Sir, that had to be one of the best and most pleasant reviews I've seen. The un-boxing was was brief, yet informative; many other reviewers draw this portion out painfully long. You didn't swear. You were humble and you read the instructions. You gave credit to others... More importantly, your presentation was smooth - no "uhs" and what have you. Thank you so much for taking the time to make the video! I think I might have been rooting for a positive outcome on your project.
I definitely agree! Good review and thanks for not loading down the review with bad language. I am looking at buying one of these at Harbor Freight and you've convinced me. I gotta get away from a brush...lol
I'd thought I'd leave a comment saying that you definitely convinced me to get this. I'm someone who has NEVER done any work with an actual sprayer (all spray cans), and I was very happy to see that you were in roughly the same boat. You have had experience, but not enough to call yourself a professional, which is something I admire that you flat out came out and said. I wish that more people would review products like you did; it was very professional while also trying to keep touch with the amateurs going into this having NO idea of what they're doing. Now, our purposes for the sprayer are only slightly different (you're restoring a tractor and I'm just looking to keep my car from rusting out due to lack of paint), but I flipped through your other videos to see how you were using it and such (I figured it would be better to learn from someone who has some experience, rather than the hard way) and I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't get abandoned in a box somewhere and you continued to use it. It speaks loudly for the quality of it. Genuinely, thank you for taking the time and effort to make this video, it's going to help a college kid keep his car from rusting out this winter, maybe even get something of quality! Very excited!
Ryun Lacek Wow Ryan, Thank you very much! It's funny cuz I hope to use it again this week on some more tractor parts. It really has served me well. I know how the college cars are. I painted my college car with a Wagner power painter. And it was primer only (that's all I could afford) and it lasted a couple of years. Good luck and I hope it works out for you too. Study hard;-)
Thank you! REALLY! This is my first HVLP painting, first welding, first bodywork, first restoration try. I love when an expert helps me out! I will use what you have told me. Thanks again and I sure hope to give painting a shot this week.......
Thank you very much! So far the 1.8 has worked SO well! I have sprayed epoxy and 2k primer (tractor primer) and they both layed down like glass. I will try to spray paint (single stage) this week. I will post a vid as soon as I spray paint. Thank you so much for the info. I thought that is how the tip sizes worked, but I wasn't 100% sure. I will hopefull post later this week........
I’m a professional contractor and often use these systems for spraying lacquer’s and primers on millwork. I have 4 of these systems and probably six extra guns that I have found in the clearance section at my local hardware for extra parts. They are exceptional value and work extremely well for the money. I also have Graco and Fuji systems that I use for my business but find these systems to be so convenient and inexpensive.
Hi!! That's a great little outfit. By brother bought one and painted his truck with it using Rustoleum and acetone mixed 70/30 and added a regular enamel hardener. I think the hardener was made by "Valspar" from Lowes. He only paid $99 at HB for the Harbor Freight HVLP #44677 at HB. I might suggest you purchase plastic liners for the cup, however. They're only like a dollar for 10 at HB. They sure make clean-up easier. Great video. Thanks!
I just bought one of these. Now mind you it's 5 years after you posted this fine review... and STILL NO INSTRUCTIONS ON THE VISCOCITY CUP! Haha.. I thought I was losing my mind as I read through the instructions 3 times....... well.... did a guy scan twice, then slowed slightly for the third pass..... anyway, I just tossed it aside and started spraying. I have to agree with your review here. So far, I really love this thing! I just bought another one!
No worries about the 5 years thing. I still have and use mine and still love it. And I still don't know how to use that viscosity cup. I plan to do one more review and answer a few questions that are commonly asked. And thank you so much.......
Thanks so much for your video. I went out today and bought one of these. It was $119 on advertised sale, but I had a July 4th coupon for 25% off, so the final price was $79.99. I'll do an update after I actually use it. The HF guy did warn me that if I decided to return it, there would be a 20% restocking charge. He says it is to keep people from just "renting" these. I've got a '66 Ford F100 we're going to paint. We'll see how it goes.
You might think you are a beginner, but you sure did a good job. The video making is also very good. I enjoyed watching it and will take a closer look at the hvlp kit next time I'm at harbor because of your video. Thanks.
In your setup and what you have available, I would recommend the 1.8mm for primer applications. Even though a 0.3mm difference might not seem a lot, it comes down to how the paint/primer atomizes when it leaves the tip (larger tip = better atomizing for thick applications). When it comes down to it, it's all about the finish. Sorry for if my opinion doesn't apply to your work, I'm a certified HVLP painter and I'm just using what I learned through the years in autobody refinish. =P
I'm working on a utility bed trailer painting it with Rustoleum I think I do just what you brother did, thanks for the comment. One of the problems when painting Rustoleum with a brush is that it goes on thick & need quite a few days to harden.
