right tools for a job, any job, makes things easier too... along with experience.
People try it themselves because you make it look so easy! Great video as always, my little 5 year old always enjoys watching them with me!
always love this quote "Better than factory" nice job as always.
the problem is nowadays poor qualty control on pc boards' it's not hard to do a better job than the manufacturer .............
lol.. you got me on the looking at wrong connector.. as always thanks for the laughs.. always good to laugh and learn at the same time.

Beautiful soldering on the connector❤

For a t-shirt.
The Oscope is more for developing hardware. It does not make sense to use it when troubleshooting the hardware unless you are having a signaling issue.
You do magic on this channel. I can’t do whatever you do because I have unsteady hands and I don’t have tools
Awesome, another happy customer.
I use an oscilloscope all the time. Its good for tracing digital signals. I use a multi meter for DC voltages.
Alex, on the last wide shot of your (new) bench, I did not see your fume extractor? Just curious.
Nice idea with multimeter arrangement at Big Boss bench. Now I use the same way
I only use an oscilloscope when fixing audio gear - which is rare. It's great for keeping paperwork from blowing away.
Me too, and then pretty much only to trace audio signals along a path.
Glad to hear you have family involved with your business ❤

Big Boss has an awesome Multimeter holder! I have one of those VESA double mounts and will do the same!
Do you have a suplier where you get your replacement chips, components etc? Or do you get them from doner boards only?
