I think assuming the nations comprising the empire would continue with third world bad government (and thus economies) is probably incorrect. Also trade within the Empire would increase. These factors suggest that the poor economics of the bits and pieces of the Empire are probably overstated somewhat.

@Olivia Addison so how indian subcontinent's countries became more poor that many of the african countries after independence and also african countries who possess more than 30% of the entire world's economy became one of the most poor region in the world.
You would probably say that thay hadn't industrialized their nation during the period of industrialization but thay were ruled by British during that period. So it was the duty of british that they think about the indian and african nation asuch as they think of their own nation .
They just thrieve resources and wealth of indian and african nations and used it to industrialize their own country.
I don't know enough about the how british rule the other countries but yes i know enough about the rule of british in india. Some major famines like 'Great Bengal Famine', 'Chalisa famine', 'Doji bara famine','Upper Doab famine of 1860-61','Orissa famine of 1866','Rajputana famine of 1869','Bihar famine of 1873-74','Indian famine of 1896-97','Bengal famine of 1943', all cause during british period. Can you think about famine in the world's most fertile region i.e. plains of indus and ganga? The cause of these famines are taking around 125% tax on crops. The farmers are forced to pay this tax. When they were unable to pay this then the british seize their house ,property, and crops leaving the farmers and their families to die. Also they massacred many people who were unviolently protesting against the british rule . Example of some massacre are jalianwalah bagh massacre ,amritsar massacre etc.
And now England's government claim that british raj was the golden era for technology. You claim this because you have given railways tp us. But we don't need this railway if it costs 45 trillion $. Yes $45 trillion , this is the amount british thrieve from india.
I'm not saying that you are bad but yea your ancestors were like a devil for us. Even till date they haven't even said sorry for these all. Now, you decide everything.

Exactly! xD
Owais Shaikh just because the USA has a large economy doesn't mean it's rich. Keep in mind that the u.s is still nearly 20 trillion dollars in debt and has only been out of debt once in its history. A high GDP is just a measure of the total value of the goods and services produced in that country, not how wealthy the country actually is.
Once I see someone mention the 20 trillion dollar debt without its specifications, it's a tell-tale sign that this person has no idea what he's talking about.
IaughandpeeaIittle in this situation, the amount of debt that the us has is relevant. So even if I didn't know what I was talking about, the facts are still there and they say that the United States isn't simply rich.
Je Cr
US debt is made by design. Thats how they oppress the lower class and get rid of the middle. More debt = more printing. More printing = more money.
I was born in Fiji and tbh after we gained independence we went downhill in-terms of development. Our neighbors Australia and Newzeland reaped the benefits of still being a British colony. All the good things in Fiji was done by Britain.

And this is why the age of empires will return and the third british empire will reign over the whole world, bringing peace and prosperity to all and then we can actually properly go to space.
I truly believe the UK (Great Britian) island mass is shaped as it is, not by accident. It's just like a yale key don't you think? And keys are made to "unlock" things. So, maybe, just maybe the third british empire (as every "third" of something is their largest/biggest when speaking about empires) would span all across the globe and bring prosperity for all.
I am not sure how this bloke got his numbers on everything, when its hypothetical idea. But I am guessing he is just trying to be patriotic to his own country, USA. When USA, in many regards still has segregation and other cultural inequalities which undermines its "figures" on average wage and GDP.
ITT we have had Fiji, Jamacia, Malaysia. And when you go to ex colony countries and go on history guides or just speak to natives, they always speak of how the british were the best rulers. (Malta, Trinidad, Hong Kong etc)
And I tell you the reason, it is because we are merchants (Englishmen) All we want to do is make money and prosper. This is why I say, slavery wasn't a "racist" attribute of the empire. It was just a "thing of the times" which you did to make money. Yes, a minority were racist to the blacks (as people are today) but an average trader working in the docks in london or kingston (Jamacia) or Bridgetown (Barbados) etc were just doing a job. Also, you have to take into account the government persistently tried to outlaw slavery during the 17th and 18th century and it was just due to the slow process of policymaking, lawmaking and economic recalibration that took time to enstill it in society. Just like working laws, just like human rights, things take time. Often people nowadays (especially the young) forget how long processes take, even the current fiasco with Brexit shows you even the policymakers themselves were clueless. Democracy takes time to make progress but when it does, it makes much more progress than a dictatorship (or communist) ever does for longer too.
Again, this is also why jumping the gun and voting for a "new" creative neo-progressive party with "new" (even though they have been tried and tested 100 times before and failed) policies telling you if "only we put more money into xyz" fund and tax the rich more we can make it better for all does and will not EVER work. Socialism, freedom and scio-economic valuations take time to build. Please remember that when you vote for something that is too good to be true.
Frank.