Thicker the viscosity, the larger diameter tip should be used as a general rule of thumb. The opposite is applied to thinner viscosity. If the paint is thicker than milk, use a 1.8mm + tip. If it's like let say.. water, go with a 1.5mm.
i’m glad you did this reveiw i’m a retired woodworker and 20 plus years ago i bought a Campbell Housefeild HVlP setup that is all metal and i absolutely loved it sadly it was stolen and i will need to replace the entire system i actually sprayed a 2 stage Dupont auto paint on a Vintage Sports car of mine And honestly it came out great despite people telling me it wouldn’t work in my internet search this unit keeps popping up but of course being Harbor Freight i was skeptical your video has changed that btw i was able to purchase a extra Campbell Housefeild all metal hun and cup years ago to replace one that a co worker didnt clean properly and it looks like that would fit the Harbor Freight pump if you so desire to have a all metal gun
Craig Monteforte I have to admit that I thought it was junk when I opened it and found the plastic gun. I was just VERY lucky that the epoxy primer that I mixed and nozzle I picked were a perfect fit! I was shocked at how well it sprayed! Please understand I’m a total novice. That was the first time I used a HVLP gun and mixed paint/primer. The primer was 50/50 mix so I didn’t have to go with what looked right. Later when I tried mixing paint, I made it too thick. Anyway, I hope you like yours. And thank you very much.....
Great review! I might buy one now. For best spray pattern, hold the gun perpendicular to the surface you are painting. I noticed during your cardboard trials that you had the gun tilted down quite a bit. That might give you a heavier coating near the top of the fan and less below. Just FYI. Otherwise, nice job!
I just noticed this comment because someone just made a comment that I saw. If I didn't reply a year ago when you posted this, I apologize. I reply to guys that give nice comments. Thank you so much and sorry I missed this.....
If the paint pickup tube is inserted so it points forward, a slight downward tilt lets you get all the paint out of the cup. If you need to paint up high for some reason, the pickup tube can be rotated to point to the back, and then it will work with a slight upward tilt.
Cool! I am doing a lawn tractor restoration and was going to add the paint review on vid#26 or 27. A few guys are interested in this painter so I think I will do a review #2 vid when I try paint. Keep an eye open for it in the next few weeks. I think I'll be trying to lay down paint by then........
the main thing about the viscosity cup is to make sure that the batch one of paint that sprays as you need it to is the same as the next .that is if we write down a viscosity chart keeping track of things in the trail runs
Went to the top and Harbor said no dice. I need to speak to Chicago directly I'm sure they would want to know. I will let you know if I find out how to contact them.
Nice helpful video, thanks. I was looking at Harbor Freight coupon and thought I'd check out RUclips for some general info on HVLP sprayers and found you reviewed the exact model. Have a long fence needs repainting and I think this will do the job. Thanks again for the review.
Nice run Jester. You got better results than a pro I watched with this gear. Am looking into this for painting my car. Any equipment comment you have in that regard would be appreciated.
Thank you so much! There are many guys that have commented on this review saying that they paint cars with it. All said they had great results. I haven't used it on a car, but I would feel comfortable doing that. Good luck and thank you again.....
Hey jster I wonder if the flutter of the parts from the pressure of the paint hitting will cause uneven spray pattern with something thinner like paint? Great vid but you might want to get the garage in a box for a paint booth.
i wont lie buddy , i didnt think it would work . lol but i have to say the wide fan on that box really impressed me . that wide fan is the trick to getting good gloss . all beginners keep the fan way to narrow . ill be staying tuned :)
I see thanks, looks like they've run the price up to $129.99, on sale for $119.99. That's a big price jump. Best you can do with a 20% off now is about $96. I should have bought one last month!
Thank you very much. I was thinking the same thing;-) I must say if a first time painter can get results like that, someone that know what they're doing is going to be dangerous!! I hope the paint goes on that well and that it doesn't fall apart too soon. Thanks again.....
jster1963 Thanks for replying. I would really like a list of the products you used. I want to get that epoxy paint you're using. I'm getting that sprayer and I'm so glad I found your video.
No worries! I used the Kirker epoxy primer. It was so easy to use because it was a 50/50 mix. So if you have 2 paint cups, you just use equal amounts and mix it. With the biggest tip on the sprayer, it was PERFECT!! I bought it at Auto Body Toolmart. There is one near me, but you can buy online.
Awesome review! Looks like I found my beginners spray system. I'm getting into painting and was looking for something like this! Thanks for the review!
