We want to share our passion for efficient, sustainable homesteading that brings the family together. On our homestead we do chemical-free gardening, grass-fed milk and beef, pastured eggs and broiler chickens, and free range children :) We love to go on adventures as a family, so if we're not workin on the farm, we're probably hiking or out getting ice cream. We're all into DIY, and being inventive and creative. We believe in homesteading that's sustainable, not just sustainable homesteading. In other words, we want to show you that homesteading doesn't have to wear you out to the point that you give it up. We've seen it happen, and almost came to that point ourselves. And life happens! Now this is true reality and so refreshing after all of the "fake"reality they show on "reality TV"! I started and stopped cleaning the chicken coop and putting in more wood chips about three times because of rain. Even then my husband had to finally finish the job of removing the old wood chip to the compost pile. God bless y'all and keep growing.

I love the two of you. Cody, you have the brains to make things without instructions to benefit your family. Michelle, you are so easy going...when the world is crashing. Your mind is strictly on your family and making sure they have what they need to grow. I watch several similar utube channels. You two make me laugh throughout your videos 🤭.

A newbie here. I saw the instragram photo. I have old windows lying around. I would love to put them to use. Years ago, I had a friend who made a cold frame with concrete blocks and old windows.
Years ago, I lived at a place where we had 3 rows of raspberries. I trimmed mine with pruners. I took one row out because it was time-consuming, and I could not keep up with 3 rows. I had 2 young boys and was pregnant with the third child at the time.
Having a variety of berries is nice. That is a plan of mine. I have wild Raspberries - Red and Black here. I planted Blackberries because the wild ones are so tiny and so few.

The new raised bed is beautiful. I just have a question about the concrete blocks. I read somewhere a couple years ago not to use them where one is planting food to eat because there are chemicals in the concrete that will leach into the food. I take it you haven’t heard that? I love your videos.

  • @timmahan4123

I would recommend sealing the cedar with linseed oil not stain. The chemicals from the stain can leach into the soil. Just something to keep in mind with any health issues.

Avery very pleasant video, do you like olives, if you do, get some of the nice ones without stones whatever your favourite is and chop in half or quarters whatever you like and add to your bread dough this makes a great soup bread or pretzel them even pizza them it’s a great way to give some bread alittle different flavour.

Great tips! Glad my lettuce can go out tomorrow :) I could do with a grow lamp, but since I’ve only got two mouths to feed and a small plot, I’ll manage without a little longer. I’d never heard of a naturopath, but we’ve been eating broccolisprouts for years. Lots of vegetables make good sprouts. Radish, leek. But you’re method is so much better than mine! I’ll look for jars with a handy top like yours. Thank you!

71 and Useless Eater here. Just when I get the credit card paid down, Michelle shows these lids. I just ordered 4! I have microgreen trays which work well but I like the jar deal better. I'm planning on putting in a raised bed like yours. As you know, we have basically the same climate here. Years ago I bought a box (10) of plexiglass sheets (2x4') to replace old double hung windows in the greenhouse. Just cut them in half with a circular saw. My problem is that if there is glass within 50 feet of me, I bust it. I've used it to replace windows. It comes with a protective sheet on both sides that you just peel off. I just leave it on to break up direct rays. So when you buy a stainless steel hose roller upper some day and Michelle finds out and hucks an acorn squash at you from the garden and breaks the raised bed glass - well, there ya go! (Been awhile since I polluted your comment section) Another good video. 🙂

Broccoli sprouts will also raise your Natural Killer Cells which can get extremely low with things like Chronic Lyme Disease.

How does the flavor of broccoli sprouts compare to alfalfa sprouts? Used to love those as a kid. 9:46

It's been too long since I've had alfalfa sprouts 😏 I'm thinkin fairly similar, but broccoli maybe a little more spicy.

I've got something fun for you to try with your raspberries this year ( if you don't already do this). Pick them with only your thumb. Flick your thumb downward and rub the raspberries off into your hand. Time saver for me. P.S. you can feed extra raspberries to thise pigs you're getting... right?

Might sprout organic hard red Winter wheat berries and grow into grass, juice the grass or blend with water and strain. Heals everything, gives energy.
Another thing that seems to cure everything is carnivore diet.

you might not need to wait for hinges. Just sticks alone might do the trick.

What? You had to go to Lowe's more than once? No way! I think my husband goes 3-4 times per garden or house project and fortunately it is only a mile away.

Please do not try to fit that blade on your trimmer!! Your trimmer is not made for a blade. You need to go into a small engine repair shop that sells trimmers and chainsaws so you can get something that is made for a Blade.
