This is exactly how I will always remember OOB.. Trip To Mars, Coal Mine, Noah's Ark, Jack and Jill slide, bumper cars, carousel, aquarium at the end of the rickety pier, guess your age guy, shooting gallery with those moving dummies with plates and dishes, karmel korn, Canadian tourists in skimpy bathing suits, pier fries, Palace Playland... then the fire in 1969. Same weekend as moon landing and Chappaquiddick

Hi Ronald. Oh yes, I remember the mules! It was called The Coal Mine, located pretty much under Noah's Ark. I remember seeing the guys taking the mules home at night and they were pretty dern ornery, being led up Old Orchard Street, bucking away!

Thanks for that bit of nostalgia. I was born in '56 and spent so many summers there as a kid and young adult. I live in CA now and haven't been since 2006. Noah's Ark! I used to be so terrified of that when i was little. When i die, i hope heaven looks like ocean park/old orchard beach.

Those figures that used to sit and stare down at you from Noah's Ark; they gave me the shivers too..I was born in 1959 in Montreal and went there with my parents and grandparents for years. Grandad loved the Red Sox. We often stayed in Wagon Wheels campground. My treat was the foot long hot dog. Still love the onion rings, my Mom's favourite! Tried for years to shoot (air rifle) the can with the dollar bill wrapped around it in one of the many booths along the side of the pier! I remember the electric eel in the aquarium. The whip and the coal mine with my Dad. Later, Fun Town USA. Ice cold sea water and those rocks at low tide. Stayed often at the Billow House. OOB was, is and always will be, the best!

WOW....I was 16 visiting Old Orchard Beach and how I loved that Pier. Looking at this video I felt for sure I saw my mom standing near the merry-go-round at the entrance of the pier. I remember the fun house and especially the mind reader "OMAR".
Bill's Pizza was also my favorite along with rides like the wrip and others. We planned our vacation every summer since 1955 through 1964 at Old Orchard Beach. Stayed at the Colonial Hotel/Motel. Dad and my brothers would go deep sea fishing in Saco, while I stayed at the beach and afternoons at the Pier. Had lots of fun with new friends from Canada staying at the motel.
Thank you for bringing back memories to me. I am now 79 yrs. old. I treasure those memories of my youth.

Wow, wiping the tears away. Thanks for memories, I grew up in So Maine and have tons of memories of OOB.I remember the night the pier burned down. I was working at the A&W in So Portland on route 1. The traffic was backed up that far from people wanting to watch the iconic pier burn. I made over $100 in tips that night, which was huge money for a car hop1969. Nothing like "pier fries" with salt and vinegar, ah the memories.

Anyone remember the Argyle House run by the Fortiers on Imperial Street? My family stayed there in 1968 and 1969.
My brother and I used to love the freight trains that went by several times a day. They were so long it took probably 15-20 minutes before you could cross the tracks.

I went through the Noah's Ark fun house at about the time of this film with my dad. I remember there were benches you would sit on and get an electric shock. Imagine something like that today! There was also a ride in which you went down into a mine and the carts were pulled by real mules. One guy's job was to reach out from a hiding place and slap the mule if it slowed down.
