- Today we dive into legendary Australian rock musician Jimmy Barnes. "Stone Cold" is the third single from his sixth studio album HEAT released in May 1993. This 2014 version featuring guitarist Joe Bonamassa is included on Jimmy's 30:30 Hindsight album which celebrates 30 years since his chart-topping debut solo album BODYSWERVE. In August 2014 it debuted at number 1 in Australia, giving Barnes his tenth solo number 1 album!

No, they probably don’t. Even watching the American movie tracks John sang on. Many had no idea who sang them. I wrote them down so I wouldn’t forget lol.

Written by Don Walker (Cold Chisel keyboard player) with his son on drums and daughter on backing vocals. This re-recorded version of the song he released in 1993 has all the soul of a man another 30 years down the road in life.
Stunning guitar and weathered vocals just puts this song in a league of its own.
Jimmy's daughter Mahalia Barnes has been a back up singer for Joe for many years and he has featured her on several tracks and has played guest spots on some of her video's with her own band. Mahalia is a powerhouse singer taking after her father. Jackie one of his sons plays drums on this song and in this clip. Jimmy's other son, David Campbell is an accomplished singer who has preformed multiple times on Broadway is well known in the theatrical world. Jimmy's wife, Jane is also very musically talented as is his other daughters as well, it oozes out of the entire family !
Jimmy is mid 50s here, still got it in spades. Man on drums is Jimmy's son Jackie. Whole family is musical. What can you say about Joe, blues guitar perfection.

Just a little about Joe. When he was 4, his dad gave him a guitar and he locked himself away with a live dvd of Eric Clapton and proceeded to learn guitar. By the time he was 12, he was opening for Blues great BB King. His story called Guitar Man can be seen on his RUclips channel.

Jimmy has kids and grandkids and they are all very talented.
I’ve seen Jimmy and Cold Chisel live many times over the years, including recently and they have always put on one hell of a show.

All Jimmy’s family, children and grandchildren sing or play musical instruments. His wife even learned the guitar. A beautiful family. I call them The Aussie Von Trapp Family lol

Jimmy born in Scotland raised in South Australia. One of his sons was on the drums in this clip.
One of his kids is playing drums here, His daughter Mahalia has her own successful career but often accompanies the auld fella.

I believe Jimmy's son, David Campbell was adopted out and became a broadway singer prior to learning Jimmy Barnes was his father. They reunited and performed several songs together. His daughters also sing professionally.
Jimmy has 7 kids, 5 are in the music 🎶 🎵 industry, his son inlaw plays bass in the family band. His daughter Mahalia has toured with Joe Bonamassa as a backup singer. 4 of his kids were in a child singing group The Tin Lids when they were, 5, 6, 7 years old. Check out Jimmy and his oldest son David Campbell, Carol's by Candlelight You'll Never Walk Alone reaction. His wife Jane learned to play guitar 🎸 during Covid. The family would sing together every night and record it to help people get thru being shut in.

A musical masterpiece that oozes soul and the blues vibes. Truely fantastic from my number 1 artist ever, Jimmy, with his son Jackie on Drums, and his daughter Mahalia on backing up vocals.
They also do a version of Lazy.
Mahalia was a back up singer for Joe.