Norty I'm the coupon king!! You just missed the $99 coupon on this sprayer that expired June 4. Sorry! Ps. Use a 25% or 20% coupon. That sprayer only goes on sale once a year, maybe twice but it's rare......
If you're getting the HF version, there's a 25% coupon to use on July 4th. I'm not sure if I've seen this exact model there anymore. Rockler changed theirs and I think HF did as well. Looks like a cosmetic upgrade.
Still working, still loving it! I don't use it everyday. So far I've used it in 2 projects. I'm still using it on my tractor restoration. I plan to do one more video on it using car paint. I've been asked a lot about car paint. There is a guy that commented on this video and said he's painted 3 cars with this painter. Anyway, it's still in my tool inventory........
I was considering using a remote controlled switch to turn the turbine on and off; have you found while using it that you don't really take any breaks while painting? Figured if you don't leave it on the whole time it would save walking back and forth the 15 feet if you have the hose at full extension.
Wow, that sux! I knew I wasn't going to paint for a while, so I had time. I had seen it for $69.99 once, and started the waiting game. It took almost 6 months before I saw it again for that price and I jumped on it. It was still a crap shoot at the time for me. It's in my lawn tractor vid #8 when I first got it back in Jan of 2011. Time flies.......
How well does it perform if you hold the gun in different positions? Nooks and crannies require you to sometimes paint upside down... Thank you for your time and energy on the review!
It will shoot paint momentarily upside down, but it runs out of paint quickly. It doesn't sputter when it runs out and then starts again either. I plan to modify mine to be able to spray upside down. I plan to use a weight on a flexible tube. Anyway, thank you for the kind words.....
I heard is was always good to practice setting up a new spray gun on the wife's car. Im not sure if that is true or not, but it makes sense. You know I was just thinking I needed a new gun for household applications, if your color goes on that smooth as well, Im sold.
I thought I had a bright idea of minimizing mess by trying to spray right from the small paint can, but it didn't work because it apparently doesn't actually suck up the paint from the tube, but instead pressurizes the paint cup to push the paint up to the nozzle when it's operating. I may try getting a small can that can fit inside the paint cup and see if I can load small amounts of paint in that to act as the reservoir of paint, and allow for quicker switching of paints without trying to find additional paint cups.
jster1963 I'll try it next time I use it, I had a can that just fit through the opening but the upper rim didn't, so it wouldn't pass through. I might have tried it but the pickup spout was too long without the can going all the way down to the bottom. Just need to try with a slightly smaller can.
Great video, thanks for posting! I bought one of these a couple years ago and it's still unopened lol but planning on using on an old truck that desperately needs to be painted. Good info here. I think I'll do a before and after video when I use it myself!
Please do post it! That would be great. And thank you very much! If you thin the paint correctly and use the right tip, you will have great results.......
I buy my acetone by the gallon, but the funny thing is the guy sells it in used gallon water jugs that he just puts a 7/8" x 3.5" sticker on it, that can fall off. Well the first thing I do is transfer the acetone to another jugs that I have marked all over them 'poison' & 'acetone' & etc. I sure would hate to drink it by mistake. Though it may not really have any great harm to me but I don't want to find out. I've seen them dump the pure water out into the bay in-order to use the water jugs.
Thank you very much! I hope you like yours too. If you don't have a ton of money to use on equipment, this will do the trick. This will def paint a trailer. Good luck and thanks again.....
I'm sorry I have no clue! I really am a novice. I plan to try base coat/clear coat some day. I'll do another vid using paint as soon as the weather allows me to paint.
There is a high flow of air withour pressing the trigger! However, I'm not sure about the overspray because I've only sprayed outside. I wonder if you backed down on the material if that would help. I put mine in a circular patter and really cut the flow and it worked so well. I sure that helps. ps. This really is my first time spray painting, so I'm no expert. Good luck.....
Viscosity cup , Where i worked we had on a bigger scale a paint dipping trough & had to have a certain viscosity and we would heat the paint to thin & extreme we used acetone for better overage
sounds great, but for a beginner, would love to know if there's a spray tip to reduce the guns fan width? now I have figure how to get a portable power to the turbine with a generator or a rechargable battery system.
aaron fuksa Not sure about the battery, but you can adjust the fan width by turning the nozzle. You can go from a circle to a fan. I hope that helps.....
You're welcom. Additionally, you can go to LOWES and get an enamel hardner called "VALSPAR". Works great with Rustoleum. Rock Hard!!! Just follow the directions on the can.
by the way thank you for the amazing tutorial i have been wanting to buy this kit but i would like to know if it works well with latex paint for doors cabinets and moldings. Thanks again.
jason holguin Thank you! I have not used latex paint with this gun, but I think some guys have. Check in the comments below but I think some guys have used latex paint. Most guys ask about auto paint. Sorry I wish I had more info for you and good luck.
