I love the teachers calm and collected attitude. He's analysing, watching, and speak in a soft voice, yet you can cleary see and feel his passion and love for the sport, his eye for details and his experience as a teacher! Would love to train under this sensei!
Excellent teaching. I like when you say off-balance direction should be slightly diagonal or lateral. I do this with harai goshi as well. Also about rhythm as one movement so you're not losing the benefit of your movement energy.
Do you have any tips about how to pratice judo at home? I used to train 5x per week, but not only about 2-3 because of work. Wanted to try praticing at home.
In judo ? Of course not. If hes olympians in another sport ? Maybe. I say this because in judo, to be at olympics you must be ranked like 1# in your weight class, thats something soooo much hard.@@counterkidnapping1737
There's a misconseption that uchi mata is near side leg and hane is far side leg. Uchi mata is "inner thigh" so as long as you contact in between the legs it is typically an uchi mata. Hane goshi frames in front of uke's leg and hip. These style of uchi matas are very close to what a classical hane goshi is.
loved this video! the difference in skill was apparent even in the kuzushi. when the black belt did the kuzushi and tsukuri he was always moving backwards 😲
For the 1st judoka.:Since he is taller than his uke, is it not necessary for tori to get underneath his uke to throw him, or is it only necessary to maintain body contact to throw ?
This video is very good. Although I think the movement maybe isn't like Ogoshi, but like Ukigoshi, as far as I understand it ( I am no good at uchi mata, I am just a nerd nitpicking the details, sorry ). Those beginners are great ! They are better than me at this technique. Awesome.
@@erwinoskar554 The first one (and the others, have to rewatch maybe) are uchi mata. Tore's leg hits the inside of uke's leg. It looks very similar to hane goshi. If all they did was make contact in front of uke's leg and hip, so enter a bit more perpendicular, it would become a hane goshi.
Thank you for sharing this video! Although I myself am a sandan in Judo, I will be the first to admit that my Uchimata is extremely poor. The lessons imparted by this video will definitely help me to improve my technique.🇵🇭🥋🙏🙂
I've only been doing Judo about 6 months from BJJ but I love the turf war judo seems to have to if Uchi Mata is a Hip throw or Leg technique at this point they should just create two separate throws. Before I get flamed kodokan does list the throw as a Ashi Waza and is done from a side angle on in their demonstrations.
It is an ashi waza especially when done "classicaly", but when done as a competitive style you get more hip involvement. Just like when doing seoi nage, it is a te waza (hand technique) but you can still use your hips to execute the throw.
@@cucciafr68 My understanding though is when it is done competitivly they still never hit the far leg it's more straight up the middle. Although I completely see what you're driving at and agree.
@@domwood3251 Yes, what tends to happen in comp is you hit up the middle or the near side leg. But it is practiced aiming for the far side leg. It is more difficult to get that deep on a resisting opponent as they are moving away from you, but if you undershoot, you catch the closer leg. And if you over shoot you can get the harai.
@@cucciafr68 The more I think about this the more it seems a spectrum of pure tilt on one end being Ashi Waza Uchi Mata then hip Uchi Mata as you move the throw more to a hip throw then hane, then Ashi Garuma then Harai Goshi as you move your impact point of your leg around the far leg until you turn the corner and your back to Osoto being a backwards tilt Uchi Mata in principle (head down, leg up) so i am still partial to the debate of if it's Uchi Mata or Hane gosh as I'm starting to think it's a blurring of the boundaries, which is fine throws teach judo, not judo teach throws. But if people are gonna claim that a uchi Mata with hane like properties is Uchi Mata and say that a Ashi Waza Uchi is also a uchi Mata might as well give it a different name. Especially if they differentiate between say tsuri Goshi and O Goshi just on grip.
Thank you Sensei Shintaro for your video. One question: Tori's right leg in "Uchi Mata" goes between or outside both Uke's legs ? I think there are different ways of doing Uchi Mata.
@@rieske2000 it did not look like harai-goshi. They all resemled hane-goshi and kinda uchi-mata where sweeping leg touches ukes left thigh (or right sided tech). That is reason why hane-goshi is so rare. I do uchi-mata more to left leg. But there are so many of them.
This video messed around with me for a while, given that they reap the other leg and looks very different from other Uchi Mata videos. After your comment searched Hane Goshi and it's 1 for 1 technique to this video.
@@arhael3594 I made sure I wasn't just spouting miss-information. I asked my sensei who has 6th dan rank in Judo and he also said it was hane goshi. P.S. He watched the video, so it wasn't just me describing the throw to him.
I find it weird, when a 30 year old judoka is being corrected. There is a style component and how it works best for your individual body. Someone that practices for 30 years would do it the way it most fits them even if it is slightly different from another master.
@@nickelmanful Not talking about myself. The point is the guy in the video has been doing judo for 30 years. Presumably he has mastered the technique and been practicing for decades, and whatever the tiny things he does different is result of his style/individual body.
You are stupid. 30 years does it mean he’s mastered shit. If there was an Olympian in the room that only trained for 15 years the technique would be a lot cleaner.

I started Judo in November, your videos are a huge help to understand all the little details.
A big thank you from Paris, France.
Wow! I did the same, on November 4th. 2023. Saturday, so I had all the weekend to recover 😅

I find it hard to do at home. I like shadow boxing at home because it helps with reach and footwork.
Shintaro Sensei, you make me wish I was in San Jose. I wish I had this level of training in the 90's.

What's the difference with a hane goshi? I thought Uchimata was on the other leg?
Right leg comes in the middle for Uchimata. Thanks for your comment!