As for Jimmy's musical family, his wife Jane has learnt to play guitar. Together they have Mahalia, EJ, Elly May and Jackie. All of these children where in a band called The Tin Lids as youngsters. Jimmy has three other children David Campbell, Amanda Bennett & Megan Torzyn. Out of the 3 last children his son David is one of the hosts of a TV morning show, and sings, more of a Broadway style, but can belt with ease too.
And he has a whole tribe of Grandchildren too. Some have now joined them on stage.
Then we must not forget Jimmy's older brother Swanee (Jimmy's birth last name was Swan).
And his brother in law is Diesel aka Johnny Diesel aka Mark Lizotte. Great guitarist. His band was Johnny Diesel and the Injectors. He married Jimmy's wife's sister.
PS John Cain of Journey fame wrote one of Jimmy's biggest hits, Working Class Man.
Hi guys, just to give you an idea how big Jimmy Barnes is in Australia. Most of his family, daughter, son, brother inlaw are all musicians. That was Jimmy's son on drums to Stone Cold in Love.
Jimmy and John Farnham did perform together on a few songs. You have to check out There's Something Wrong With My Baby, a very soulful song.
When Jimmy was in the band, Cold Chisel, their music was loud, fast and hard. Some American record executives told them they needed to tone it down to make it in the USA. Jimmy and the band didn't want to change their sound or turn it down. So they wrote a song called, You Have Nothing I Want. This song basically gave a middle finger solute to the record labels and promoters to say, we are who we are so fuck you all. That's a basic reason they never broke through in the USA but they were very popular in Europe as a hard edge Rock band.

You will love Jimmy singing "Simply The Best" with Tina Turner. Blues and Soul have been a major influence with Australian singers and musicians and songwriters. Another group to check out is the Teskey Brothers from Melbourne, Australia. I recommend the songs "Rain" and "Pain and Misery" to get started. "Hold Me" (Live at the Forum) is also great. I think they may be touring the US at the moment.
Definitely still touring here in Australia right now but they go to the US in April

Joe was in a band called Black Country Communion, with drummer Jason Bonham(yes its John's son) and Deep Purple bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes. Check out their song "Cold". Jimmy's whole family are mostly musical. His eldest daughter Mahalia has pipes like you've never heard, and his son, David Campbell had a career in the US as a big band singer like Michael Buble. Oh, and did i mention his brother in law is Johnny Diesel who is a singer/songwriter in his own right. Check out 15 feet of snow, by him. He is also very bluesy.
Australian Vanessa Amorosi is 'up there', too. Check her out on a German TV show (Top of the Pops?)singing, 'Have A Look'. For one of the best guitarists in the world check out Australian Tommy Emmanuel playing, 'Initiation' and 'Classical Gas'.

Seeing as you liked this one check out Jimmy's newer song Soothe Me by Jimmy Barnes and Sam Moore this is I and a half years ago that he did this song. Just after he turned 66 Sam Moore from the old group Sam And Dave and he was 86 when he sang this with Jimmy.
Everyone in his family is blessed with an amazing voice.
I met his cousin busking on the street and he was doing Jimmy covers and hitting every note.
His daughter and son have good musical careers.

Jimmy's gravely vocals and Joe's screaming guitar sound so great together. Jimmy's son Jackie on drums and his daughter Mahalia on backing vocals!! Cold Chisel tried the US, but got fed up with the record executives messing them around and came home and Jimmy wrote a banging song You've Got Nothing I Want as a fu to them😂. It's a shame as Cold Chisel's sound was perfect for USA audiences.
Joe Bonamassa is an amazing blues guitarist, opened for BBKing at age 12! He also sings and has a pretty good voice too. Released a track last year and was pretty good!

About 30 years, maybe longer, Jimmi had gone solo after Cold Chisel broke up.....a few years later he got all his kids together , except David Campbell, called them The Tin Lids , and they made a successful record.
Now David Campvell is a renowned singer , but not rock or pop, and a tv host / celebrity.
All his younger kids are musos / singers and most are top shelf.
Daughter Mahalia was a back up singer for Joe for a long time.
Joe sometimes let Mahalia take the leed.
Other times , all of Joes female backing singers made their own records together.
Suggest Riding With The Kings, Joe Bonamassa with Mahalia, or even better is a very nasty Mahalia singing Nasty Girl.
If you had had a lady with you, she would have added that this is a truly romantic song

Oh Dude, Chisel are not like the Eagles or Foreigner they are Cold Chisel. The 1970's and 80's was a golden time for Australian bands. As teenager and 20's in that era, Chisel were unique because they sang about our lives like no other band did. They were unique and extraordinary.