Nice video! I have one of these and I think it does a good job. One thing though is that every book I've read on spray painting says NOT to use that sweeping motion when spraying. But almost every video I've seen of even so-called professional auto body guys they do this. I also took several semesters of auto-body at a local JC the instructor and was taught that you keep your spray gun perpendicular to the surface being sprayed. Also, I started to use it when painting my house but a 1 qt cup is just too darn small to get much done. I got a used sprayer that you just stick a tube in your paint can. The only way to Fly!
Holy smokes! I wonder if this would work using it in right in a paint can. I may have to try that. Any you are right about the sweeping motion. I'm just a novice. And thank you very much.......
I'm no expert by any means. And if you're not painting a classic car or such it doesn't really matter. But unlearning those bad habits we sometimes pick up early on can be hard. i don't know if adapting it to draw straight from a bucket would work. I'm guessing that you''d have to hook it up to that tank that Snap Off sells/sold that looks like a pressure cooker.
Wow, that is so cool! I would love to see his truck! I love that gun. And I will take that advice, cuz I hate cleanup! I will look for liners the next time I'm at HF. I practically live there;-) Thank you very much, and you're welcome......
I didn't think it would work either! I though for $69.99 I would give it a try for primer. Now, I can't wait to try paint. My only painting experience is with rattle cans and a Wagner power painter. This thing is CRAZY GOOD compared to those. I'll def do a vid on it again when I shoot some paint. ps. I was shocked with the fan pattern too! I sure hope it paints as well as it primes........
These players are great I painted an entire car with water I'm getting ready to paint another one so they're really great but you got them keep the paint really thin they've got a little cup mixer thing that you pour your paint through and it's like a funnel in you count how many seconds it takes for it to go to the phone on that tells you how it take to make the pain but basically lean towards the fence side spray a test and if it's to splotchy a little more thinner in it
Great Review thanks!! Is your hose connection loose where it connects to the unit? Mine is, and air blows past it. The unit does seem to work, but that seems odd. I just bought this and practiced spraying this weekend on some cardboard. Novice and learning how to thin paint. I used Rustoleum Oil Based Enamel. I ended up thinning it about 1/4 with Mineral Spirits (will use acetone next time as I hear Mineral Spirits take a lONG time to cure) and it still came out blotchy on the 1.0 tip. I tried the 1.8 and 1.5. I got the best results with a fine spray at very low air flow adjustment and the 1.0.. I am not sure if that is really the best setup. I' see people getting a nice full spray.. Mine was quite weak..I will have to experiment some more.. I may have to filter the paint better.
guitarsncarsnart I was so lucky that I got it right the 1st time. I would have been discouraged if I had to play with it and it wasn’t right there 1st time! I would have thought it was a cheap gun and it would never work right. I used a 2 part epoxy primer and when I mixed it, it was perfect for the tip I used. I think it was 1.8. Anyway, the next paint I used in it was oil based enamel. I mixed it too thick. If you have the right thickness of paint with the right tip, it works great! Also, I think mine leaks air at the base too but I can’t remember. Just make sure you twist it in to lock it. Remember, thin the paint more than you think. And good luck.....
This maybe just a wee bit late? lol - but using the viscosity cup, dip in the paint and time the rate of paint flow. If the paint drains in 70 seconds or less, it can be pumped through the HVLP sprayer. How has your spray rig held up over all this time? I know through regular use you'd have to but replacement tips, because they dont last forever. So I was wondering how hard it was to purchase replacement parts
Awesome! Thank you for the info! I still have it and it still works. I don't use it everyday. I'm just a hobbyist and haven't run it into the ground, so I'm not a good judge of how long it will last. I only used it on my tractor restoration project. And I'm not sure either about replacement parts. There have been a few guys that have said that there are other machines with a different label. So if you can't get parts with this machine, there may be other parts that work from other machines. Anyway, thanks and good luck........
My boyfriend managed to pick a used one up for free today and we're total beginners when it comes to anything airbrushing. Do can you use watered down craft store acrylic paint with this or is it more for car paint?
yfset8 I'm really not sure about acrylic paint. I'm no expert. I just tried tractor and auto paint. I think guys use this for staining wood too. Sorry I can't be more help. And good luck....
i bought one a coupe of weeks ago, still have to try it. next time you buy primer, get it mixed in a shaker. Go to a autobody supply store or a home depot. you really want primers mixed well before you use it.
Is that primer also paint that you're using? I'm very new to this and a bit confused. Do I also need to use paint? If so, what kind / brand? Sorry for asking so many questions, thank you so much in advance.