I was going to say: you have to include the American colonies, too. It doesn't matter if the rest of the States would resist or not. This is a hypothetical scenario about the Empire being at its most powerful, and that would include the American colonies, making it the undisputed global superpower. (P.S. Cool video. Thanks.)
The reason the 13 colonies weren’t included is because this is showcasing the British Empire at the height of its power (around 1922), which was centuries after the 13 colonies had declared independence. In other words when the British Empire had control over the 13 colonies they did not have the majority of the land they owned in Africa and Southeast Asia.

I myself am working on a novel premised on the survival of the empire and its evolution into a federal super state, so I find these videos interesting and good for research. Under such a scenario (of survival not reunification), in calculating total and average imperial GDF, the difficulty is taking into account the cumulative multiplier of political unification. By that I mean the free flow of goods and people across imperial borders, as well as skills and expertise, over a period of decades, in a context of political stability. I assume this would have led to a much higher total and average GDP for the empire than that given here by (presumably) adding together the current GDPs of all 64 countries that would be reunited. The question would be postulating a magnitude for the multiplier.

Historically, the British people who just wanted to stay at home and have trade and friendly relations with the world were called "Little Englanders".
Today that term is used as a slur to describe people who want the UK be a separate sovereign nation from the EU, and who wish to curb mass immigration and not get involved with wars that are usually only for the benefit of the US special interest groups.
"Would us allow this to happen"
Uk : "just give them the damn oil"
@Mohammed Patel Because at the end of the video, RLL included the original 13 colonies, which were part of the British Empire before independence. So would the US allow the New British Empire to take the 13 states?
@Mohammed Patel I could also argue that the land was never British land, and rather Native American's land, and the British just stole it. So what's your point?
@Mohammed Patel The "Americans" you speak of were originally British citizens who created America. Americans did not steal the colonies. British people got mad at their own government, rebelled and created the United States, and started calling themselves American.
@Mohammed Patel Yeah so the British got mad, started a war, and lost to Americans. After losing the war, the British Crown formally recognized American independence and ceded most of its territory east of the Mississippi River to the United States in Treaty of Paris. The British literally gave the land to the US after the US won the war.
@Mohammed Patel Yeah so they left the British Empire by beating them in a war.
The United States STILL surpasses a theoretical modern day British Empire?! Good lord...
doesnt even surprise me
The united states is a well oiled machine
on the other hand the empire is a bunch of small machines if they had time to make it a well oiled machine it would be a beast :p
Pretty much what Sordxyx said. The scenario states the Empire basically just magically gains all its old territory and the resources/population/military owned by whatever exists there currently.
In reality this sort of thing would take decades to even begin, the Empire wouldn't just slap on the annexed nations pre-existing militaries/government structures/etc (way too expensive and inefficient) and nations would be more gradually integrated rather than all at once haphazardly. It certainly wouldn't want to just take on the money sink that is developing half the third world all at once.
Once it was set up it could easily be the most powerful state on the planet, but it would take a while and lots of things could easily go wrong, not least the fact that even poor nations these days can effectively wound advanced ones with guerilla warfare thanks to modern warfare.
Sordxyx no it fucking isn't. The United States wastes money hand over fast.
Ry well from the second it changes yes, don't forget that most of the countries that were in the Empire went down hill very quickly afterwards as they replaced those in positions with experience with those who had no experience but were native to the respective lands. Over time with structure imposed and a western level of efficiency gained, the figures would begin to shift in favour of the Empire. With that comes changes to the defence budget as, provided it stayed at the same percentage of GDP rate, it too would rise. The British would be able to take control of issues inside the borders which would lighten the load for the US military and as a pair we'd essentially have the world on absolute lockdown

