    I work in second-hand donated retail, and as such handle many TVs - mainly flat panel LCDs from fifteen years ago to an occasional OLED from three years ago when someone just wanted something larger, and gave the predecessor to us. We no longer accept bulky CRT sets.
    The first thing I do with such panels is plug them in and run a source, preferably a used documentary DVD or anything with human characters.
    1. Take out of Vivid/Dynamic/Sports mode, and throw in Cinema or Custom. Center all the basic controls(Backlight, Contrast, Bright, Color, Tint, Sharpness to zero.
    2. Go into Advance, and turn off EVERYTHING: 'flesh tone', 'Dynamic contrast', 'Cinemotion', Digital Noise reduction(what an oxymoron!), and others you mentioned. These are all non-standard settings and adjustments, and as with NTSC, are not critical to an accurate setup in ATSC.
    3. I set color temp to Neutral(or Warm1 if available), since I don't have instrumentation to determine which is closest to 6500k.
    4. In the basic settings, I usually find that a slight boost of the brightness brings out detail in the dark areas, in case the set sees service in a bright ambient setting.
    Color? Knock off a point or two. I find that factory default color on most sets is always slightly exxaggerated.
    I'll navigate to the DVD main menu, and then use the edges of chapter titles to set Sharpness. Raise sharpness intil ringing just appears around lettering or boxes, then back off a tick or two. Done!
    Play feature on DVD, set correct aspect ratio on TV, and let it play all day until the player, TV, or both sell!
    I've done so many with calibration disks that I know what settings generally work, and go from there.

    Thank you for this. I will be setting the Q9FN65 tonight. I didn't want to spend $2600 on the Q90 and was able to get this 2018 model for $1700, the last new one that was available on Amazon. Now I have 30 days to decide if I like it before the return window closes. Six years ago I bought a Samsung 55 inch and the blooming was horrible. Couldn't watch any dark scenes without a ton of light bleed. Ended up exchanging it for a 65 inch vizio which honestly has been great. Moving the vizio to another bedroom and hoping this 2018 Samsung will be better than the 2012 model. I was afraid to get LG oled because of possible burn in.

    It can be helpful for some advise for setting up your tv. It’s best for you to experiment with the settings . The movie default settings for me are to dark, as is this video demonstration setting are. The sharpness settings do make lot of difference, and setting the backlight at fifteen is silly. Your eyes will tell you what you like not a chart. What a lot of people do is constantly adjust there tv settings and are never satisfied with the results. On modem TVs the company’s spend time calibrating there TVs. If you don’t like the settings a little tweak here and there. If your tv is that far out take it back.

      I'm an average consumer, not a professional calibrator like you.
      What i'm saying is, whenever I try the suggested calibration for a specific model and using the movie mode, the picture looks dull and not that great.
      For me, this calibration might be accurate but at the end it's an obsession, I don't care what's the creator intention for the content to look like, I want it to look better than what the creator intended.

    • @shawng4886
      @shawng4886 4 года назад

      amazoner0cks lol, dude you make no sense...
      I have a Samsung Q6FN and I’ve been using HDR+ ever since I discovered it. But after watching this video and actually calibrating my TV. Switching between the 2 modes is fairly obvious which one is correct. There are definitely scenes on HDR+ mode that look artificial in comparison. The settings shown in this video are perfect for this TV. And because it’s a ‘movie’ mode, the TV automatically detects HDR content and displays it beautifully in these settings.
      He did also say in the video. IF you want a brighter picture, adjust the gamma to your liking.
      The picture and colors with these settings look spot on to what they should look like! You can tell it’s exactly how the picture is supposed to look.
      I’ve never owned a Samsung and I’m not very technical with TV’s. Play with the settings for yourself. The settings is this video are fucking legit. RUclips some HDR content and play with the settings and you’ll see...

    • @TVguyDarko
      @TVguyDarko  5 лет назад

      Hey, thanks for your comment. Recommendations in this video are for SDR signal, not for HDR. Gamma BT.1886 is valid here, not PQ. Contrast (white level) value was adjusted by checking white pluge pattern. Backlight should be adjusted as you like, depending on your viewing environment.

      @@TVguyDarko at least for Gaming these settings dont look good on my tv. Sorry didn’t wanted to sound rude, i bet they are amazing for movies. Problem is that the Q6fn overall has a bad image and bad lighting so is really hard to adjust something properly. Im about to throw this Screen to the garbage

      These are quite extreme settings, but ok if you like them.

      @@TVguyDarko Have to say I understand his settings ... The Q6FN really seems to be the poor mans QLED..its crap..Ive had very visible vertical banding..the panel was changed yet the new panel also has it...it has awful off axis viewing..even slightly off centre causes noticeable picture uniformity issues.and very difficult with the Q6FN to get a decent picture...following calibration settings the picture looks washed out...dark ..and faces skin yellow...never again will I buy Samsung.

      Used to be. Keep up! Q9FN pisses over most oled sets on the market and has zero burn in risk. Q9FN is the tv to beat. Ask anybody that knows shit they'll tell you the same. Best tv for gaming by far and looks amazing when doing everything else.

      @@Loophole23742 for movies Oled is still better because of the perfect black and perfect contrast tho for gaming I agree Q9 is better because of the luminosity etc

    Hey! I got my new 75Q9FN yesterday, but I don't like the movie settings. Do you have some tipps to optimize the standard mode for daytime?

    • @TVguyDarko
      @TVguyDarko  5 лет назад +1

      Hi - I would still recommend Movie mode, but with increased Backlight option. You can also play with gamma to get brighter picture.

      What is the deal with movie mode? It's so
      dull. Even with back light up and all the other things turned up.