I used an auto primer and a tractor paint. No problem about so many questions. I'm new too. You should always use primer and then paint. I just works better. What are you painting? I'm not sure what to answer if I don't know what your painting. If your painting a tractor, then tractor paint is what you want. But if you're painting a car, then you want to use auto paint.....
I know it's been awhile but I was thinking about purchasing one but it would be strictly latex I would be spraying . Can you tell me if you had any issues if you spayed latex. Great video
Awesome! I plan to upload one more video review on the paint system. I really appreciate you letting me know that. So many guys ask about auto paint. Thanks again......
I am a advocate for buying usa made. But sometimes if the price is right and it works like it should what the heck why not. Now days most things made in the usa are assembled elsewhere anyways or visa versa so.. None the less good video brother.
Huge thank for the video! This definitely helped me decide whether or not I wanted to purchase and I'm glad I did. I'm having trouble getting it dialed in but I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually. Would you mind if I asked you a quick question... Does the hose at the back of your "compressor" side fit snugly or is it loose and let air out around it? Thanks in advance if you can answer.
Thank you very much for the kind words! Mine may be a little different than yours, but mine is not a tight fit like on the gun. It fits in and turns a bit to lock in. I don't think it leaks, but if it does it's not a lot. I hope this helps and good luck. Ps. Once you get the right combination of paint mixture and tip, it works great. Well at least mine does.....
jster1963 Thank you for the reply! Mine blows air out all around that connection so maybe something is wrong with my unit. I appreciate the time you took to write back. You're the best!
Thank you for making this video. After watching it I made the leap and bought one of my own. I do have a question though. Does yours have air constantly coming out before you press the trigger?
Yes. Air always comes out when it's turned on. I plan to do one more video in the next week or 2. If you are wanting to paint a car, look at the comments below. Several guys painted cars with great results. Thank for the kind words.....
jster1963 you're welcome. I will be painting my 71 Nova matte black with it next month so I hope your new video will be out before then. Good luck on your project and thanks again.
jster1963 I'll try to make a video of before and after and let you know when I post it. If the weather does what its supposed to do I'll be painting it this Sunday. I've watched you're videos a few more times so thanks again for posting them.
+Jake Lazore I hope yours works for you as good as mine has worked for me. I was using it again last week and it's still painting great. Thanks a lot and good luck....ps. HF should pay me;-)
I'm not sure if HF sells a replacement gun, but it's made by a couple of different companies. I think Rockler makes this same system. Sorry I wish I could be more help. And thank you...…..
Thank you very much! Yes, you can get the flow rate down to as slow as you want. When I paint small parts that have tight corners, I turn it WAY down. Thanks again.......
jster1963 Awesome man. I may pick one up to try one out as a secondary gun. I love HF. I got a sweet palm DA air sander there for short money and its holding up well. I always fill up a cart of stuff and its like 60 Bucks LOL.
I bought one of these after watching this review. So far, I am more than impressed by it's performance. However, one thing I haven't really mastered yet, is figuring out which nozzle/valve to use for each application. Do you test all of the nozzles first?
+WILSON! I just kept trying out different tips until it worked. I started with the biggest tip and it worked. I have used the other tips too. Trial and error. Thanks a lot and good luck.....
i bought a Campbell Hause field spray rig very similar to the one you have although mine did come with a metal gun and cup that i venture to guess would work with yours i mostly bought it to spray Woodworking although i did spray a automobile with Dupont 2 stage automotive paint with it and a lot of alex and oil based paints and stains and in honesty i think your Harbor Freight set up is quieter btw the car came out great
That is so awesome! I was shocked at how well this cheap setup worked. I'm not a paint guy at all, but I was able to get great results. I bet the guns are interchangeable. And thank you very much....
I had a coupon from Hot Rod magazine or a flyer HF sent me. I may have used a 25% coupon on top of a sale too. I can't remember, but I know it was a coupon. I try to only buy with the biggest discount coupons......
That paint looks amazing and I don't know much about resin paint but I know a little about resin and a little about paint. Can you tell me about it or where I can get a good deal on it
Thank you very much! I used epoxy primer I bought at Auto Body Toolmart. I also used Tractor and Implement paint I got at Farm and Fleet. You can use any oil based paint and get good results. And thank you again....
N.L. R.E.A You’re welcome! I hope you like yours as much as I liked mine. Guys have asked does it blow air out of the gun when it’s on but not spraying paint. And the answer is yes. When the machine is on air is blowing out of the gun tip. That’s bothered some guys, but it wasn’t a problem for me. Good luck and thanks again....
