I do know in a fact that ALL major hifi publications do take adds to their sites and who ever pays about the add can dictate what the reviewer says about their equipment. Take the biggest snake oli seller Darko Audio. Have you EVER seen review where he says something is just bad? No, not once. And i know this because i was asked to make reviews to major Hifi publication in finland and i left it cos i can't say what i really think about somethings... Its the same in all european publications and in US too. That is just how it works, smaller reviewers CAN say what they want UNTIL the gear sponsors start to dictate what you can say. Seen it happen. Tho i trust what Jay says.

What I would like to see more of from reviewers is actual in-depth sound comparisons between similarly priced speakers/components. I find that gives me more insight and understanding of what each particular piece of gear sounds like, as opposed to reviews of individual components reviewed in isolation. Context is everything.
Please do more of these if you can.
    Thanks for the video!

    • @Jayiyagi

Thats a good point. Many choose to send it back or get approved by manufacturer by showing them the video first (with options to back out) - we personally don’t give options for any of that and we have a statement on our policy page that reads “by sending in your product, you agree to not pursue and legal action for negative feedback”

You come off as a very self aware person, I highly respect that! Every audio niche seems to have their own way of youtube reviewing, be it HiFi, Car Audio or Pro/DJ. Personally Id like to see all the audio reviews adhere to some form of STANDARD! Implement hard scientific data that transcends personal opinion like the old magazines used to do. Pair reviewed gear with chosen components on a good/better/best scale such as amps/pre-amps/DACs etc etc. Stick to a specific set of ref tracks to listen to when reviewer is formulating their personal opinions and only deviate occasionally.

    • @sdemosi
      @sdemosi 3 года назад

Agreed. British Audiophile, Zero Fidelity & New Record Day are my favourite hifi channels for technical reviews. NRD put a lot of budget & thought into bringing some quite unique reviews to YT. Tarun has excellent content on acoustics & speaker design which every audiophile should watch. . I don't believe these reviewers would mislead their subscribers just to sell a product. Jay is good too but I've only started watching it. Also a shout out to Andrew Robinson who has a different but very accessible reviewing style and Steve Gutenberg who just loves listening to music.

Maybe he should review kit thats affordable to most people then. You can't really go wrong reviewing higher midrange to high end equipment all the time, just say it's good and review over. I got bored watching his reviews but do have a look from time to time but loose interest as always. I think people whi review audio should do budget midrange and high end, maybe he would have more subscribers, you don't need to spend 5k on a amp to get great sound. I have found the more i spend on hi-fi the less value i get for my money, 2k on any hi-fi component should be enough on hi-fi, if you think it's not then maybe we need a channel on what equipment works well with other equipment.

I like that there are different RUclips hifi reviewers with different characters, processes and styles.
As although hifi is a niche area thr truth is there are so many manufacturers and products out there, so it is great when reviewers give a general impression ...on a product and or a brand. Especially products that are not easy to find and demo locally.
In the old days it was hifi magazines some were better than others but collectively would help people form an opinion or short list.
The main problem with hifi is synergy as each product in the chain from source to speaker can and will effect the end result to some degree...which sadly puts many people off hifi.
Therefore there are two functions...the first to help those already interested in hifi to get a system or upgrade together and secondly to attract new people into hifi and make it appealing and easy to understand.
As it is easy to get confused and go round and round in ever more expensive circles

If the latter, then there's a lot of pressure to give a good review, since if they give too many bad reviews, then no one will send them anything.

Good & pleasantly different hi-fi video. I was just ready to write a comment on the cute-cats, squirrels, loving inter-species cute-pet relationship videos etc etc but you touched on these video good-earners at this video's end ...all the cutesy pet vids getting up to 43 million (I've seen once) & more often, 20 million+ & very very often 4 - 7 million views, that's where RUclips videos massive bucks are for sure! it was those crazy high views that got me looking for which vids are the biggest earners & I've seen no equals. When we meet new people, friends of friends etc, (in that vaguely remincent pre-covid life) you find allmost everyone you socially meet, at first has some degree or other of an up-front copied or self-stylised persona that you start seeing through after you know them longer, (I remember we all did it as young kids in groups) I guess hi-vid folk are the same but you yourself do better than many by what seems to be "just being yourself" way to go & if people dont like it ...tough & there's plenty of types or 'brands' of reviewers out there to suit almost anyone. One very well known reviewer said "if I dont like a particular hi-fi component sent or offered to me, then I wont review it on my videos or mention it & I'll just politely send it back" i personally think that attitude is a cop-out or "not good" at least ...it's dissengenuous for a so-called impartial & neutral reviewer, & could lead to some viewer's expensive mistakes, like ....that review's 3 or 4 available speakers may not suit some amplifier hyped by other reviewers with different gear & he'll not review it & just return it so his followers will not be warned ehich speakers will not match an elswhere-hyped up amplifier. Plus ...it's a win win win reviewing opportunity for manufacturers sending that reviewer anything as he'll like it & plug it or just say nothing to anyone if he hates it. He's popular enough for me not to need to name him

I trusted your review of the Kinki P7 and B7. So much so that I bought them.
Whilst I appreciate that buying unheard, consumer direct products is rolling the dice rather, that may be a decision I live to regret.
I have the amps installed and have been listening to them now for well over 5 weeks. They do not live up to my expectations. I strongly suspect there is an issue with the P7 which is not allowing the system to perform to it’s full potential. I’m currently liaising with Kin at Kinki and Alvin at Vinshine and I’m hopeful of a positive outcome. I’ll keep you updated.

Negotiations with Vinshine and Kinki via email and time zone differential is, slow. Jay, there is absolutely nothing wrong by charging money for making a review and recomending a product. You are helping people and I highly suggest you make afiliate links in all your videos. There is nothin unethical about it if people chose to buy your reviewed product and as a way of appreciation do it via the link. Same way you ask people to subscribe you should suggest buying them via the links. There is nothing unethical about it.

Yeah preference vs technical performance, needs to be explained and differentiated more, in the hobby. In the end, each of us want to get, what we individually each prioritize, which isn't always the same things (we all don't always prioritize the same things the same way). Seems obvious, but isn't obviously talked about in the right ways, IMHO.

@@crh4878 You have misread my post Carlton. First, I have much respect and high hopes for Jay and like his reviews despite his few years of experience. That is just one reason I am a paying patron. My concern is that he doesn't go down the path of critiquing other reviewers as that would be an indication of superiority and is non-productive. My post is prompted partly from listening to a ZF live stream yesterday and then Jay following with this similar albeit more polite video. Regardless of 'talent', the constant belittling of others, successful manufacturers, and overall sense of self superiority and over inflated ego is a real turn off. Jay doesn't need to follow the advice of others but just let his personality and reviews shine through.
