I used to visit Bar Harbor back in the 70s. There were older folks who would rent out rooms in their houses for $5 a night and you got breakfast as well. I lived in Portland so going to Bar Harbor was a nice getaway during the summers. The good ole days.

@@Mitchialia , ayuhn. I preferred Portland when it was 2/3 empty and rents were bearable. Now it's mostly Massholes, New Yorkers& Californicados with grand schemes and no respect for the native population. When Strimling& Mills invited all those Somalis to come up from the Texas border and lavished them with gifts and the finest food, clothes, free iPhones, best housing in Portland, we who love Maine cried foul.

@@annaserale9850 Eastern Montana and Western Montana are 2 very different places. I live in western Montana in Helena. Bozeman is the gateway to Yellowstone. Kalispell is the gateway to Glacier. If you travel from Billings to Butte to Missoula (perhaps a side trip to Helena) you have seen a good portion. I live on Hauser Lake which is part of the Missouri River. We have 3 lakes near Helena - Canyon Ferry, Hauser, and Holter. The Gates of the Mountains (named by Lewis and Clark) are on Holter. You can take a boat ride through them.

I was born and raised in Maine and have visited almost every summer for over 40 years. We moved from Fairfield to South Portland in 1944 so my mom could work in the shipyard building liberty ships. Moved to Portland in 1949 and lived there until I entered the military in 1954. My first winter away from home was in Biloxi MS and it made me determined to never spend another freezing winter in Maine or anywhere. When I was a boy I remember how old and dirty the Portland waterfront was. The best parts of the city were the Eastern and Western promanards where the upper classes lived. I am pleased to see how the urban renewal has made the Old Port a nice place to visit and has attracted tourists. The cruise ships seem to be a real boon to the tourist industry. I love to visit Maine and my many family members but at the end of September I point my van south and head home to Texas. Bye the bye, this was a very good video of Maine and the coastal towns and should draw many tourists.

We didn't get to see the mountains, but I figure we'll make another trip in the future. I got to speak with some native Mainers and unfortunately they were also going through housing issues. The influx of people from out of state was changing the local real estate landscape this one couple told me. But I feel Maine has a lot going for it. As for riding a bicycle up the Cadillac Road...make sure your life insurance is paid up!
