  • The Roman Empire was one of the largest and most influential civilizations that ever existed. But what if somehow in today's current global age, the Empire was recreated to its exact ancient borders? What would the country look like today in the 21st century, and how would it compare to other countries across the world? This video attempts to find out!

      That's not actually a correct quotation. The original poem refers to the Colossus, not the Colosseum. The Colossus was a massive bronze statue of Nero that stood next to the Colosseum (from where it gets it's name) in Ancient times. It dissapeared at some point in the Early Middle Ages.

    Related to an earlier comment, the modern incarnation of the Roman Empire would control not only the Suez Canal but also Gibraltar, as well as the Turkish straits, and have an access to the Atlantic. It would also have access to the Indian Ocean, and possibly a direct land route to China. It would easily have the potential to dominate a good chunk of global trade.

      when the USD deflates (not IF) to a more realistic value on the global theatre, somewhere between 15% and 35% of your current GDP will be lost. That's based on only the value of the USD. The longer term consequenses would mean you can't import as you do now and need to produce mostly what you need instead of getting it somewhere else. Before that's set up you'll first spiral in a depression that's probably worse than the stock bubble crash of the roaring 20's of the previous century. Given the huge divisions currently in the USA, you'll probably spiral down into a civil war. Probably shorter and less bloody because one side will have all the farms and guns. The country recovering from that, won't have a GDP of 17 trillion, best half of that if not, less.

On language, though Latin was the root language for most of Europe's languages, it would certainly be used much less than it would have say, 200-300 years ago when it was used as a universal language among scientists. Finally, although Christianity was the primary and official religion of the late Roman Empire (Vatican City grins smugly), for a modern Roman Empire, having no official or set religion, like the US, would be more practical.

    Religion: Roman Polytheism
    Also just as a side note. It's pretty funny that when you look at the rich and poor terretories it has been completely switched around in between Roman times and today. Germany, England and France are rich now, but were poor barbarian mud pools when the Romans conquered it. Iraq and Armenia may be poor now, but back then they held the gates to the east that everyone was after.

      Yes the Capital would be Rome, but bringing a dead language as a main language of an empire today is impossible, but the closest language to Latin is Italian so that would be the main language. Also, bringing a polytheist religion as a main religion today would be outrageous, considering that the Vatican city would be part of the Empire, so the main religion would be the catholicism.

    • @billben7482
      @billben7482 5 лет назад +10

      Herdan BC Rome’s religion was monotheistic and was as organised as Roman Catholicism if not more. They did have better and more rigid Rites than Catholicism. The Romans were tolerant with other religions but not to a religion as sexually depraved as Mithraism, the Senate officially kicked this cult out twice, around 130 BC and 90BC. And Roman Catholicism being intolerant is a myth, the cathar cult had around 900 temples in Bulgaria by 12th century. Catholicism usually doesn’t give a flying fuck unless they take up arms like the hussites, cathars or land themselves at an Ecumenical Council like Arius did. Majority of the so called religious wars are wars bankers waged with a religion they invented as Europe stopped going to war at the height of the Renaissance. The Roman Cardinal, Mazarin is the one who saw through the madness these bankers plunged Europe into and he’s largely responsible for bringing the Westphalian Treaty into fruition in the 1600s. The Admiralty law signed in this Treaty was so study - much like the Roman Senate - it’s still used as a blueprint for international Admiralty law today.
      And the BC Romans explicitly refused to get in touch in with the numerous oriental mysteries you mentioned that sprang up post Augustus Rome. Not surprisingly, it mainly sprang up in the Eastern Empire. Mithraism was secretly practiced by Nero ( after Christ birth ) in his pleasure island away from the Senate and the Roman public. This Nero is the lunatic who went to Osentia looking for the “Divine Child” ( Christ ) around 6/7 BC whose birth was expected all throughout the Roman Empire. Christ was born only after Augustus closed the Temple of Janus / YHWH. Btw the Roman YHWH / Janus was quite tame ( but fiercely loyal to Rome ) compared to biblical YHWH because the Romans refused get tamed by him contrary to the rest of YHWH worshippers who bend, bow and holocaust at the behest of their YHWH.