Hi Jster1963. I like all your stuff but I recall an earlier review of a HF HVLT which you had purchased and were using on your tractor project and were raving about. Just curious why you have this new HVLT? Did something go wrong with the purple one or did you just decide to treat yourself to another toy!!!
Chiefcpc: Great question! I really had this hvlp first. I bought it to use for primer, but it worked well for paint too. I bought the purple one for paint, so I had to try it when I had an air compressor that could support it. They both work well and I will use both this spring. And thank you very much!!
I think you can Larry. A pro will tell you no. That's because they only use the best stuff. I have only used single stage paint so far. I have not tried base coat/clear coat yet. I'll try to make another vid if I try the car (base/clear)........
Hi Salvador, I got the black primer from Auto Body Tool Mart. It is about 20 minutes from my house and it cost $25(1/2 Gal) I think. The grey primer I got from Tractor Supply for $50 (Gal). I'm away from home on business, but when I get home I can get you more info. Thanks.......
what adjustment settings do you have it on I'm about to go buy one to paint rat rod any advise wld be awesome. can you upload a pic of the settings or describe please
+Joey “AKA G MONEY” G I just put in the biggest tip and started painting. There are not too many settings. You can have the fan either vertical or horizontal. You can also make it a circle. The knob on the back is how far it lets you pull the trigger. That determines how much paint comes out. It's not hard at all. Let me know if you need anymore information. And thanks......
I used this to paint a whole car it worked like a charm. Cut n buff to close to a show finish. It cost me 119$ I would like get this other one for 145$ it's stronger
I get asked that question all the time! You are like the 4th person who painted a car with this and got great results! Thank you so much and I hope you get the other one......
The paint has to be thinned correctly and the correct tip used. I've never used house paint in my, but auto and tractor paint works fine. Sorry and I hope you get it working right......
john Frederickson I still have it, but haven’t had to paint anything lately. I do still love it and will use it again. I’m glad I bought it. I hope this helps....
The problem that I'm having with the sprayers. Is that very little wants to come out of the straight tip. I have taking the whole gun apart and cleaned it over and over and over again no change. I thought the problem would have been the tip would have been clogged. But no of course that wasn't the problem any ideas.
Let me start out by saying I'm no expert, I'm just a DIY guy. If the gun doesn't have a problem, maybe it's your paint is too thick. I heard a guy say "thin it until you think it's too thin....then thin it a little bit more." Anyway, good luck and if it is broken, see if you can exchange it.......

Holy cow, thank you! I really appreciate that! I'm trying my best to get better each time. Thanks again and I hope it helped......
I definitely agree! Good review and thanks for not loading down the review with bad language. I am looking at buying one of these at Harbor Freight and you've convinced me. I gotta get away from a brush...lol
@@stevelusk2853 How did it go?
@@agrobotics Haven't bought one yet. I think they've change the brand they are carrying. Too many projects on my end. Thanks for asking.
I'd thought I'd leave a comment saying that you definitely convinced me to get this. I'm someone who has NEVER done any work with an actual sprayer (all spray cans), and I was very happy to see that you were in roughly the same boat.
Flyer88 That is so cool! Thank you very much! I’m an amateur and love hearing what pros have to say. Thank you again......
Thanks.
Thank you very much for the kind words. And so far, that cheap gun is still going strong. Good luck......
Nice work from 1 newbie to another. It showed nice and clear on the video How smooth the paint laid, thanks for sharing your talent and video, Rodney
Rodney Widger Thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate that......
Awesome advice! Thank you so much.......
Went to the top and Harbor said no dice. I need to speak to Chicago directly I'm sure they would want to know. I will let you know if I find out how to contact them.
No runs, No drips, No Errors! lol
I think you sold me!
Nice helpful video, thanks. I was looking at Harbor Freight coupon and thought I'd check out RUclips for some general info on HVLP sprayers and found you reviewed the exact model. Have a long fence needs repainting and I think this will do the job. Thanks again for the review.
You're welcome and thank you!
Excellent review! I agree with other posters that your delivery and presentation is fantastic.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that......
Thank you for a great vid, certainly made me want to buy one now! Much appreciated!
Thank you very much......
I used this machine too spray scuffmaster paint ..metalic paint and epoxy paint works great.. great video..thanks
Alvaro Andrade Awesome!! Thanks a lot! I get asked about auto paint all the time. It's nice to know it can do those other paints too. Thx again.....
nice write up... keep it up... you sound like a tv guy with no bs!
I'm planing on buying one of thees for $ 99.99 using my inside track membership looks like it would really work good. Thanks for you video.
Nice job with your presentation. You covered everything very well. Thank You!
Mark Hubanks Thank you very much for the kind words.....
