Seen it, it was a waste of time. Different ppl different taste. What i liked in it was the music, the athmosphere of the world. But the character writings, the way they cut the scenes was horrible. The end plot empty. There was no logic in the written world, the writer just dreamed about the plot and wrote it down, no consistency, logic. Really false into the junk movies, where you ignore facts, and just do it to make it shovy. The really bad point was overall, that it kinda promises you, that it will bloom out in the end and buuum zero creativity hits in.

Ergo Proxy is from the time when creators still gave slow burn anime a chance. It wasnt made with intention to just hook people in, it was made because it had a story that needed to be told. It might not be for everyone, but even if its not to your taste, you would have hard time arguing against its quality. Emma, Wolf's Rain, Witch Hunter Robin...not many have watched these, but anime community should be really thankful that they exist

@@Navhkrin Texhnolyze is a bit hard to digest, it's very slow in most places and if you don't already know or are aware of several philosophical concepts it's most likely hard to read out of the series. Ergo Proxy got a few slow episodes as well I think could've been directed with more pragmatism. For some movies and series, I had to turn to Wisecrack to understand some things that are either talking about IN the medium, or conveyed subtly and takes for granted the viewer knows. I mean, if you spout E=mc^2 without the observer understanding it's significance then the intention is moot. Let's take Ghost in the Shell, for example, the scene with Puppet Master and Motoko - they're talking about Sublation and explains the concept - it's more than most movies and series do.
The movie "The Fountain" is another great example.

I think Ergo Proxy doesn't need any sequel. It's a character driven show and the main characters finished their arcs in the last episode, so they reached their goal.
The ending is so open because the viewer needs to find his own truth about it, like the Adminstrator's autoreivs said to Re-l when she demanded the truth about everything.

Yes. It felt like they all finally hit their groove and that they would be facing a new very challenging adventure, and they were doing it armed with knowing who they were, what the world was, and who the other two were. And as much as that does complete the arc well. I think that can seen be a bomb ass adventure. Especially challenging others perceptions of the world. We got a lot of that in the only season but it wasn't their fully formed versions, they were still seeking answers and developing. And there's alwaus more growth to be had.

Interestingly enough, I liked the beginning of the anime more than the ending. Last episode kinda felt way too much like a Deus Ex Macinha (no wonder that's the episode name) - or there were just too many ideas to be put in that last bit of series. I think the producers added some narratively weird or not so important episodes through it all and left the big stuff in a confusing mess for the last episode.
Still, it was a good ride. I loved the characters, especially Pino.
And kudos on the video, man. Really liked your editing and the lo-fi transitions you added, got yourserlf a subscriber. I think it works well, because I don’t think we see character development, or believe it as fully, if we know the secrets of the world as we watch the first time through. On a second watch, you see how many times things in the ending are referenced but were impossible to notice. Sure, it might be a partial indictment that it really requires two watches to fully understand, but it’s very good nonetheless.

see this comment right here is why i say it's an amazing show but not for everyone, basically it's awesome if you understand the story, but not if you don't, many of the episodes end up getting bogged down in their own pretentious presentation of trying to be a mindfuck thriller, it's kind of like half the episodes are from the movies memento or the machinist lol, but then there's other episodes like the fillery gameshow one, that straight up tell you the plot and lore of the show in a massive exposition dump (which I'll argue was actually necessary since the show is very hard to follow if you aren't paying close attention) basically i think the last episode makes sense in the context of the shows story, but only if you know all the details of the story aka looked up the lore after watching lmao, like for example the lore reason why all the proxies are weak to sunlight and the symbolism behind that being the case and why that would be the ending of a character... but i really think all the episodes have a purpose in the context of the series but not necessarily for building the plot lol, and what i mean by that is the series uses, as i said, a lot of symbolism and such to convey greater messages outside the plot and that's where i think every episode is great and has a purpose, but i imagine that's not for everyone because some people don't want to sit through such a pretentious, inception-style way of presenting the shows message.

I actually just got done watching this a week or two ago. In the end, my feelings were mixed. At least to some extent, however, in a way opposite to you. I was sucked in immediately, and intrigued at almost every step. It was the latter half which I was maybe a bit less enamored with and it was the strength of the first third or half of the series that made me endure some parts of the later episodes. I also *loved* the artwork, and the music paired perfectly with it to set the atmosphere of the story. If there was any part of the soundtrack which might have been done better or differently, it would be the sacral music, but this is a mild criticism since that music was chosen for a reason. It *did* sort of clash with the rest of the soundtrack, though.