      @Herdan I condemn the bad actions of the Catholic Church, but the Muslims in Spain had it coming. They invaded Spain and forced the Spanish to become Muslim. That's what set off the crusades. I'm glad we took back Jerusalem. As for the Germanic tribes, yeah they didn't deserve that, we did the same thing that we were condemning (hypocrites). I live in the US, but my great grandparents were from Ireland. So I'm Catholic, but we don't have a bad taste left in our mouths from Catholicism because it spread peacefully to Ireland. Saint Patrick literally converted all of Ireland, it's crazy. He did so peacefully and within 50 years we stopped worshipping our Celtic gods and goddesses. Catholicism also spread peacefully through the middle east, before Muslims forced us to convert or be killed. So as I said, Arabs in Spain ought to be kicked out, and hated. They invaded Spain and oppressed the spainish for like 700 years. That is the only time I justify the churches bad actions. I wouldn't want Arabic customs in my country when they are dirty pig Invaders. How do you think the Native Americans felt about the English, they have every right to be pissed off. So I'm on Spanish's side and the church for that. Sorry for the stuff my religion did to Central and eastern Europe. But I'm of Irish descent and we mind our own business. Ireland never invaded another country, nor colonize one. (We were colonized) Also, Catholics were persecuted in the Roman empire only until Nero. 300 years of misery for people of my religion. Also Catholics were persecuted in Israel by the Jews for a long time. Well anyway have a great day.

    I think Rome would be the capital. Sure Constantinople was a historic capital, but only of the eastern Roman Empire. Rome is still a very large city, has good infrastructure, and is in the center of the empire. It also has many monuments and symbols of the ancient empire

    • @johnv5827

    • @jungkinoid8706

      Johnny Vargas
      But it's also on the edge of their territory. Military wise, it's smart to have the capital in the middle because if someone wants to attack it they have to cut through HUGE swaths of land to get to it, not to mention the Empire could quickly draw forces to defend it that way. It would also just be a sign of the old glory of Rome, something I personally would gush over.

    • @johnv5827
      @johnv5827 6 лет назад +14

      Their is a couple of things wrong with your post. Rome is about as easy to get too as london is... you just have to cross different bodies of water. just a point you should think of It was easier for the allies to invade Italy from Africa then it was for germany to invade england from france during ww2.
      the 2nd thing that's wrong with your post is... that it doesn't even matter because no one will attack the new Rome. They have the 2nd strongest military in the world and 4th most nukes with a nuclear triad going for them.
      the 3rd thing wrong with your post is that when capitals are established they are established because of political reasons not military reasons. No one ever thought hey maybe we shouldn't put our capital here because it could be taken easily.... just look at how easily rome has been conquered by northern invaders in their early days throughout history. Or paris too. Paris was easily sacked by the vikings multiple times.

    • @jungkinoid8706
      @jungkinoid8706 6 лет назад +46

      You think they won't have enemies?
      Russia is almost guaranteed to hate the new Rome, I doubt China would like it very much and even the US could feel challenged.
      As for the 3rd thing...
      Rome was sacked once, ONCE in the BC era, in 390, by the Gauls. It wouldn't be sacked again until 410 AD because ever since the Gauls sacked Rome in 390 BC, the Romans were careful and were very protective of their borders. The reason it was sacked in 410 was because the Western Roman Empire was already crumbling. You clearly haven't done your research if you think Rome was constantly getting raided in its early period. As for the vikings sacking Paris, I wouldn't use the word "multiple", and for the times they did do it, it was because the vikings were actually pretty fucking genius. Their ships were able to just sail down the river straight into Paris, something nobody expected an entire fleet to be capable of. Paris was sacked because the vikings got past their natural defenses, not because their natural defenses were useless. If they were fighting anyone BESIDES vikings, Paris would have remained untouched.
      Rome is still not a bad place for the capital to be, it could very literally and figuratively be the cultural center of the Empire, with people coming from every corner of the Empire to see the Eternal City itself. It's probably hard to comprehend for us now, but for a large portion of Roman history, the idea of keeping Rome alive and fighting for the glory of Rome was a huge morale boost. It wouldn't be as effective a propaganda, rally and morale sign if they're just gonna be like "oh the capital is in godamn Britain now".

      Ashton Mahoney I doubt Americans aren't into England having Muslims. I'm not American but I'm sure as fuck aren't.
      As for not liking them if that's what you mean that's not racist. Islam isn't a race it's a religion.
      As for not liking other people for whatever reason that's perfectly fine.
      Nationalism and etnopluralism is how the world should had remained. Globalism is genocide and treason.

    Fun fact: even though Europe has a lot of Romance languages (languages that descend from Latin) there could’ve been a few in Northern Africa. Romance languages were beginning to form in Northern Africa but were killed off by invaders.
