True story, I had a vanity in our bedroom that had clothes folded waiting to be put away. The vanity faced the west side of our home. There was also 2 full size glass doors which allowed the sun to shine on the vanity mirror. It was later in day about 6 or 7 pm when I went into our bedroom which was smoky. The smoke was heaviest over the vanity. I quickly started pulling the clothing away from the mirror and found a small smoldering burning hole in a cotton blouse. The sun reflection must have hit the mirror and made a hotter reflection onto the clothing. I was stunned and would never have believed if I hadn't seen it myself! You may want to make sure your mirror is facing shade or north. Jeff is right!
It really shouldn't work like that unless something creates a lensing effect, like a magnifying glass, or even eye glasses, which concentrates the light into a point--otherwise why would it be different than sunlight just coming in the window? But I'm guessing that mirrors are usually not perfectly flat, so maybe what can happen is that those imperfections can act like a lens and focus the light into a spot. Definitely better safe than sorry!
I gotta agree with Jeff on the mirror. I had an orb, set it on my truck seat(I was moving). Came out with another box and my seat in the truck was smokin
Maybe you can "disarm" the mirror by painting a patina over it? I know that people in the south of France and in Spain (used to) lime wash the windows of their greenhouses for the hot summer months to keep plants from burning or getting too hot.
Dani please continue in your garden house plants and peppers ,amazing! You get can plant more flowers inside and most importantly plant peppers, thay grow awsome your amazing and give me so much inspiration and I 63.and love your channel Thank you for your great idea and:God bless you and your family honey ❤
😅same, I once grew some Incredible looking carrots tops I waited for Months to pick them … it was just a baby lil nub 🥹 legitimately had a “baby carrot 😂 like the size of a finger tip lol!!!
Fun fact. 2 weeks ago I almost burned my house down accidentally because of my makeup mirror. It was literally just sitting in the house and the sun hit it at the perfect spot and started burning my living room chair. I woke up to the smell of smoke and a huge whole in my chair. So yes you could possibly catch something on fire 😂
Recent news story here in Australia: farming family went out for a day on the Easter weekend, having moved a glass vase of flowers onto an outdoor dining table on their patio. Came home to find the sunlight concentrated through the vase had destroyed the wooden table top and charred a large smoking hole into the wooden deck beneath.
I’m only a couple of minutes in but need to tell you how cool your hair looks. It’s so healthy. I’m hoping this is a sign of less stress. Congratulations to your patience!
I heard recently that everyday you should get 30 minutes of sunlight within the first 2 hours of waking. So morning in the greenhouse is ideal for mental health.
I couldn't stop smiling at around 12-13 minutes in. You talking and Kenobi just staring in from the door. LOVE this series. Especially seeing you share such sweets moments with Jeffery. Can't wait to see everything growing.
Hi Danie! I love the transformation of the greenhouse! It makes me happy just looking at it! I would paint the knob yellow (maybe with small black dots on it) because it reminds me of a flower and it matches the flowers above!❤
"we want a fence! We want a fence! We want a fence!" But seriously tho. It took me a day and a half to build a 12'x6' garden fence with pallets and it changed the whole dynamic with the critters. I had lost sooooooooo many cucumber, pea, bean plants and I was feeling very defeated. It looks cottage-y and I love it. The greenhouse is dreamy. I love all the little details. the bench, the planters, the sculptures, the colors. It will be a great inspiration for my own. Thank you
Yes please, fence for us and the safety of your plants. 😉 Your cute little cottage greenhouse looks gorgeous. And I have to agree with many of the other comments- your hair is looking great, Kenobi is such a sweetheart and please be careful with the mirror. It would be a heartbreaker if there was a fire.