I wonder why they do not include the United States as part of the British Empire as since we were once a Colony of the British Empire. Not just the Colonies.
As mentioned in the video, the majority of the United States was not even a colony of British Empire. Spanish Empire would be the biggest, followed by French as the second. Also, there are other countries too that has stepped their feet on the US such as the Netherlands. British people is not even the biggest ethnicity in the US. It comes third after German and Irish.
***** I don't think most Americans would agree with that. The US is just so ethnically diverse to even agree to be considered one of the British Empire colony. Only about 10% of them has British ancestors and the country is built by immigrants from all over the world. Unlike other British colonies, American independence is not given to them. They fought against the UK because their policies are just stupid and they won eventually with the help of French people. Why the fuck would you ever consider to be a part of their empire ever again? They can be allies, but "reunited"? That's just ridiculous and against what all of their founding fathers fight for.
***** Are you stupid or something? You explicitly said your agreement with the guy in the main comment, "I wonder why they do not include the United States as part of the British Empire as since we were once a Colony of the British Empire." by saying "True".
Yeah, American share many common cultures with British people, just as they share common cultures with French, German, Irish, Dutch, and other people from other European countries. Also, what is your point exactly if you don't say that the US should be a part of British Empire? Like, what the fuck do you want to point out? Even if the US will be one of the British Empire, American's massive ego and narcissism won't let them to be under the rule of the British Empire. If anything, the US would be the one who rule and control everyone else in the empire, since the US whole GDP is bigger than the entire British Empire's GDP. Furthermore, why would the US want to invade the British Empire in the first place? It's not like they have much oil that they need to be invaded with all of the mighty freedom and democracy.
Taking a hypothetical discussion a bit to serious and personal. Our Nation Originated from the Original 13. So I figure we hold the same connections as the 13. Not who came here after the fact. People give our so called founding father way to much credit like they were flawless saints or something.
Christopher Knox Just replying to the original comment, it would not be logical to include the entire US because the original 13 where the only colonies Britain ever controlled, after the revolutionary war Britain never controlled The US again, so it wouldn't make sense to say that any part of the US besides the 13 states that where the original 13 colonies should be included in the British empire

Apoorv Chauhan I thought that was obvious.
@Apoorv Chauhan thats only if all the nations forced in the empire would send its troops to fight the usa and if everyone actually tries ti without problems. At first america only has to deal with Canada which is no problem and the americand can just set a navel blockade so they can defend from reinforcements and with the largests airforce in the world and being close to the usa many ballistic missiles and anti ship missiles will most likely go to favor the usa. @@walkersmith9764
Go talk to a native American and hear about how they fight.
New flash....a longbow is far superior in combat then a single shot musket in said period...for every 3 musket shots you can let loose dozens of arrows.
Musket on it's own is useless....volley fire and cannons was the weapon and there wasn't that many of them available.
So think or become educated before talking.
You have just insulted all Europeans who lost all their empires and power to Britain....what were they using baguettes and chorizo?
Not to mention the next 4 biggest empires after the UK was also trying to get the lands we had and we were more then often juggling European imperial war with indeginous colonizing war and fight literally 4 empires and 7 indeginous all at once.
You all try this nonsense like the English only won because of guns...
We have been a force to be reckoned with for 1200 years.
A main participant in all but 2 crusades...not to mention we have only lost a couple of wars across our entire history...and they were at the very start.
So before belittling us remember 5hat we were laying waste to armies 5x our size before your country even knew where England is.
@@walkersmith9764 again your indication shows.
Attrition indeed.
Britain has tick all resources and nobody gave it to us to go conquer them did they....
We had to "attrition" 1/4 of the globe on ships that took 4 months to get there and reinforcements wasn't going to arrive.
The attrition is with the indeginous not the invaders ....your lands your resources and you know where they all are and likely have stockpiles already
You must be referring the Spanish because they are the only empire who walked in with 500 men and wiped out an entire civilisation...not 1 other did this at all.
Either started through trade relations or it was hostile immediately on arrival.
There is no middle ground.
@@karljames7318 Wow! talk about insecure. Since nobody in this thread was belittling England it is interesting why you would feel this way.
Also sorry to burst your bubble but you cannot simply switch between different eras and different people (such as all of a sudden talking about other European empires or the crusades) in response to my post.
My point above was about the *modern* Empire that the video map clearly shows!!!
Built with the dynamic of an industrialising (late and post- slave-trade era) Britain annexing vast lands of many small agrarian societies and kingdoms, with *armies* with cannons and maxim guns, etc. vs men without guns. (not some sort of single *man to man* fight with a single shot musket vs a spear, arrow or blade!)
*The technological lethality matters. There's a reason why the pink on the map is outside of Europe!!!*
Also once an entity has been annexed that entity fights *with* Britain and so by the next iteration it is the British Empire fighting not just England. This is also relevant to your point about the destruction of European empires by Britain.
Britain didn't destroy them, the British Empire did.
*There is a reason why every year on Remembrance Sunday, the High Commissioners of the Commonwealth form a guard of honour around the Cenotaph!*
(I suggest you educate yourself about the century of warfare it took to consolidate all the African Kingdoms that would make up the Union of South Africa by 1910 *for example* . It took a while but the ultimate outcome was largely technologically determined. The descriptions of Xhosa tactical adaptability during the Xhosa wars for example tell us how different things might have been if they had been similarly armed!)
@@walkersmith9764 don't put that on me squire...insecure? I assure you we aren't insecure...it's the world who seems to be insecure as they can't seem to let go of our empire. It's their sustenance.