Hey jster I wonder if the flutter of the parts from the pressure of the paint hitting will cause uneven spray pattern with something thinner like paint? Great vid but you might want to get the garage in a box for a paint booth.
The paint stirrer attachments used with a drill works much nicer for getting the paint mixed up. Can't beat that with a stick!
DTR RTD “can’t beat that with a stick” buh dump dump, LOL! Great tip and thank you.....
Great Review, I just purchased one, and as far as I can see I think I'm going to like it.
Derek Sinka Sweet! I hope yours works as well as mine. And thank you very much......
i wont lie buddy , i didnt think it would work . lol
but i have to say the wide fan on that box
really impressed me . that wide fan is the trick
to getting good gloss . all beginners keep
the fan way to narrow . ill be staying tuned :)
I got it on sale with a coupon for $69.99. Well worth it so far. I'll let you know more when I try to spray paint and not primer.
Dude, I'm SOLD. Thanks for the review.
Red Gemini Arts I hope you have as much success as I have. And thank you very much.....
jster1963 Thanks for replying.
Norty I'm so glad it helped! I hope you like it as much as I do. Make sure you use a coupon. And good luck.....
You found a good coupon???
Norty I'm the coupon king!! You just missed the $99 coupon on this sprayer that expired June 4. Sorry! Ps. Use a 25% or 20% coupon. That sprayer only goes on sale once a year, maybe twice but it's rare......
Damn!!!!!!!
If you're getting the HF version, there's a 25% coupon to use on July 4th. I'm not sure if I've seen this exact model there anymore. Rockler changed theirs and I think HF did as well. Looks like a cosmetic upgrade.
Ok...so this video is over 4 years old now. How do you feel about now? Still love it? Still working?
Time flies.......
you have got my attention I'll watch for more and to see how that gun puts down a coat of paint
Just remember to use acetone and NOT mineral spirits to thin Rustoleum. Mineral spirits takes forever to fully cure.
DTR RTD I want to do something about that too. Let me know how yours works. And thank you.....
jster1963
I'll try it next time I use it, I had a can that just fit through the opening but the upper rim didn't, so it wouldn't pass through. I might have tried it but the pickup spout was too long without the can going all the way down to the bottom.
Just need to try with a slightly smaller can.
Harbor Freight sells liner bags just for this purpose! Just bought a pack of 10 for $1! www.harborfreight.com/hvlp-spray-gun-liners-10-pack-94631.html
great video man! Harbor freight is THE SPOT!!!
True dat! I love it.....
Thank you. I'll pick one up here shortly!
That is a very fine piece of work for a beginner and u will get to learn more as u use it more thanx for keeping the video breif god bless.
Thank you so much! And God bless you too....
Yours sounds really cool. I'll have to learn how to use mine. And thank you......
Wow I cant believe how nice it is!
IKR! It has worked well for me. And thank you very much....
sounds great, but for a beginner, would love to know if there's a spray tip to reduce the guns fan width?
now I have figure how to get a portable power to the turbine with a generator or a rechargable battery system.
aaron fuksa Not sure about the battery, but you can adjust the fan width by turning the nozzle. You can go from a circle to a fan. I hope that helps.....
Great video thanks !!! Looks like I will be visting HF soon to pick up mine.
Thank you very much! I hope you have as much success as I've had with mine. Thanks again.....
Great review.... Keep up the good work.....
jimjulie1 Thank you very much1
You're welcom. Additionally, you can go to LOWES and get an enamel hardner called "VALSPAR". Works great with Rustoleum. Rock Hard!!! Just follow the directions on the can.
hey great vid...I need a spray gun for some lacquer. Looking for that smooth finish. Thanks
by the way thank you for the amazing tutorial i have been wanting to buy this kit but i would like to know if it works well with latex paint for doors cabinets and moldings. Thanks again.
jason holguin Thank you! I have not used latex paint with this gun, but I think some guys have. Check in the comments below but I think some guys have used latex paint. Most guys ask about auto paint. Sorry I wish I had more info for you and good luck.
Thank you very much! I can't wait to try color (paint). I hope it goes as well as the primer. Thanks again.......
Thank you and I hope it sprays as good as mine!
These players are great I painted an entire car with water I'm getting ready to paint another one so they're really great but you got them keep the paint really thin they've got a little cup mixer thing that you pour your paint through and it's like a funnel in you count how many seconds it takes for it to go to the phone on that tells you how it take to make the pain but basically lean towards the fence side spray a test and if it's to splotchy a little more thinner in it
I've had several guys that told me they painted cars with this. That is great information and thank you very much......
And good luck.....
great demonstation dude
Excellent review. Thank you!