I am not a commenter usually.. but Danie, you are a star, everything you touch, create, imagine with such deep feeling of love. The pepper house is absolutely fabulous. Mr Vincent is smiling from the clouds and is so proud of you, honey. You are one of the best souls on this earth. An example. Thank you so so much. And please take care of your back. I know how it feels and it ain’t sugar ❤
The doorknob looks like a flower. So so cute! I didn’t think that white was going to be as nice as the wood but it’s better! The door is perfect and makes the window above pop. Just so pretty!!!
Alyssum is amazing for repelling aphids and bugs that want to eat your vegetables before you do! It smells sweet and looks pretty, so it is a win-win plant…no matter how you pronounce it 😊
When I worked for a janitorial company, one of the businesses I worked for was an eye doctor. They had mirrors on their counters for people to see themselves when trying on glasses. On one occasion, I went to work and noticed a long narrow burn mark in one of the chairs. We concluded that the mirror was at just the right angle with the sun that it reflected the sun and literally burned a line in the char as the sun set. SCARY! If that chair had been of a cotton type fabric, I have no doubt it would have caught on fire. I'd angle the mirror down, in your greenhouse, to not allow the sun to reflect from it.
You can tell Jeff he does not need to worry about plants cross-pollinating unless you are saving seeds from the plants you grow this year for next year. The seed you put in the ground already has all the blueprint plans in its DNA for the fruit it produces. So yeah no Zucumbers this year.
As someone who has been gardening for over 10 years, it makes me so happy to see people try gardening for the first time. For someone who is new to gardening, I think you are doing an amazing job. From that gorgeous, reclaimed greenhouse (I think painting it was an amazing decision by the way) to the quality, handmade raised beds, I think you are off to an amazing start. I also love your perennial choices. Catmint, Salvia, Phlox, and Dianthus are amazing, hardy perennials for the garden and are perfect for creating that cottage look. In addition to coming back every year, they flower their heads off and are easy to divide after they are established. Some other hardy perennials that I suggest for a cottage garden are Baptisia, Russian sage, Dwarf Joe Pye Weed, Penstemon, Black Eyed Susans, Echinacea, Coreopsis, Ground Cover Sedum, Prairie Dropseed Grass, Butterfly Weed (Milkweed), Fireworks Goldenrod, Yarrow, Chives, Ornamental Onion (Allium), Iris, and Clematis. I hope this helps. I can't wait to see your garden evolve.
You and Jeff are so adorable-so is Kenobi-sweet little family. I just love your Pepper House. Oh, the beautiful things you will grow!! Suggestion: maybe put two little black window boxes under the windows on each side of your red pepper door-might make it feel less Oh Canada 🇨🇦. With or without any window boxes, it all looks spectacular, fun, and whimsical. If I was a flower or pepper, your garden is where I would like to grow. 🌸🌺🌻🌶️🫑🌶️
Regarding to the subject of the mirror. I would not advice to place it in the greenhouse. 😬 I had an acquaintance, who had a small mirror hanging in his sunroom, which caused a fire due to the sunrays being reflected unto the wooden beam panels. He had to rebuild the sunroom and the insurance wouldn’t cover it, since it was considered human negligence on his part 😬
I ❤ the greenhouse series!! You and Geoffrey remind me of a younger version of my husband and myself. Gardening is the one thing we both really enjoy doing together. Happy gardening to you both.
Just make sure the mirror is in a space where the sun won't reflect off of it and you should be good. 💛 The garden space and greenhouse are looking so beautiful! I'm so envious 😍
The mirror - possibly, as the sun reflects off the mirror, which magnifies the rays, projecting onto a plant, and VIOLA'!! You have 🔥 Over all, this is beautiful! You have the perfect oasis! Well done, Danie, very well done!! Have a blessed day and a fab weekend/week!! xxoo
Wow! I’m loving it! All your updates came out beautifully ❤ please show your grown flowers and veggies on RUclips please I’m not on any social media platforms not into it. Thanks for sharing on your journey
Hi danny good morning! (Its morning here in brazil rn hihi) Just wanted to say that maybe you should reaserch a lil bit on better help. I've seen some problematics around the company, it would be nice to just make sure that you are confortable with being sponsored by them!

🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 yes! Painting the greenhouse was a great idea! It looks beautiful 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 I love the bench idea, too. All the flowers are so pretty, can’t wait to see what the seed mixture produces. 🌸
Very very sweet....the mirror keep... just watch the direction of sun and make sure its not in direct sunlight...my neighbour started her couch on fire in the house by a mirror on her fence...when we are watching you then the ball rolls into the scene, just cracks me up...please mommy throw it...I said that in my head in your voice....lol..
Kenobi tryin to get you guys to play with him while you're working; your hubby being called 'bodacious'; "grow my pretties"; your ability to be your authentic self - these are some of the things I enjoyed about this video - oh, and the greenhouse!
At first, my thought was that as long as you did checks hourly, every season, like one day each season checking it, it would be fine as long as you had your reflection going somewhere other than toward the plants. Then I realized that your building is wooden and that could catch fire. Then I thought it would be OK if the reflection went towards the window, but then I realized it could still reflect back on some of the wooden building or a plant. I might be on the side of your husband and it might be a bad idea to have a mirror outside.
I remember when you had no confidence with plants and had to have your mother come over to help you plant a bit of garden around your house. Now look at you! You've turned into a plant lady! So fun.
I really enjoyed this video, but honestly I think it’s time for an entire video dedicated to you throwing a ball or frisbee to Kenobe. He’s such a good boy! 🎾🐕🐾
if you can find a spot in the greenhouse where the mirror gets no direct sun, it should be fine. But also, the real danger is in glass that concentrates the light (like a magnifying glass) not necessarily in something that simply reflects light. And the little window crystals that make rainbows actually refract light, which is why they are safe.
I've always been told to be careful of mirrors in the sunlight. I even keep my mirror that sits on my vanity facing a certain way so the sun doesn't hit it in the afternoon. Not sure if it's necessary, but it's always in the back of my mind... BUT, I have seen mirrors in plenty of shade gardens and they are beautiful! ;)
The mirror: make it face the north, ie., away from the sun. The greenhouse - wonderful! The beds - fantastic! The pots - beautiful! The choice of veggies and flowers - sooooo good! All the best to you both.
Poor kenobi just waiting for the ball to be thrown 😂. I like the black knob. It would also look cute if you painted the white part yellow. It would look like a sunflower door handle
The garden and greenhouse DIYs are some of my favorite recent videos from you because I am shamelessly living vicariously through you until the day I can have my own garden.
It’s really beautiful! Dani grounding by putting your hands in the dirt literally can relieve depression and anxiety. Lots of people also go barefoot outdoors to ground themselves. Am sure you probably know this already but I’m so glad doing these outdoor projects gives you joy. 😊
Everything looks fabulous! Love the door - I think the black and white knob looks like a flower, so kudos to that. Kenobi and his balls - what a cutie and so patient waiting for another toss.
Please throw the ball for Kenobi. He was so patient waiting for you to finish talking to us. Also should have a ball throwing counter for outside videos.
❤Danie, it's all looking fabulous! Can't believe as queen of the puns you missed the opportunity to refer to the jalapenos in the bath as " The Hot Tub"! 😆👍
I love your channel. You are so much fun! A bench at the end of the raised beds would be cute too! You could sit there and see the greenhouse and the beds!
I have a room in my house where my vanity for putting on makeup is against a window. The light coming in from the window hit my makeup mirror and set a towel on my vanity on fire.
There is nothing better than eating what you grow. Keep a journal and make notes on the ones that thrive and which didn’t. This helps with a better garden next year. This is my 3 rd year and I’m growing so well it’s encouraging! And in the desert that’s amazing
It’s always rad to see more people getting into gardening! I find that I get sick of the daily watering along with the regular maintenance of weed pulling, repotting, etc. So I recently got an irrigation system and that has made my life a lot easier
Danie, your greenhouse is absolutely beautiful, the flowers, the pots, all the colourful accents make for a charming and relaxing space for you both to chill together, alone or with family and friends. Nailed it! Please show us what the lights look like in the evening in an upcoming video? Blessings to you and all your followers for a wonderful summer.
I wasn't in favor of you painting the greenhouse but you were right -- the white with the red door is perfect! I had one little jalapeño plant in my planter last summer and it produced many peppers. They start out green, turn orange and then red. I gather you can eat them at any stage. We had too many to eat so, in the fall, I picked all of the ones left on the plant, strung them on a fishing line, hung them off the cork bulletin board in my kitchen and they dried beautifully. I've used them in various dishes and they're great.
I am building some burned cedar planters for my bamboo plants, and I had been using 2x2s for the corner supports in the boxes. They were working okay, but I couldn’t secure them in as many places as I wanted to and at least one of them was cracking. After I saw your video last week I went back to the store to get 4x4s like you used for the corner supports in your beds and they are much sturdier now! Plus then I was able to move the screws holding the boards to the 4x4s farther away from the ends of the boards, which was both easier and reduced the risk of cracking! So thanks for showing your process, it really helped me with my project. (Though dang, 8 foot 4x4s are heeeeeavy)