If you haven't already give Code Geass a chance. (at least season 1 .. it's your choice wether or not you want to pretend that it ends there or if the second season exists.. it's not bad but it starts hella weired in s2 )
      What is Code Geass?
      A highschool teen drama.
A highschool teen drama with Mech combat. (don't run away, read on little soldier)
A highschool teen drama with Mech combat in a world where Britain has conquered most of the world and created a 2 class scociety.
A highschool teen drama with mech combat in a world where Britain has conquered most of the world and created a 2 class scociety, with a big brain moraly ambiguous mastermind as a protagonist.
I will stop the repeats here..
The protagonist get's a nice little power which he uses to facilitate his ambitions (kicking the brits out of japan) but since he is not a member of the resistance and does not stumble into the resistance like most other movies / shows would have him do it he ..kinda hijacks them and uses them for his purpose.
There are some good characters, some annoying characters, some very good character development, some rather poor character development and most of all: The "good guys" are not neccessarily good > AND < they don't always win. Code Geass walks a moral line, dipping into both sides and over the runtime actually shifts some characters from one side to the other. It is not quite death note season 1, but it is close enough to get a full recommendation (even though it's a school - teen drama with mechs .. 3 things I really REALLY don't like.)

You mentioned the first 3 episodes being decent and I'd say they're great. There's a dip in the beginning for sure but I don't think it's that bad.
Also, while the main OST is kinda meh it does have amazing OP's and EDs. They somehow licensed Radiohead's "Paranoid Android". Those who know that early 00's band, that's all I need to say. An anime. Licensed. Radiohead's "Paranoid Android". For those who don't, they were an iconic Alternative rock / experimental band that hit it big in the late 90's to early 00's. Them and Beck could be considered to be 2 of the heavy hitters for introducing modern Alt rock to the main stream.

Basically Earth is gone to shit, space humans created Proxies for recovery by creating cities and peeps inside a "Dome" that shields poison outside and harsh conditions. But the Proxies realized that they'll just die when the recovery is finished, so they became doomers and it made Earth go to a shittier state. One of these is Ergo, who left his dedicated server to an old dude, and proceeds to Vergil'ed himself with the help of another proxy homie Monad, and caused Vincent to pop out. The old dude said "That's a massive L", so he invaded Monad's server and captured her, experimented her, Re-L pops out in one of the attempts, and adopted her, W.
Yada yada yada, shit happens left and right, Vincent and Re-L met, Pino was there. They fought, traveled outside the Dome, killed other Proxy, met other Proxy, and now they're back on their original Dome, who is gone to shit. Vincent met his other half Ergo, they proceed to fist each other while the entire city crumbles, Ergo dies of cringe. Monad was back, tries to convince Vincent to join her, but Vincent goes "Nah, -Re-L is hotter- I love humans" so he goes back to Earth and stays there. Monad flew and dies to sunlight because space humans said so, and they are coming back to Earth with their spaceship like the coming of Christ.

What really threw me off was the philosophy of it. I got so caught up in trying to figure out what it's message was or whether it was an allegory for something, and ended up getting completely lost, missing most of the story. Really it's a story and a philosophical argument and you have to understand both at the same time as it all unravels.
I considered watching it again to really appreciate it, but it was quite draining the first time through.

i remember this series so vividly even though it's been years since i last saw it, and it's not because of the story that i do, like even when you sift through all the inception level mindfuckery and really figure out every plot point and the over-arching entire story, it isn't mind-blowing or anything crazy, it's interesting but not really a standout imo. After thinking about it, what makes this series really so memorable for me is the philosophical messages presented and the style used to present them. A great example of this is the lake episode, which is also my favorite episode because to me it perfectly represented the series overall. It had nothing to do with the main story, it was just another episode where they are on their journey and fight another proxy, but what made it special to me was the message of the episode and how it was delivered as well as how the story was told, it unraveled like a real mystery, a psychological thriller that keeps you guessing and then when you figure the mystery out, it makes you reflect on yourself, just really cool storytelling. By lake ep btw, i mean the one where they land in the abandoned 1950s styled town and it's deserted and then there's it seems like they're getting stalked by something and then the climax happens at the lake at the center, just the whole time, the atmosphere was unnerving and the shape shifting proxy made it very trippy, and then you learn the story and you get the very sad metaphor presented through the bad guy about self-image, lol see it's been years yet i remember basically the whole episode, sick show bruh.

Yeah, it’s also a show that demands a rewatch anyway. It hides the ball a lot, but it does it really, really well. We don’t even actually hear of the main antagonist until episode 15, for instance. But the absence of knowing that is necessary for the initial suspense and building. On second watches, you see how much they actually told you, hinted at, or referenced. Every episode has tons of tie ins to later revelations that you won’t understand until you’ve seen it once.
