Excellently done and informative!! Knowledge is the key to making the right decisions and trying to get the value of a piece of vintage gear is tricky to say the least. I’m in my mid-sixties and have been in hi-fi sense the late 60’s and know that the way you are determining the pricing of vintage gear is spot on! I’ve been a buyer, repairer and reseller as a hobbyist for the last 25 years. Yes some vintage gear was excellent build quality and sounding, particularly equipment made in the late 70’s to early 80’s.
Your idea for getting value on new used equipment is spot on as well !
I enjoy your chanel and is always fascinating and well thought out.
Keep up the good work my man and keep on spinning!

Thanks, Jay - in particular I find the previously-sold prices on Hifishark really useful. Sellers would do well to check it before posting items for sale, too, because at the end of the day an item's true value is as much as, but no more than, buyers are willing to pay.
On a side note, I'd advise people to check the forums and specialist audiophile pages if they see a model they're not familiar with. Asking prices for brands like Pioneer and Marantz are getting silly now, for example, and there were plenty of equally good items (and, in some cases, far better - both Pioneer and Marantz made some stinkers at one point or another) from less-hyped manufacturers.
I'm really pleased to see you and others giving vintage audio a boost, even if it does drive up prices to some extent. There are sound environmental and economic reasons for keeping old equipment in circulation and, although jobs may be lost in global manufacturing, jobs can be created in local repairing and refurbishing. Scandinavia is ahead of the game here. It's win -win.

    Few things to note:
    1. Obviously the "SOLD PRICES" may have not been the exact price that the unit was sold for. (The person may have bargained and got a lower price) It is just the listed prices but it still gives you a fairly good idea.
    2. This is nothing new to people who has been in this hobby for a fair amount of time but many have told me they did not know this ! So hopefully this video makes people more comfortable and confident when buying or selling used.
    3. I am not affiliated with any of the websites mentioned and the sole benefiter of this video is YOU (thanks to my patreons who support doing these videos)
    4. Even though the example shown had free shipping, I urge people to always listen to it before purchasing to check the condition of the gear they are buying. However, many including myself is comfortable buying and getting things shipped as you gain more experience and know the "right questions" to ask (which we will get into in future videos)

No man, i will never buy any vintage garbage a.k.a stuff that got refurbished by some numb nut who breaks sht further and it never has the manufacturer's intended sound signature. This is the case 100% of the time. It may have been great 30 years ago, but, it is really a piece of sht in 2020 (considering the above mentioned).

I find sellers are entirely unreasonable about the stuff they sell online. It's as if they want to be rewarded for selling their stuff and being honest about the item's condition. No one wants to suffer any cost of use. Plenty of stuff is sold for the same price it retailed for when it was new 20 or 30 year ago. It's dicey at best.