So true, I hope she reads this & hears the warning ⚠️

@@e.458 That's neat, thank you! :-)
I agree that the mirrror is cute, but have seen plants catch on fire in my grandmas because of a mirror 😢
Kenobi is so patient. And hopeful. He just stands there and waits for you to throw the ball. Over and over again. 😍😂🤣
That's exactly what I was going to say! He's just standing there wondering when his human would be paying HIM the attention he deserves. 🤣
He livened up as he was biting the water from the hose. 😂💖

As a serial plant killer I really admire people that can grow things 😂❤
Haha you can do it!!!!!!!
I have gotten incredibly better at keeping things alive but I still buy faux plants. I can kill herbs before they get out of the original pot. 😂

Agreed! I have a living 23 year old son... why is that easier than a tomato plant??
Just keep trying. Are you over watering or under. Setting alarms helps

Was in a concave mirror so it concentrated the sun into one hot spot? 😳
Am i the only one who can't focus on Dannie because of Kenobi waitin patiently at the background? Please throw that ball for the little boy!!
Your husband is right about mirrors and the sun. I once had a yard sale, and a make-up mirror caused a stack of flash cards to catch fire.
It’s not a green house. You officially have your own white house. 🤩
The time spent with husband doing all the gardening - so precious! ❤

Hi danny good morning! (Its morning here in brazil rn hihi)
Just wanted to say that maybe you should reaserch a lil bit on better help. I've seen some problematics around the company, it would be nice to just make sure that you are confortable with being sponsored by them!
Where is the info on BH, everyone seems to be sponsored by them. I can't find any issues concerning the company 😊
Reddit has a lot of info on why Better Help is not a good company.
I agree with Jeffrey about the mirror. My son caught a smoldering curtain that a mirror caught on fire in my Mom's bathroom. It can be so dangerous.
Love everything you are doing!
It is funny how the simpler things of life bring happiness. It makes me happy to see you so full of joy!
This video is therapeutic. Your garden exudes calm, comfort and love. There is nothing so healing as "diggin' in the dirt."
Bright Blessings! 🌻🌻🌻☀🌻🌻🌻

Your greenhouse is like a fairytale! Yes, do the fence but also paint the garden boxes too and it will pull it all together! ❤❤❤
Dani its just perfect!! :-)
I love your hair! AND, last week when you announced painting the greenhouse. I was like…noooooooo! I was wrong. I love it!
I love love the greenhouse all white with the red door and all of the beautiful flowers!!
Quick tip, zucchini plants get huge. They will take over that raised bed and spread out over the area around the bed.
It is soooo beautiful!! And just knowing that it will properly grow in in the years to come, I can't wait to see it!!
Rhubarb, sad😢 soak it before planting. Too late now, just pray😊
So freaking beautiful! But enough about the little moments with you and Jeffrey.
The garden and greenhouse are so perfect! ❤
❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful, enchanting and peaceful garden.
I like the door knob, looks like a flower from a distant. Painting greenhouse white really makes it pop, beautiful 🤩
Whenever I am indecisive or in a rut with my gardening I know I can watch one of your videos and feel so much motivation ❤️
Really nice to have a mirror two get foreign objects out of your eye during gardening❤❤
It's actually a classic greenhouse decoration to have a mirror inside. In England, there are very often mirrors in greenhouses as decor.
