When they banned the grabbing of legs in Judo they made it a big advantage to be tall, just look at Teddy Rainer, he became Unstoppable after they instituted the ban

I have been saying this for years. People doing judo keep denying it, and yet, then came Bilodid and she strained herself incessantly in order not to go up a weight category. Why? Because she was taller than anyone in her division and was wrecking them all by using her height too. If you can't attack the legs, suddendly there's little punishment for tall guys to keep you 50 km away so you can't literally do anything, and then just throw in some uchi mata from the other side of the field when you finally make the slightest mistake while trying somehow to enter inside their space.

@@36424567254 we see this principle proven in Greco-Roman wrestling where its universally understood that height is an advantage! Teddy Reiner became completely Unstoppable the moment they banned leg attacks and his Greco-Roman wrestling counterpart Mijan Lopez has an identical build... the more you narrow the scope of your sport the more you Advantage one body type, that's why MMA is the light, it proves anybody can fight! I remember when I first started competing in kickboxing, the same guys that completely dominated me in that sport were easy prey for me on the MMA mat because I could scoop their legs out from underneath them!

I feel very vindicated because I've been saying for years that the 2010 leg grab ban transformed Judo into the "art of throwing people smaller than you as efficiently as possible"

@@BURGAWMMA height can be a disadvantage in wrestling too it’s just physics the lower the center of gravity the more stable you are and harder to throw

Great video thanks! I was also wondering however if you could make a video on tall vs short. It feels like tall is always the bad guy but i struggle more with short and strong people compared to talk and lanky.

Definitely need this, I’m a pretty muscular guy but this typically means I get some taller dudes in my weight class. I know technically that should give me some advantage but I have a tough time getting in on my attacks against them, I also find my foot sweeps and reaps aren’t quite is effective which is tough because I like to use them to set up my throws. Think I may need to alter my style a bit against taller guys.

pro tip: if you ever find yourself asking “am I too old?” try the thing anyway. If it works, everyone can look to you as the example and say “well he started at 40 and is doing it.” and if it doesn’t, then just try the next thing.