Cory Anderson Thank you very much....
how does it work with latex paint
I didn't know that, so thank you. I hope yours works as good as mine! Thanks again.....
Great video
I'm not sure about latex. I've only used oil based paint in it. Sorry I wish I knew, but I don't. Good luck and thanks....ps. I think you can
I've used it on car paint and also painted two of my fishing aluminum boats just get your paint mixed right you'll be amazed with results
Nah, I'm just average, LOL! Thank you again and I hope you get it to work. Ps. I think you're ok as long as it's spraying......
Just by chance, how much was it?
Thank you for making this video. After watching it I made the leap and bought one of my own. I do have a question though. Does yours have air constantly coming out before you press the trigger?
Yes. Air always comes out when it's turned on. I plan to do one more video in the next week or 2. If you are wanting to paint a car, look at the comments below. Several guys painted cars with great results. Thank for the kind words.....
jster1963 you're welcome. I will be painting my 71 Nova matte black with it next month so I hope your new video will be out before then. Good luck on your project and thanks again.
You're so welcome. Ps. If you post a video of your Nova, I'd love to see it. I'm a car guy.......
jster1963 I'll try to make a video of before and after and let you know when I post it. If the weather does what its supposed to do I'll be painting it this Sunday. I've watched you're videos a few more times so thanks again for posting them.
Thank you! I sure hope you like yours like I like mine. Def let me know what happens.......
Nice. Getting mine today.
+Jake Lazore I hope yours works for you as good as mine has worked for me. I was using it again last week and it's still painting great. Thanks a lot and good luck....ps. HF should pay me;-)
I have this as well. Do you know if they have a replacement for the gun?
I'm not sure if HF sells a replacement gun, but it's made by a couple of different companies. I think Rockler makes this same system. Sorry I wish I could be more help. And thank you...…..
You had great technique but seemed to flow real fast when you still turned it down. Can you get a lower flow setting?
Thank you very much! Yes, you can get the flow rate down to as slow as you want. When I paint small parts that have tight corners, I turn it WAY down. Thanks again.......
jster1963 Awesome man. I may pick one up to try one out as a secondary gun. I love HF. I got a sweet palm DA air sander there for short money and its holding up well. I always fill up a cart of stuff and its like 60 Bucks LOL.
This equipment it paint cars better than compresor i used every day at my shop ,
I bought one of these after watching this review.
Thank you.
No prob! But please remember I'm just a regular guy trying to learn. I'm not a painter...
If it doesn't work, I'll sue! Only kidding.
+WILSON! LOL!!
Does air come out of the nozzel even when the trigger is not pulled? Mine does, I was wondering if this was normal.
Doug Prentice Yup. That’s normal...
@@jster1963 thank you.
i bought a Campbell Hause field spray rig very similar to the one you have although mine did come with a metal gun and cup that i venture to guess would work with yours i mostly bought it to spray Woodworking although i did spray a automobile with Dupont 2 stage automotive paint with it and a lot of alex and oil based paints and stains and in honesty i think your Harbor Freight set up is quieter btw the car came out great
That is so awesome!
Subscribed & liked, great review and honest. Ive been thinking about getting this to paint the boat & truck, SOLD!
Marco Polo Thank you for the kind words! I hope you have as much success with yours as I’ve had with mine....
Thank you im buying one tomorrow
Nice video! Can you tell me the details of the paint please?
the brand of paint, price, and where you got it, is what Id like to know THanks!!
Thanks.......
thlook cool n easy to use what is that called
what adjustment settings do you have it on I'm about to go buy one to paint rat rod any advise wld be awesome. can you upload a pic of the settings or describe please
Awesome thank you will let you know. The trigger/amount info will definitely be helpful .great vid thanks
No worries! Thank you.....
Mine just spits little tiny burst of
Paint, I was really excited I thought I would be able to quickly primer my home idk what’s going on with this
The paint has to be thinned correctly and the correct tip used. I've never used house paint in my, but auto and tractor paint works fine. Sorry and I hope you get it working right......
Adrian Diaz
Put the bigger tip innit and thin your primer.
These systems work well.
Thanks so much Adrian.....
Are you painting walls in your house? If yes use an airless paint sprayer
Did the box say anything about the pressure it develops?
Austin Hill Not that I remember. It's like a vacuum cleaner....
The manual from a different unit that seemed similar mentioned 4 psi.
What would you say about polyurethane or lacquer?
I'm really not sure, but I think some guys in my comment section have used almost everything in this gun. Good luck.....
Great video! Are you still using your Harbor Freight HVLP? Do you still think it was a good investment?
john Frederickson I still have it, but haven’t had to paint anything lately.
